Name:Garreg Darr
Race: Gungan
Age: 11
Height: 4'11”
Weight: 97 lbs
Appearance: An Otolla Gungan, Garreg is, by all regards, just a child. He's still growing. His eye-stalks droop slightly from the muscles not being quite able to hold them up. His ears are almost fully grown, while the rest of him is not, so his ears droop almost down past his hips. His sole possession, beyond the rags he was wearing when he was found, is a scratchy old blanket, which he refuses to let go of.
Birth place: Speleshoonga, Naboo
Faction: Jedi
Rank: Youngling/Padawan
Bio:
The Jedi only recently were able to get Garreg's history out of him. He had been found six years ago aboard a freighter that a Jedi had taken passage on, and they found that he had followed the Jedi all about Ahto City on Manaan. Later, when he left, the crew of the freighter found the boy, having stowed away after following the Jedi.
The Jedi was impressed with the boy's ability to track the Jedi without being discovered, and recommended him to the Council for testing. Garreg spoke bits of Basic, with a minimal Gungan accent, and could understand Selkath. Garreg was uncooperative at first, and would not tell anyone his history. The Council did not sense a clouded future for him, nor did they detect much fear, but rather an immense curiosity. Later on, they didn't think he would make Jedi, but they did believe that he would be a valuable member of the Service Corp. Even so, he was placed with the other Younglings when he came to the Temple.
Very recently, it was leaked to Garreg that the Council was not considering a Master for him, and so he became rather desperate to convince the Council otherwise. He asked and begged various Jedi to tell him something he could do to change their minds, until someone told him to give the Council a reason to have faith in Garreg to become a Jedi. The Gungan boy thought for several weeks as to what he could do, and finally decided that telling them his origins would be a very good place to start.
Garreg waited and asked for days with various Council members to have them hear his story, asking them to speak with him every chance he got. He was told to be patient and tolerant, that the Masters were very busy. Eventually, his pressuring and patience paid off, and one Council member gave him an audience. He nearly lost his nerve, but he began from his birth.
Garreg had been born along the coast on Naboo, the son of a poor sea fisherman, and the younger brother of three boys and two girls. His mother was killed when he was a year old by a very large fish. He doesn't remember her very much, but he knows that his old scratchy blanket was knitted by her, and he has vague recollections of emotions associated with her. BEcause she was taken away, he never quite let go the way he did with the rest of his family. His older brother became a full-time fisherman, while his oldest sister took care of the younger ones. His second-oldest brother felt that he couldn't be of much help with his family, and desired to join in the army of a nearby village. Since their family owed nothing to them or their other neighbors (who were also the rivals of the village the brother wanted to join), his father specifically forbid it.
The second eldest brother, however, still felt that his absence would do more good than his presence. When Garreg was four, his brother packed up his beast-of-burden and took off, intending to run away to the human settlement and find wealth offworld, hoping to earn enough to support his family. He was unaware that the ever-curious Garreg was with him, having snuck into one of the bags. It wasn't until they were on board a ship that the brother found that Garreg has snuck with him, half starved and half suffocated from being in the bag for several days.
With no money or means to go back, he had no choice but to bring Garreg along, feeding and caring for the boy, going from job to job and planet to planet, never staying in one place too long. They had stayed on Manaan the longest, with plenty of work there in the spaceport. Garreg was still rather innocent and immensely curious about everything.
The boy had been able to land a job, himself, on Manaan, performing chores for a Selkath's shop. It was during one of these errands that the curious (and six year old) Garreg encountered the Jedi, and he abandoned his work to follow the Jedi about, eventually stowing away on the ship. The rest was history.
Garreg didn't speak a word about his family or his brother. He figures that since his brother didn't seem to miss their family, Garreg didn't have much of a reason to, either, and felt the same way about his brother after leaving Manaan. Garreg just wanted to study, learn, and discover, sometimes sticking his nose in places the Jedi didn't particularly to have Younglings in.
Garreg is known for being a little high-strung, but very determined with everything he does. He wants to see everything to completion and perfection. He has been known to work on a project for weeks, months, and even years in a few cases. He doesn't seem to allow anything get in his way. Recently, this has included his own body, which has hit a major growth spurt. Garreg doesn't interact much with the other Younglings, preferring to do his own thing, but when he does work together with other, he makes sure that everyone is doing something and is doing their tasks right. The other Younglings would sometimes complain that he was forceful while in being charge, and so they tried making older Younglings instruct him, and the experiences seemed to have give him humility. Mostly.
One thing Garreg is not known for is being humble. While he does not beg for attention or compliments, he does take credit where credit where credit is due-he makes sure that his accomplishments are recognized, though he doesn't do things just to be recognized. Whether it's pride or some strange logic Garreg put together remains to be seen.

RP Sample: A Jedi once told Garreg to ask the 'hard questions' whenever he needed to get something out of people. This was when he was much younger, so he didn't understand what they meant, but now that he was eleven and had a few more years under his belt, Garreg had a better understanding of what they meant. The Gungan boy had also figured out that sometimes he had to get things out of himself, such as honesty or acceptance.
So after one of the caretakers of the Younglings let it slip that Garreg was not being considered for a Master a few months ago, Garreg had to ask himself some hard questions. What was he doing? What could he do? What did he want? These were just some of the questions had had been forced to ask himself. When he was comfortable and accepted the answers he came up with, he found that he had more courage to deal with the situation at hand. He felt that he was a Militiagung that day-A warrior. An adult.
But he was still a boy. Though he had handled this situation tactfully, he felt petrified, standing before this Jedi Master, opening his mouth and only a short burst of sound came out. When Garreg had arrived, the Jedi Master told Garreg to take his time, that he had reserved a few hours for Garreg. Even so, he did not wish to waste this time. If only he could bring himself...
“Sit down, Garreg,” the Jedi Master instructed, “Calm yourself. Let's meditate before you begin. It's obvious that the past troubles you.”
Garreg did as he was instructed, sitting on the mat next to the Jedi, and breathed, just as he'd been taught to do. Other Younglings bragged about how good they were at meditation, but Garreg didn't think this was something that you were good at or not. You either did it or you didn't. There wasn't much in-between. Garreg cleared his mind and his emotions, subduing his fears and his worries, and focused on the task. After an hour or so, Garreg felt much calmer and actually ready to begin. The Jedi Master seemed to have sensed Garreg's ease, and turned to the Gungan boy. He didn't see the Jedi Master move as much as feel and hear.
“So, Garreg, why do you want to open up about your past so suddenly? You've kept a locked beak about it for five years now,” the Master asked him. Though the Jedi's voice was soft, the question was hard.
“I want the Council and the Masters to trust me,” Garreg replied frankly.
“And why do you want them to trust you?”
“Why wouldn't I? Whether I go into the Service Corp or become a Jedi, it's good for the Council to trust me, isn't it?”
“This is true and wise, but I don't think that's the sole reason, and is simply a cover for your true desires.”
Garreg sighed and nodded. He couldn't really hide the fact he wanted to be a Jedi. But he didn't want to sound like a child in admitting it.
“I wish to serve the Order,” Garreg said, which was a roundabout way of saying, 'I wanna be a Jedi' without being overeager about it, “Whether I join the Service Corp or become a Padawan, I think I'll be...Satisfied.”
“But your preference is apparent,” the Master observed, and Garreg nodded, thankful that the Master spoke for him in that instance. This was awkward as it was.
“I'm glad you're finally willing to open up, Garreg, and I'm honored that you came to me.”
“Well I-” Garreg began to say that he hadn't came to this specific Master, but had come to each of them, trying to gain an audience. When the Master raised an eyebrow, accompanied by a smirk, Garreg realized that the Master was just trying to make him feel good, and that the Jedi already knew. Jedi Masters knew everything.
“Before you begin, let's meditate again. And when you're ready, start from the beginning, all right?”
Garreg said nothing, only resumed his meditation pose. This time, he was marginally successful at clearing his emotions, but he couldn't help be feel joyful about this. As adult as he was handling this, he was still eleven years old...
