The shadows of every world had always inspired a certain kind of primal fear in the races that looked upon them. Perhaps it was simply a sub-fear of darkness, but then it could have also been simply fear of the unknown. But the shadows were not unknown to those predatory creatures that stalked them. Used them for their own ends, generally against the very creatures that came to fear them so.
One of these predatory creatures stalked the deepest and darkest shadows that clung to the trees around the largest and most secure prisons of Kiffex. This predator was a man. Clad in armor that was blacker than the almost pitch black darkness that he moved through. Around his head a complex looking device sat securely, three stalks appearing out of the plate that went over his eyes. At the end of these stalks sat a simple looking curved lens that was used to gather the light that was visible just beyond the spectrum of light that his (semi) natural eye could see, but not fully into the thermal spectrum.
This light would then be filtered through a solid state imager, than projected onto a flexible organic liquid electronic display (OLED) screen that lie just past his eyes. That piece of technology made the simple transition from prey to predator. No longer did he have to stalk through the jungle, relying on the weaker senses that his body held. He hunted it.
A light drizzle of tiny rain droplets soon plummeted towards the jungle like thousands of soldiers charging a defensive wall. The pitter patter of each one smashing against the leaves were like those soldier's swords clashing with the bastion's walls. The creature named Delta paid no heed to the otherwise soothing cacophony, however, his RELIC chip wouldn't allow it. Oceanic blue eyes blinked behind the night vision goggles, taking in every single detail like a dry sponge would take on water. The grey matter behind those sparkling blue orbs worked to process each bit of information, just as it had for the past thirty six hours, fourty five minutes, and thirty seven seconds.
During that time he had been scanning over every last detail of the prison. Its circular stone wall was in obvious disrepair: a consequence of improper funding no doubt. This would make it relatively easy for the man to both scale and penetrate the once thought "impenetrable" fortress wall. Next came the guards on the wall, the walkway of which looked to be about the width of four men standing shoulder to shoulder. Every five minutes and thirty seven seconds, give or take two or three, the two guards would pass each other on a patrol route on the wall... and have their backs turned for approximately two minutes and five seconds.
That was when he'd strike.
Delta crept to the faulty part of the prison defenses with the haste of a sloth, making every single motion and muscle movement as deliberate as if he were working on a boat-in-a-bottle. He would halt behind a tree after even the slightest noise created by his foot fall, and it would take him nearly an hour to move twenty feet... each passing second counting like a giant timer in his mind.
Unfortunately, he couldn't move up the wall with the same deliberate sloth. It would mean that he'd either make an insane amount of noise, his muscles would tire and he'd fall, or he'd move too slowly and the guard that made their rounds about the circumference of the base would find him.
So, after waiting the proper amount of time, he climbed up the small footholds of the wall until he was at the lip... simply waiting for the first man to come by. Delta's prey would see the world through darkness and noises, possibly illuminated by the occasional spotlight that sliced through the blackness like a sword through cheese. Delta saw the world through a trio of eyes, each of them casting a vibrant green hue on the environment.
Those poor bastards didn't stand a chance.
