LARP

For those who don't already know, LARP stands for live action roleplaying. It's like what we do, exept in person while trudging round a field (like glastonbury festival but with more elves, i'd expect).
I don't do it myself but i'm kinda drawn to it. I wondered if any of you guys did it, cause if so it'd be great to talk about.

Now, I've never tried it myself, I think it looks a bit too... silly shall we say. The only concept about it I like is 'you have weapon, I have weapon, let's fight!'. But all that magic and really in-depth stuff is kinda just too much for me.

I've gone to LARPing with the Knight Realms company. I haven't been there recently due to some financial troubles I've run into, but I did go out for a couple of events and thought it was really fun. I want to get back into it, I just need to take care of a few things first.

Yeah, i found out LARPing by the tough gig series aswell, I thought it looked really cool.
I don't know about 'In depth stuff' but it really only looks like what we're doing now but in person, which widens role playing oppertunities. Plus they all look like my kind of people.

I LARP at AnimeCons whenever there is one, Best one so far was when I was at Nekocon last year and a 40-person battle erupted when Light Used the Death Note to Kill Gaara, releasing his Demon...

I "LARP" with my friends all the time. Never full on make-up and charging around fields tagging "-eth" to the end of every word though. Ours are a lot tamer. Mostly imagined. It's odd, one of my friends likes things very technical in which case I'm not actually a character but the narrator who fills in for minor characters along the way. He prefers the sort of "you take 7 damage thing" and gets angry if I say "you got...uh...a bunch of gold, giving you a total of...uh..a bunch more."

My other friend and a few of his friends is much more fun however. "The Game" as we call it, fluctuates contantly. One hour we're leaping about with staves in the front yard knocking eachother off our feet with imaginary blasts, the next we're sitting on his bed just talking it through. Setting has taken place everywhere from Azeroth (World of Warcraft) to deep space (star wars, docter who, a bit of both + a bunch of made up stuff).

So you see, LARR doesn't always have to be this "in depth" but it just isn't as fun without the sound effects and imaginary energy blasts.

I am an ex LARPer. My ST (story teller, equivilant to a dungeon master, etc.) went all religious and stopped gaming and even hanging out with us. I never did and never will do a classic medieval knights thing, we actually did a setting called the World of Darkness, or WoD for short. Basically us bein vampires that keep humanity in the dark about supernatural society and etc etc. But aaaaanyways, I have to agree in the fact that doing it in public or even semi public is a bit embarrassing and well....silly. BUT! we used to do it on our ST's farm which was huge so we always had room to LARP in. It was fun but i'd suggest a more.....eh.....productive form of entertainment.

Indeed, Daleks versus "alien things", battling across universes was fun. Until We made a peace treaty. I love those rps! I wish we could do them again.
