Bio: Ral is seen by many to be nothing more than a bitter caustic-mouthed tyrant, with the single redeeming talent of being able to throw ships under his command against ridiculous odds and then bring them back out again. And although he himself would publicly argue against this description, privately he knows it’s completely true. Despite this he always does what is in the interest of the Republic and is fiercely loyal to those deserving of it.
Born and raised on the Bothan homeworld, to two semi-successful politicians, Ral was always disgusted with Bothan politics, and the scheming underhanded ways. Because of his beliefs and his unnatural height for a Bothan he was the subject to much ridicule growing up. Although, his parents tried to send him to all the best schools in hopes of his becoming an excellent politician one day, the corruption that ran rampant disgusted Ral. After graduating from primary school he instead choose to join the Bothan Martial Academy. There he specialized in military strategy and tactical planning. He had a knack for being able to command his fleets during war games and bring them out alive, sometimes using unorthodox strategies that often gave him surprising successes. His teachers and peers described him as being good enough to attain victory, but brilliant enough to know when to retreat.
His skills brought him to the attention of the Republic. In the desperation caused by the sudden Mandalorian attacks, he received an appointment as a Captain commanding a GN-2 Corellian Corvette, The Coursca's Gem. He served with distinction during the Last Mandalorian Crusades managing to defeat tactically superior foes winning only by raw skill and sheer determination. It was during this time he met War Minster Filii Stukov, although he was not a War Minister at that time. It was a brief meeting, but Ral was nonetheless extremely impressed by the man's intiative and skill. The man became a role model for him, despite being 2 years Ral's junior.
Following the Crusades, Ral’s efforts were noted and he was promoted to the rank of Commander, and 10 years later to the rank of Vice Admiral, then a Full Admiral and was given command of a small independent task force designed for “fire brigade” tasks which he commands from his flagship Republic’s Guard.
