Name: Giles Kappa
Race: Human
Age: 35
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 187 lbs.
Appearance: Giles Kappa is a tall, muscular man with an average Caucasian skin tone. His graying brown hair is kept short and is long enough to cover the tip of his ears. He has bushy eyebrows and they are set to a serious line, with both symmetrical and having a slight tilt inwards. He has a graying brown goatee, the color almost exactly that of his hair and eyebrows. He keeps it well-groomed and rarely changes it's condition. Giles' eyes are a dark green and tend to have speckles of brown when viewed in sunlight. His ears are of average size, as well as his nose, which has a slight curve towards the end. His lips are fierce and straight. His body is muscular from a life of fighting the forces of the dark side, but he is losing his muscle mass to older age. His arms have brown hair on them, as well as his legs. His left hand is a mechanical replacement after his real hand was severed clean off. He does not choose to hid it, but insteads uses it's tighter grip to his advantage. Giles sports a traditional Jedi robe, consisting of an overtunic, an undertunic, a cloak or outer robe with a hood, and sometimes a tabard, each of which generally varied in earth tones. His robe is simple, comfortable, long, and flowing. Giles also wears a leather utility belt, which carries specialized field gear—such as food and tool pouches, a breather pouch, a communicator, and energy and food capsules. Giles finishes off his simple wardrobe with standard brown leather boots.
Birth place: Bestine, Tatooine
Faction: Jedi Order
Rank: Guardian
Bio: Giles Kappa was born the second child to Corren and Viera Kappa in Bestine, the capital city of Tatooine. Corren Kappa was born to freighter pilot parents who were killed in a mass attack on the fleet. Corren grew up hardly remembering his parents and was raised by his older siblings. He wanted to give what he never had, a parent to love and to spoil the children, but some say he hindered their development in the process. Viera Kappa was born Viera Verness, daughter of a royal guard on Serenno and a mother who became addicted to death sticks after her younger brother’s accidental death. She vowed to never leave her children in the way her mother did, but was known to have lapses of depression now and then. Giles was the younger brother to one older sibling as well, a sister, named Lannah, who would eventually go on to marry a Corellian freighter repairman named Jorus Creel. She was a protective sibling, learning to take care of Giles when her parents would make trips to check in on their supplies in the opposing cities. She was a rebellious child, although, and she married out of disrespect for her parents. Giles' father, a blaster merchant, moved his pregnant wife and young daughter to Bestine on Tatooine for a better market for his business.
The business failed early on, but after help from Corren's older brother, Mailen Kappa, the business began to earn the family a living. Mailen’s informal business technique’s and his ability to persuade all who surround into getting what he wanted allowed the business to flourish and soon it became one of the largest and most profitable on Tatooine. Giles was raised by his parents as a potential heir to their business, but Giles would become much more. The elder Kappa, Corren, was happy for the heir he received in his son, but knew his son was unique when a hooded, cloaked man showed up on their doorstep.
This man was Jedi Master Ric-Xana Forr, a Consular on the core world of Coruscant who sensed Giles’ force potential on a diplomatic voyage to the desert world of Tatooine. When he first saw the child, he thought he had mistaken the sense for another Force user, but quickly came to realize he had the right person when he found that the young child was teeming with Force potential. Forr was impressed and decided that he would be willing to take the child, but the Kappa’s were not as easily swayed to a decision.
They had placed in Giles all of their hopes and dreams for their business and with him gone, the fortune would be left to no one, with Giles’ sister Lannah living on Corellia with her husband. Forr attempted to persuade them and insisted that the child would be well taken care of and that he would do good throughout the galaxy with this new training. In the end, however, the Kappa’s did not give up their heir to the Jedi and moved to Mos Entha. Months later, with Forr returned to Coruscant, Giles’ Uncle Mailen began attempting to persuade Giles’ parents to give the child up to the Jedi. Unknown to them, he hoped that using Giles’ name once he became a Jedi would further his business ventures. In the end, he to failed ot persuade them that their child would be better off on Coruscant with the Jedi. Only after almost all of their supplies were burned to the ground in a Tusken Raider raid did they rethink their child’s future. Giles was by now approaching the age of three and was closely reaching the age of creating memories, something they knew he could not have if he was going to train with the Jedi. The two Kappa’s packed up what they had left, their son, and bought passage to Coruscant, specifically the Jedi Temple. During the night the Kappa’s left their sleeping son wrapped in blankets on Ric-Xana Forr’s doorstep.
Awaking in the morning, Forr took the boy to the Jedi Council and explained the story in it's entirety. Though the boy was a bit older than the Jedi usually accepted children, the boy was seen moving a chair in the Jedi Archives across the floor using telekinesis and so the Jedi Council accepted the boy into the Order. Giles, as most Jedi Younglings were, was trained in a clan by a Jedi Master, who turned out to be Ric-Xana Forr, who requested the chance to train the boy. Forr taught his clan the ways of the Jedi and the powers of the Force. Giles progressed at a normal rate, quickly responding to the teachings by Forr and continuing his path to becoming a Padawan in the Jedi Order.
Meanwhile, Forr began a quest to track down Giles’ parents. His motive for doing so was unknown, even to him, but he felted compelled to find out why they had changed their minds. Forr, after months of searching, finally found a holocron that contained a list of people killed in a freighter explosion. The names listed included Corren and Viera Kappa. Forr felt this was something that he needed to keep to himself, as no one besides himself even knew of the elder Kappa’s. He continued to train Giles and his clan of fellow Younglings in the Jedi way, all the while Giles’ powers in the Force continuing to develop. In one particular incident in front of the Jedi Council, Giles, ten years old at the time, showed an extraordinary resilience the mind control, given as a test by one of the Council members. There was talk of him becoming a Padawan soon after, but the Jedi Council decided it was best for him to have a few more years to develop his powers before being given individual training.
Continuing his clan training under Ric-Xana Forr, who secretly thought of the boy as an “adoptive son”. After the Jedi Council decided that Giles had achieved individual satisfactory understanding of the Jedi ways, Giles was taken under the wing of a Jedi Knight Keyan Brodi. Brodi was a dark-skinned man who was known as a daring Jedi who would use his leadership to inspire those around him. Brodi had only recently become a Jedi Knight after rescuing an escape pod full of Galactic Senate members while on a solo mission to Phindar to exploit a smuggling ring. Brodi was immediately impressed with his Padawan’s abilities with the Force. Giles was adept at telekinesis and was also proficient in the healing powers of the Force. In one instant when he was twelve, Giles saved a fellow clan student with the Force who had accidentally received a blaster shot to the leg after stepping in the way of a assault by an Aqualish mercenary who mistook the young boy‘s master for a rogue Jedi. Giles was given an applause by the Jedi Council for his actions in the face of anxiety.
Keyan Brodi and the boy quickly grew on one another. Brodi, who was widely known to be a successfully master of the Lightsaber Form III: Soresu. The form, which was a successful deviant to blaster shots, as well as having some use in lightsaber to lightsaber dueling, was quickly accepted by the young Giles Kappa. Giles was already somewhat adept at Shii-Cho, the standard lightsaber form taught to the young Jedi, and soon became much more productive with Soresu than Shii-Cho. Brodi also taught the boy use of telekinesis, something Giles’ was fairly practiced in, telepathic skills, and protection and healing by use of the Force. As well as teaching him the ways of the Jedi and the proper use of the Force, Brodi brought his pupil along on missions with him.
The first mission the two had with one another was when Giles was fifteen and consisted of investigating the Hutt crime lord, Duena the Hutt. The Hutt was leading a underworld smuggling of illegal spice. The two JedI were ordered to approach the Hutt and offer to him protection from the Jedi and in return he must reveal the location of the shipments of spice he has smuggled. Duena the Hutt needed the protection due to the fact that he had enslaved a Gamorrean who was brother to a particularly nastier crime lord who was looking to kill Duena. The two Jedi easily got past his security, but found the Hutt to be already slain. Their mission was not a complete failure, however, because they retrieved the enslaved Gamorrean and returned him to the Jedi Council for interrogation.
The next mission they took was a rescue mission to rescue Jedi Knight Lyra Calhuu, who had vanished after a mission to Yavin 4. Calhuu had been sent to find a Critokian bounty hunter who was wanted for an attempted assassination on a Galactic Senator. When the two men arrived at the planet, they were confronted by the Critokian, who opened fire on them and merely escaped a death blow from Keyan Brodi. Days later, after running out of food and nearly starving had it not been for Lyra Calhuu finding them, they rooted out the Critokian and he was no match for the three Jedi. They easily returned him to Coruscant where he was placed in imprisonment.
Soon after the missions he had taken part of with Brodi and when he was sixteen, Giles began construction on his lightsaber in the caves of IIum. Through meditation and communion with the Force, Giles’ construction of his lightsaber continued peacefully until he became obsessed with finding the right focusing crystals. He had been advancing on schedule, yet he could not find a suitable crystal to imbue with the Force. In the end he found one that suited him and engaged in the traditional acts of putting it together, making sure that each part fit perfectly, and that it met his exact preferences in length, color, blade frequency, and so on. After a month and a half, Giles finished constructing his lightsaber, a blue-bladed saber with a 32 centimeter silver hilt. Following in his master’s footsteps, Giles made use of a pressure sensor in the hilt's grip that deactivated the blade whenever it was released, acting as a deadman switch.
Soon after he returned to the Jedi Temple, Giles returned to accompanying Keyan Brodi on his missions, continuing his teachings and training as a JedI Padawan. In his first mission back, Giles stumbled upon a T’surr slave trader named Raoul, who was smuggling slaves into a underworld gambling casino. Giles, with Brodi searching elsewhere, confronted the T’surr and received a nasty beating with a blaster. Giles took the onslaught and finally used the Force to lift Raoul and slam him against the landing gear of his ship. Brodi returned with Raoul’s slaves and helped Giles return Raoul to Coruscant for imprisonment in the same style as a mission before on Yavin 4.
Months later, Raoul was broken free from his imprisonment and Giles and Brodi were sent to retrieve him once again. On route to T'surr to find the slave trader, the pair encountered a Dark Jedi. The man, named Acun Daklan, revealed a plan to overthrow the Galactic Senate and secure the Jedi Temple for his own gain throughout the galaxy. The duo soon engaged in lightsaber combat with the man, who showed extraordinary use of the lightsaber form Makashi, using his curved hilt to deal blows to the Jedi pair. Brodi was sent through an elevator shaft after jumping in the way of a Force attack that was aimed at Giles. The man then managed ot gain the upper hand on the young Padawan and took him captive on his ship. The man soon began to torture the young man, all the while interrogating him on the interworkings of the Galactic Senate building. The man, who had been banished form the Jedi Order, was not willing to sneak onto Coruscant to invesitigate the building layouts, but instead used the boy to reveal the plans. Giles endured the excruciating pain long enough for Brodi to return and engage the man in a similar duel than before. Meanwhile, reenforcements had arrived and rescued the duo, who were on the brink of defeat from the Dark Jedi and his droid mercenaries. Giles was starved and in agonizing pain when the Jedi found him, and had quickly sent back to Coruscant for healing. The worst was yet to come for the young Jedi, who awoke with a mechanical replacement hand on his left arm after his former hand could not be salvaged from the shreds of what constant torture had left. Giles encounted many dark feelings throughout his time on Coruscant and did not speak for weeks. Finally, after being spoke to by Vict Masha, a Jedi who had both arms replaced with mechanical replacements, Giles knew he had the will to fight through his inner pain. For the loss of his left hand, as well as his resislience to the dark feelings he felt, the Jedi Council announced that he had passed the Trial of Flesh. Giles and Brodi soon reunited and spent time practicing their lightsaber forms in the Jedi Temple whilst Giles recovered physically. During this time, the two began learning a new form, Shien/Djem So. The form, which was formed off of Soresu, allowed for a defensive positioning for the user yet allowed the user to make their own offensive moves instead of waiting for an opening.
Not long after, Giles was able to further his knowledge of his chosen form, Soresu, when engaging an ambush of droids armed with DC-17 blasters. The mission, which started as a search and rescue mission on Dathomir for a witness in an important crime concerning a Galactic Senator, ended up with the two Jedi being surrounded by droids and carrying an incapacitated witness. Giles and Brodi, who were both adept at the blaster-blocking lightsaber form Soresu, fought off the attack and finally defeated the mass of droids and were able to return the witness safely to Corellia, where he was needed most.
The fight on Dathomir with the droids soon turned out to be the work of Acun Daklan, the Dark Jedi that had taken Giles' left hand. The two Jedi were sent to Dathomir once again to find the man, but he had since recruited two bounty hunters to do his bidding. The two men were engaged by these mercenaries and were nearly caught off-guard, had it not been for Brodi's sense of their passion for hate. Giles and Brodi deflected their shots and finally moved in position to eliminate the two bounty hunters. Giles and Brodi then encounted the Dark Jedi alone. Giles was agressive and made a move for the man, but was nearly sent flying had it not been for Brodi engaging the man with hsi lightsaber. Brodi and Daklan fought until Brodi bested the man and finally got him unarmed. Brodi was attemptign to subdue him when he used Force lightning to send Brodi against a far wall.
At this point, Giles engaged the man lightsaber to lightsaber, using was knowledge of Shien/Djem So he had learned to attempt to take the Maskashi user. Giles was easily disarmed and looked to be on the brink of death if it were not for him summoning his master's lightsaber with the Force and taking a swift swipe at the man, who fell back, missing both forearms. The duel with the Dark Jedi on Dathomir made it clear that Giles had passed the Trial of Courage in his Jedi Trials, which was made clear through a talk with Jedi Master Ric-Xana Forr, who Giles considered his second master.
Soon after his eighteenth birthday, Giles were sent on a simple Jedi training mission to Gards IV with Brodi to test Giles’ knowledge of Force sensitive opponents. A mysterious man who was bent on murdering the young Padawan was actually a Jedi in disguise who was sent by the Jedi Council to test the boy. Brodi was taken captive by the mysterious man’s bodyguards and then challenged the boy to a lightsaber duel. Giles refused, citing that reason was a better solution to a situation. When the man attempted to attack Giles, Giles used his gaining knowledge of the lightsaber form Shien/Djem So to block his attack. The two fought and finally it was the mysterious man who came out on top. Giles, who thought he was on the verge of death, used the Force to slam a drum of oil into the man, who was injured in the process. Brodi returned to explain the real situation to Giles, who was remorseful for injuring a fellow Jedi, but was secretly pleased with the way he handled the situation. Later he learned from the Jedi Council that he had thus passed the Trial of Skill in his Jedi Trials.
Soon after rehabbing from the duel with the mysterious man, Giles went on his first solo mission at twenty-two to the underworld of Coruscant. The mission began as a simple observation mission that required him to study the underworld crime that was present on Coruscant, a planet that was home to the Jedi Order. What Giles saw angered him, leaving him confused as to why a place so cruel could be present when the Jedi were so near. He felt as if the JedI were not doing enough in order to stop the crime on Coruscant and he disobeyed orders and killed a Twi’lek smuggler who approached him about a possible deal over illegal spice and blasters. Giles responded with a quick death blow and returned to the Jedi Temple without speaking. The elder Jedi sensed his dark turn and began asking Brodi of his observations of the Padawan. Brodi, who knew nothing of the incident, approached Giles about it, but Giles merely turned his back to his questions. Despite the fact that he was clearly not his usual astute and able self, the Jedi Council sent him back to the Coruscant underworld in order to test the boy’s spirit. Giles soon came face to face with a rogue Jedi named Surro Antilles who had become a crime lord on Coruscant after intercepting a load of slaves during a mission. Antilles sensed the boy’s dark feelings and played on them, using his knowledge of the dark side to force the boy to do wrong by his teachings with the Jedi. Just as Antilles thought he had completely swayed the boy to his will, Giles pulled his lightsaber, slashed the man’s legs out from beneath him, and returned him to the Jedi Temple alive, the Jedi way. By resisting the urge of the dark side and retaining his Jedi teachings, Giles passed the Trial of Spirit and thus he had passed his Jedi Trials.
Giles was then endowed with the title of Jedi Knight, and thus Kenyan Brodi with the title of Jedi Master. Giles’ Padawan braid was ritualistically severed by a Jedi Master, Giles’ being Ric-Xana Forr. Giles later sent the braid to Lyra Calhuu, the JedI who had saved him on Yavin 4 and a woman who had caught his eye, despite his teachings to resist such temptations. She accepted them as a friend and partner, and he respected her for her decision.
Giles and Brodi continued their partnership when they traveled to Duro to settle a diplomatic dispute between two Durosian leaders. Brodi could not settle the dispute, but Giles used an experience he had during his training as Youngling to find a suitable agreement. Brodi complemented Giles on his diplomatic abilities, but Giles cited the rush of excitement during battle as his decision to remain as a guardian. The two continued on to two more missions to Nierport on a training mission for two Padawans and then to Yavin 4 where there was a suspected dispute between two crime syndicates. Neither mission was eventful and Giles was considerably less in pain than he usually was when returning form the missions.
At twenty three, Giles took his first apprentice in Jaina Ardross. Keyan Brodi accepted a seat on the Jedi Council after Ric-Xana Forr’s departure to the Galactic Senate, despite opposition from the Order. Giles kept in contact with both men, but was forced to stop all communication with Forr once he became a notorious Senator. Giles’ apprentice, Jaina, was a Twi’lek that was particularly suited in lightsaber combat. Giles, who had mastered the standard form of Shii-Cho and was continuing his practice with Soresu and Shien/Djem So. Jaina quickly became a resilient fighter and wise Padawan under Giles’ tutelage. Their first mission came in the form of yet another dispute mission, this time to Tatooine. A band of Tusken Raiders had apparently ordered an attack on the city of Anchorhead. The attack had not happened because of a resistance from the city’s militia, yet the Jedi were called upon in case of a break out. Giles and Jaina quickly solved the dispute by allowing the Tusken Raiders use of the city’s well system, yet forming a contract that stated that there could not be more than twenty Tusken Raider warriors in the city at a time. Giles was again given an applause by the JedI Council, as well as for Jaina, who was vital in the negotiations due to her ability to communicate with the Tusken Raiders. She had, apparently, learned the language through her time with the Jedi Service Corps after she had not been accepted as a Padawan. Only after she impressed her superiors was she allowed another chance at becoming a Padawan.
The pair’s next mission was accompanying an aging member of the Senate from Naboo who turned out to be Ric-Xana Forr, despite the Council’s thought that it was another man. Forr had apparently arranged the meeting to coax Giles into putting the Order under the control of the Galactic Senate. Forr used his history with Giles as a way to sway him to his side, yet Giles was not so easily influenced as Forr thought. In the end, Forr revealed the story of Giles’ childhood before the Jedi Order to distract him. Giles had come close to joining forces with Forr, who had strong ties with many underworld leaders, if it were not for Jaina, who used the Force to disrupt Forr’s concentration and allow Giles ot see the truth. The pair then returned to Coruscant after learning of Forr’s plans to control the Jedi Order. Despite Giles’ opposition, the Council ordered a warrant for Forr’s capture and it was swiftly taken out. Forr eventually succumbed to a disease that plagued his later years while in imprisonment and died alone and in chains.
The fall of Forr to the dark side severely disrupted Giles view of the Jedi Order and the light side of the force as a whole. He knew that what Forr did was wrong and was against all that Forr stood for, yet he could not help what the Order did to his “master”. Not only that, but the revelation that he had a family outside of the Order disrupted his attunement with the Force even further. Despite urges to find his family, Giles continued training Jaina and accepted his next mission from the Council: taking down a large ship carrying illegal arms over Bogden. Jaina was sent to the Jedi Archives to study while Giles suited up to fly a starfighter.
The battle over Bogden was successful, but lost many Jedi. Giles’ own master, Keyan Brodi, was killed in the onslaught from the fleet that the illegal arms dealers brought with them. Giles once again felt apart from the Force after Brodi’s death, yet with Jaina’s help he was able to overcome his feelings of anger and isolation and continue his missions.
Jaina was soon sent to IIum to construct her lightsaber. While she was gone, Giles accepted an offer form the Council to receive instruction from a former Dark Jedi in the art of Force Protection. The man, Vash Starkos, had turned to the dark side after the death of his Padawan and had since fought off his dark oppression and returned to the light side of the Force, despite being banished by the Jedi Order. The Jedi Council decided that training with Starkos would allow Giles a chance to learn more about resisting the urges and dark feelings that come with death from Starkos, who had done just that. Giles trained with Starkos for months before he felt completely satisfied with his ability.
His newly learned form of Force Protection would come into play when he was sent on a mission to Orto Plutonia to observe a recent assault on the world’s industry by invaders. The pair found nothing, but was able to secure plans to a slave ring operation in the Hydian Way that Giles presented to the Jedi Council. The Council then sent the two on a mission to stop the upcoming transaction of slaves in the Hydian Way. Giles and Jaina, both flying starfighters, were attacked by the slave traders, but managed to shoot down their ships and gain control of the ship carrying the slaves. After reinforcements arrived, Giles alone took off after the slave ring lord, a bounty hunter turned slave trader named Dargus Nise. The two battled over the planet Taris until Giles got the better of the fight and shot down Nise’s starfighter. Nise’s ship landed on Taris and Giles was able to salvage the holocron’s stowed aboard the ship. They contained pivotal information to fishing out all of the men responsible for the slave trade ring. Not only did Giles find the holocrons, but he found a senator stowed in the starfighter’s smuggler’s hatch. The man was severely beaten and near death from the impact of the crash. Using his Force Protection, Giles was able to sustain the man’s life long enough to return him to Coruscant for medical attention.
After such mission, Giles and Jaina were sent to patrol the mid-city of Coruscant. There they encountered Vyrr, a Dark Jedi who was attempting to assassinate a senator of the Galactic Senate in order to further the plans of his former master, Acun Daklan. Giles and Jaina were hesitant to engage in combat with the merciless assassin, but had no choice once the man revealed his maroon lightsaber and shot Force lightning at Jaina, who deflected the attack with her lightsaber. Giles and Vyrr engaged in a duel and Jaina soon entered as well, being overpowered by Vyrr yet holding her own when Giles was distracting him. In the end, Vyrr looked to deliver the death blow to Giles, but he was saved when Jaina struck the man with her lightsaber, decapitating him in the process.
When the two returned to the Jedi Temple, they were praised for their defeat of such a powerful opponent. Jaina had thus completed the first trial of her Jedi Trials, the Trial of Skill. The Jedi Council soon sent the pair on another mission that related to the attempted assassination of Galactic Senate members. This time a duo calling themselves Leo and Arslan were makign threats on a Senator's life on Naboo. Though the two men were in the Out Rim Territories, their words spoke of death and the Jeid were called to intercept the men before they did any harm. The duo met the two men over Ryloth and were soon engaged. Giles easily dispatched Leo using the Force, yet Arslan was not as easily slain, due to the fact that he had taken Jaina hostage with a blaster. Jedi attempted to reason with the man and was close to securing his weapon until the ship collided with meteorite and the three were sent sprawling down a corridor until the ship turned back level and the three fell to the floor. Arslan was soon confronted by Jaina, who blocked the man's blaster shots with the Soresu she had been taught by Giles and bested the man with her lightsaber until he fell to the ground with two cuts on his chest. They soon returned the men to Naboo for imprisonment.
Giles was then sent on a solo mission to Malastare for peacekeeping operations whilst Jaina recouperated on Coruscant. During his mission, which was not deemed dangerous, Giles was taken captive by a Hutt crime lord named Pollix the Hutt. The Hutt wanted use Giles as leverage to gain power over the Jedi, which was clearly a not very well thought out plan. Giles attempted to escape, but the Hutt's mercenaries were so large in number that he could not get far. Jaina, meanwhile, was sent with another Jedi, Master Sal Ti Rhea, to rescue Giles. The two Jedi soon infiltrated the Hutt's lair and found Giles, but were surprised to find four mercenaries armed with E-11 blaster rifles. the four mercenaries attempted to take down both Jedi, but Master Rhea fled to another room in order to slip up the foursome. Jaina soon went to work on two of her own, terminating one with a quick swip to the chest, but being closely nicked by a shot from the other. Jaina was soon confronted by the other two mercenaries that had followed Master Rhea. She was outmatched three to one, but took them head on in a duel with Bothan stun sticks. The three mercenaries attempted to crowd her, but she Force jumped out of the oncoming assault and one of the men was stabbed by the other in the process. She then used the Force to quickly dispatch one of them while she slayed the other with her lightsaber. Once she rescued Giles, the two realized that master Rhea had been killed. They gathered his body and returned to Coruscant, where they explained what had happened. Jaina was then told that she had passed the Trial of Courage in her Jedi Trials, halfway to becoming a Jedi Knight.
Soon after the ordeal they had with the Hutt, they were sent back to malastare to finally defeat him and his chums. During the mission, they were approached by a masked man carrying a lightsaber. This man turned out to be a former bounty hunter/smuggler who had learned the use of a lightsaber while he was Youngling, at the Jedi Temple, but was not selected to be a Padawan and left the Order. The man explained that it was his ultimate goal to defeat a Jedi and prove that he deserved to become a Jedi himself. Jaina took the man on in a duel while Giles searched out Pollix the Hutt, entrusting his faith in his Padawan. Jaina got the upper hand, but the man managed to slash her across her back and swipe her legs out from beneath her, leaving her right leg missing and her left leg badly injured. She was nearly defeated had it not been for her using the Force to send the man flying backwards against the wall.
Giles soon returned after securing the Hutt with help from reenforcements, yet the man was stirring again and Jaina was uncapable of fending him off. Giles and the man engaged and soon Giles, the more experienced of the two, stuck the man in the stomach, who fell back on the floor, dead. Jaina was then returned to Coruscant, where she received two mechanical replacement legs from the top of the knee down and was forced to stay and rest, despite pleas to get back to her missions. Months passed and Giles soon began training her more while she rested, just as Giles' master had done for him. The two worked more on Soresu, as well as Shii Cho. Meanwhile, the duo learned Jaina had passed the Trial of Flesh for the loss of her legs, but was still not cleared to return to missions with Giles, who was negotiating peace talks on Tatooine.
While Giles was continuing his missions, Jaina was in the sickbay awaiting the chance to return to being an active Jedi. She soon became lonely, feeling that her opportunity to become what she wanted to be, her master, had fallen out of her reach. She fell into a depression that not only kept her from partaking in her missions, but her daily routines as well. Giles soon approached the young woman to figure out the change in her, but she merely shrugged it off as a "bad day". Giles would be sent on another mission, this time to Kintan, in order to observe how a recent peace treaty was working out. The peace treaty had apparently not worked well, as the planet was on the verge of a planetary civil war. Giles was not one to takes sides and the two sides saw him as a enemy. Giles was soon attacked by both sides until he was the most wanted man on the planet.
Hearing of this, the Jedi dispachced units of starfighters to rescue to trapped Jedi. Jaina, did not approach the Jedi Council to save her master, but instead boarded a lone starfighter and took off to Kintan by herself. When she arrived the Jedi Council reenforcements had been badly damaged and were fending off starships from causing further pain to the planet. Jaina sped onto the planet and followed Giles' tracker until she found him standed in a forest. Once Giles was on-board, the two sped off, eyt were encounted by two enemy starfighters. With most of the Jedi's reenforcements having been eliminated, Jaina had relatively no help. She managed to out-maneuver the two and shoot one down before she managed to enter a group of reenforcements from Coruscant. The duo later arrived back at Coruscant and Giles received medical treatment.
Soon after her rescue of Giles, Jaina learned form the Jedi Council that she had passed the Trial of Spirit because of her ability to face her grief and face her attackers even in the face of danger and defeat. Thus she was awarded with the title of Jedi Knight for passing the Jedi Trials with a strong connection with the Force and showing that she followed the ways of the Jedi correctly and shows proficiency in the required skills. In the process, Giles received the title of Jedi Master and soon was offered a seat on the Jedi Council, just as his master before him. He declined, citing that he preferred to be a Jedi Guardian in order to work alongside the Jedi that saved his life: his own Padawan, Jaina Ardross.
Jaina and Giles continued their missions together, taking part in a starfighter battle above Klatooine. During the battle, a piece of starfighter landing gear impacted with the starfighter Giles was flying, causing the cockpit to be damaged and Giles, who used his arm to shield his face, received damage to his right arm, but was not in need of a replacement.
Soon after the battle above Klatooine, Jaina accepted her first Padawan, a Corellian boy who had been particularly adept at telepathic skills. Giles accepted her decision and still felt his debt unpaid to her, but vowed he would pay it off one day. Though he refused yet another offer to join the Jedi Council, the Council now entrusts him with their most difficult missions.

RP Sample: Giles Kappa began dodging the blaster shots, each of them taking a hole from his dark brown robe and leaving it smoking from the velocity of the hits. He slid across the hallway and behind a doorway so that he could remove his robe without being attacked. Giles had, only moments earlier, been speaking with Szubba the Hutt on the Jedi Counsel's decision to deny his passage to the Outer Rim Territories when blaster droids had appeared and rendered his robe smoking and useless.
After quickly disrobing and removing his lightsaber from it's spot on his utility belt, Giles appeared from behind the doorway with his lightsaber in his left hand and his right hand ready to grab hold of his saber as well. The blaster droids, who rendered that they have eliminated Giles, turned and began blasting off shot after shot without remorse. Giles immediately ignited his lightsaber and the common blue plasma grew from the hilt and he took it with both hands, moving it so as to block each blaster shot. Giles then rolled to his right and did the same again, constantly moving towards his enemy.
Finally, Giles made it close enough to duck a blaster shot and disembowel one droid and decapitate another next to it. Three droids were left and they were relentless with their attacks. Each of them consistently fired shot after shot until Giles waved his hand across the room, using the Force to plant the droids on their back-sides. He then leapt from the floor and spun in the air and crashed down on one droid, sending his lightsaber directly through it's head. The next two got to their feet, but Giles used his speed to take both of them out with one swipe of his lightsaber. When all were terminated and the scene had quieted down, Giles flicked off his lightsaber and returned it to his utility belt.
"It seems you have gotten past the droids I had sent to eliminate you, Kappa, but you won't be so lucky this time," muttered Szubba the Hutt in his native language, one that Giles had come to know all too well in his time removing the Hutt crime ring. Giles planted his feet in expectance of more droids, but out came a dark-skinned Iktotchi male carrying Westar-34 twin Dallorian blasters at his side. He did not speak, but he did remove his blasters and begin firing them at Giles once the Hutt had removed himself from the situation.
The Iktotchi began sprinting straight towards Giles, who ignited his lightsaber and readied himself for the final moments. The supposed bounty hunter slid beneath a swipe from Giles lightsaber and fired off two blaster shots, one whizzed by Giles' ear and the other closely scathed his right arm. Giles grabbed his arm, but blocked out the pain, as he had been taught before. He got to his feet and readied himself for another attack, but the Iktotchi had stopped. With the blaster still at he ready, the Iktotchi began to speak in Giles' language.
"You are Giles Kappa, are you not?" Questioned the bounty hunter, turning his head to make out Giles face from across the hallway. Giles did not reply, deciding it was not in his best interest to interrupt. "Your former apprentice was slain by my mother, Liiren Varree!" Immediately Giles slumped from his battle-ready stance and his lightsaber switched off when he dropped it to the floor. Giles could hardly think, he could hardly move, he could hardly... breathe. He looked up at the Iktotchi, who he know knew to be Tiric Varree, a man he had looked for during the months after Jaina's death at the hands of Liiren Varree. Giles had since reconciled with himself about the guilt he felt over her death, feeling he did not train her well enough, and he had since left Tiric go unwatched throughout the galaxy.
"Listen to me, Jedi scum, you will die today. My mother is long gone, having taken a lightsaber threw the chest, but I am here now to avenge her death!" Immediately, Tiric lunged at Giles, who ducked the oncoming assault, pulled his lightsaber from it's spot on his utility belt, and slashed Tiric's stomach as he soared overhead. Tiric fell hard onto the floor and slid for a moment and then skidded to a halt. Giles used the Force to detect any sign of life, but there was none left. He was gone.
It had been days since Giles had defeated Tiric Varree and as he sat in the Jedi Temple, drinking a glass of water and searching the Archives for an upcoming mission, Giles could not help but to think about how similar Tiric's words had been to him were to his own years ago. He felt how they were alike, but could not figure out how this could be. That man was influenced more by the dark side if anything, but Giles was a soldier of light.
"I feel tension in you, my friend," said Ric-Xana Forr as he entered the Jedi Archives room that Giles was sitting in. "I sense that you are not at peace. Come, tell me your situation."
Giles waited for Ric-Xana to sit before he began. "Since my encounter with Varree on the Hutt's ship, I cannot help but see the similarities between what he said and what I said years ago. I wonder, have I changed? I have become a true Jedi once again or am I an imposter?" Finished Giles, waiting for a response from the man that brought him to the Jedi temple over thirty years before.
"There are similarities between him and how you once were," replied Ric-Xana, "but you must see that it is how you are different that truly matters. You chose to change and did so, and the Jedi Counsel would not have allowed you back if they did not deem you worthy of your missions once again. You are a Jedi, and that is what makes you different from him. We are not perfect, not is the dark side, but we strive to do what is right, not what we think is right to further our own gains. That is what sets us apart, that is what makes the difference."
Giles and Forr exchanged a shoulder pat to one another before Forr took his leave from then Archives room. Giles thought on what he had said for a moment and then continued his work for his next mission, flipping through the datacards he had pulled from the shelves only hours earlier. He smiled.

He smiled.
