Heya everyone, to keep things simple, I see movies. A lot of movies. I mean almost every week. I love them, everything about them, the acting, scenery, characters, story, you name it, I love it. And frankly, the movies I do see, I think I can tell which ones are worth the watching. This thread here is gonna be my Movie Critic thread, I alone will post here, listing the pros and cons about the movies I see. Please, refrain from posting in here, it's for me to tell my opinions on my favorite art form, and if you feel you must comment, PM me, please don't muck my thread up. I will never give out any plot points, or spoilers, or anything of that sort, so do not fret if that's your concern on this thread. Also, if you do wish to know if there's something in said movie, again, just PM me, and I will answer. And yes, I'm aware I'm double, triple, heh, infinite posting, but I already discussed this with a couple staff, and they said it's OK. Also, I usually use www.imdb.com for any resources I might need, rating, character names, etc. This is by far the best movie review site there is, use it if you don't believe my review. So, I'll start this with 4 reviews from the last four movies I've seen:

Title: District 9 Rated: R for bloody violence and pervasive language. Grade: A Pros: This movie really caught me off guard, I went in with even expectations, not really expecting anything special. But boy was I wrong. This film blew me out of the water, no other way to describe it. It's done in a semi-documentary style, but mixed in with cinematic elements. Various reviews and "biography" moments about the main character, Wikus, accompanied by scenes of our people interacting with the aliens, aka Prawns, and I must say, it felt eerily real. But tied in with this fascinating style, is some breath taking action and story progression. You care for each and every main character, but the beauty of it is, there's only two main characters. If you are a science fiction fan, or just want a pleasant surprise of a movie, go see this. Thus far it's the best movie of the summer in my opinion. Cons: It can be very disturbing sometimes, and I promise you will see things that not only boggle your mind, but mess it up. However, the disturbing parts are what progress the story, and really, it was never bad enough to make me even think for a second about leaving. One thing is for certain, obey the rating, kids really shouldn't see this until in their mid to upper teens. Simple Overview: Easily the best movie of the year so far, a very unique Scifi epic worthy of seeing more than once. If you don't go see this in theaters, you'll regret it.

Title: Inglorious Basterds Rated: Rated R for strong graphic violence, language and brief sexuality. Grade: B Pros: Well, it's a movie about a group of guerrilla Nazi killing Jews in France. I must say, as a person raised Jewish, it was mighty satisfying seeing some Nazi's get killed brutally. The story was easy enough to follow, and it progressed nicely. Over two hours flew before I even knew it. And the end delivers massively and, well, gloriously. Cons: Most of the "Basterds" were hard to distinguish, making it slightly confusing sometimes. Some of the parts of the movie seemed... almost as if Tarantino was trying to hard. I love him as a director and a writer, but this was no Pulp Fiction. Worth the watch, but I'd recommend waiting till it's at Blockbuster *nod* Simple Overview: A surprisingly not very gory Tarantino flick. Lot's of dead Nazi's and Jews with baseball bats.

Title: 9 Rated: PG-13 for violence and scary images Grade: B- Pros: Well, it's a post apocalyptic movie, and I love those. It's paced extremely well, explained brilliantly, and the characters are very unique. I found myself loving the "Twins" the most, but I'll leave it at that. The action is surprisingly good, who woulda thought some Sackboys could kick so much butt? The "Beast" is a great villain, something truly to be feared. All in all, it's a very, very unique movie, with the life force of the sackpeople explained brilliantly, something I really appreciated. I'd recommend this for people wanting to see/ try something different. Cons: Well, for the most part, the "machines" seemed rather generic, except for one, and this one is actually why I'm saying this: If you have kids/ yourself are under 13, this thing might scare you. Hell, it scared me a little. Also, the ending was kinda cheesy, and definitely tacky. But it doesn't take out from the total experience. Simple Overview: A fresh look on a post apocalyptic tale.

Title: Pandorum Rated: R R for strong horror violence and language. Grade: A Pros: This movie is incredibly tense, I found myself sitting forward with my eyes literally glued to the screen the entire movie. The setting is eerie, the soundtrack is a perfectly fitting one, and the sheer atmosphere of the movie could be cut with a knife. The action was top notch, the "monsters" were simply terrifying, and the story was by far one of the most unique ones I have seen in ages. The end will not only blow you away, but you'll never see it coming. I HIGHLY recommend this movie, almost as much as District 9. Anyone who can see this movie, should go see it. And trust me, you won't regret it. Cons: I really can't say much was bad about it at all. Obviously, don't take any kids to it, they might get nightmares, hell, I might. *Makes note to check under bed before going to sleep* Simple Overview: A Scifi epic on par with the first Alien movie. A must see. Not to mention rival for best movie I've seen so far this year. See it in theaters, trust me.

Title: Zombieland Rated: R for horror violence/gore and language. Grade: B+ Pros: Well, first of all it's a zombie movie, so it gets that for points. Second, Woody Harrelson is badass, always. Overall good for a couple jumps, plenty of laughs, and a surprise cameo that gave this movie its "+" Cons: Well, it's a zombie movie. As much as I love them, they're aren't exactly Academy Awards quality Low expectations= lots of fun, my advice. Simple Overview: In a world overrunned by the undead and infected, Woody Harrelson takes his gator-skin boots and kicks some zombie ass. Fun date movie, fun out with friends, hell, I'd take my mother to this for the laughs. Depending on how much you love Woody or zombies, it could be just as fun rented on DVD as in theaters I think.

Title: Capitalism: A Love Story Rated: Rated R for some language. Grade: A Pros: Say what you will about Michael Moore, man knows how to hit home. Most of this movie is a retelling of how we got the way we are in America today- and it was pretty fascinating. It showed exactly how much rich people suck, and yeah, where's my money? But I digress- All I gotta say is, if you support the change that's happening, go see this. Cons: If you disagree with Moore, Obama, the "S" word, etc, don't see this, it'll just piss you off. My only complaint is this movie was a tad long, and did drag on a bit sometimes. Simple Overview: Another Michael Moore flick pointing out something that's F'd up in our country. Like, Love, Hate, Detest it, it's here, don't complain.

Title: Where the Wild Things Are Rated: PG for mild thematic elements, some adventure action and brief language. Grade: C Pros: The "Wild Things" were very imaginative, very realistic surprisingly- and the kid, a fellow Max, made me laugh. Cons: Well, it was a little confusing to me to be very honest. Definitely made for kids. Simple Overview: Would be amazing to take your kids to, very very imaginative. But it being intended for kids, I'd think older audiences without kids would be a little confused- seems a lot of things were just thrown in without any point. Go see this if your parents read it to you as a child, otherwise, wait till you got kids.

Title: Law Abiding Citizen Rated: R for strong bloody brutal violence and torture, a scene of rape, and pervasive language. Grade: B Pros: Brilliant plot, great acting, and plenty of crazy kills. Cons: Ended differently than I imagined, but not disappointing. Simple Overview: A man loses everything, and due to our corrupt legal system, justice isn't served. Well this man serves justice nice and hot with a side of asparagus and macaroni.

Title: Paranormal Activity Rated: R for language Grade: A- Pros: A very tense atmosphere, and you never know when something is gonna happen. Very messed up, but that's what makes it good. Cons: The last like 30 seconds. And a couple parts in the middle kinda dragged on. Simple Overview: A couple experiences strange occurrences in their home. The boyfriend tries to record and solve what's going on, and things only escalate. A must see for horror fans.

Title: The Men Who Stare at Goats Rated: Rated R for language, some drug content and brief nudity. Grade: B+ Pros: A star studded cast, great script, and subtle comedy that I just adore. The story is pretty easy to follow, the acting was great, and Clooney's mustache is the envy of all mustache aficionados. Cons: A tad shallow in plot, and some cheap slapstick moments for a laugh, but otherwise not much in the ways of bad things. Simple Overview: A reporter loses everything, and goes on a quest to find himself. Little did he know this quest would involve terrorists, hippies, Jedi, and Lyn Cassady. A must see for Star Wars fans, if only for the subtle hints and jokes that made me laugh more than anything else.

Title: The Fourth Kind Rated: Rated PG-13 for violent/disturbing images, some terror, thematic elements and brief sexuality. Grade: A- Pros: Highly disturbing, and mind boggling. The real footage is what hits home- whether it was made up or not, it made the movie. Cons: Some of the acting was awful, and that's bout it. Simple Overview: A woman's studies into Nome, Alaska's sleep habits leads to a disturbing trail of coincidences. She soon discovers that she herself is brought into the scheme of things. Real footage from the real studies of Nome make this really something special, great for skeptics and believers alike.

Title: Avatar Rated: Rated PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking. Grade: A++ Pros: Unbelievable. I think that's the only word that describes this movie. From the setting, to the acting, to the story, to the imagery, to the characters, to, well everything. I was entranced and completely pulled into this film. Three hours flew by, and I didn't even notice. Cons: Some of the more 'sensual' parts felt a little awkward, but then again, they were done so well, you felt like you were almost intruding- so even then, not a truly bad thing. Simple Overview: A sci-fi epic for the ages. This movie I am certain will not be forgotten. If you like any sort of science fiction, you will adore this movie.

Title: Sherlock Holmes Rated: Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some startling images and a scene of suggestive material. Grade: A Pros: Robert Downey Jr. Jude Law. Those two and their chemistry on screen made the movie in my opinion. All the other actors were brilliant, but these two- the stars- were just great. The story was intriguing, and had me guessing for most of it. And the humor, some excellent humor, not stupid at all. Cons: I really can't think of any. Well, there was one character I felt wasn't needed at all, but it is Hollywood after all... You'll understand if you see. Simple Overview: A Parliament member in the late 1800's is accused of black magic, and of killing several women. Sherlock Holmes puts him behind bars where he is soon executed. After rising from the grave mysteriously, Holmes and Watson need to track him down and stop him before more people die.

Title: Daybreakers Rated: Rated R for strong bloody violence, language and brief nudity. Grade: B Pros: Willem Defoe made the movie for me. Some really interesting takes on the Vampire lore, including a cure I've never even thought about. Equal amounts of humor and scares are overshadowed by the action bit of it. And it was great to see Sam Neil again. Cons: HEINOUS special effects, you could visibly see where the funding went to this movie. And it wasn't in the effects. And some of the sound effects were cringe-worthy. Simple Overview: There's a theory out there that if vampirism was a true disease, that it would completely take over humanity. This movie gives a little insight into what life would be like if that were to happen- along with a sort of reclamation of the vampire-movie genre.
