[OOC: Little bit more helpful info for Lightsaber forms, ignore the requirements stuff that also... is optional stuff I had assigned on my own site for some sense of balance --anything in yellow--.)
With dangerous weapons require great skill and practice. Below are the 'martial arts' swordsmanship forms of the Jedi based around and for Force-users or those who wish to employ the lightsaber as a weapon.
starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber_combatForm I: Shii-Cho "Way of the Sarlacc" or "Determination Form"Form I is the most basic lightsaber fighting style or form, serving as a basis for most of the lightsaber training a Jedi will receive. The first styl developed by the JEdi with the advent of the energy-bladed weapons, Form 1, consists of a variety of standard dueling maneuvers that Padawans are required to learn before moving into other fighting styles. Since almost all Jedi study this lightsaber form, it is difficult to determin what qualifies a Form 1 user as a master: however. Those that have distinguished themselves and studied the core style's subtleties and intricacies are some of the most reliable and solid fighters in the Order.
All Jedi Padawans begin with this form. Also for anyone else who wishes to learn another of the Forms they must first learn this one.Form II: Makashi "Way of the Ysalamir" or "Contention Form"Form II lightsaber combat is a rarely seen fencing style that emphasizes both finesse and speed. Count Dooku mastered Form II and brough the archaic style back into practical use at the dawn of the Clone Wars.
Form III: Soresu "Way of the Mynock" or "Resilience Form"Form III, the chosen form of Obi-Wan Kenobi, originated as a set of stances and maneuvers designed to counter incoming blaster fire. As the form developed into a more mainstream combat style, it eventually became a very popular style as the number of Jedi dwindled.
Form IV: Ataru "Way of the Hawk-Bat" or "Aggression Form"Form IV is an acrobatic style that allows the combatant to draw upon his or her natural athletic prowess to outmanuever an opponent. Though more aggresive than most styles, Form IV was common in the galaxy's more dangerous days.
Form V: Shien "Way of the Krayt Dragon" or "Perseverance Form"Form V also stems from a desire for more power when dueling with a lightsaber, but it's origins can actually be traced to the Form III style rather than physical strength of form IV. The style is based on philosophy of peace through superior strength. Form V focuses on turning an enemy's own strength against him then following with overwhelming force. It seeks to perfect the art of blaster bolt redirection and is thought of by some as the best defense against any threat.
(requires Form III: Soresu)
Form VI: Niman "Way of the Rancor" or "Moderation Form"[/size]
Form VI is a condsolidation of many of the lessons taught by Forms I, III, IV, and V. it was the most common style in use during the early days of the Clone Wars. Form VI does not require the intensity of many other forms, but rather seeks to create harmony between all other styles. It's sometimes referred as the "diplomat's" form" because its study allows time for the pursuit of other fields suck as politics, negotiation, and diplomacy.
Form VII: Juyo / Vaapad "Way of the Vornskr" or "Ferocity Form"Form VII, the chosen style of Master Mace Windu, is among the most difficult syles for a Jedi to master. It is one of of unprdictible movements and direct assaults, constantly throwing opponents off guard thanks to continual and seemingly unconnected movements. Still being developed by the style's masters, Form VII, is composed of many paradoxes and other difficult concepts for students to grasp, and as a result it has many fewer students than other styles.
Less Common FormsSokan Developed by ancient Jedi Knights during the Great Hyperspace War. Sokan combines tactics of evasion and mobility from Form III with the kinetic motions for Form IV. It involves swift strokes which were aimed towards opponents vital areas all while trying to out-maneuver opponents into favorable positions. Emphasising on great speed and mobility it has relatively little capabilities in ways of defense however.
(Requires a Trainer, Forms III:Soresu and IV:Ataru)Jar'Kai This is a subform of Niman, it allows a Jedi to fight with two lightsabers. One in each hand. One weapon is generally used for defense where as the other is used for attack. The Yovshin Swordsmen were said to have invented the Jar'Kai style.
Ancient Niman relied on steel blades, long before lightsabers were invented. Sometime during the New Sith Wars the lightsaber would be employed with Jar'Kai. This style throughout the ages has become very popular among the Sith and Dark-Siders finding it's dual usage an advantage over most Jedi they should encounter.
Darth Maul was a Master of Jar'Kai.
(Requires Form VI: Niman and two lightsabers or bladed weapons)TrispzestA combined form of the Form VII elements and S'kytri aerial dueling, Trispzest is an aerial lightsaber combat style developed orginally by Majestrix of Skye, Kharys.
It mean's heart palpitation in the S'kytric language. Allowing flying in battle for use against grounded unites. If used as a style by "walkers," it is very acrobatic attacks relying on leaps and jumps assisted by the Force to be used effectively making it's style very rare for non 'winged' or flying races to learn and rather entertaining to see displayed.
(requires training and Form VII:Juyo)
