Species Name: Aphithiri
Species Type: Near-Human
Subspecies: Original "Free Born"
Planet of Origin: Aphithir
Average Maximum age: 200
Age of Maturation: 22
Average Height:
Male: 6'7"
Female: 6'3"
Average Weight:
Male: 230
Female: 170
Number of limbs and Type: 2 arms, 2 legs, 1 head
Description/Biological Features: The Aphithiri free born race is a most curious one. Not necessarily in biology, or anatomy, but rather in how unmodified they are compared to the offshoot races they've created. While they were subject to serious selective breeding and minor genetic modification in their formative years, they are now a species in their own right. Aphithiri generally have black or very dark colored hair, and bronzed skin. They also rarely have luminous shades of blonde hair, such as platinum or bleach blonde. Their eyes are generally an almond shape, and facial structures vary dependent on the region.
They are considerably taller than the average human, and their eyes come in many different shades, all of them vibrant. There are no members of this race with black or white eyes, but silver is extremely rare. Green eyes are even rarer than silver, and at the current birth rate there is one every ten or so years. See culture.
Due to the aforementioned genetic modification they have increased their lifespan by over one hundred percent, and have an increased resistance to diseases and toxins. This comes at a cost, however. Bacta, medicinal & leisure drugs, and alcohol also have a very decreased effect on all species' of the Aphithiri. The only form of healing that isn't particularly effected is Force Healing. An aphithiri has an incredibly powerful sense of smell, but because of this their susceptibility to airborne chemicals, pheromones, and pathogens is increased significantly.

Average Maximum age: 60

Average Height: 7'5"

Number of limbs and Type: 2 arms, 2 legs, 1 head
Description: The offshoot race of the Aphithiri are nothing short of monstrous in build and height. They are barrel chested and bulky, and an untrained eye would say that their lack of muscle definition would make them weak. This is not the case. Even the weakest of Aphithiri warriors can perform feats that a human body builder could only dream of. While they look largely the same as their shorter brethren, the offshoot race of the Aphtihiri generally weigh at least one hundred pounds more than their creators. This race doesn't sexually reproduce, as every last one of them is Male. Each and every member of the Warrior offshoot has been bred from splicing the genetic material of great warriors from the past that is cryogenically stored. Should this material ever run out, they would take from the existing civilian population.
During the genetic splicing process the heart was heavily modified to fail at the age of 60 because the Aphithiri were paranoid of a rebellion. They were also modified to be considerably more powerful so that they could heave the cannons and greatswords that they wield as if they were a regular rifle or sword. Their intelligence may be sub-par compared to a human but their ability to take orders most certainly is not. They are incredibly loyal creatures with a peerless natural ability and athleticism.

Description: The operator offshoot race is extremely diminutive and adroit compared to the other two races within the species. They have increased awareness and perception, and are usually far sighted so that their keen eyes can spot threats from a distance while they pilot their vehicles. Unlike their warrior brethren, the Operator offshoot is exclusively female due to the inherent dexterity from the gender that their every day life requires. While they live about as long as the average aphithiri they take a few more years to fully mature. While the warriors are essentially foot soldiers who's job is incredibly easy to grasp, an operator's job is considerably more technical and takes years of learning to fully master. It is because of this that the heart defect that was spliced into the warrior race is most notably absent. An Operator is generally incredibly technically adept and has extreme hand to eye coordination.

Culture/Society: The Aphithir'ai society is a rather harsh one. They are slightly xenophobic and the peasant class is looked down on with extreme disdain by the upper classes. The top tier of Aphithiri society is ironically the same race as one of the peasant class: the only difference being the upper tier of Aphithiri counted their ancestors as the members of the military when they had first landed. This upper tier largely takes the form of an ancient Feudal state with a King, high lords, lesser lords, and simple knights. Despite this ancient and dated style of governing and culture, the Aphithiri are just as advanced as the rest of the galaxy. Though they tend to favor magnetic accelerators for energy weapons thanks to the brutality of it all. They also wield swords for when the enemy gets too close. All of their technology is made from a special alloy they call Aphisteel, which is far heavier than regular steel and resistant to the fury of a lightsaber.
The Warrior race offshoot makes up the bulk of the knight tier of their society, and is by far the most martially capable. While they eschew armor and say that 'steel skin is for cowards', their prowess in dealing death certainly makes up for this somewhat unreasonable view. This was yet another variable introduced into the warrior tier by the original Aphithiri in case of rebellion. All members of the original race wear armor, citing that cowards wear armor... but idiots don't. This offshoot race of giants often looks at themselves as if they are vastly superior to the other two, and are gods amongst the peasant community. They care little for the Operator offshoot race, but know not to disrespect them because of their sheer combined technological and technical skill.
These warriors are the ones that believe in honor before reason, though their own sense of honor and morality is highly skewed. They follow a bushido code that keeps them from going two against one against an enemy, and never resorting to dirty tactics. They also will refuse to kill an unarmed warrior, though will instantly slay any of them that attempt to flee combat. Despite their hatred for killing the unarmed, they do not bat a lash at murdering innocent civilians including women and children of the lower class. Even the select few Operators that are unfortunate enough to survive their vehicle behind enemy lines aren't safe.
The operators are peculiar, as they don't fit into the generalized castes that were created. They perhaps have it the easiest because their jobs require so much technical knowledge/proficiency. An operator can be called to do anything from be a doctor to a starfighter pilot. They are among the most populace of the species and perhaps hold the most martial strength due to their technology, though they are treated well enough to be satisfied. Operators aren't allowed command, that honor is reserved for the Free Born race.
The peasant class is the most numerous caste and are generally farmers or civilian mechanics. They are treated like second class citizens by all of the above tiers, and are exclusively Free Born Aphithiri. Despite this horrible day to day life, they still live life better than the Nagan, which is the Aphithiri word for Golkiir. The Nagan are a slave race that almost work exclusively in the ore mines, refineries, and factories.
Religion:
Each clan has their own varying beliefs on the Gods and Goddesses, which is often times the reason why the planet is in a constant state of war. Most of these differences are minor, and often involve changing the name or a slightly separate account of how the universe was formed. For the most part, though, the Aphithiri believe that everyone, including the Dragon-gods themselves, are subject to the whims of destiny. Though there is such a thing as free will, no one can escape the ultimate purpose that they are to serve to galaxy at large.
Yet, rarely, there are people born without a destiny. As these people move through life their mere presence shapes those around them, and diverts paths that were otherwise set in stone. They are able to wield "the Power", or the Force as the galaxy knows it, and are always born with vibrant green eyes. Half breeds, though more far more common than full blooded Aphithiri, rarely have the green eyed marker of a Force user. These chosen few wielders of the Power born to the Aphithiri have, without fail, made a huge impact on Aphithiri society.
Thankfully they are extremely rare.
Force Sensitivity
The original Aphithiri offshoot is the race that most commonly has the ability to wield the force, it is extremely rare for more than two to be born in a hundred years. Hybrids far more commonly produce Force wielders, but the insular nature of the Aphithiri isn't conducive to mingling with other species. Though the two offshoot species do have the ability, it is beyond rare for them. The warriors have only ever seen one in their entire history; Alfons Fra'nelen.
The operators have had three, two of house Archria and one of house Arckanhai.
Blood Lust / Rage:
Coined the "Reikari" by the Aphithir'ai warriors and "Raolod" in Aphithir'a, the 'blood rage' is a state of being that every aphthiri adult slips into after a certain amount of pain or emotional distress. It effectively turns the person into little more than a non-sentient animal, though his/her strength, speed, and pain tolerance are augmented considerably. After the user has left the state of mind, they generally slip into unconsciousness for a short length of time, as well as suffer short term memory loss for a few hours after waking up. It's obvious when an Aphithiri has dipped into this state, as a blood vessel in their eyes releases a trace amount of blood, just enough to give the user's eye color a bloody appearance.
It's possible to control this state of being, as well as trick the Apithiri body into releasing the natural chemicals and stimulants that begin the state. Though it takes great amount of focus and requires great amounts of energy to keep one's sanity. One who tricks their body into this state, as well as retain their sentience (at the cost of some speed and power), tend to need considerably more rest afterwards. They also suffer short term memory loss, though not nearly as long.
Language:
There are many Aphithiri langauges, each one containing provincial and even regional dialects. As a whole it's named "Aphithir'i." Pronounced "Aff-eh-theer-ee-ee" All of the dialects and separate languages share one of two root languages that have been bastardized by time.

(Aff-eh-theer-eye-ee)
Aphithir'ai is the descendant of one of the two overarching root languages and focuses on smooth, flowing words and a notable lack of conjunctions, indefinite, and definite artcles, define the tongue. All tenses are considered to be present, but the tone and inflection in which the statement was made is what determines whether it was past, present, or future. Aphithir'ai also has no grammatically neuter objects.
For an example, the statement, 'I broke the hydrospanner yesterday, its handle is broken into three pieces' would roughly translate to, "I broke hydrospanner yesterday. Her handle broke into three pieces.'
-Naming
Popular names amongst native speakers of Aphithir'ai are often just as softly spoken and flowing as the language itself. They are generally short, and contain an inflection depending on the gender of the child. The way the word is pronounced determines which gender it leans towards.
A name that ends with a hard sound is most likely male while a name that ends with a softer inflection is most likely female. There are alternate gender forms of most names with only a few exceptions. Multiple or long vowels within a name are always female.
Examples;

Ai (Eye-ee) Female
Aruko (Are-ooh-ko) Male

All Aphithiri'u names have a hard, stoney sound to them. Perhaps the only similarity between the two distantly related languages of Aphithir is the fact that females generally have softer sounding names where males have harder ones. Aphisteel: One of the few substances that is resistant to the lightsaber. It is made this way by a special process that involves mixing molten steel with purified aphith ore, which is mined by the naga deep within the planet. After the alloy is made it is cured in a specialized chemical secreted within the Naga's own body. The ending product is steel that is much, much heavier, but stronger, than most other refining processes. It is slightly stronger than mandalorian iron, though beskar is far lighter.
Aphisteel is only used in weapons and starship hulls, as armor is considered cowardly by the Aphithiri.
Martial Arts: As one can expect, there are countless subforms and minute variations of the forms below that can vary by region or even personal practitioner. Below are merely generalizations and descriptions of the original idea of the forms. Aphithir'ai pronunciation Aphithir'u pronunciation
"River's Flow" - Ki-Tsum'iyinn Logr-Loekr
The River's Flow may appear to be extremely soft, gentle, and flowing but when mastered it is absolutely devastating. It was designed with a small combatant against a larger one in mind, and focuses on using circular motions to allow the attacker's strikes to pass by while simultaneously issuing the defender's reply outward. On the offense, strikes are generally made in swift but weaker jabs. A master of the River's flow can send a flurry of punches into an opponent in a very small amount of time.
Though initially focused on combat, it is often used by nobles and peasants alike in it's slower, more therapeutic form.
"Way of the Falling Leaf" - Ki-Ha-Rakka Hrata Laefsblad
The Falling Leaf is an extremely mobile form that focuses on spiral movements. The practitioner must be able to redirect one's path the instant that resistance is met. Offensively, the practitioner will attempt to move around the opponent so that punches and kicks can be delivered from the harder to protect flanks or behind. This also makes it more difficult for the opponent to counter. Strikes are often made swiftly and powerfully with fists and kicks.
"Dragon's Palm" - Ki-Yoh'ihon Aldrmr Noemr
The Dragon's palm is an extremely aggressive style that focuses on extending the body into strikes that explode through the opponent. Pure aggression is the one true defense in the mind of a Dragon's Palm practitioner. Strikes themselves are often delivered with fist, palm heel, elbow, knee, and foot.
Misc
Naga: The aborigines sentient species, they are sentient, but are slaves to the Aphithiri. The Nagan population is roughly twice the size of their master's population, forcing the Aphithiri to adopt a citizen/soldier culture to avoid civil war. They are constantly in fear of a Nagan revolt.
Cowards: Anyone who shows cowardice in the face of battle. An outcast of society, they stand even lower than the Naga in the pecking order.
Alien: Anyone who is not of the Aphithiri or the slave race. They do keep in minor contact with extra solar alien governments, such as the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, but it is in a very strict and limited fashion. House Arckanhai is the only faction to keep free contact with the outside; they own an open public starport.
