Appearance: A tall, slim, well built man; strong and regal in standing, with an introspective glint in his eyes. He wears the officers uniform of the Republican Navy, with his ceremonial lightsaber, an heirloom of his family, at his belt. He is dark of complexion; his eyes and hair dark brown, with tanned skin.
The saber is long and elegant, the weapon of a former Jedi; the brother of one of Yuar's ancestral fathers. After his death on Onderon, the blade passed into the keeping of the Jedi's brother, and has been handed down to each firstborn son along his line. It is a symbol of freedom, honor, and rugged individuality. Each holder of the blade has read countless instructional manuals on the forms practiced by it's creator; II and III, although Yuar remains raw and untested in it's use.
The hilt is slim, with a metallic glint and extravagant golden inlays. The hilt seems more reminiscent of a vibrosword than a lightsaber, bearing a large hand-guard and a less-cylindrical grip. The blade is bronze in color, and the saber is specially crafted to resist the corrosive climates of Onderon and and it's moon; Dxun.
Biography: Born on Onderon, Yuar grew up in an old, colonist-descended family; steeped in tradition, and strongly adherent to the ideals of equality and individualism that can only be forged in the rugged climates and terrains of Onderon and Dxun. They also taught him a willingness to fight for those ideals bred; by the enmity between the Republic-held world and it's Mandalorian moon.
Growing up, Yuar led a good, almost privileged life, receiving the best of educations, and the stern yet loving upbringing of his upstanding father; learning the ways of honor, duty, chivalry, loyalty, rugged idealism and a burning love of the Republic. An avid outdoorsman, he developed a love of all living things in his various excursions into the rough habitats of Onderon.
Still, life could be hard. His father owned an industrial supergiant, dominating industrial production and construction on Onderon and throughout the sector. Although one of the richest men in the sector, Yuar's father was not of the Onderonian nobility; causing many political problems for the family who was part of an upper class where they were officially not allowed. Although nobility in all but name, and extremely close to the royal family, Nedra's family has never been given the official title.
He spent his life going through various militaristic private schools, having chosen a destiny as a Naval Officer at a very young age. He received the best of educations, learning in every field. He made sure that he was well-acquainted in everything, from mechanics to philosophy. But most of all he concentrated on Military leadership, tactics, strategy, management, philosophy, etc. He graduated from secondary school at the top of his class.
Early in life he befriended Corlas Kinse, a member of the nobility and son of the owner of the largest shipping conglomerate in the Onderonian Sector. The two soon became inseperable; the best of friends.
In his late teens he became romantically interested with Princess Sali of Onderon, the only child of the Queen and King, in her early teens at the time. It was forbidden, especially considering Yuar's common status. But one could not halt love. They had been playmates since childhood, Yuar never truly noticing her until an explosion of beauty at the onset of puberty. He new what he felt was forbidden, wrong, but he could not help himself. One night, while strolling in the palace garden, he chanced a kiss. To his surprise, the princess returned it, and their relationship began. It continued, in secret, throughout Yuar's time on Onderon.
Upon reaching 18, he joined the prestigious Naval Academy of Onderon. Again, he studied everything he could, as fast as he could, graduating at the age of 25 with various degrees and honors, and ready to join the Navy of the Republic.
For five years he served the Republic and it's people with strength and honor, involved in many notable operations against pirates, mercenaries, smugglers, raiders, bandits, hostile alien races, and various other enemies of the Republic. Soon he began having conflicts with High Command, which viewed him as an eccentric, insubordinate, arrogant commander. Nedra, in turn, viewed High Command as a group of corrupt, indecisive, and unaccepting corporate bureaucrats.
Eventually, he achieved the rank of Captain, and with a new ship under his command, the Hammerhead-class Warship Liberty, he was sent to the rim, ready to protect the Citizens of the Republic; and to dispense their justice.
He soon became known as the "Frontier Captain." If there was a problem that required force, Nedra and the Liberty were sent in. By the outbreak of the Sith Invasion, Nedra and his men were the only battle-hardened soldiers in the Republic.
Eventually his father began to show signs of illness, and ownership of one-third of the company was given to Yuar, in order to take some of the weight off of the ill founder of the company. Although he could do little while still in the military, Nedra accepted the transfer.
Just before the outbreak of the war, Nedra was assigned to a tour of the Republic border, assessing the strength and amount of Sith influence on each world. His first stop was Dantooine. It was there that his mission would end.
The Sith invaded Datooine, and a massive battle ensued. Under the leadership of Nedra and Master Baumm, the Republic and militia forces held strong. The battle ended in a truce, with all Republic and Dantooine forces being evacuated off-world, while Dantooine was given to the Sith. Nedra vowed to return one day.
In the aftermath of the battle, the Republic was touted as a horrible aggressor, much to the anger of Nedra. He, though, was called one of the deterants to large-scale conflict, promoted to the rank of Commodore, and given a small fleet. Baumm was used as a scape-goat, being blamed for inciting violence and relegated to Jedi Space. This infuriated Nedra, though there was little he could do.
Throughout all this, Nedra kept in contact with Corlas and Sali. although apart for so long, and resigned to eventual failure, Yuar's relationship with Sali continues in many ways. Sali became Queen, and has still not accepted a suitor at the age of twenty-seven. Yuar has also not had a lover in his entire time away from Onderon.
He is currently assigned to Mon Calamari.
Sample Post:
Yuar stood at the helm, hands clasped behind his back, peering through the transparisteel at the sight unfolding upon the backdrop of twinkling stars.
A freighter convoy, a dozen light freighters in all, was making the Ison Corridor run. They'd almost made it, too.
Swarming all about them were at least a score of unmarked vessels, pouring fire mercilessly into the defenseless freighters. Pirates.
Yuar felt a sour taste in his mouth at the very thought of the word. Scum, in every way. They were greedy, evil parasites, feeding upon the weak and the defenseless.
The citizens of the Republic.
Without turning, he began shouting orders. "Increase speed, full ahead. Prime the forward facing guns, slam full into the largest group of them, over there to starboard. Blast them to nothing. Deploy all starfighters in our wake, have them mop up the scattered remains."
He watched carefully as his orders were implemented. A good half of the force, about ten ships, was grouped on the starboard side of the convoy, laying down wide fire on the freighters, and creating a strong point in their attack. Farthest to starboard was a larger ship, which seemed to be the focal point of the cluster. That would be the Pirate Cheiftan. They were full of talk, and bloated with hot air, but when it came to the dirty work, their cautious cowardice always displayed itself. The coward had retreated behind the others as soon as the Hammerhead had appeared in the area.
Yuar smirked. As if that would save him.
He felt the Hammerhead accelerate, coming full tilt at the group of pirates. He had to give it to the Chieftan, he had some kind of foolish bravado in him. Instead of their usual cut and run, the pirates had decided to make a stand. Perhaps they'd assumed the ships' small size meant it could be defeated.
They would pay for that assumption.
The forward cannons erupted in a salvo, catching the nearest pirate ship full in the flank, the Turbolasers quickly ripping through it's shields and armor plating. The cannons continued firing, without stop, tearing into the pirate formation as the Hammerhead flew right at them. In an instant, they were right on them, and the Hammerhead smashed through, the port, starboard, ventral, and dorsal weapons erupting as they passed into the little group. Then, almost as quickly as they had entered, they were out of the storm, the aft cannons firing back on the pirates as they Hammerhead soared away.
The plan worked perfectly. The pirates didn't notice the Hammerhead's full complement of starfighters until it was too late. Ordering the Liberty back, he watched with grim satisfaction as the last of the group, the Pirate Chieftans' ship, burn into nothing. As he watched, the remaining half of the pirates seemed to get the message, and they quickly broke and run.
Moving quickly, he ordered support shuttles with engineers and medics to the convoy, and turned the Hammerhead and its Starfighters to the pursuit.
They wouldn't get away, not this time.
"This is Yuar talking."
This is Yuar thinking.
NPC's: Captain Derna, Yuar's second-in-command. He is a gruff, by-the-book commander, the anti-thesis of Yuar's think-outside-the-box style. He speaks in red.
