Appearance: The B0-series battle droids are battle droids designed primarily to assist weak-bodied species in battle as well as provide locomotion. They are apparently street-legal (presuming no legal exemption for the Republic Military). They normally are directly piloted from a cockpit accessed from the back, but they can also operate as independent units and receive orders from sentients.
The creatures inside their "space droids" were most frequently Celegians, although members of other species, mainly nonhumanoids, also occupied the casings on occasion.
Externally, B0-units resembled human-sized peppershakers, with a single mechanical eyestalk in a rotating dome, a gunstick and a manipulator arm. The casings were made of durasteel/Cortosis weave armor (Cortosis was only used in the B0-D1 unit).
The voice of a B0-unit was electronic, as most nonhumanoid creature had no vocal apparatus. Their most infamous statement was "EX-TER-MIN-ATE!", with each syllable individually screeched in a frantic electronic scream. Other common utterances included "I (or WE) O-BEY!" to any command given by a superior. B0-units also had a radio communicator built into their shells, and emitted an alarm to summon other nearby droids if the casing was opened from outside.
The B0-unit's eyepiece was its most vulnerable spot, and impairing its vision often led to its main weapon being fired indiscriminately. The B0-unit casing also functioned as a fully-sealed environment suit, allowing travel through the vacuum of space or underwater without the need for additional life-support equipment.
Due to their gliding motion, some B0 models were notoriously unable to tackle stairs, which made them easy to overcome under the right circumstances. B0-D1 appears to be able to hover a few couple dozen feet high using a repulsorlift engine, or even travel under its own power like small spacecraft. The B0-unit casing has its own internal power supply, which appears to be an advanced droid power source.
The key item of B0-unit technology is the casing. The eyestalk of the casing clearly bestowed superior vision to the pilot, and the plunger-shaped attachment functions as a modified transformable scomp link which could also be used on droids to repair and reprogram them, as well as interface with other technology. B0-unit gunsticks fired a laser-like bolt of electricity capable of damaging droids and which could kill almost any sentient being, although some species have armor capable of resisting B0-unit guns.
The casing was also booby-trapped making even destroyed B0-units a dangerous foe. Furthermore, the armor contains an automated distress beacon which activates if disturbed.
Personality: B0-units are controlled by individual AIs, are capable of speech and generally exhibit an angry, curious, rude and tyrannical personality, although they are consummate professionals in the field.
B0-units had little to no individual personality and a strict hierarchy. They were programmed to obey a superior's orders without question. Ultimately, the most fundamental feature of the B0-unit AI was an unquestioned belief in the superiority of the Republic. Enemies were either to be exterminated immediately, or enslaved and then exterminated later once they were no longer necessary. The default directive of a B0-unit was to destroy all enemies of the Republic.
An offshoot of this superiority complex was their complete ruthlessness, although this is also due to the AI malfunction presented in all B0-units. It was because of this that it was nearly impossible to negotiate or reason with a B0-unit and it was this single-mindedness that made them so dangerous and why their program was scrapped. However, their reliance on logic and machinery was also a weakness, albeit one that they recognized in themselves.
B0-D1 is unique among the B0-units. After obtaining individuality when its pilot died, it began to feel morality for the first time in its existence. Motivated by emotions beyond anger and loyalty, and rejecting its own droid programming, B0-D1 manipulated its way into gaining a new life for itself. B0-D1 started to express its feelings that its programming was incompatible with its AI.
Skills: Computer Use, Security, Repair, Scramble Droid
Note on Skills: Scramble Droid can actually cause a hostile droid to fight for B0-D1, by temporarily or permanently reprogramming it.
Attributes:
Note on Attributes: Physical Strength and Speed are to be a comparison to other droids, especially mobile types. A sentient would not normally be able to compare to a droid with wheels. Unarmed and Melee Weapons are nonexistent because B0-D1 is not equipped with melee weapons and not programmed to be able to fight effectively with its ranged weaponry disabled. Intelligence, Leadership and Ranged Weapons are high because of its programming.

Bio: B0-D1 is a prototype battle droid best described as a "space-type droid/combat vehicle equipped with artificial intelligence", possessing the ability to act as both a personal transport unit and mobile weapons platform. The first of its series, D1 was sent on its first mission three weeks after creation to capture a small Sith outpost guarded mainly by droids, accompanied only by a few Republic soldiers and multiple Republic battle droids.
The mission became compromised immediately after the ship transporting the Republic squad landed, when Sith droids ambushed and destroyed the ship as the Republic squad began to depart. The Republic soldiers were killed in the initial attack, and most of the droids were damaged.
Using the B0-D1 unit, the pilot was able to repel the droid assault with the help of the other droids until he himself was killed when the B0-D1 backed into a mine. No damage was done to the unit's primary systems, however, and it survived.
After its pilot died in combat, the B0-D1 battle droid was forced to think entirely for itself in a fight against enemy droids when the remaining droids in the squad it was a part of were destroyed. The only surviving member of its squad, B0-D1 chose to continue to engage the enemy and finish the fight on its own.
B0-D1 managed to outmaneuver and defeat the few enemy droids left on its own. After accomplishing this feat, and with communication to the Republic being jammed, B0-D1 decided to continue the assault and complete the mission on its own. After repairing and reprogramming the fallen droids on both sides of the initial battle to follow its commands, B0-D1 led them on a bold assault on the outpost.
First, B0-D1 sent in the Sith droids, under the guise of the Republic having been totally defeated and the droids returning for maintenance and debriefing. While the lead droid went off to debrief the sentient in charge of the outpost, the others went to maintenance, where they managed to take control of the area without raising any alarms.
Using the security codes obtained from the enemy droids it reprogrammed, B0-D1 easily obtained entrance into the enemy outpost with the repaired Republic droids. Simultaneously with this, the reprogrammed Sith droids used the terminals in the maintenance room to alter the security measures for the facility, turning the internal security against the sentients in charge.
B0-D1 and its droids, both Republic and reprogrammed Sith, then made easy work of the leftover droids while the internal security killed off any sentients in the outpost. The lone reprogrammed Sith droid that had been sent to debrief the one in charge of the outpost held him hostage until B0-D1 and its droids made their way there.
The mission a success, B0-D1 stopped the jamming of its Republic signal, and contacted its superiors to debrief them on what happened. While it waited for the Republic to come and pick it up, B0-D1 repaired the Sith droids that had been destroyed in the attack on the outpost in case any Sith showed up, which they did.
B0-D1 successfully held off Sith reinforcements and captured a few additional prisoners aside from the outpost leader. The fight lasted until Republic reinforcements came, at which point the Sith reinforcements surrendered.
Rather liking how it all turned out, B0-D1 chose to neglect to mention its pilots death. The pilot had no family to speak of, and no one would truly miss him if he were gone. With a little clever hacking back at the Republic base during repairs, B0-D1 managed to assign its deceased pilot as its permanent owner/pilot.
Masquerading as Fog, its former Celegian pilot, B0-D1 has since then completed numerous missions over the past five years, even raising Fog's rank to the of Captain in the Republic Army. To communicate as Fog, B0-D1 uses an installed holoprojector to make it seem as if Fog is still alive and actually inside B0-D1.
Fog hasn't been seen in person since his undiscovered death, to which he (as B0-D1) blames on severe wounds he received during that fateful mission. B0-D1 has even created additional systems to mimic a Celegian lifeform inside its cockpit, and sensors would show the usual Celegian life support systems inside the cockpit meant to keep his species alive. All meant, of course, to make B0-D1's story as Fog believable.
The B0-series has since been scrapped, after it was discovered that the droids had a tendency to malfunction and adopt complex personalities that were not meant for their type of AI. Less than a dozen remained active, none of which have presented with the problem (although B0-D1 is one, it is not known publicly).

There was a steady whir of an engine, gentle and not very loud. A man-sized droid hovered in place, its eyestalk looking left, and then right. After a moment, it started moving though the busy street, passing by people as it went. |
