His family were wealthy and he and his siblings wanted for nothing and were tutored by the best teachers credits could buy. They wore the best clothes, attended the most exclusive and lavish parties and knew people with all sorts of connections. At first, this made Kellen arrogant and stubborn as he expected anything to be handed to him. As was his right taught to him. But it would not last forever. His transition to becoming a Jedi and accepting their philosophy would change him for the better. Where arrogance became humbleness and expectations turned into selflessness and humility. Kellen was very open minded to learning the views of others and discussing in lively debate the points of all topics. But the war would have an impact on him and make him more reserved but also add to his personality a witty humor and almost sarcastic mannerisms her picked up from the enlisted solders he served alongside. He is a hybrid of noble bearing, Jedi humility, and soldier humor. His father owned and operated a wealthy ship manufacturing company which produced parts for the bigger corporations with a history on Corellia. And he did well and provided his family with a wealthy upbringing in which they never lacked anything. At the same time, Kellens parents were never distant. They remained loving and caring parents and always made sure to give attention to their children no matter how busy their work became. His mother, Lorena, was the Chief Financial Officer of the company by the time Kellen was born. She managed the numbers while Kellens father, Kal, managed the business. It was a comfortable and nice atmosphere to grow up in. Kellen would enjoy this life of expensive tutors and their quality lessons, the lavish parties, pricey food, and important guest for six years. Kellen had a brother, a fraternal twin, who he was obviously close to. They shared everything together and were the best of friends growing up. They were later graced with a younger sister a few years on in which he remembers faint memories of her pretty smile and excited personality. But this life was thrown upside down when Kellen was discovered to be Force sensitive, the only family member as such. His father made the decision to send Kellen to Coruscant to be trained by the Jedi there to give his son a life away from all the pomp on Corellia he was used to. Deciding a life away from what he was familiar to would make his transition and adjustment to Jedi life easier than if he would have stayed on Corellia and joined the Green Jedi instead. And so at six years old, he was on a shuttle bound for the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Episode I: Youngling Years 3617-3610 BBY Arriving on the capital of the long standing Galactic Republic, Kellen found strange sights and stranger people. Coruscant was massive and had everything one could think of. To a young child like him, his sadness over leaving his family was replaced by childlike wonder and the spirit of adventure. He could go anywhere and do anything. Or so he thought. As soon as he arrived, he was greeted by a Jedi Master welcoming the arrival of a new batch of Jedi younglings. And so the next ten years would be spent learning the basics of what it meant to be a Jedi. Their philosophy and code, history, culture and teachings. Kellen embraced the changes with an open mind and welcomed it all as one big adventure. It did not take him long to adapt to his new situation and make friends among his fellow younglings. His family becoming a sweet memory in the back of his young mind as something experienced and kept hidden away. Thought he did not mind the classrooms nor do badly within them it was in the teaching of the past conflicts and combat instruction that Kellen truly felt happy. To him, a Jedi charging into battle was like some holovid action hero. He wanted to be just like them and be strong enough to protect his friends. From a young age he would excel in these areas while remembering and reenacting all the famous battles Jedi took part in within history. But he also never ignored the instructors words of how Jedi only fought when they had to. Kellen would come to learn the difference between glorifying battle and warfare to respecting it and the lives lost within them. All these years were spent adapting to his new world and learning the opposite traits of what he was used to. He was humbled, taught to respect all life, showed how to listen before speaking and to always consider all points of view and never assuming anything. It was all so intriguing to him. In his later years, Kellen was approached by a Jedi Master by the name of Rex Vrakin. A fellow Corellian whose families back home knew one another, although they had obviously never met. Being from similar circles and Master Vrakin being an expert duelist, Kellen took to him immediately and vice versa. Rex found Kellen's initiative and eagerness to learn the beauty of dueling and the martial history of the Order to be something he could pass on. Rex was a pragmatist after all. Ever wary of the next enemy to drag the Jedi into conflict as was always happening in this galaxy. He taught Kellen that one should always learn history to better prepare for the future. And Kellen would soak it all up. Episode II: Time of a Padawan 3610-3602 BBY Once Kellen had turned sixteen, he had completed his time as a youngling and had excelled in his studies. Especially successful in his studies of Form I. As planned, Master Vrakin took him on as his padawan with permission from the Jedi Council. Kellen eagerly left Coruscant with his Master, embarking right after the ceremony to show his pupil how the real galaxy worked. They traveled far and wide, exposed to multiple worlds and various aliens and cultures, Kellen learned many different languages and the customs of many peoples during this time. He was taught the value of learning to be a diplomat as Jedi were sought to be mediators by many. His Master was sure to impart on him the fact that words could easily disarm an opponent just as well as his lightsaber; it was the preferred method in fact. But he also did not lax on his teachings of the other forms of lightsaber combat. Specifically, Kellen was taught Form III by his Master as that was his specialty. Staunch defense and patience to allow your opponent to break their own offense in due time. Survival through endurance and outlasting your opponent. The tranquil peace of learning was broken in 3602 however, with the sudden return of the Sith Empire and their dark side lords changed things. The Republic was under siege and caught unready. While the Republic struggled to bring forth a response, the Jedi Order struggled with deciding whether or not they were going to actually aide in the war effort. Kellen could not understand why it was even up for debate. Millions of peoples lives were being ruined while this 'debating' took place. It made him frustrated but was tempered by his Master. Rex understood the hesitation by the Council although he did not agree with it. Conflict was always a last resort but not when it broke down your front door and invited itself into your home. The Jedi would need to involve themselves sooner or later. So, Rex decided to take his padawan and do what they could. Using the connections they built up over the years they campaigned for supplies and relief efforts to be sent to the worlds devastated by this new war. Rations and equipment were alloted to soldiers on the front lines. All of which was appreciated by their allies. When the Jedi High Council finally agreed to join the war in defense of the Republic, Kellen and his Master were well ahead of them. They immediately joined the front lines and attached themselves to various infantry elements and fought shoulder to shoulder with the grunts and officers. Learning to defend yourself was a galaxy away from having to actually utilize it in the field. Sure, Kellen had been in the occasional skirmish with criminals and other scum before but a true battlefield was a whole another thing. The bodies, sounds, sights and smells overwhelmed his young padawan senses. But luckily, Master Vrakin was a great and understanding mentor. Meditations were mandatory before and after every skirmish and battle to ensure their health and state of mind. And the times spent fighting the Imperials in the trenches worth any virtual training tenfold. And Kellen took it all in stride and learned all that he could. Some of these new things being small and large unit tactics. Watching the way the Republic officers planned and led their men to watching their NCOs back brief and execute those orders. It was a well oiled machine. Something he could learn from and apply to his Jedi teachings. He respected that. And that understanding, along with his competence in combat and steady head under fire, led to those same men respecting him in turn. It wouldn't be until the Battle, later 'Death', of Taris that Kellen would face one of the hardest moments of his young Jedi life. It was like any other battle. Master Vrakin and himself would be assisting a Republic company with defending an outpost from an approaching Imperial element with artillery droids in tow. Their defenses should hold out long enough to get some air support to mitigate those droids. And if not, plan b was to send the Jedi. Kellen was meditating when the first shorts were fired. Blaster fire and the explosions of munitions came to life everywhere at once. And so it began. Kellen stood beside his Master and deflected blaster fire and cut down any Imperial foolish enough to take the chance of killing a Jedi. But it wasn't until the enemy pulled back and opened a hole right to them that Kellen realized what was happening. At first, they took it as a sign of the enemy retreating, figuring their defenses too strong to press further. But Kellen felt them before he saw them. Such strong emotions. Hatred, fear, anger. It all hit him at once and he had never felt such darkness wash over him at once. If not for the presence and reassurance from his Master he might have froze up in despair. For approaching them were a Sith Lord and her apprentice. They were smiling and laughed as they ignited their sabers and ordered the charge to renew the attack. And the wave came. This second attack somehow became more fierce and the enemy more determined to assault their positions and kill anyone they found hiding there. The presence of the Sith driving them forward as their dark overlords charged right for the two Jedi aiding the defense effort. Master Vrakin quickly turned to his padawan and reassured him with a simple nod and a few short words to remember his training. Be the wall and let all else bounce off you. Kellen exhaled and calmed his mind, drowning out all distractions as he dropped into the Soresu guard. And then they met. Red sabers against blue. Sith against Jedi. As the battle raged around them, their they fought within the center. The battle hinged on who would win this skirmish for supremacy. Kellen quickly lost sight of his Master and the Sith Lord. His focus was set on the Sith apprentice before him who seemed all too happy to engage him in combat. The Sith utilized an aggressive Ataru supplemented by his hateful emotions. It was a mentally tiring battle as much as a physical one. But Kellen kept his guard and pushed forward with his own willpower and determination to see the men he had spent all this time getting to know. He would not be the one to fail them. But this Siths attacks seemed endless. They threw everything they had at each other and pulled their enviroment into their duel. Imagination and initiative becoming just as important as a lightsaber strike as they leaped and dodged their way around. It seemed like the Sith could not break the guard of the young padawan. And Kellen had little in the way to be able to go on the offensive. They were both tired, too exhausted to continue. But the battle required it. Their masters required it. And so they did. Fighting for their respective beliefs and in service of their respective Orders. It wasn't until a stray blaster bolt that struck the Sith apprentice in the thigh that a opportunity presented itself. Feeling a change in the tide, Kellen took it. He struck forward with a basic Shii-cho attack and brought down the Sith. He had just fought and defeated his first rival. But it wasn't at all like he used to picture it as a youngling. There was no glory in it. No great moment of victory like in those scenes of the holovids. It was brutal, ugly and quick. But it was nesacery. Episode III: To Become a Knight 3602-3593 BBY After Taris, Kellen spent more time around the front lines. Master Vrakin and himself had defeated two powerful foes and had spent a month recovering before returning to aide their allies in the field. It was a...strange feeling when he returned. While in battle, you hope for the day you get to return to the rear and spend time in R&R. But the month spent doing nothing but recovering, meditating and more menial teachings from his master made him miss the chaos of a battlefield. And so he relished his return. To be alongside his allied soldiers where everything was simplified. But as a Jedi, he never lost that bigger picture. Always one crisis to another. More Sith to thwart, spies to catch and battles to win. It seemed endless. But at the same time did he want it to end? Curious. It wasn't long before his Master announced they would finally return to the temple on Coruscant after five years of travel and conflict. Master Vrakin felt Kellen ready to go through his trials and become a Knight. Something he always dreamed of. It was a long and audacious road but Kellen felt ready and prepared for the extra responsibilities. Ever since that duel on Taris, he had felt lacking. Form III provided any expert in the form the ability to become a tank but it lacked offense. Kellen felt strong but helpless and unable to best his opponent through a valiant defense. And so he began his study and practice of Form V. Shien/Djem So added to his impressive defense with a more varied approach and a strong, reactionary offense. It fit him like like a glove. So, off to Coruscant they went. To return to the Temple he considered home. A place he hadn't been in years. Kellen was excited and thrilled all the same. When they arrived, they were approached by friends and former instructors welcoming the duo back from the frontlines. It was great to spend time socializing and catching up on each others adventures. To hear what each other experienced as padawans and how they have grown in body and mind since their youngling days. It was definitely a learning experience. What followed was the Trials of Knighthood. Kellen was prepared. Not just with his studies but with all the experience provided by his Master. To take all that he learned and form his own path that adhered to the Jedi Code. This is what he took with him. Kellen, without a doubt, passed his Trials of Skill, Courage and Flesh. The Trial of Flesh being the hardest thing Kellen had done yet but with his experience and his masters teachings with him, he pulled through. The Trials of Spirit and Insight required deeper thought than the previous ones. These were not physical. Not really. Kellen had to search deep within himself and open his mind to all possibilities to see the answer. But in the end, he endured as he always proved to be able to do. And so it was decreed, Kellen Mynn was to be raised to Jedi Knight. Following the ceremony, Kellen reluctantly parted ways with Master Vrakin. Though he would always look to the man as a mentor and lifelong friend, it was time he charted his own path. And so he departed Coruscant in his new ship to continue to grow and assist those in need wherever that might be. The next few years, Kellen would return to familiarity and assist on the frontlines of the war. Moving from planet to planet to provide his advice, experience and lightsaber where required. Kellen was known among the Republic soldiers and officers as a reliable warrior and experienced strategist. All that time spent also meant time spent learning how to direct a fight as much as actually fight in one. Kellen was a natural leader, able to give his soldiers concise orders and rally them when things turned back. Always with a back up plan and a way out of any sticky situation. It was ironic how much war destroyed but grew at the same time. Able to destroy as much as it created. But time fighting this war, bringing down enemy troopers and Sith alike, would soon come to an end. An armistice was signed and Kellen was freed from the front lines. He, with some regret, departed his soldiers and moved on. The Jedi were being tasked with relief efforts now that there was no enemy to fight. And although he would miss the comradery he knew this was his time to return to his, and his Orders, roots. Back to mediating, mending and healing. Back to statesman and diplomat rather than commander and warrior. There was a time and place for all the various skills of a Jedi. And Kellen knew, just as his master always taught, that war was inevitable. Episode IV: What Have I Mastered? 3593-3589 BBY Following the war, Kellen returned to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for a period of meditation and inner thought. During this time he instructed younglings and padawans who had lost their Masters in the conflict on various subjects. He found that he often learned just as much as he taught from his students. It was an interesting and eye opening time. The Jedi Order had lost many during the war. One of which included Master Rex Vranik and countless friends Kellen had known during his time at the Temple and beyond. But he accepted their sacrifices and kept their memory alive by passing on their experiences and memories to a new generation of Jedi. It was during this time that he was approached by a member of the High Council with the proposition that he become a Master himself. While usually it required he see a padawan to Knighthood, he had technically done so seeing as a few of his students went on to complete their trials. They were all close by the time he took over their tutelage from their late masters but he aided them in whatever they needed. Unorthodox but these were unorthodox times. And the High Council seemed to agree as Kellen passed his Master Trials and was appointed a Jedi Master before the Order. It had been a long road and he realized he would never be done learning. There was always more knowledge to be had and plenty knowledge to pass on. It was for this reason that Kellen would spend an additional couple of years at the Temple, instructing more younglings in lightsaber combat and other classroom subjects. He felt at ease and a sense of harmony in teaching. Something he lacked while at war for so long. But the galaxy was never a tranquil place. And now, with war on the horizon, Kellen can feel himself being called away again. And he welcomes the challenge. His years spent in self improvement and the instructing of students had its merits, along with the occasional away mission, but he was ready for more. Ready to go out into space once more. |
