I was just wondering whether or not anyone else vaguely matched up different Star Wars worlds with real life countries. I do... I have compiled the following list, but would be interested in any alternatives / corrections / extra suggestions. Please note that a lot of my ideas hold little weight other than the simple fact that the SW World was filmed in or using footage of the real life country. - Naboo - Britain [General terrain, as well as the fact that the Lake Country sounds very much like the Lake District. Also the footage of Nabooan woodland in TPM was filmed in England].
- Alderaan - Switzerland [Again, general terrain, as well as the fact that both Switzerland and Alderaan are very peaceful places!]
- Kashyyyk - Thailand [Terrain and the fact that some of the Kashyyyk backgrounds are, in fact, Thailand]
- Coruscant - USA [U.N. HQ in New York is very similar to the Senate Rotunda on Coruscant - in purpose, if not design]
- Yavin IV - Mexico [Terrain and Temples]
- Serrocco - Italy [Even the name sounds Italian! Again, mainly terrain and place names]
- Tatooine - Tunisia [It was where it was filmed!]
- Geonosis - Australia [Terrain etc.]
- Corellia - Canada [Terrain. Also, they both begin with 'C' and end with 'a'...]
As I said (I didn't say, but that's always a great way to begin an apologetic sentence), I have absolutely no idea what most of these countries really look / smell / sound like, so I am probably horribly wrong on most counts. Please feel free to correct me!!!

I kind of do that myself, but more with species than the planets they came from, but I'm sure it goes hand in hand. I always kind of thought of Naboo as Italy, since a good number of scenes were shot there, like the lake country. And Hoth reminds me of Antarctica or Scandinavia (it was filmed in Norway).

Hmmm... I always think of Naboo as Spain, since the Plaza de España was a location they used for it.

In agreement with Mara, I have also often thought of Naboo as Italy (thanks to the great number of scenes filmed there). However, in my mind, Serrocco sounded even more Italian, and besides, as I'm from Britain, and Naboo is my favourite planet, I was a little biased

I would just like to point out that, as many of you may have realised, I don't mean Serrocco... I mean Serenno...
Aha, oh well..
"The name Serenno may be a reference to Sarzano, the historical Italian seat of the Carandini family. The House of Demici is probably named after the famous Medici family of Italy."

And I know they're not a planet, but I always compare the Empire with Nazis. (Or British, 'cause all the officers sound British...)

'Tis often our lot to be considered evil thanks to our - albeit rather charming - accents.
Although, considering that I was raised a Brummie (for a while at least), I'm probably the last British person whose accent could be considered "evil".
The something about the phrase "Y'awright, Chook?" that just doesn't conjour up images of Darth Vader and the Emperor on some sort of murderous rampage..

well, there are a lot more parallels that can be made too. For example, Tatooine and Tunisia, Dantooine and South Africa (or any savana country, really), Kuat and ancient Japan (tho the matriarchal thing is a good bit different). Then you have the entire Hapan Consortium (hehe, I love the way they're named after consorts ) which are largely based off of china. The CSA which is based off the Nazi's and the Russians.... shall I continue?

I agree with Mrs. Miera. Coruscant is Rome. I think if you back more towards the Empirial Rome and Senatorial Rome you will see it. However after looking over your general analysis of the other planets I think that those are good representations of the world in the Roman Days with the exception of Corellia being England.

Discounting the spires, Geonosis has always made me conjure up the Badlands in the Dakotas. But, that's just me. I figure if you give everything a nice orange/yellowish tint it could work out quite well.
