Bio: Beginning
Devon's parents Aven and Salest where normal hard working people on the planet of taris, they had a small hotel they would sell out to travelers who frequented by on the middle levels of taris. After Aven got involved with the Hutt Zax to try and raise a better income for his family things went all wrong. Aven began to develop a gambling problem and at one point had bitten off more than he could chew, his hotel was stripped from him and his wife stolen by the hutt thugs of the lower levels to be a slave, little did they know before this occurred Devon was growing within her womb. Salest did not know what happened to her husband, although what had happened was he was killed by the thugs for attempting to seek aid to help his wife and UN-born son. Salest was stripped down and began a personnel slave to the hutt, but as the time went by it became obvious she was pregnant, at first the hutt was going to kill her but then saw the idea of having the child and just gaining another new free slave, possibly wanting to make it an assassin was his plan. Thus Devon was born into the world, being held in a poorly made back-room of an underground cantina. His life as a baby was rather UN-eventful as he had no seems of doing anything, though his mothers face he remembers feeling was soothing break from the other noises around him. It was at the age of just turning 3 when his life wold take a turn, two Jedi had been sent on a mission to speak with Zax as there was rumor he was aiding and abetting in the capture of a Jedi to aid a known dark Jedi fugitive at the time. During the negotiations things got violent and Devon was escaped by his mother, it was only by chance she bumped into the jedi’s as she exited the secret way to the streets, it was at this moment his force sensitivity was sensed, the mother knowing her child's life would amount to nothing but a slave here she agreed to let the Jedi take her son to be trained as a Jedi.
Youngling
As soon as his training began Devon took a natural aptitude to everything he did, the attitude of people around him he rather liked, although they all had re-occurring situations of wondering about there parents and such. He was highly devoted, although he had a reputation for not being able to hold his tongue, if someone had said something to upset him his mouth would usually say some sort of remark. It was at an early age actually his soon to be master noticed him, focused and with a great sense of initiative with using the force, border line dangerous but Devon showed great skills of self control in terms of proper situations.
Padawan
He had just turned 13 and he had seen this man many times before coming to the temple and watching the students as if constantly grading them all and judging them for some kind of selection. Master Wu a Jedi master, he was human and his age was 38, took Devon as his padawan and from there his real training began. Master Wu and Devon made a great team together but master Wu was the silent type, he only spoke when he needed and believed in the sense that you should always be ready, “Business ready, ready for business” was a saying he would sometimes sprout out. As quite as master Wu was, when he spoke it was only of training to further develop Devons skills, but it wasn't uncommon for the master to give orders to devon in certain situations that would push him into a less than comfortable situation for him, though his master saw it as a sink or swim method.
The masters method was to keep him close to the edge but under a tight leash as in watching him. As he reached 16 it showed that Devon had great skill in following his teacher's methods of understanding the Force abilities and their use, he gained a lot of experience during these times. How ever master Wu believed strongly in the ability of using your light saber, he outright refused Devon to carry any pistol, he showed him the basics of using one but told him, that trust in your light saber breeds trust in yourself and breeds trust in the force. The relationship between master Wu and Devon got stronger though, as Devon always saw him as a teacher, not as a father figure or else because master Wu was ever so strict. As he was older he began to understand how beneficial the strictness upon him was for growth, although it did at certain times make him feel he was being kept in line, what was he being held back from learning.
His master also believed when training in forms, to master which ever you choose before moving on, nothing left undone was his style of thinking which he imparted onto Devon. Devon was not the most intelligent of people, in terms of using brain power as his asset or force abilities as a thinker, although gaining skill in the ones focusing on use of the light saber and or the force abilities in which granted him better use in combat. The force power connected to the body made the most sense to Devon. Although he learned what he was taught, he seemed to develop a sort of niche for the right abilities which suited his fighting method, although trained in the normal form of shii cho , he developed a great liking of the ataru form, as it utilised his speed and flexibility as a jedi, and also complemented on his favoured force abilities. Although he favoured his light saber very highly his master also believed that a method without it must be learnt, his master was anti pistols of any form of shooting, seeing it as a uncultured form of fighting, so focused mainly on his other two abilities, melee weapons and unarmed, focusing mainly on unarmed as a second option for combat.
Although a different stylist himself his master could for-see the style which Devon seemed to favour, a more acrobatic style and fast speed base in combat, which is why he got Devon to be training and focusing so much on Shii cho and Ataru, Niman was a form that master Wu favoured and taught to Devon as an extra to throw into his skills and teach him the meaning of being skilled in just a few forms but having a basic understanding of as many was a great advantage.
Force sensitive?
He was 19 at the time and the mission was told to Devon by master Wu, they where to go to Tattione and retrieve a jedi artifact that somehow ended up in the sand peoples hands by what means was un-known. Master Wu waited for his padawan at the shuttle entrance, he was always especially early, at that moment Devons comm activated, “Devon, where are you, we have been ordered to make haste..”
. At that moment Devon had just finished strapping on hist belt and came around the corner in a half dressing fast paced walk, “Sorry master, I think my suit has shrunk..i should lay off those corlian meat pies” . Devon smirked at his comment as he knew he was in perfectly good shape, but his smirk quickly faded as he saw his masters usual emotionless expression towards devons comment. Devon flipped his hood over and entered the shuttle.
The flight was quick and they landed near a cave entrance on the out-skirts of the city, they had the location of the sand peoples hide-out as the artifact sent out a force signal to a higher member of the council. As they landed they walked out into the desert like planet as the winds began to slowly pick up. “The hide-out is 2 miles from here, keep your wits about you Devon, be mindful of your surroundings and keep your thoughts on the task at hand”. The master always spoke to him as if it was his first time, it annoyed Devon alittle as he felt like he was constantly being reminded he was not yet a jedi knight, though he held his masters words in very high respect and nodded, “Yes master” .
As they walked through the sand dunes side by side, Devon searched through his feelings, keeping himself aware of the force around him, it was at that exact moment they both froze there walking in a split second. Before even the master could alarm Devon to it by saying “Snipe…!” Devon had ignited his saber and just in the nick of time deflected a blaster shot from a distant sniper. At that moment the gargling growl of the sand people roared up as some leapt from the rock faces around them, some even leaping up from the sand in a battle cry, it was an ambush. A sand person roared up from the ground infront of devon and used a heavy slash at his feet, surprised as he was Devon leapt back in an display of great acrobatics landing on the rock face nearby him, where he landed were two sand people and with a smooth motion, twirled around slicing both sand peoples heads clean off. Master Wu leaped straight into the emerging crowd before him of around 3-4 sand people, deflecting blaster bolts from his rock face side and entering melee combat.
It was at that moment again Devon felt it, and it also had not slipped his mind, the sniper! he thought to himself. Seeing master Wu was involved in out-numbered combat, before jumping he focused quickly with telekinesis on a head sized rock slinging it in the direction of master Wu’s mid section, seconds before hitting master Wu’s mid section side the rock flew and exploded, intercepting the sniper shot. Immediately after tossing the rock, Devon leaped from a nearby rock dodging incoming blaster shots and used the momentum to do a front flip landing on the other side of the rock face, on master wu’s side. With great finesse he sliced his blade in an X shape pattern, removing both hands of the sand people shooting, they snarled in pain as Devon used a force push sending them tumbling down the other side of the rock face to there deaths.
Devon turned at that moment to see Master Wu finishing off his enemy's, another group heading towards him from another nearby cave hole, devon knew master Wu would be fine and focused on taking out this sniper. He leaped to another nearby rock, or what seemed to be a rock but was made of mud like sand. As he landed softly it collapsed under him, and he slipped falling down towards the sand ground and dropping his saber. He was falling towards his back but with quick thinking twisted his body landing in a cat like stance. At that moment a sand person swung and surprised him from behind swinging down with a hand made spear at Devon, he rolled to the side avoiding the attack by inches. He got to his feet just in time as another swing came for him, he leaped to the side of the rock face to avoid the attack and used his leg to push off the wall and slam a kick at the sand persons head, sending him toppling over.
Unarmed and unable to find his lightsaber amidst the combat and sand, he had no choice but to use his other skills. The roar of more sand people came up as they rushed around from behind to try corner the two, ”Uhh..master alittle trouble here!!” Devon said as battle waged around him and saw more coming towards him with spears and blasters. One sand person leaped at him as devon, grabbed his arm slamming a punch directed at his elbow breaking the sand persons arm, he felt the sense at an instance once again, the sniper shot came and Devon spun around just in time as the shot went through the sand persons head he had broken the arm of and grazed past his face, sizzling the first layer of skin off.
Master Wu at that moment came back to back with Devon as the sand people had seen going melee to melee with these people wasn't working they had cornered them into the dune cavern they where in and fired blaster shots. , ”Get your light saber!!!” master Wu yelled at Devon, as devon avoided blaster shot after blaster shot by mere inches. He swallowed his fear and his eyes squinted as he entered a state of concentration. He ran to the cliff face leaping off it in an acrobatic twirl, blaster shots going all around him, he landed behind the small group of sand people and sent out a force push as they all fall forward some dropping there blasters.
At that time the glint of Devons light saber hilt caught his eye, AGAIN the sense of the sniper shot, he held out his hand and the hilt struggled to be lifted from the sand, he concentrated hard and it flew to him, moments before entering his hand it was ignited and and shot was deflecting once again, the saber now held tightly in devons focused grip.
The sand people got to there feet and growled as they rushed devon in rage, with graceful like motions he advanced into the small group slicing and swinging in his preferred form of ataru. As the last sand person was standing , Devon saw master Wu rushing off towards a heightened sand dune, the place devon had sensed the shots coming from. Devon then dispatched the last remaining sand person and looked around at the carnage, but only for a moment keeping his focus as he ran off towards master Wu’s location.
When he arrived he saw the body of the sniper on the ledge of the dune with a burn mark through its heart, and master Wu looking down over the edge of the high sand dune at what seemed to be the sand peoples location. , ”They were expecting us…somethings not right” , Devon spoke his thoughts as they both lay down on the dune peering down at the what looked to be abandoned camp site. ”You will scout the left tents I will scout to the right” master Wu said as his eyes surveyed the camp site. This was a classic example of how Devon was pushed into uncomfortable situations, moments after avoiding death, his master now would send him on his own, but Devon not once ever spoke his fears or dis approval of a situation, ”yes master…so this artifact…what am I looking for?”. A deserved question but his master just looked at him a moment, ”That which does not belong seems out of place, does it not devon?...use the force…trust what you feel”, armed with not much more than advice, they made there decent down the dune face to opposite sides of the camp to begin searching the tents, devon was very much on guard as he was surprised that no people were here but also the battle previously so close had not alarmed any possible residents here.
As Devon walked around peering his head into tents and keeping his surroundings aware to him he came to a tent where he felt something, about to alert his master before remembering he was very much on his own here. He peered his head into the tent and saw what seemed to sand person holding on to a covered wrapped up form of a baby. Devon walked in looking around the whole small tent.
Devon had heard sand people before but this one spoke as if it was begging him, not a roar but a lowered garble as if pleading. Devon made a step forward placing his hands up to let her know he meant no harm, ”I mean you no harm..its alright…”. It was at that moment he felt it, very strange indeed it was coming from the same spot as the sand person female. He could feel the swirling of the force coming from what she was holding, the he heard it, a baby like garble of a sand person baby from the garment wrap she held. Devon could feel the force emitting from it, ” a force sensitive sand person?...” , he mumbled to himself in complete shock, this was the artifact? He questioned himself.
He watched the sand female a moment as she seemed to gargle and snarl in a plead like fashion, at that moment master Wu flipping open the tent sides and entering in a determined like fashion, “it can’t be..”, he murmured aloud before regaining composure. ”This is a baby master…not an artifact…”. Master Wu looked at the two sand beings awhile as if thinking before speaking, ”We have our orders devon, go and ready the ship for take off, I will communicate with this woman via my translatorcomm” . Devon paused a moment before following orders, confused by this he left the tent making way towards the ship and doing as ordered.
About an hour later as Devon sit in the shuttle pondering why would the council say an artifact and send us to retrieve a baby, master Wu walked up the ramp holding the sand baby in the garment in his hands, an emotionless look on his face as always, ”master…”
, before he could finish the master spoke over him, placing the baby in a safe harness in the ships interior, ”We must head back to the council immediately, set course”. Devon was used to the short and simple instructions of his master and obeyed as usual, setting course for home. As they flew, he noticed the master rather silent, watching the baby and looking in deep thought, perhaps the master was just as confused as devon but he would never speak it, he was a true jedi in that way, following every order the council would give like it was his life's oath.
They landed and exited the shuttle as the Master turned to Devon, ”I will bring this to the council now, if they require to speak with you I will contact you by comm..” he spoke plainly, and seemed rush as if he was eager to get this sand child to the council, before turning to go he turned to face Devons confused but obliging face, ”You fought well today, I see that you are learning from my tutelage..but remember there is always growth..never feel you have mastered anything, for in that thinking brings arrogance…go now and meditate on todays occurrence, we will speak of what your feelings are later”. With a short explanation he turned and walked off towards the council chambers, Devon trusted his master and respected him as many jedi did for being loyal to the jedi cause and never questioning orders, but Devon had this in him, he wanted answers and at this point he wasn't given any. He did as instructed and headed to meditate, feeling he had somehow mastered his fear for the day, facing grave danger, he felt it for the first time, a sense of power, two against eighteen kind of thinking. It was from here which began his true understanding of “With Great power comes great responsibility. And it was at the same time this brought questions about the council, why would they lie and send us on a mission, the baby was no artifact, why would they with-hold the truth after we risked our lives?, he would wait until after to hear the truth…
Many missions and situations master Wu and Devon had been through together but at the age of 23 and only a short time away from his trails, the mission that would change everything in Devon's life happened…
Death of Master Wu
The mission was supposed to be a clean cut one, head to the outer rim and free some diplomats from a pirate cruiser, although it was actually devon who sensed something in the force that all wasn't as it seemed. Gaining entry to the vessel was easy enough as they got aboard as the negotiators of the ransom they required, upon entering the vessel it was very certain something was wrong, the vessel was lined symbols of a dark jedi cult. Upon entering the main control room a darkly hooded man stand with his acolytes surrounding him, a bunch of followers obviously under the command of one such one.
It was at this moment Devon truly understood how little he knew of his master, he the hooded figure turned around slowly and removed his hood to reveal a face, veins of yellow across it and his teeth a bitter unclean color, though strangely he resembled master Wu in a strong way, “Greetings brother”, it was these words that made devons eyes blink and turn his head and look at his master. At this moment two more acolytes walk up behind them with guns aimed at there back and they chuckled as there evilly planned trap comes into fruition. Master wu’s face was quite emotionless to the events here but devon knowing him could sense some UN-easiness in him.
Devon felt the telepathic hint to spring into action, as both there light sabers ignited simultaneously they sprung into action, twirling back and slicing the acolytes hands off with the gun at his back and master Wu doing the same, the acolytes all leapt into battle as laser bolts flied at them. With great skill and team work Wu and Devon dispatched all of the acolytes, all the while the dark jedi man just smirking and watching them. The man looked at them in guard stance and smiled looking to Devon, “Your student has skill wu….perhaps he has intelligence…join me boy…have all the power you ever wanted….i sense your fear….use it!!!” his snarl was followed by his red saber igniting and leaping forward at master Wu, Devon brought his saber up to defend a slash a him as he came forward but was slammed by a chain of lightning to his chest and went flying into the wall hitting him hard. A massive battle between Wu and the dark jedi took place, Devon only took a few moments to regain composure from the hit, he leaped to the side of the dark jedi to join his master in battle, the dark jedi easily twirling and defending each attack.
He had seen his master fight before but his face was twisted, as if fighting with hatred against this dark jedi, the more he snarled the more the dark jedi smiled. His master got sliced as the saber cut into his side, quickly following lightning smashed his body and he was out of action for a moment, the dark jedi obviously very powerful turned on Devon, using everything he had to defend, the dark jedi smiled and laughed growling with each strike, as Devon fall down to one knee and prepared for the final strike upon him, the dark jedi slammed down on his parry snarling and pushing the saber closer and closer to his face, before pausing a moment the saber inches from his face, Join me….power can be yours” In almost a snake like hiss he spoke.
Devon pushed against his block with everything but the dark jedi was so strong and in control, “You..wont…have…me” Devon said, struggling to sentence the word under the strain. He leaped back and with both hands slamming Devon's body with lightning, making him convulse, a grey streak of hair forming in his hair, then pausing as master Wu leaped into battle once again after regaining himself. Devon was twitching and struggled to get to his feet, but his body was still contorting from the shock of the previous attack as he watched helplessly until he could regain his body movements, the two battle, brother against brother, now both snarling and growling as they fought, master Wu fighting with a strength Devon had not seem him use before, he had given in to something.
Wu battled and the fight seemed fair, it was at an opportune moment as Wu lay locked in a parry with his brother and they spoke, Devon felt his masters message in his mind, “Devon..you must defeat him…I cannot kill my brother..” feeling his masters weakness and as the held block they had seemed to be being won by the dark jedi, Devon used the force and his light saber came sliding to him as he had dropped it before. With a focus he had not felt before he threw the ignited light saber as it twirled he focused on sending it to the back of the dark jedi. The dark jedi brought his light saber up for the final strike as Devon's light saber swung and sliced straight through the middle of the dark jedi, his body fell into the two parts, life leaving his face.
Devon struggled to his feet and stumbled over to his master, who was just recovering also but looking into his brothers face, Devon had never seen his master like this before. Master Wu his eyes bloodshot from the battle looked to Devon, with a bruised hand he held out his light saber handing it to Devon, “I can train you no more….go” his words as short and strict as ever, but devon blinked, “Master we must go…” before he could finish master Wu snarled at him in a rage, “GOOOOO!!!!!!!” As he stumbled off UN-sure of what was happening he made his way towards the pod they came in, as he sped away the vessel exploded in a massive explosion causing debree to go everywhere , it seemed master Wu could not live with the fact of what had happened and he had succumbed to some level of darkness in his own self during the fight he could not live with, he headed back home to confer with the council.
Graduation
Devon explained what had happened on the vessel and also explained how the dark jedi seemed to be his brother, the council was in a debate wether or not devon was truly ready for the graduation towards the rank of knight as a high amount of confusion and aggression from his previous battle remained with-in him. He was ordered to under go counseling to deal with the situation before it would be reconsidered again. The loss of his master was not such a mental problem to deal with but more a sense of confusion, although it did still pain him deeply, the person who trained him to become the man/jedi he was today was dead.
Although Devon had a natural nack for opening his mouth at in-appropriate times as a method to try and throw people of there natural state of thinking, he was some what of a chameleon like character, after time he sort of mimicked his masters kind of behaviour. He was more silent and only spoke when the situation arose, though some in the council saw this as growth itself. Although many thoughts never left Devons mind, he answered them either his own way or during a new experience.
The council had agreed upon graduation, a passing of graduation of flesh for dealing with his master's death as they could see how it left him some what changed but still determined towards the jedis cause and way.
The trail of courage for standing in battle with the more powerful dark jedi. Which showed devons use of light saber skill and in-combat quick thinking and reaction.
The trail of spirit for obeying his masters wish to leave, although confused he could for-see into his masters wish for him to leave, how master Wu would have felt such disgrace and falling from giving into the dark side, a life's work gone in a moment, although it showed in himself and truly awakened the answer in Devon of how easy it was to fall.
The trail of skill for defending against the dark jedi until master Wu recovered himself, and delivering the final blow of a very skill-full manevour of a light saber throw.
One thing Devon felt was un-answered questions, he almost felt like a chapter had gone un-written. He knew there was more to the story about his quiet master and was determined to find out what, he kept his curious mind to himself but he was going to make it a personal goal to find the truth behind everything that had happened on that vessel and who his master truly was. It was as if his whole life revolved around something he was taught to understand but could not see the deeper meaning, he was always told with time and patience understanding comes but his inner voice was calling for answers. The life before this even, who was his mother?, where was she now, Devon knew all to well the dangers of looking into your own minds eye, but he was determined to close a chapter of himself before he truly feels he can continue progressive and good training.
Devon then at the age of 23 was awarded completion of his trials and given the rank of knight, although a somewhat changed Jedi, more quiet and with in his own thoughts, he was still determined to continue and grow his arts... his future had truly just begun...

RP Sample: It had been some time since his dreams had no had some form of troubled sleep, he had been struggling with meditation recently although he would never speak up of it. His self training had been good recently although recently he had noticed he has become alittle bit of a loner, he doesn't mingle as much as he used to, his usual wittiness replaced with a strong determination to hone his skills, and now with the rank of knight he truly felt he could be gaining more of the knowledge he craved to have.
A dangerous path craving something is, his master always said, but a healthy appetite was something he always had. He had been given some short leave after the recent events and was told he would be required shortly so to take some free time, although he had only spent it in the Jedi temple, not wishing to give his mind a moments rest as worried as what kinds of things he would face in his own image...
