Vex stiffened as she moved over, seeking comfort. He was not used to being close to people or to trying to provide comfort to them. He had never dealt with such and had purposefully distanced himself from such contact with others. So, while he didn't pull away from her, he didn't exactly do anything in order to encourage her to stay longer either.
He felt the deluge of emotions and images pouring into his mind and he slammed his mental walls down, cutting off the connection that he had helped open between them. That was an even more intimate situation that he had even less of an understanding for. It was bad enough that she spurred him on to do foolish actions in her defense. It wasn't logical to him...and that unsettled him more than anything.
"Of course I wouldn't, Aunna....only you could possibly understand what it is to have everything you know, your entire life, stripped from you in one agonizing moment...leaving you bereft, lost, and alone. Who else could possibly understand such a thing?" His tone was ascerbic, dripping with the sarcasm he felt at her words. Of all the people she knew, his history was the most similar to hers, especially at this point.

As she moved closer, he didn't stop her...he didn't welcome her, but he didn't stop her...and that was good enough. She was, however, startled upright when he closed himself off from her completely. Oh god, what had she done now? He couldn't have been seeing what she had...right? Unsure, she moved away from him once more and curled into the seat, wrapping her arms about herself and withdrawing...for all intensive purposes...from the world around her. Her crying had stopped, but she still shook as her body attempted to settle itself once more. As he spoke once more, she winced. Each of his words sliced into her like a knife. He had, indeed, warned her of this very thing on Manaan when they had first talked in that dive bar.
Even so, the tone he used was what caused the most damage. Turning her face away, she tried to decide what to do now. She couldn't very well go back to her apartment and gather anything she might need, no, she had to start with nothing so....huffing, her thoughts turned back to his words. God how they ate away at her, made her angry at him.
Ok....you were right! Are you happy now? With me saying that you were right? Will that make you feel better? There. Done. Now your wounded pride can heal from way back when on Manaan when I obviously hurt you so badly to bring it up now. So...With that piece of business out of the way, can we move on?
She said bitterly, not bothering to look at him.
Perhaps you would like to take it out of my hide too? Would THAT will make you feel better? Oh, better yet! You could just keep saying sarcastic remarks like that...you wouldn't have to do a THING then...you could just take it all out on me and you could think nothing of it because they're just words right?
Calming, she lowered her head and sighed. What had she hoped to accomplish with that? Drive him away? Was that what she wanted right now? To be away from him? Would she survive these first weeks alone while she ran from the law? No, she doubted it. She was crafty, but she wasn't skilled in such things. Groaning slightly, she put one hand to her face and sighed again.
I'm sorry. That was uncalled for. I don't know what I just did to make you so angry that you had to say something like that to me but....
Look, Vex....I'm really counting on you right now. As...as strange as it is to say it...I REALLY need your help.
...Please...
She guessed that this last whispered thought wouldn't reach him, behind those fortress walls he called his mind, but it was there, hanging between them anyway, a silent plea for help from the one person she could turn to.

If anything, her words made him smile. He lowered that mask, letting her see the lopsided smirk that curled his lips. That mirth did not reach his eyes however. Those remained black, cold, and unresponsive. Whatever he'd done mentally, she could see the wall there, in those eyes, cutting him off from her emotions and thoughts...and cutting him off from his own in the process.
"This has nothing to do Manaan. You say I have no idea what this has been like...I, who lost everything...was crippled and left to my own devices. I know what this is like, woman."
He closed the distance between them, his hand slipping beneath hers so his grip closed about her throat, under her jaw line. It wasn't hard to lift her to her feet off of that chair and press her against the bulkhead wall. He didn't choke her, but the solid pressure about her tender neck made it more than a little apparent that he could do so with but a thought. He looked directly into her eyes, those black ones boring into hers while he leaned in close, face a mere few inches from her own. His breath was cool against her cheeks as he spoke in that deathly quiet whisper.
"I know you need my help, Aunna. I wouldn't be here if you didn't...because you wouldn't have been about to let yourself die..."

And here it came...the one thing she expected from him. It was SO expected in fact, that when he did grab her throat and lift her off the seat, she laughed. It wasn't what one would typically consider a laugh, a sound created out of good feelings and happiness, but instead a bitter and dark thing.
Back to this are we?
She asked, blinking at him quietly. Aunna didn't feel like causing a fuss this time around, he wasn't choking her, and even if he decided to she wasn't entirely certain that she would stop him.
Go ahead. If you want to undo everything you just did and squeeze that hand of yours, go ahead. If you wish to leave, go ahead. Even knowing that I can't hope to get off of this forsaken planet without your help, it won't stop me from trying. Otherwise, put me down and tell me what your plan is Mr Praetor.
His eyes were black as night, cold and closed off to all emotion. Her own blue eyes were like crystals of ice, cold and calculating, waiting for him to make his move so she knew what hers would be. No doubt if the bird-droid in the back were still conscious it would find this situation disturbing and intriguing. Aunna ignored the pain he was causing her injured shoulder by lifting her this way, causing it to rub against the back of the seat, cracking and breaking off what scab had started to form over the injury.
Well? Are you going to put me down or not?
She asked after several moments of silence from the man. The thin fabric of the dress allowed her to notice just how cold the metal of the bulkhead was and she shivered again ever so slightly as she waited for his answer.

"If you weren't serving a death sentence, I would have left you there in prison. At least then you wouldn't have been a danger to yourself any longer, woman." Came his response as he ignored the rest of her words and simply responded with how he felt. The hand at her throat slipped around, cupping the back of her neck...pulling her closer as those pale, cool lips caressed against the curve of her ear with each raspy syllable.
"I will do everything in my power to keep you safe, protect you, and get you away from this planet...but I need you, little one, to not feel sorry for yourself or guilty about this. Do not wrongly convict yourself as they have done for you. You are better than that." He trailed off, not pulling away from being this close, his breath stirring the hair at her nape as he awaited her response.

With his first words, Aunna's eyes cast themselves downward. There was nothing worse than being chided by someone who you cared for, especially after something so traumatic...and to have him say it that way...ugh, how much worse was he going to make her feel today? However, instead of continuing on, or letting her drop to the ground as she had expected, he lowered her gently, putting his hand to the back of her sore neck. As he pulled her in closer she winced slightly. Her ribs where that dratted cathar had booted her still hurt. Ignoring it, and the hot sensation in her skin, she focused on what he said.
Her cheek brushed against the cool skin of his face and she was certain he'd be able to tell she was blushing. God she hated having the ability to blush...one was never able to tell if others noticed or not. His words calmed her and even after he was done, to her surprise, he didn't move away.
I...understand. I can't promise that it'll always work, but I can try. It's the least I can do. Just...please...try to be patient with me. I am, after all, only human. You and I both know I'll make mistakes...but...I'll try my best to do what you ask.
She replied, her voice just above a whisper as she stood there with him, uncertain of if it was safe to move or not. She couldn't understand him...one moment he was at her throat, the next pulling her close and promising to keep her safe. She chuckled slightly at that thought, the first real sign of mirth from her in the past month...not the dark and cold sound that she'd found creeping it's way out of her throat so recently.
You think I confuse you...you're not much better.
She murmured, trying to ignore his breath against her neck. Lightly she brushed the edge of her forehead against his face, the hair there brushing against him lightly before she started to move away, unsure if he was comfortable with remaining that close.

He wasn't. There was a part of him that wanted to reach out...that wanted to remain close. Somewhere within, an unconscious part of him was aware that the woman would not judge him...had gotten past the part of condemning him based on what he was. A part of him knew that she accepted him...wanted to be close to him...but the majority of him rebelled against the idea, certain it would only lead to pain. She brushed against him in that way and then drew away...he allowed it, his fingertips only trailing along her arm as it drew back from him before he turned away and moved towards the back of that shuttle.
"There has to be some medical supplies on this ship. Sit, Aunna...recline the chair a bit and relax...I'll find something to patch up your arm. As for why I confuse you...that makes no sense...as I have always made my intentions and desires clear."
The last was more a lie to himself than to her...as he did not understand what it was he felt in regards to her, which caused him no small amount of consternation. Nevertheless...he was not about to divulge his innermost feelings. Not to her or anyone. She'd been fortunate that one time, on Manaan. He was far too paranoid of a creature to do that often.
The dark shadow of a man walked down the short corridor, searching for the medical kit.

((modified...and for future reference...this transport is a prisoner transport for facilities on this planet alone...it's not space worthy.))
Aunna sighed and stepped away completely, the skin of her bare arm tingling as his hand ran across it. The fact that he hadn't moved it when she had started to move away made her wonder about just what he DID feel. She doubted she would find out any time soon...he was afraid of those feelings for some reason...perhaps the same reason she had been. The same reason she still was. Doing as she was told, she moved toward the seat, scooping up the little droid as she went and turning it over in her hands slightly. Sitting down in the co-pilot's seat, she glanced back over the seat back to see just what he was doing. Chuckling again, she shook her head slightly.
All the way in the back, in the guard gate. That's where they keep the med kits.
She told him. Yeah...that said she'd been in one of these things far to often lately. Looking back to the little droid, she sighed slightly.
Alright friend...let's see if I can't fix you up a bit...you don't look to be in too bad a shape and I'm sure your partner will be missing you.
Aunna carefully looked it over, squinting from time to time. Ugh, her brother always had gotten off easy in life...his site was perfect...only reason for those dratted glasses had been the explosion, so they were a bit more sensitive. Her, on the other hand, she needed them to read...the smaller details were things her eyes missed. Tilting her head to the side, she noticed a thin sheet of mesh. Drat, she'd need something to get in there and pull it out again...it looked like it could have been some kind of solar energy collector. Shaking her head, she set the little droid in her lap and searched the compartments closest to her.
Finally she found a small repair kit. Smiling a little to herself, she set about trying to pick the solar collector out from where it had retracted. After a few attempts, she managed to dislodge the mesh, seeing that it looked like...feathers? Well, that was appropriate. Turning the little droid, she set to work on unfurling the other set of 'feathers', her slim fingers working more swiftly this time around, now that she knew approximately how to dislodge them without damaging anything.
Vex, earlier you seemed to recognize this little droid...do you? Was the sniper today the one from Nar Shaddaa?

The sniper of Nar Shadaa flinched as he heard the crack of energy and saw the plume of smoke arise from behind the wall. No....NO! Sean rifled through his back frantically and yanked out the comlink. Ayer, do you copy? Ayer! The comlink clattered to the floor as Sean buried his face in his hands. The AER-03 reconnaissance was equipped with a standard discharge emitter. The concept was simple: the droid could release any excess energy stored in the battery to deter any potential captors. This was only a simple self-defense measure and was normally limited to contact with the droid having to be present in order to sufficiently stun the target. However, the potential energy that could be released by tapping primary systems was tremendous. The self-preservation program the AER series possessed would normally prevent such a usage, but Ayer was different. When Sean had first been issued the AER-03 recon droid, he was encouraged to reprogram it to his tastes. He had removed the limiters. Her had given it the right to make its own decisions and to question authority. A marksman had to be able to adapt to new situations and work independently, and hence should his recon droid. Now Ayer had done just that... Sean swallowed a sob and peered out the window. The smoke had cleared and several of the survivors were starting to stir, rubbing large welts and treating their wounded comrades. Aunna and the Jedi were nowhere to be seen, he could only hope they escaped.... Sean's heart skipped a beat as he heard footsteps racing up the staircase behind him. Almost without thinking, he grabbed his rifle and tossed it behind an old cabinet. He had just finished concealing the rest of his equipment when a group of Republic guards stormed into view, weapons raised. Upon seeing Sean, they snapped to attention and saluted. The marksman thought quickly. No sign of the fugitives in this establishment men! Search the surrounding area until they are found! Sean pondered a moment then continued. If you locate them, attempt to capture them, then radio me so I can take them into custody. Understood? "Yes sir!" The soldiers saluted once more then ran back down the stairs while Sean slumped against the wall. That was too close. His job was done, he just needed to blend in and hope to god he wouldn't be branded a traitor himself. ___________________________________________________________________________ EMERGENCY POWER ONLINE SYSTEM REBOOTING The words flashed in front of static. No, not static....the image was getting clearer. He was inside, there was a figure over him. Ayer's optical sensors flickered feebly. The image was too fuzzy to make anything out... Yawning widely, the lack of sleep from the past week finally starting to catch up to her, Aunna huffed as she finally unfurled the other set of 'feathers' while she waited for Vex's reply. Shuddering slightly, she ignored the various pains and fatigue she was feeling, not to mention the gnawing hunger from not having eaten anything since noon yesterday. Vaguely, she noticed the droids optical sensors dilate and constrict slightly as it tried to focus on her. Now, all she needed was something to power the little thing up again...but with a decided lack of sunlight, it might not be easy.
Coming up with an idea, she rummaged around in the compartments near her once more, her tawny hair falling into her face as she searched one just below the seat. Puffing out a bit of air to get the long strands away from her eyes, she hissed slightly as her fingers came into contact with a sharp piece of metal. Really...today was NOT her day. Then again, perhaps it was? She wasn't dead right? Both she and Vex had gotten away no worse for the wear considering the odds. Perhaps it was her day after all? The distant sound of wailing sirens made her jerk her head up and tense her muscles, ready to spring into action...they faded away again and she let out a weary sigh.
Pulling her hair around to one side with her injured arm, her right shoulder, without thinking, Aunna hissed again and glared at the injury as if it would help stop it from hurting. Obviously it didn't, but it made her feel more accomplished somehow, and so she turned her attention back to the compartment she was searching. Her hand closed around the familiar feeling object and she grinned. Pulling it out of the compartment, she held up the blaster capacitor and nodded once. Yes, this should do just fine. Aunna had hoped that there would be an extra one laying around...guards were typically good about leaving things about just in case something happened, this much she had noticed. Pulling the top most wires out of their casing, she hoped the thing wasn't a dead pack.
She carefully placed the wires to the feathers, hoping that the droid was able to absorb more types of energy than just solar. Aunna got the distinct feeling that 'sunlight' wasn't going to be in her vocabulary for the next few days at least, and she very much wanted to get this helpful little droid fixed.

Sean stepped through the massacre of the prison grounds. Many lay dead or severely wounded about him. Few questioned his presence as he was still dressed in his formal military attire. He gazed in horror at the multitude of twitching bodies scattered about, twisting in some unseen agony the Jedi must have instilled in them. It sickened him, but there was nothing to be done about it. He reached the area where he had seen the detonation. There was a large, circular scorch mark on the ground surrounded by the bodies of several soldiers and hounds also twitching fretfully. Whatever the Jedi had done, it had had horrific results on their minds. Sean kneeled by the scorched circle with a puzzled expression. This was certainly an all systems discharge but neither Ayer, nor any remains were anywhere to be seen. I hope your safe my friend....wherever you are..... ENERGY SOURCE ACQUIRED SYSTEM REBOOTING RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS.....

Ayer rose unsteadily and cocked his head curiously at Aunna before gazing about the room. Thank goodness you're still alive Aunna Borgonia. I am AER-03, Republic Reconnaissance. Thank you for reactivating me, how may I be of assistance?

Aunna had set the little droid on the small ledge in front of her that wasn't used for navigation or keeping the prisoners in line. After doing so, she had curled up as best she could and closed her eyes, her mind struggling to stay alert despite her body's warnings that she desperately needed the sleep. If something happened she would have to be able to be alert. She was, however, losing the battle, her eyes fluttering as she twitched slightly every once in a while while her tense muscles started to relax. Already her mind was floating back to her past, to the familiar and horrifying dreams she had from her younger military days. That was when the voice sounded near by.
Blue eyes flying open, she looked about for the source of the unfamiliar vocalization. When her eyes finally alighted on the recon droid, she realized it had been the thing speaking. Smiling tiredly, she found her mind slowly processing what it had said. AER-03...and it knew her obviously. She giggled a little then and grinned at it despite the day.
Hello there. Aer-03?...don't you have a name? Most recons I've met are given something other than their factory name. Well, I'm glad I could at least get you back up and running a bit.
She replied and folded her arms across her chest, wincing at the motion. Drat! How could she be forgetting about that bloody blaster injury? Really?! Huffing, she shot it another glare and returned her eyes back to the little recon droid.
You were very helpful today...thank you very much. I wish I could thank your partner also, but....wait...
She rolled her eyes, frustrated with herself for forgetting all about the fact that the little thing most likely needed more repairs.
I'm sorry, you asked if you could be of assistance. I should be the one asking you that...I'm sure you need more repairs than just the energy. Can you tell me what might need to be fixed?
Aunna, though still very tired, really wanted to help the little avian-shaped droid. Don't push yourself Aun...she warned herself mentally, but pushed the thought away. Really, sleep could wait until later.

Sean wandered about the compound treating the wounded and answering questions. Many wanted to know exactly what had happened. He would tell them it was a minor prison break and say no more. His mission was complete, but something still unnerved him. Where was Ayer?
Sean removed his comlink and activated it. Ayer you read me? Static ansered him. If he was alright, his transmitter wasn't working...
_________________________________________________________________________
Ayer bowed slightly in Aunna's direction. Many call me Ayer. Again, I thank you for what you have done however you are correct to assume that not all my systems are fully operational. Ayer's wings extended and a weak whine came from within the droid. The air just below the wings shimmered slightly and the droid lifted unsteadily a few centimeters from the table. Hardly a second later, the servos sputtered and the droid crashed back down.
The droid climbed back to his feet and shook himself off. It would seem that a few circuits were fried in the discharge. It would be a simple matter of replacing them. Spare circuits of my type are readily salvageable, another design concept to allow me to be easily maintained. If you can get a hold of them, I can walk you through where and how to replace them.
The droid laid out flat and extended its wing and tail fully. A multitude of panels and coverings slid open until the droid was all but a mass of naked circuitry. While he was doing this, something occurred to Ayer. The droid turned its head and gazed inquisitively at Vex.
Ah, Vex Praetor. I imagine you recognize me. Nar Shadaa, my counterpart shot you. He wishes me to inform you that he greatly regrets his actions. He feels that it was his fault Aunna was arrested and you were dragged into this mess. I ask that you don't hold him with his deeds. He is a good man and fired only because he was ordered to. Ayer bowed to Vex as well and braced himself should the Jedi be in a decidedly unforgiving mood.

Vex had tended to her wound, coming back with the medical kit. For all the blood that had come out of her, the wound itself was fairly minor. She didn't need stitches...he was handy enough disinfecting the wound and then dressing it with the kolto press that was inside the kit. Wrapping her arm up to keep it in place, he was certain that she'd make a quick and complete recovery.
After that, he'd been silent thus far on the trip. Now that she was safe, the Dark Jedi had all but sequestered himself in the back, eschewing much contact between himself and her. The woman complicated things. He didn't know why. Logically he understood that, as it stood, she was no longer of anything more than trifling value With her rank stripped and her now considered a fugitive from justice, there was no possibility that he'd be able to use her to further his own ends. As an asset, he should have dropped her, let the Republic clean up that loose end, and move on to the next.
Yet here he was. He'd gone to considerable trouble and quite a level of masquerading in order to get here....with her safe...and now he didn't know why. It didn't make sense to him why he'd done it now. He wasn't working off his logical plans...and he didn't understand what the illogical reasons were. He was distractedby this troubling musing as he heard snippets of conversation coming from the cockpit. Rising up like a brooding, dark cloud, he moved towards the front, where he saw that she had the recon droid up and powered, at least to an extent.
He didn't say anything, instead simply drifting over to where the secondary seat was, settling himself into it smoothly while he watched the verbal play between woman and droid. He ignored her question. Given the robotic creature's response, there really wasn't much point in answering himself. The truth of the matter was obvious enough. He did, however, incline his head slightly in her direction.
When the droid addressed him, however, those black eyes narrowed and at last, Vex spoke. "Your counterpart has hopefully learned that good men can do irreparable things when they simply follow orders and do not take the time to think for themselves. Blind devotion kills with little discrimination. His assistance in Lady Borgonia's successful freedom, along with your own, is the only reason I will refrain from searching out your compatriot in order to return the favor."

Vaguely Aunna allowed Vex to patch up her injured arm, only wincing slightly once as he bandaged it because it was still sore. After that he'd vanished into the back again. She allowed it seeing as she wasn't quite comfortable around him either. Really, she didn't understand him...not well enough for her taste anyway...and so she was wary. That wasn't the only reason, however. No, she was wary of her own reactions to him, the involuntary feelings she got around him, the thoughts she had, the reason she knew she had these thoughts. It disturbed her to think that she loved someone like him...a man who had such an easy time killing, yet seemed to not want her dead...despite her obvious lack of usefulness to him now. It just didn't make sense!
Even as the little droid spoke, she only half listened. Noticing Vex's return, she looked away and down to the side seemingly in thought as he spoke to the droid. So they did know each other from Nar Shaddaa. At his words, however, she felt herself bristle slightly and her blue eyes turned icy as she looked up at him.
Orders are orders....he thought he was doing the right thing at the time, I'm sure.
She stated icily.
...unfortunately I was much the same way....was I really so stupid?
She wondered, heaving a sigh and almost starting to pull her knees up to her chin. Aunna stopped herself before she got far, realizing she was wearing a dress. Something she wasn't accustomed to. Instead she curled them under herself and gazed out the front view port into the gloom around them.

Through the rasp of that rebreather, she would easily be able to hear him snort derisively at the comment she made. "The sophisticated jumble of scrap that you are currently toying with met me in the alleys. If I'd wanted his sniper dead, he would have, long before the bird would have had a chance to warn him. I made it clear that I was not after them...warned them that you were in danger and had little time. My reward for such clemency was a hole through my ribs that barely missed what remains of my internal organs. I have little desire to grant clemency."
He pulled off that rebreather for a moment, letting it rest against his chest as he regarded the two of them, slowly seeming to appraise both. Finally, he shook his head. "I will never understand the mentality of your Republic military.

Chewing on her lip slightly, she listened to what he had to say and sighed, knowing he was right. Aunna hadn't meant to sound so cold toward him either, and that only served to make her feel worse. The woman squinted slightly for a moment as her eyes blurred out on her. Ugh...she couldn't afford to sleep, but she couldn't afford not to. Typically she wouldn't be adverse to the idea of getting some rest but...the past month and a half had found her wrestling with increasingly disturbing dreams that offered her little rest anyway. Taking a breath to steady herself, she felt the odd flutter of her heart that meant she needed to get rest soon or else.
Turning her eyes back to Vex, she tilted her head as he once again removed his rebreather. She'd never seen him do it so much, and she wondered why. Once again she noticed how lion-like he was, it was a handsome quality for him...it did worry her though, him going without the mask so much. Wouldn't it be detrimental to his health? The concern showed in her face as her eyes darkened slightly and her eyebrows knit together a bit. An all to familiar tightness in her heart and gut made her resume biting the inside of her lip, her eyes falling to the floor once more. God, she needed to snap out of this...it wasn't going to help anything.
Your right Vex...you're right. Ayer, I'll try to get the parts needed, but I obviously can't right now. I'm afraid you'll have to wait until tomorrow when we can maybe see about fixing your com system first so you can contact him and let him know you're alright.
She sighed again and stood up, smoothing down the black dress that reached to her shins.
I...should try to get some sleep. I doubt it will work, but....I should at least try.
Aunna stated, and walked toward the back of the vehicle. The seats in the back for the prisoners were all separated by arm rests and metal, so it didn't make for something easy to lay on. This being the case, Aunna chose to try and curl up on the floor, her hair spreading out behind her. She would need to cut it soon...maybe she could do that later if she got some sleep. Using her arm for a pillow, she closed her eyes and tried to sleep. Unfortunately it wasn't so easy with the day's happenings replaying in a loop in her mind.

"Of course." She was ceding the field to him in this battle of wits and beliefs. Clearly she was far more distraught and drained from this all than had been previously considered. This wasn't exactly the Aunna Borgonia he knew. Of course, the situation she was in was hardly normal compared to most of their interactions together.
The dark eyes watched her slip away to find a place to rest. He'd wait a moment, feeling the ebbs of the Force as they flowed from her. Finally, he'd stand as well, those boots as silent as a ghost's as he moved down the short hall to find her. She was there, laid out on the cold metal of the ground. Sighing, he shook his head. Kneeling next to her, he didn't make so much as a rustle of cloth as his palm went to rest on her forehead. Immediately, he pushed his mind into her own, but no like before. He centered on the points of relaxation, of pleasant thoughts and memories while he tweaked her desire for sleep and restful dreams.
It would keep her unconscious for a while, ensuring that the sleep would be restful and free of the chaotic mindselt of the conscious. Once he was assured that she would sleep soundly, he drew off those robes, wrapping her up in them to keep her warm. That tunic came next, off ove that cybernetic middle...carefully rolled to work as a pillow. Despite the earlier roughness, his touch was light and cautious now as he lifted her head and tucked it underneat.
He moved back to search, finding a small changing area...probably for soldiers escoring someone high priority. All it had was a light gray shirt, but it worked well enough and covered up the reality of his wounds. He moved back to the bridge then, looking at the bird. he asked a simple question:
"Why?"

Sean peered around the corner at the landing pad. This was very bad. It had taken only an hour to guess upon the coincidence of the prisoner's disappearance and that of the transport's. Now a small gunboat outfitted with state-of-the-art sensory equipment was resting on the pad preparing for takeoff. From his short chat with the guard, he was told the craft could locate a needle in star system, and by the looks of the multiple sensor dishes and antennae this may not have been much of an exaggeration. If this ship got off the ground, there was literally nowhere to hide for Aunna and the Jedi. Sean knew just enough about space craft to break one, but not enough to do it discretely. Perhaps if he mislead them... Sean approached a squat man with a commander's uniform. Fine ship you have here, if it can't find those criminals, nothing can. Am I right? The commander looked at his condescendingly before speaking in a tone thick with contempt. "The Spyglass is top of its class. Those dissidents don't stand a chance, especially since we now have the all clear to fire on sight." Truly incredible. You know I've been hunting that Dark Jedi for months now, I would sure love to take a look at the ship that will finally put an end to him. If I may The commander peered more closely at Sean, taking in his facial features and outfit. Sudden;y his eyes widened. "You're Sean Mu'haro! Member of the H.A.L.O.A.T.W. squad and hero of the Republic for ensuring the capture of these fugitives in the first place! Please, be my guest. I would be honored to allow you too look at The Spyglass." Thank you. Sean smiled to himself as he stepped around the wing of the ship. Luckily, he still had his equipment on his bandoleer including a small amount of plastic explosive. It would take only a moment to plant the charge and set the detonater, but the commander still had his eager gaze upon him. Sean thought quickly, the engines had begun their warm-up sequence. Hmmm, very impressive indeed. Although, it may just be me, but appears that one of the wires on that dish is loose. "What's that?" The commander peered into the dish Sean had indicated and fiddled around inside. Sean talk the opportunity to withdraw an infinitesimal glob of C4 and roll it into a ball. Using only one hand he pressed the detonator into the substance and set the timer for 10 minutes. "I....don't see anything loose in here Mu'haro sir." You sure? Let me take a look. Sean peered into the dish alongside the man and felt around with one hand while he pressed the sticky glob into a little nook on the hull with his other hand. The charge would cause minimal damage, though it could easily damage the multitude of sensory equipment nearby. Plus it was small enough not to be noticed easily. Hmm, my mistake. Well sorry to keep you waiting. I'll be off now. She truly is a fine vessel, well fit to the task of locating the escapees. Sean saluted the man who did so in return and walked as casually as he could back around a building. He could only hope he had stalled them enough to allow Aunna and the Jedi time to escape or go into hiding...very good hiding.... _______________________________________________________________________ The droid hung his head at Vex's words and spoke no further. The droid stood back up as the panels snapped back into place. He turned to Aunna and nodded in consent to her innability to repair him at the moment. Ayer remained silent as the the two humans continued to interact. It was strange, the Jedi, at first glance, seemed void of compassion and yet... Ayer would never understand human behavior. As they left the room, Aunna first soon followed by Vex who had finished patching up her wounded arm, the droid settled back down and opened up the diagnostic screen once more. The same wording as before came up. Then a thought occurred to Ayer. ACCESSING REPUBLIC DATABANK ARCHIVES TOPIC SEARCH INITIATED: VEX PRAETOR Vex Praetor: DARK JEDI, ENEMY TO THE REPUBLIC- CLASS I, ALL OTHER INFORMATION CLASSIFIED SECURITY LEVEL RED Ayer inclined his head curiously. Classified? To a military droid? INPUT CLEARANCE CODE
DECODING SEQUENCE INITIATED, PROCESSING...
01001010D01010 10110100E10101 01011001L01010 01010101I10100 10100- A great shock erupted through the droid sending it sprawling against the wall. Ayer stood up woozily as smoke issued from the cracks in his body. Ow... ACCESS DENIED What did the Republic know about this man that they were so desperate to keep safe? To go so far as to install inhibitors in their droids to prevent them from- Ayer's thoughts were interrupted as Vex reentered the room. The Jedi set his dark piercing gaze on the droid and asked the most simple question the droid had ever been asked. "Why?" Ayer gazed at the man thoughtfully for a moment then chuckled. Why...such a broad question. It could pertain to anything. Why are we here? Why was I made? Why did my counterpart shoot you? Why is the sky blue in most hospitable oxygen rich atmospheres? All these, valid answers to your question. However, I'm going to assume you wish to know why we risked ourselves to save a former enemy. The answer is simple, and yet so complex to ones such as you and myself. When my partner shot you, he caused the very woman he was sent to rescue to reveal herself as a "traitor". Sean is no mindless soldier. Many of them aren't. Through all the rigorous training and mental ideals of blank merciless efficiency, many still retain there morals. It is these feelings that compel such actions such as our decision to assist in Aunna's release as well as my own to sacrifice myself to stop the guards. I may not be a living being, but when I was issued to my company, Private first class Sean Mu'haro modified my programming. He gave me a will and morals of my own. The ability to question orders in the face of right and wrong. Now I am more than just his reconnaissance drone, I am his comrade, his adviser....and his friend. Now I extend this compassion to you two. Though it is against my original purpose to assist enemies of the Republic, I feel it is what's truly right.

Aunna had lain there for several minutes, one finger idly twisting a lock of her hair as she slowly drifted into an uneasy and light sleep. Her sandy brown tresses were spread behind her, glistening in the dim light like an angel's as he came out of the darkness silently. By this time she had already flitted into an uneasy sleep, her mind playing out scenarios that could have happened, but luckily hadn't. She didn't hear him come, despite her light sleep, nor did she fully wake at his touch. Aunna's eyes simply fluttered slightly as if she were trying to rouse herself due to his presence. Part of her felt his mind enter hers, and that part gently brushed against his consciousness before following his unspoken urges for her to have a peaceful sleep. Even as she drifted further into sleep under his coaxing, her subconscious vaguely noticed new warmth surround her as he wrapped her carefully in his robes. Curling in on herself a bit more, she would hardly notice the fact that her head was gently being lifted and settled once more on something softer than her own arm. Inhaling deeply at the new comfort, a ghost of a smile appeared on Aunna's sleeping face as somewhere in her mind she recognized the familiar scent of the man who had donned the clothes only moments before. It was with this small sense of security, however brief, that the former major, and now outlaw, fell into a deep sleep. ((Well, Aun's out for the rest of this thread...most likely I'll start a new thread tonight/tomorrow. You two can finish up on this one at your leisure since I'm sure you have plenty to talk about ^_^...
