A series of insurgent attacks across Dantooine has crippled Sith forces stationed on the planet.
The attacks began early morning local time at the Sith stronghold New Usine — known locally as “Smog City” — targeting a number of supply points and production facilities, and the primary sith fortress. Fighting is reported to have lasted into the afternoon as insurgents seized key targets throughout the city, including the Imperial garrison’s citadel.
Smaller targeted attacks, including bombings and raids, have rippled across Dantooine since the assault on New Usine.
The Sith Empire has yet to confirm casualties, but it is suspected that Imperial and insurgent forces sustained significant losses in the fighting. Baroness Sienna Decou, who has overseen the world for years, is presently unaccounted for.
No group has yet claimed credit for the attack. However, eyewitnesses claim the insurgents were using Republic weapons and military equipment. A flag bearing the emblem of the Dantooine Liberation Army is reportedly flying over the Sith citadel.
The Dantooine Liberation Army offered significant resistance to the Sith occupation after the Empire took the world in the early days of the Pan-Galactic War. Their rebellion lasted until the war’s end, when increased Imperial pressure forced its leaders underground. There has been no reported DLA activity in the years since the end of the war.
Imperial officials have declined to comment on the attacks other than to say that “This inexcusable violence will be dealt with in due course.”
Supreme Chancellor Alder Vrieska’s office has denied any involvement from the Galactic Republic on Dantooine.
However, Dantooine Senator Vonar Kenten — a leading voice in the Senate for the Republic to take a more aggressive stance against the Empire — issued a statement in support of the insurgents.
“Liberty is a cornerstone ideal of the Galactic Republic,” Kenten said. “It should be our priority to assist any voices who cry for freedom from under the heel of tyrants, no matter where they are.”
