Sorin Asher Full Name • Sorin Asher Race • Human Birthplace • Dromund Kaas Age • 45 Gender • Male Sexuality • Asexual Faction • Imperial Concept • Rank 3 (Imperial Minister of War, Admiral, Moff) Languages • Basic, Sith, Droidspeak, Huttese, Mando'a Assets • Asher family estate, menagerie of dangerous animals, various small ships Appearance Face Claim • Richard Armitage Height & Weight • 6'1", 179 lbs Overall Looks • It's a rare sight to see Sorin out of Imperial uniform, but even then he maintains a conservative sense of style. Dull colours fill his wardrobe, with the man paying little attention to the frivolity of fashion. Of course the clothing is impeccably tailored and cut of the finest cloths and silks; while he finds the expense insulting, he understands the necessity of appearance, especially in the circles he floats through. Ever the military man, Sorin keeps his hair cropped short - always and with no exception. When Sorin sports facial hair, it is meticulously groomed and cut to his high standards. Personality Profile A man of few diversions, Sorin brings to bear on a problem a focus rarely seen. There are few things in the galaxy that Sorin believes he cannot solve - and the rest simply require more time. He carries himself with a self-assurance that some might call arrogance, but his results seem to indicate it's well-earned. He is a man who recognises the flaws in others and seeks to push them to improve. Or exploit them. Whatever accomplishes his goal. Everything is a means to an end, and the ends justify the means. Background Father • Valin Asher, 54 (deceased) Mother • Sirra Asher, 55 (deceased) Siblings • N/A Other Important Connections • Nara Asher, 44 - Wife (deceased) Dana Asher, 26, Imperial Naval Lieutenant-Commander - Daughter (deceased) Many illegitimate children from his time as a young naval officer Overall History • The Ashers were amongst the original founding families of the new Sith Empire, albeit one of minor consequence. Originally from Alderaan, the family matriarch Sarna Asher saw promise in the fledgling state and uplifted her family to Dromund Kaas to begin anew. A shrewd businesswoman, Sarna grew the fortunes of the clan and lifted them from obscurity into the Imperial limelight. Under her guidance, the Ashers became a force to be reckoned with. Upon her passing, her son Valin took the reins of the family estate. Valin saw all that his mother had built and desired more, yet he possessed little of the same acumen. He played the same political games as deftly as his mother, but he lacked the business aptitude to keep their fortunes afloat. For every credit Sarna earned, Valin lost double. Soon the Ashers teetered on the edge of bankruptcy, an unimaginable fate for a family once so prominent. It was into this crisis that Sorin came of age. Ever quiet, ever introspective, Sorin saw the disaster about to befall the family. He'd had very little respect for his father, a man so distant during his childhood, and learning of the terrible state of their finances dashed away any remaining sympathy he held towards the man. His mother, Sirra, did what she could, but Valin was as stubborn as he was inept. When Sorin attempted to talk sense into his father, the boy found himself sent away to an Imperial military boarding school to 'learn some manners'. There, Sorin flourished. A mediocre student in most physical arenas, Sorin showed an unusual aptitude for command. His strategies, while often unorthodox, saw him through the academy with an undefeated record against his fellow students in space, air, and ground domains. He graduated top of his class and rose through the lower ranks quickly. Just before Sorin was to be assigned his first solo command, serving in a critical sector aboard a state-of-the-art cruiser, his mother contacted him. His father had made another poor investment, and now their entire estate was at risk. His family needed his help. Sorin put his Imperial career on hold, and by extension, in jeopardy, to return to Dromund Kaas. There, using what funds he'd invested from his military stipend, Sorin wrested back control of his families finances. For every credit his father lost, Sorin made triple. For an entire cycle, he set his families accounts in order and created strategies to ensure their future prosperity. The military called Sorin back to service at the end of that cycle, and he forbade his father from making any more financial decisions. Humiliated, but with most accounts now under Sorin's control, he had little choice but to accept. The young Asher returned to the Imperial Navy but found himself assigned to guard some religious fanatics on Korriban, a backwater in most peoples estimates, aboard an old frigate. Worse, he wasn't even in command - he was second to an inept captain. His absence had been noted. Despite this apparent snub, Sorin took to the assignment readily. He made frequent trips to the planet, where he learned the ancient language and customs. These trips made him grow increasingly interested in their religion - a religion which he found had surprisingly similar, if opposing, views to the Jedi Order. While eventually transferred away from service in that sector, Sorin kept a keen eye on the Order. This assignment allowed Sorin to see the writing on the wall. While other Imperial families feuded amongst themselves, Sorin saw the creeping hand of the Sith work its way into the Empire. He knew, almost before anyone else, when the fingers started to wrap around its heart. So Sorin became one of the first to pledge allegiance to the new Sith Empire, rebirthed under the guidance of her radiance Empress Renata. Sorin, elevated significantly within the military command, returned home to find his father plotting against the Empress. A small cabal of original Sith aristocratic families resisted the takeover - and his family was at the heart of it. He pled with his mother and father to stop, to recognise that there was no hope, but they refused. Stubborn pride would not allow them to give up their schemes. So Sorin made them stop. He put his father in front of a firing squad and placed his mother under house arrest. The resistance against the Empress stopped before it had even really begun. A few years later his mother passed in her sleep, of a congenital heart defect undetected since birth. The years flew by rapidly, as did the promotions. Quickly, Sorin overtook his classmates who'd promoted ahead of him due to his break in service. He found himself in charge of larger and larger ships, then eventually reached the rank of Admiral and took charge of a fleet. This rank allowed Sorin to watch the rise of his daughter, Dana, through the Imperial academy. She followed the same path Sorin did, though this time without the untimely interruption of family affairs. Her rapid rise saw her put in command of a small light cruiser, and Sorin pulled strings to get in the position of assessing her first command; which put them both above Nar Shaddaa as the final battle against the Acheri Chorus raged. The Betrayal almost destroyed her ship. Heavy cannons ripped through their armour and caused chain reactions which culminated on the bridge. An explosion killed Dana and flung Sorin across the deck, collapsing debris adding to irreparable damage that resulted in permanent injury to Sorin's lower body. After the one-sided fight, the Sith fleet limped home. The Admiral, now trapped in a wheelchair, suffered one more blow when his wife overdosed, unable to bear the loss. When the call came down to Sorin to take up the mantle of Minister of War, he accepted without hesitation. No longer did Sorin have any split loyalties, no family to protect. There were only two things left in his life, a means and an end: The Empire, and the total annihilation of the Republic. |
