Hey, this suggestion isn't super prudent or anything, I've just been reading through the posting history here and have been seeing something pop up a lot:
People don't know the difference between Special Forces and Intelligence. As someone entering Navy ROTC and likely applying for SEAL training afterwards, I'll explain it.
Intelligence refers to services that engage in intelligence gathering/espionage. They are your spies, etc. The CIA, MI6, etc. would fall under this category. They do not take part in Military missions, and are not involved with the sabotage/infiltration/kill a hell of a lot of enemy troopers that Intelligence characters have been doing on this site. That is where Special Forces come in.
Spec Ops troopers, like the Green Berets, Delta Force, SEALS, and SAS, DO NOT take part in undercover intelligence missions and the like. They are an elite task force that is specifically military. They're geared up just like soldiers, and their primary objective is to achieve disruption in enemy forces through hit and run missions, sabotage, and other unconventional tactics during warfare. They are also heavily involved in reconnaissance operations.
There have been instances where the duties of these two groups have merged somewhat, such as Nazi special forces commandos masquerading at American GIs in order to mislead supply convoys during the Battle of the Bulge. But in almost every case, these are separate entities with separate duties and tactics.
I've posted this because most "Special Ops" characters on this site are usually a combination of both, with the exception of my Special Forces character, Ardent Kuundra. The fact is that Special Forces commandos should not be dressing up and acting like Intelligence Agents, and Intelligence Agents should not be blowing things up from behind enemy lines and taking out dudes like they're SEALS. The precedent for this has also been set in the Star Wars EU, where the Galactic Empire and New Republic both had Intelligence services that functioned much like they do on Earth, while there existed separate Special Forces units, for example the Empire's Storm Commandos, that function like Special Forces do today.
So don't mix the two up. They're different.
Yeah the poll really had nothing to do with this, I'm just hungry.
