She comes from a long line of military tradition, honing her bloodline into ideal soldiers. She is muscular and keeps her black hair cut short. Grey-blue eyes sit under low brows and above proud, noble cheekbones. She is most often seen in military dress and prefers the utilitarian look even when not in uniform. Though she bears the scars of a hard soldier’s life, none have marred her too noticeably. She bears no tattoos, but does have multiple piercings in each ear. Her only other common adornment is a necklace that features a medallion with her family’s Bloodfin crest. Personality Profile Seraphina was born into a family that can trace its military tradition as far back as records exist. This instilled in a deep sense of duty and honor within the family, and she is no different. She was educated in military academies and showed great promise from an early age. She is intelligent, orderly, and possessed of a discerning eye. She has a respect for the chain of command and a deep sense of honor. Never known to hesitate, Seraphina carries out her orders with a cool thoroughness that sets her apart from even the most distinguished soldiers. But she is no droid, devoid of emotion or humor. Along with a soldier’s sense of honor and duty, Seraphina finds great joy in the camaraderie found among her fellow soldiers. There is nothing stronger than the bonds forged in the fires of combat and Seraphina is fiercely loyal to those she’s come to know in her career. She is also not a mindless or cruel beast. She does not believe in pointless slaughter or other evil pursuits. This sets her at odds with many of the Sith Order operatives she has encountered while in service to the Imperial military. As she ages, Seraphina has found herself taking on more of a mentor and teaching position, training the next wave of military heroes. She takes well to the task, finding the work fulfilling. And, to some extent, she longs for the hills of her homeworld and hopes to retire soon. Background Father • Gereon Sr., 78, Planetary General (Retired) Mother • Isaura, 76, Planetary Naval Intelligence Chief of Staff (Retired) Siblings • Gereon Jr., 48, Imperial Fleet Admiral Other Important Connections • Cipher/Fixer Twenty-Six (Quinn Fraley), 36, Former Imperial Intelligence Officer Overall History • The Verdandi family had been widely known on their home planet as military icons for countless generations before Gereon and Isaura bore their children. The question that loomed over Gereon Jr. and his younger sister was not if they would carry on the tradition, but rather how. They were both shipped off to academies as soon as they were old enough. Through the years, they would spend more of their lives at these prestigious institutions than they would in their own home. While they certainly enjoyed the benefits of their name while in school, it would not be fair to say that they had it easy. On the contrary, many of the teachers and trainers they worked with were extra hard on the Verdandi siblings, knowing that they were cut out for command. It was important that the next generation was up to snuff. Seraphina took well to the discipline and physical nature of her education, but did not flourish quite in the same way as her brother. Where he made social connections as easy as breathing, Seraphina struggled to find her own social group. Where he consistently performed at genius levels academically, Seraphina made do with being simply above average. The areas where she did outshine her brother, however, were of the more physical nature. From an early age, Seraphina proved to be a crack shot, a tireless athlete, and a cunning fighter. Upon completing her primary education, Seraphina followed her brother to the Braxant Sector Officer Training Academy. While only two years her senior, Gereon might as well have been light years away. His star was rising, and with the Outer Rim Aristocracies teeming, it seemed such men were just what would soon be needed. Life at the BSOTA was in many ways similar to her schooling before. Seraphina proved remarkable in physical and combat related pursuits, while remaining above average in more academic areas. The difference was that, in this institution, most cadets were beginning to shift their focus away from the more hands-on aspects of military life and preparing themselves to lead from the desk, as it were. Seraphina found herself in smaller company among those whose aptitude remained field-focused. In the end, it was this predisposition that set the trajectory for her career. Her proclivity toward the physical, coupled with her extensive education in command, suited her to a very specific type of leadership. Seraphina exited the BSOTA as a Captain, slated for command of a Special Forces unit. The next four years were spent in advanced training and the selection of enlisted operators that would come under her command. Seraphina had very minimal contact with her family during this time. Her parents were proud of her, of course, but she still lived in the shadow of her brother who was already rising through the ranks of the admiralty with incredible speed. But that mattered very little to Seraphina. She'd found where she belonged. Tension in the Outer Rim was building as Seraphina came into her own as a Special Forces Captain. She was keenly aware of the political turmoil; it was practically in her blood to note such things. But she kept it all at a distance. Politics was for politicians. It mattered very little to Seraphina that the Aristocrats felt insulted by the alleged neglect of the Core Worlds. That level of government never really meant that much to her. Seraphina fought for her family, for her home planet and sector. Wherever their allegiance lay, so did hers. As it so happened, the Braxant Sector found itself allying with the Aristocracy that would establish the Sith Empire. With the declaration of separation from the Republic came an upswing in missions. Seraphina found herself commanding an elite group known as Cresh Team, and taking on the code name Cresh-34. Her team wass deployed to border systems, countering insurgent forces and training local military forces in advanced tactics to keep the new peace. For a time, it seemed the galaxy was accepting the new order of things, but something in her blood was stirring. War was on the horizon, and the Aristocrats' new allies were bringing it. At first, the talk of Sith Lords and their new "Order" seemed rather silly, but it soon became evident that the Sith truly had returned. With them, the bold first moves began, and war with the Republic began in earnest. Seraphina found herself actively deployed from the onset, moving from system to system as the Sith Empire washed over countless Outer Rim planets. The Republic, bloated and sluggish, could do little to stop them at first. The first years felt less like war and more like some sort of game. But that feeling soon stopped when the force using factions joined the fray. The Sith grew bolder with each victory, and that couldn't go unanswered for long. Soon enough, some of the Jedi joined with the Republic and their merry conquest became a true test of military might. For two years straight, and with hardly a chance to breathe between missions, Seraphina fought. She fought all the way to Taris. The horrors she saw on Taris are some of the few things that haunt Seraphina to this day. Her whole team, soldiers she'd been with from the beginning, were wiped out. She has begun to lose the details of their faces in her memory, but their screams are fresh as ever. She saw her first orders for shore leave after Taris, and she watched the unification of the Sith Order and Empire under the new Empress Renata on a holoscreen in her room back at home. She remembers little else from her blessed time of rest, for she used it for that exact purpose. Sleep was practically all she did until she was called back to service. Everything was new after Taris. Command structures now included mysterious and brooding beings who insisted on being called Lord this or Lady that. They were brutal, impulsive, and cruel... seemingly just for the fun of it. Seraphina never trusted any of them, but she was a soldier. She followed orders. She was tasked with reforming Cresh Team with a new team of operators. While it would take some time to adjust to new people and their personalities, it was not actually all that difficult finding competent soldiers. There was a war on, after all. They did not want for experience. For a time, Cresh Team also included a new Intelligence Officer assigned to run their logistics and oversee the intel that would inform their missions. This man, designated as Cipher Twenty-Six, was little more than a code name on an intel packet to Seraphina. But, he proved to be a thorough and capable officer. The information he brought the team was vital and likely kept them all alive while he managed their missions. His stint, however, was short lived and Cipher Twenty-Six would soon be followed by a more frequently changing stream of other faceless code names. Maybe the new command did not wish to keep their Intelligence Officers working with one team for too long. Maybe they didn't like Cipher Twenty-Six. Maybe they liked him so much that they promoted him. Seraphina had no way of knowing. She was a soldier. She followed orders. Consolidated under the sole power of the Empress, the Imperial war machine soon found its stride and began to push coreward again. Seraphina and her new team found themselves thrown back into the thick of combat, pushing ever closer to the heart of the Republic. When the time for the Battle of Coruscant came, Seraphina was one of the first to make the orbital drops down into the fray. She was also one of the last to board a transport as they beat a hasty retreat. It was a bitter day. They'd come so close to victory, but it was snatched away. The armistice was bitter as well. Suddenly, after years of fighting, Seraphina was told to go home. Officially, she was granted leave for a good portion of the "peace" that followed. Unofficially, Seraphina found herself immersed in "social" events hosted at her home where her parents, her brother, and others whose lifeblood relied on the military industrial complex schemed. When not forced to rub shoulders with the military elite, Seraphina found herself back at the academies, advising and even stepping into the role of instructor from time to time. She was surprised at how much she enjoyed the work. Seeing the next generation blossoming under her guidance was never something she expected to cherish. But she did. Perhaps it was the effect of too much leave from active duty. Strangely, it was through these new stints as instructor that Seraphina encountered Cipher Twenty-Six again. Though, this time, he was designated Fixer Twenty-Six. Even more strangely, she was afforded the opportunity to meet the man in person. He was gruffer than she expected; rough, like he'd been put through the shit, but still quite young. With him, Seraphina planned a number of field exercises for operators nearing the end of the advanced training. It was easy work, with no real consequences. Seraphina didn't know the man well -hardly at all to be honest- but he didn't seem to care for the gig much. When she was suddenly assigned a new Fixer, Seraphina imagined Twenty-Six had simply had enough and moved on to more promising prospects. As she settled into the role of instructor, and did her best to avoid the never ending parade of social gatherings her family put on, Seraphina found herself toying with the idea of retirement from active duty. She was getting older, after all. Was it not time to step aside and let the young bucks take their shot? She was just starting to get comfortable with the idea when the Archeri Chorus attacked. And just like that, all thought of retirement was swept aside. She wasn't done fighting yet. It was a strange thing, working alongside her Republic counterparts against the extragalactic menace. But it was also strangely satisfying. She never held any personal dislike for those she'd called her enemy and it seemed that the reverse was true, for the most part. Indeed, Seraphina quite enjoyed the joint operations she participated in with the Republic Special Forces units on Nar Shaddaa. It made the betrayal of their ship captains after the defeat of the Singing Spire all the more disappointing. If there was one thing she'd always relied on as a soldier, it was the trust that she could have in the honor of combat. When that was broken, it put a very sour taste in her mouth. How could she find honor in fighting the Republic now? How could it not be personal? |
