Name: Verun Shepard
Race: Human
Age: 20
Height: 5"9
Weight: 150 lbs.
Appearance: Verun has dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He is thin for his age, and not very muscular thanks to long hours of study and never working out. He is a little stronger than he looks though, having grown up on the farming planet of Dantooine.
He usually wears his military uniform howver when he is off duty he usually wears very casual, comfortable clothes. He is not really used to style and Coruscant and his attempts at matching usually fail. He is more at home in the dull farm clothes he used to wear as a kid.
Birth place: Dantooine
Faction: Republic Military
Department: Army
Rank:Corporal
Bio: Verun was born to a very young couple on Dantooine. His parents, having recently bought a farm on Dantooine. They enjoyed a quiet life, unbtil the Sith occupation, though for the parents, it didn't matter as much. They really never gave any thought as to who they preffered. Verun grew up learning all about animals and different farming techniques howver he wasn't truely interested. He would always try to skip out on chores in order to find a quiet place to read. He usually read books way beyond his level, books his parents had put away. He couldn't uinderstand half the words but the new knowledge fascinated him.
Years later, when he had taught himself to read he moved up on the level of books he could read. One day, his mom found he was reading one of her old medical books from when she had tried medical school. She asked her son about it and it appeared he was genuinely interested. At every moment of his free time he would always ask his mom to teach him all about it. Soon, he was the little doctor, trying to cure the animals of a disease he had made up. His parents started to see that maybe the farm life wasn't for their son and started saving money away for schooling.
When he was nine his parents had another baby. They had to get a house call from the local doctor to deliver the baby. Verun had to be kicked out of the house because he wouldn't stop distracting the doctor. He kept on asking the doctor about this wound, and that treatment. After the birth, the doctor offered to take the young Verun under his wing and train him. They readily accepted, Verun was becoming more and more a liability on the farm. Verun's days were now filled with making errands for the doctor and studying, while his nights were filled with bieng a good brother. His new brother Kaim, was born with a disease where his eyesight is slowly dieing, and he liked helping his little brother around and to make him comfortable.
Eventually, when he turned 19, his parents showed him the money that they had stashed away. He was becoming a good doctor but they told him that there was better schooling in the Core Worlds, on Coruscant specifically. He counted the money and realised that this would be enough to buy a one way trip and one year of schooling. He thanked his parents, and with the little spare change he had he bought his little brother a gold choker. He then left to follow his dreams.
After his first year of medical school he got a message from his parents. After the usual pleasantries his parents told him the bad news. His condition hadn't improved and he was on the verge of losing his eyesight forever. Verun acted without thinking, he sent all the money he had earned to his family to pay for the surgery. when asked, he lied, saying that he had become a doctor early and was making a lot. After the conversation, he realiosed that he had barely any money left to live, and with his fake job, his parents would expect gifts from time to time. He knew that he couldn't start a medical practice with no credentials to back him up. He realised that the only way to make quick credits with his lack of credentials (without doing something illegal) was to join the military. He signed on as a field medic, using his previous knowledge of medicine to give him an advantage in training. He hoped this would cover his utter lack of combat knowledge, he found that in practice guns made him nervous and the sound of gunfire almost put him into shock. Verun, also realising that that he gets very nervous when treating emergency patients is trying to find ways to calm him down. Still wondering how he survived the first couple of days in the army, he became a cadet. Through his training, his superiors had noticed his medical talent. Despite this, Verun found that he did very well with his vibroblade. His medical knowledge of where to cut someone gives him an advantage. Unfortunately, his blaster scores weren't up to par. He gets nervous and panicky with a gun in his hands, and he tends to shake and mess up his aim.

Verun sprinted from his cover as blaster fire followed him. He turned, shotting erratically, trying to draw off fire. His hands were shaky, and he almost dropped his blaster. The foreign soil of the nameless planet crunched under his boots as blaster bolts singed the ground around him. He launched himself in the air, diving behind a rock that was now his new cover. He heard the gunfire, and he felt himself starting to lose it. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply. When he opened them he found his target. A fellow republic soldier been shot and he had managed to crawl his way back to cover. He was pinned down though, and the plasma burns in his leg weren't helping his situation. He paused for one more second.
"One...two...three!" He whispered as he launched himself in the open. He unholstered his blaster and fired in the direction of the enemy. He reached the fallen soldier and quickly pulled out his medpac. The wound was bad, and bleeding a lot. He grabbed a needle filled with bacta, a doctor's best friend. He checked it as the man groaned in pain.
"You'll only feel a pinch, try to hold on." He said sympathetically when his check was over. He ripped the clothes around the wound.
He injected the fluid in the area where the wound was. Then he grabbed some bandages and wrapped it tightly around his leg. The crunching of the soil was what brought his attention to an enemy scout. The scout, noticing he as caught drew his vibroblade confidently. Verun grabbed his own and attacked. The sith soldier blocked it and pushed. Verun was sent off balance as his sword went up in the air. He jumped in order to avoid the new attack, just dodging. He felt a sharp pain in his leg, realising that he had been his slightly. The sith went for a new attack and Verun rolled under it. He spun around, slicing the other man's tendons behind the kneecap. The scout went down in a surprised gurgle of pain.
Verun noticed that more soldiers were coming. He quickly wrapped his own cut and then grabbed his patient. He slung one arm over his shoulder.
"Listen, we have to move. It may hurt but I need you to walk." He said calmly to the patient. It was important that he acted calm because he was very panicked. He started to try to run but gasps of pain from his patient stopped him. He tilted his head to see what was happening behind them.
A squad of soldiers were catching up on them, and they were coming fast. Verun panicked, as a million thoughts raced through his head. Should he leave the patient, or be caught with him? Maybe it was better to surrender, but would the Sith kill them? Verun may have been weak and nervous, but he wasn't a coward. If he could survive the transition between the farming community of Dantooine to the city of Coruscant he would survive this. They caught up quickly because he had stopped running. He held his hands up.
"We surrender. Please, just make sure this guy gets medical attention." He said, trying hard not to stammer.
The Sith soldier seemed to have laughed. He raised his gun, and shot. Everything went black.
Verun pulled off the training simulation helmet quickly, he found he was sweating. His heart was racing a mile a minute. His eyes eventually met those of the commanding officer, who did not look pleased.
"Verun! You let the enemy get the better of you! You call yourself a soldier! Go wash up and get some rest. The lot of you scored very badly!" He yelled at the unit who had been taking the test.
Verun quickly walked out of the training room and took a pause to catch his breath. He took out a photo of his family, and reminded himself of why he was doing this. He breathed a little easier as he put the photo away.
