It was cold aboard the old XS freighter, it usually was, space was a cold place in general. Arley had tried to get some sleep while he was in hyperspace, but he barely managed a few hours. He hadn't been sleeping well as of late, mostly due to the nightmares that plagued his mind, but there was also the excitement of his next mission that added to his inability to rest as well. He was on his way to meet an information broker on Nar Shaddaa, a planet that he'd been seeing more and more of. Arley frequented seedy planets quite often. Havens for criminal activity were a great place to gather information...if one knew where to look and knew the right people.
Arley was going to meet a Twi'lek named Deppevis, who often supplied him with information, albeit reluctantly, after Arley saved him from being killed by a sect of criminals called the Taral Group. The Taral Group was a criminal organization under the guise of a legitimate business, lead by a very rich man named Berron Taral, whose main focus was trafficking people to small settlements to work on his spice mining operations, though he was suspected to have a hand in much more than drugs, like most criminals who operated outside Republic and Imperial space. His legal mining business, mined fuel and other valuable materials that supplied many of the big companies across the galaxy, but Arley had spent the last few months gaining evidence of his more nefarious activities.
He wouldn't be presenting this information to have Taral convicted though, he was getting this intelligence to figure out how to get close to him, as Taral was elusive. But, Arley's job wasn't to bring him in, it was to assassinate him. By killing Taral it would not only disrupt his criminal activities it would completely destabilize his mining operations that used slave labor of millions of innocent species, including children. His operation also spanned many planets and asteroids, but the main reason for his assassination was the crimes he committed against the galaxy, hed killed billions of people, due to uprisings from his forced laborers, he was essentially a tyrant who ruled with an iron fist.
Taral had evaded any sort of legal scrutiny because of his legitimate businesses that supplied many companies and he was good a hiding his illegal activities. There also wasn't enough evidence for the Republic or Empire to do anything to him, that, and the fact he didnt work in any of their sectors. He had a knack for staying out from under the eyes of the two biggest powers. This was a huge galaxy and it wasn't hard for someone with the capital to run an operation like Taral was, and when you could hide behind multiple big money corporations, it made it even easier.
Arley got up and cleaned himself off at the 'fresher as he was almost at his destination, his computer in his room had sent an alert that he was close. He dressed in a black jacket with a hood and a simple black outfit. He had to blend, so wearing his robes was a no go, it would just draw attention. He clipped his Lightsaber to his belt, it was easily hidden by the jacket and made his way to the cockpit of his ship. The freighter popped out of hyperspace and he could see the artificially lit planet in the distance and began his approach to a landing pad in the red light sector.
He went to meet Deppevis in a rather swanky club in the heart of the sector, when he walked in the club loud music roared in his ears and it smelled of a mixture of Twi'lek aroma sets. Dancers pranced around on different glowing platforms situated around the large room, in the middle sat a large circular bar. Arley went to the bar and ordered himself a brandy and sat down at an empty booth and waited for his contact. After about twenty minutes he saw Deppevis sauntering toward him, his tattooed lekku glinting in the flashing lights above them. He had a drink in his hand and seemed to already be a little drunk.
The reddish Twi'lek sat down and greeted Arley, the two exchanged a casual conversation as they sipped their drinks. Arley looked around for anyone out of place, when he saw nobody he got down to business. He asked Deppevis for the information that he was there for and the man slid a data pad across the table, Arley put it in the chest pocket of his jacket. The Twi'lek then asked him to stay awhile and enjoy what the club had to offer, but Arley declined. If anyone was watching it looked like a meeting between two friends, Deppevis was a great actor, because the two were not friends, merely business associates. The Twi'lek had a reputation for being a swindler and Arley had a feeling that he would betray their shaky relationship if it benefitted him in the slightest.
Arley left the club, twisting down alleys incase he was followed, an uncomfortable feeling stayed with him as he left the club, and he could sense a presence of another force user around him, which was strange, but Nar Shaddaa was swirling with energy so it was difficult to place. When he was sure he was alone he looked at the data pad, it said that Taral would be here meeting with some corporate big wig here in about 5 hours in the business sector. Arley thought about that for a second...something wasn't right about this, if Taral was or was coming here...why was Deppevis partying in a club? Arley knew that people often came here to hide, but Taral was looking for Dep and the man's associates were very good at finding people...And that Twi'lek was a lot of things be he wasn't an idiot. But Dep was in with the Cartel so maybe he wasn't worried because of their protection, Arley didn't know, but this chance to take out Berron Taral was too good to pass up and he may not get another chance like this so he started to the business sector to do a bit of recon.
Arley could hear footsteps behind him as he walked out of the alleyway, hed hoped the person following him wasn't one of Taral's people he hoped they hadn't made him yet. He picked up his pace out of the alley but not too much to draw suspicion, he got out into a busy crowd and accidentally ran into someone.
"Sorry about that, wasn't paying attention to where I was going,"
