CUSTOM SPECIES
((Expect this to be often added upon.))
Name: Wolvdrachen
Allegiance: Neutral
Appearance: They are wolf-like in many ways, from muzzle, ears, eyes, in their thick fur coat, tail, and the non-retractable claws at the end of each limb. Their fur is long and thick, suitable for the colder weather of many planets including their home planet. All four limbs are bent likewise to the way a wolf's would. Teeth match those of a wolf as well, with thick canines for biting and ripping.
The paws of said creatures appear more like a human's hand. On a wolf, the forelimbs, there are four toes. Those toes on a wolvdrachen are stretched to more like fingers, but are thick and short. The dewclaw sits higher up on the forelimb. There are claws sporting from each finger/toe. The paws on the back limbs are over-sized, but appear no more than your average wolf paws. The are simply over-sized to support their entire weight on their back legs. They may walk on all four or raise themselves on their back legs. Either way works, though running is done mainly on all fours. However, some find it easier to stand on two than most of the others do.
The fur is odd. Though every wolvdrachen has, at first appearance, white fur, every pelt is just barely tinted with a color. The color stands out more along boney areas, such as the ridges of the eyebrows, elbows, and spinal area. As pups, the color may not be noticeable at first, but as they become older and more developed, the fur becomes tinted. The colors are somewhat dull on the fur, and to an untrained or weak eye, the color may not be seen by other species. Colors may include a muddy red(sometimes noticeable), royal blue (noticeable), deep green (sometimes emerald, usually noticeable), sapphire (exceptionally hard to see on the fur), red orange (more noticeable), and golden (depending on the hue, may or may not be noticeable). Sometimes there is the odd, strange color, which leads to superstitious beliefs. See below.
NOTE: The notice ability next to each color defines whether or not the color can be seen by human/humanoid like eyes.
Color of fur chart:
Muddy red: noticeable
Royal blue: noticeable
Deep green/emerald: noticeable
Sapphire: Hard to see
Red orange: noticeable
Golden: May or may not be noticeable
Frequent rares (every fourth or fifth generation):
White: obviously, no color
Gray: depending on hue, may or may not be noticeable
Other Information:
The voice of a wolvdrachen can be related to more a German accent. Their tongue and voice tend to be harsh, especially on punctuations. There is a distinct difference in male and female: Female voices are a little more singsongy than the males. Males tend to have an incredibly deep and gravel grating voice.
Female bodies are more lithe than their males, though tend to have sharper angles than their male counterparts. The noses are also different, males being rounder and females sharper and angled more. While females have the smaller build and are generally faster than the males, the males pack on heavier bones and durable, thicker muscles.
The species lives in different tribes. They are known for wearing ornate decorations and painting their fur to distinguish tribes. The most important paint markings can be found on the head, which tells what tribe they are from right off the bat, as each tribe has their own symbol.
More often than not, when a female wolvdrachen gives birth, it’s to two pups. Sometimes there is an odd one out, where there is the occasional one or three. Usually, two are per birth.
Pups that are born blind tend to be the spiritual leaders of the tribe. This usually happens every second or third generation. Pups that are born deaf are considered a curse, but deaf pups also tend to be very week and die before their first two years are up.
Between eight to eleven generations, a pup is born blind with their eyes consumed with completely white Unnerving, it's a very powerful superstition that drives the elders to banish the entire family connected to the white-eyed pup. This includes the parents, siblings, older siblings, grandmothers and grandfathers (if alive).
Heights:
These heights are always on the backlegs.
Females (Wolva): The average usually settle somewhere in the 6’ area when on their back legs.
Males (Wolvdro): Males tend to be up in the upper 6’ area, and rarely make it past 7’5’’, standing up.
Life-span:
40 years on average for wolvdro (male). Wolva (female) averaging maybe 43.
Strengths: The wolvdrachen are tight and thick muscles that can be as tough as leather hide to get through. Most of the species, especially the males, are warriors of some kind and have had training to toughen the muscles extremely.
Because of their warrior traits, this makes them also very formidable opponents. Claws and teeth are natural weapons of the body, but spears and staves are common hand-held weapons for those who find it easier to stand on two legs. When training to be a warrior, they learn tactics seen in wolves (here on Earth), in both hunting and fighting. In groups they are mighty strong. Solo they will still fight like animals in a corner.
Weaknesses: Wolva and pups are highly valued. When traveling, they are kept to the center. Kill the wolva and the pups and it is unlikely that a tribe will survive. In the cold environment, pups are more prone to dying.
Soft underbelly that can be punctured.
A singled out wolvdrachen is not strong without his brothers.
They are not high-class thinkers. They are capable of thought and speech and tactics, but it often comes down the impulse called instinct.
Not technologically advanced.
Uneducated on outside world.
Allegiance: Neutral
Lifestyle: Surviving the first couple of years as a pup is one of the first hardest trials of a Wolvdrachen. The tribe will tend to settle down for a few weeks when wolva are birthing and attention to the pups is priority. Everyone guards or aids the wolva and the pups. Wolva could be considered queens during this period of time, for everyone heeds her call. They want the best for their tribe, and the best is to survive. They fetch food for the mother to eat in order to produce milk for her babies, they huddle closely to keep them as warm as possible, anything to keep mom and pups surviving and well. As pup fur thickens in a few weeks, the tribe will migrate again.
A tribe is in danger when it settles for too long. Depending on the season, storms may catch up to them. If they have great rivals, a tribe could be overtaken. Food grows scarce, waste piles up and could eventually start an illness. Migration for survival is essential.
As time wears on, it seems compassion for pups shrinks. This is not so much the case as a tribe wants their kind to be tough. The pups are made to learn to walk instead of being carried. They are taught how to properly communicate and at a certain age, perhaps five years of age, the males are separated from their mother and sisters to go through training. Wolvdro are the force of the tribe and every one of them go through rigorous warrior training. Older wolvdro all act as fathers to the young warrior. They coach, they criticize, they push and shove and boost confidence, will, drive, loyalty, dedication, and pride. If they can walk well on their two legs, wolvdro are taught to handle spears and staves.
Wolva: Wolva are not taken from their mothers. Like wolvdro to a young, all wolva are mothers to one. While not trained to be the mighty warriors wolvdro are, wolva are more of the medicine dedicated. They are taught to be swift and agile. While they do develop muscle they are still comparatively smaller than the male. Wolva are taught to hunt, taught to talk better, and taught to be compassionate. If there’s any speech between the tribes, it’s usually the wolva who are the representatives. Unity happens through the wolva. They keep the pack and the idea of brotherhood together.
There are some wolva, however, who wish to become warriors. This decision is commonly made a year after into their political-based training from their mother. There is a set group of female warriors who would teach the young wolva to become a warrior. The young are taught everything a wolvdro would learn, but the wolva have an oath they take: an oath of never mating. To be a warrior and to become burdened with children would hinder the call to protect the entire tribe.
Normal life: Wolvdro consider themselves adult at age sixteen. They have a childhood, the life before they are five, and a teenage period which is roughly ten through fifteen. The wolva childhood is more over done at seven and they are not adults until they reach eighteen. When growing wolvdrachen reach their adulthood, they are marked with the design of their tribe and not until then. When one is marked by the tribe, they belong to that tribe and are dedicated to that tribe alone. That is their pack, their brotherhood.
Other information to come
Mating: Mating is considered something of glorious within a pack. Unmated wolvdro try to woo the wolva they like the best. There are sometimes spats between wolvdro about a certain wolva, but this is always away from the wolva. It is disrespectful to fight over a wolva in front of her. Wolva consider mates for a long time, and they tend to talk among themselves. Mated wolva give motherly advice and help the unmated females choose who they wish in the long run. Once it is decided that a wolvdro and wolva wish to mate, there is ceremony and celebration. Wolvdrachen mate for life.
Sometimes mating happens between two tribes. This occurs when two tribes agree to become one. There are two mating sessions that solidify two tribes. For example, there is Tribe A and Tribe B. A wolvdro from Tribe A must be willing to mate with a wolva from Tribe B. From Tribe B, a wolvdro must be willing to mate with a wolva from Tribe A.
The only time a tribe may settle down for a long time, outside of birth, is springtime. Springtime is a peace-keeping time and the time that there is more game than usual. This is a time for tribes to link up and host games. Games compare tribes to other tribes and establish the best warriors, hunters, and even politicians. (Kind of like the Greek Olympic games.)
Naming:: There is no such thing as an original tribe name any longer. Tribes have mated within each other so many times that the name are jumbled and some of the meanings lost.
However, for each woldro and wolva, there’s a pattern. Because of how the pattern is, pups go for a long time without having names, or only half a name.
For wolva, the first part of the name is defined by their color and the second part by a talent or trait of theirs. As a pup, a wolva may be known as “Roe”, red. As they grow older, they may be very strong for a wolva and may quickly be known as “Roezah”.
For wolvdro, they follow a pattern of something describing him physically and THEN something relating to their color. For a strong male, he would have “Zah” at the beginning and “roe” at the end.
Common ways to describe colors: Roe (red), Gelb (yellow), Zur (blue), Emer (green), Oran (orange), Plur (purple), phire (fire), blut (blood), Eis (Ice), saphir (sapphire), mon (mud), sone (sun), flam (blaze)
Common first(male) and second (female) names: Zah (tough), stark (strong), fenl (fast), schen (speed), wind (wind), lie (song), spreak (speak), laut (loud), ruh (quiet), amph (fight), glitern (glitter), larg (large), klee (small), sark (sparkle), rau (rough), hert (heart), bih (big), pip (tiny), min (mini), lange (long), kur (short), tale (tall), shrint (shrimp), lite (little)
Language: Much of the language is harsh sounding. Most of the language is spoken using short, sharp noises in the form of words. Foreigners commonly mistake a casual conversation as an angry scolding. It sounds passionately angry and very rough. Some of the language is spoken using snarls and growls to punctuate how words are spoken. Without the voice box of a wolvdrachen, it is impossible to master the proper way to speak. Tribes who have accepted foreigners often laugh at the attempts to pronounce the growling words.
Culture: Wolvdrachen center themselves on brotherhood. They do not survive if the brotherhood does not. There have been times where a single survivor of a tribe has been asked to be put to death so they can be just like the rest of their brothers and sisters. For them, it is a sin to remain alive. This is how strong the bonds are between a tribe. Everything is done together, from celebration to migration to hunting to sleeping.
“We adore our sisters,
We love our mothers.
We follow our fathers,
We sit beside our brothers.
If my brother is hungry,
I will be hungry.
If my brother is thirsty,
I will be thirsty.
We fight beside our brothers.
If my brother enters war,
Let me enter.
If my brother’s blood is shed,
Shed mine too.
If my brother is scarred,
Be sure to scar me.
If my brother’s life is taken,
Take mine as well.
We adore our sisters,
We love our mothers,
We follow our fathers.
My heart belongs to my brother.”
~ Common warrior oath
“I am a Proud One.
I pride in my sister,
She sits beside me.
I pride in my mother,
She birthed me.
I pride in my father,
He leads me.
I pride in my brother,
He protects me.
I pride in my mate,
He adores me.
I pride in my tribe,
They embody me.
I pride in myself,
And in my abilities.
My pride is strong,
Strong as my abilities.
And my pride is loyal,
Loyal to them all.
As all my prideful tribe,
I am a Proud One.”
~ Wolva chant
Loyalty is expected from each wolvdrachen to the next. Between mates, a stronger sense of loyalty and bonding is found. It does not matter if one hates that one wolvdro or that one wolva, in the end they are still part of the pack and still part of the brotherhood. If that brother or sister was in some kind of trouble, even if that one disliked them, that one would leap to do their best to deliver them from that trouble. A tribe never abandons their own and never exiles unless they must.
Betrayal on any level (to one or more brother) is highly intolerable. This can happen to one brother to another or to one and the whole tribe or even one to his/her mate. Betrayal is punishable by exile, which is considered worse than death. Exiled wolvdrachen are branded on the shoulders and banished from the tribe. If seen again, the tribe will make life even more miserable for the wolvdrachen, but will not kill them.
Once an exile one, forever an exile. An exile is not accepted by any other tribe. There have been tribes of exiles, but they are made of some of the slimiest and most malevolent wolvdrachen. Bands of exiles tend to be dangerous foes for other tribes. Exiles are known to set borders and claim lands, caves, anything and remain there and prey on other tribes. They have stolen pups and killed wolva and battled to death against warriors. An exile has no loyalty or dedication, no trustworthiness and knows no knowledge on what it takes to be a brother, and that is the greatest sin.
Wolvdrachen are also very superstitious. If a solar eclipse were to happen, they interpret it as a very bad omen for the next generation. Lunar eclipses are taken more of a good omen, also especially for the next generation. If a pup were born deaf, then the parents take it upon themselves as cursed and no longer have pups. The blind are considered special and have a further purpose in life than that of warrior ship. In fact, the blind tend to be more spiritual than the rest of their brethren, leading prayer, interpreting signs and often have dreams. Odd color fur (like no color or a sort of gray shade) usually has some kind of omen, usually good, but sometimes bad.
Because there are so many tribes, each tribe has their own unique set to superstitions and religion. Some may celebrate the skies, some the earth, some none at all.
Religion to be added
