Kathar Maiavel Full Name • Birth: Maarken Kelborn; Assumed: Kathar Maiavel Nickname • Kat, Kath Race • Human Birthplace • Actual: Mandalore; Assumed: Unnamed outer rim backwater Age • 27 Gender • Male Sexuality • Homosexual Faction • Jedi Concept • [Rank - 2] Jedi Knight, aspiring Temple Guard/Head of Security/Battle Master Languages • Basic, Coremaic Assets • 1x Lightsaber (Orange, ▇▇▇); Necklace with crest symbol Appearance Face Claim • Stefano Masciolini Height & Weight • 5'10", 189lbs Overall Looks • Kathar dresses in traditional Jedi garb most of the time. The man has yet to branch out fashion wise, and likely would be quite a disaster if not assisted. He keeps his hair cropped short and a short well-trimmed beard, both quite red in the light. If he doesn't keep his hair trimmed, it grows wild and curly - a look he hates. The backs of both hands display subtle scars; a reminder of his past mistakes. Personality Profile Kathar, having mostly fond memories of growing up in the Jedi Temple, is obsessed with the protection of it and the Order. He holds what some might call an unhealthy appreciation of authority, to the point where he would follow orders given by his superiors that others would consider questionable. His faith in the Jedi Order is nigh unshakeable, and he would do anything and everything to defend it; from threats within or without. There is sparse grey in Kathar's black and white world. Consequently, Kathar has very little room for anything outside of the Order. In fact, his knowledge of the outside world is surprisingly limited, focused on Jedi history, their victories and defeats. Perhaps finding friends outside of the Order will help broaden Kathar's perspective? Background Father • Colla Kelborn, 58, Mandalorian Hunter Mother • Maylk Kelborn, 59, Mandalorian Hunter Other Important Connections • Aleseb Besstis, Deceased, Jedi Seeker Overall History • (Crawl Here) The Seeker that found him, Aleseb Besstis, told Maarken and most of the Order that he had found Maarken after his parents had died at the hands of pirates. He was told his parents had been brave settlers on an unnamed backwater planet. It was a lie, crafted by Besstis to hide the truth: he was stolen from Mandalorian parents. Besstis had lost friends and family during the wars and decades later still held a grudge against the people - even their ancestors. Of course, he justified it in his mind by saying that the child, being force sensitive, would be treated poorly or worse by the Mandalorians. Besstis lied to himself and the Order, telling only a select few the truth. He gave Maarken a new name, Kathar Maiavel, and tossed aside his birth name and legacy. Years later, Besstis succumbed to a fever, whittling down the numbers who knew the truth. Kathar grew up in Temple, trained since his arrival to become a Jedi Knight. As he progressed in age, Kathar found himself stumbling over basic tasks. It was difficult for him to focus, words on tablets and ancient scrolls seeming to bleed together into unrecognisable patterns. In all aspects of training, Kathar lagged behind his peers. The source of Kathar's problems was discovered during combat training. While facing off against a fellow padawan, Kathar suddenly turned away from his opponent and tackled another student. Moments later, a falling chunk of rock dislodged by a deflected blaster shot, crashed into the place the student had been. An accident prevented, Kathar tried to put it into words: He saw the rubble falling before the shot had even been fired. The Order put Kathar through rigorous testing and discovered that the boy's precognitive abilities were significantly advanced. All of the learning issues Kathar thought he had were, in fact, side effects of this latent talent: dozens of possibilities bleeding together into an incomprehensible mix. Once this was discovered, and he was taught to filter out or (even better) utilise this ability, Kathar's performance in training improved considerably. A few years later, after a significant milestone, Kathar's friends decided to sneak out of the Temple to celebrate. They begged Kathar to come along, and the boy (already made fun of for how strictly adherent he was) reluctantly agreed. After lights out, they snuck down into the bowels of Coruscant. After all, what couldn't three padawans and their lightsabers handle? They found themselves in a dimly lit bar. Using what little credits they had, the three bought drinks and settled in to celebrate. Kathar, having never drunk before, nursed his while his friends enjoyed themselves a little too much. Kathar, suddenly feeling an urge to leave, tried to persuade his friends - who drunkenly refused, pulling away from Kathar's hand and stumbling into another patron. This, of course, was the perfect way to start a bar fight. Unfortunately, this bar was run by a local gang that, upon hearing there were three Jedi children making trouble, sent in combat droids to deal with them. The bar erupted in blaster fire and lightsabers, and soon Kathar found himself outnumbered and his friends incapacitated. He knelt down and picked up one of his friend's lightsabers. He ignited both, his blue, theirs green, and settled in to defend. An hour later, the word reached the Temple, Jedi Knights burst in. They found Kathar standing over his friends, his own lightsaber destroyed by blaster fire, holding the borrowed saber between bloody hands. Around him, the bar was destroyed, droid parts flung everywhere. Whisked back to the Temple, Kathar awaited his fate. Luckily, nobody died from this little excursion. Weeks of bacta treatment healed their wounds, though they left scars on the back of both of Kathar's hands: Hands he had thrown in the way of blaster fire to protect his friends and their saber. Months passed, and eventually, Kathar was allowed to resume training. He built a new lightsaber, this time igniting an orange blade, and vowed then and there to serve the Temple for the rest of his life, as penance. Years later, Kathar ascended to become a Jedi Knight. Even then, he stayed at the Temple, devoted to protecting it, and missed the fringe conflicts. Now though, the man feels an itch - perhaps he could defend the Temple by leaving it? Who knows. |
