Bio:
Syna Sylvan was born to upper class parents on Carida. Her father was a politician and her mother was a businesswoman. She had a single brother who was 18 and enrolled in the Caridan Military Academy. Her family gave her many luxuries after her birth, like nannies, nutritious baby food and a beautiful crib. The best spot at the best school was promised to her, she had a palatial room to sleep in, her every need as a baby was catered for. Her parents, especially her mother, took advantage of the mercantile nature of the Caridans to find the best deals on the best equipment for Syna and her many possessions. While there were a few close calls, Syna never really suffered any accidents that little babies seemed to be prone to. Even if she had, her parents had the best medical care available for her. Unfortunately, during her early years, her father spent a lot of time away from home in political rallies and managing election campaigns.
Syna eventually came of age to go to school. Her somewhat secluded lifestyle up to this point lead to her having a bit of trouble in school, especially with the other children who, unlike her, had lead quite open lives until then. After complaining to her parents (in as coherent a fashion as a six year old could manage) that she didn't like school. Her parents, instead of trying to persuade Syna otherwise, pulled her out of school and instead hired some of the best tutors they could find to give her an education at home. This move meant the only world she really knew of was the one with her parents and the occasional tutor telling her how to do very simple maths, or how to write Basic, or how to draw. It was a very sheltered life. Her father began to spend more time at home during this time, although he rarely got the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Syna. The only other person she had to talk to was her brother, who visited only on special occasions, but made sure he made time to talk to his sister. They discussed her dreams and what she wanted to do in the future, Syna wanted to be an adventurer, someone who was famous, her brother just smiled and agreed with her. Even though he was the member of the family that she saw the least of, Syna felt a very deep connection to her brother.
While she began to excel with her lessons, her lifestyle was becoming progressively more sheltered. The older she got, the more her parents decided to leave her at home instead of taking her outside. She didn't appear to mind. Her achievement with academics led her mother to spend time talking about how successful a career in business could be, Syna became more convinced when her mother went into detail about the huge profits involved. Soon, her dreams of being famous were dismissed as "childish" and "unrealistic" and she began to aspire to be just like her mother. Her brother, who was visiting less and less now, due to his time at the academy coming to an end, frowned when Syna revealed that she had changed her mind for what she wished to do in the future. He attempted to explain that they weren't really her dreams, but her mother's, it sounded disturbingly like he was speaking from experience, but Syna wouldn't listen, partly because she believed she was an independent person and partly because she didn’t believe her brother, who pursued a military career and rarely got to meet her, knew enough about her to be making judgments on how she should continue her life.
During her teenage years, Syna continued with her sheltered lifestyle and her academic successes. It wasn't long before she could form simple sentences in three non-Basic languages, solve complicated formulae and describe how to control a small business. Her mother continued to groom her in preparation for her becoming another businesswoman. Her father began to get more involved in politics and consequently paid less attention to his family, especially Syna. Her brother graduated from the Caridan Academy and had been called to duty somewhere on the Inner-Rim planet Ebiwaan. Eventually her parents offered her the chance to join one of the most successful universities on Carida, they told Syna it was because they wanted her to start meeting new people, however it was also because university was cheaper than the tutors. Syna attended an interview for a position in university and, after a short wait, discovered she had been accepted.
After a heartfelt and tearful goodbye, Syna left her parents and took up living in the university. Unfortunately, since she had lead a sheltered and quiet life up to this point, she didn't expect to meet people who didn't consider her their first priority. She only made a few friends who were able to tolerate her spoiled attitude. She began to study the many aspects of business.
An uneventful year passed. Syna, now 19, had begun to settle in to her college lifestyle. While not indulging in the drunken partying that her friends enjoyed, she did improve. She made more friends, and continued to improve her knowledge of the business world. Later that year, her father retired from politics. He was a much loved man and Syna was happy to attend his retirement party. However this news was upstaged the next week, with the announcement that sadly, Syna's brother had been heavily injured while saving a family of three from a gunman. His injuries prevented him from continuing his duty and the army had paid for him to be transported back to his family.
Syna was reunited with her brother at the local hospital. Their reunion was joined by their parents. Syna explained to her brother how she had gone to university since he left and was now studying business, she elaborated on how her dream to become a businesswoman was almost realised. Her brother took this badly. He berated their mother, saying that he had specifically requested Syna be given a chance to choose her future, rather than it be chosen for her. Syna could only watch as her mother was reduced to tears by her son's criticism. Her parents left quickly after that. Syna stayed and her brother explained that the first time she had told him of her dreams to enter the business world, he realised that their mother had something to do with it. He continued to say that he had confronted their mother afterwards and demanded that she let Syna have her own wishes in life. Syna finally realised that her mother really had been influencing her, and she felt upset, almost disgusted with herself for falling for it, but she was angry at her mother, especially since she didn’t stop after she was told to.
The next day, Syna returned to university and continued her studies. She was contemplating what to do. Her brother had assured her he needed no help from her regarding his situation, saying that one of his friends would help him find somewhere to live. She hadn't talked to her parents yet either. She decided she would just stay quiet for now and hopefully it would stop bugging her.
She stayed quiet for over a year, her studies kept her busy most of the time and her friends kept her occupied for the rest. Her brother stayed in touch, her parents did as well. Her brother had bought his own house near to the university. She visited him often. She continued to study business, thinking that it would be a waste if she changed her mind so late in to the course. She took her mind off other issues by studying, sometimes ignoring her closest friends in favour of learning another aspect of business.
Soon, it would be time for her to graduate from university. When the day finally came, her parents and her brother sat far apart during the ceremony. Afterward only her brother was there to congratulate her. He said her father wanted to as well, but her mother forbade him as long as their son was there.
Syna took a job soon afterwards working as a Czerka receptionist. She stayed in this position for a month until she got the news that her mother had died from a sudden heart attack. Syna attended the funeral and afterward was read her mother's will. Apparently, she valued Syna's efforts to succeed in the business world so much that her company, NOVA Tours, was to be passed to her, rather than to her father. NOVA Tours was a large planetary service that sent ships through many of the popular tourist spots in the galaxy, black holes, nebula fields and asteroid clusters were always good places.
Syna wasn't quite ready for this business to fall into her lap. However, she decided to tackle the problem head on, and swiftly quit her Czerka job (Which relieved her, she wasn’t quite satisfied with it) and got to work with NOVA. She used her considerable business acumen to fix a few of the company's existing problems, lack of employees was fixed by hiring a few local Caridans for a low wage, profits were increased through cheap advertising. By the end of her first year, two of the company’s major problems had been fixed. However, her relations with the workers suffered, since she didn’t have much experience with that.
NOVA encountered competition when IGTS (The InterGalactic Tours & Services) was set up on Carida. The two competed fiercely for customers, but IGTS, being the smaller business and only consisting of a small ships that flew strictly in Caridan space, constantly came up as the less popular of the two. Syna eventually set up a meeting between her and the owner of IGTS where Syna convinced her competitor to allow NOVA to buy IGTS out. The resulting increase in profits allowed Syna to expand. NOVA was no longer residing just in Carida. It bought offices in Coruscant, Manaan, Corellia and Naboo and ran tours throughout most of the Inner Rim.
During her early twenties, most of her time was consumed with managing the business. She began to form close connections to some of her employees, one, a male human very much like herself, found her quite attractive. They started dating. The relationship suffered when Syna’s work got in the way however. The company faced a lot of setbacks, business taxes, other companies and profit problems constantly plagued it, Syna spent a lot of her time travelling between branch offices. Her boyfriend, Will, followed her wherever she went. Two years after they met, Will proposed and Syna accepted. The wedding was quick and private, Syna informed her brother and her father, Will informed his family and Syna informed the company, days after the wedding, both of their families and the entire company celebrated the union.
In her mid-20s, Syna spent a lot of time on Carida with her husband, the company suffered slightly from her occasional absences but she was able to fix it afterward. Soon after she turned 28, Syna found out that she was pregnant, despite her condition, Syna continued with work, although she was stressed, the company always came first for her. After the birth, Will told Syna he would take care of the child, Syna paid for as much as she could and the child had a good start to life. Syna focused mainly on the company and consequently wasn’t able to pay much attention to the child.
At age 30, Syna was asked specifically by a senator to send a tour into one of the well-known spots in Kashyyyk space. Initially Syna rejected it, knowing that Kashyyyk space was popular amongst pirates. But the senator was adamant and eventually Syna changed her decision. Unfortunately, during the tour, pirates attacked the tour ship. They kidnapped the senator and his family and robbed the people on board of all their wealth. When the pirates left with their hostages, they detonated charges that they placed aboard the ship. Killing everyone on board, it was done purely out of malice. There was a massive media backlash, NOVA Tours was criticised heavily for the lack of security on board the ship and Syna had to deal with a lot of it. Syna attempted to make amends by compensating relatives of the dead and offering to pay the ransom the pirates were demanding. While it worked, it left the company heavily in need to financial aid. Syna sacked a lot of workers in an attempt to make ends meet, it worked, but left the remaining workers with morale issues. As a result of the incident, Syna was forced to take out a loan and pay for security to be added to every tour ship that was known to go near pirate territory.
Two years later, the company was recovering, a lot of the loan Syna used had paid off and the addition of security meant the ships could now go closer to dangerous areas in an effort to enhance the tour. The accident had made the company slightly notorious, and a large thrill-seeking audience of tourists took an interest in some of the offers, the resulting profit was helpful, but it didn’t quite offset the loss the company made from paying the families of the deceased. To fix that, Syna used what little remained of the loan money to open another branch to the company, NOVA Ship Rentals, it started off buying fighters from certain companies and renting them out to private security companies. Following a lot of success, it began to buy freighters and rent them out to trustworthy traders. This helped the company regain the image it had before the Kashyyyk incident. Eventually, the company was able to rehire a lot of its previous workers. Over time, Syna was able to refine her skills in leadership.
Two years after that, Syna made a lucrative deal to purchase two rare Starscape-class yachts. Up until then, NOVA Tours had been mainly using slightly modified Quartermaster-class ships, they had been modified from freighters to yachts, it was a very cheap and very easy transition, since freighters had a lot in common with yachts. With the new purchases, NOVA Tours got a small boost in popularity and profits increased. NOVA Ship Rentals was set to receive one of the new ships, but it was decided the Rentals were doing well enough with its current inventory, consisting mainly of freighters that weren’t used very often by NOVA Tours and Davaab-class starfighters bought from ambitious salvagers, many of which were claimed from one of the many battlegrounds left behind by the Mandalorian Wars.
The company continued to enjoy a lot of success. It went from strength to strength with Syna in charge. At age 35, Syna began to have arguments with Will, her husband divorced her and took custody of their child. Syna went to her brother and her father for help, her father used some of his retirement fund to aid Syna with the divorce proceedings and her brother gave her some helpful advice. When she turned 36, Syna was making a decent recovery from the divorce, Will quit his job, some of the workers send their regards to Syna. Some of the friends Syna had made gave her advice when they had the time, she enjoyed all of the attention and used the advice she received to keep going with her normal life.
At age 37, Syna began to concentrate mainly on her work. She received news late in the year that her father had passed away from an illness, she attended the funeral with her brother, and while she did grieve, Syna kept her focus on the company. She bought more branches, organised more tours, bought more ships, expanding the business, increasing the profits. For three years, expansion was Syna’s main goal for the company, and she achieved it.
When Syna turned 40. NOVA Tours and NOVA Ship Rentals included branches in over 20 planets, with more than 5 million credits to its name.

Syna Sylvan felt comfortable in the armchair. Around her, the office seemed quite desolate. The red carpeting was soft under her high heels, her desk was massive, made of wroshyr wood. Arranged across the top were mementos from her past, pictures of her parents, her deceased mother, her aged father and her brother. The latter stood out the most. She tilted her head back gently and smiled. Her office was the only place where she felt truly relaxed now, the world outside was far too hectic for her tastes. Outside the office she could hear muffled voices and soft noises like the rustle of paper.
The one thing that would make this perfect… She thought to herself, it was often a question she pondered. There was always one thing missing that would make this place perfect for her. For now, she thought, the perfection would be a glass of wine. In other places, at other times, perfection would be something else, like bofa fruit, a personal favourite of hers. She was snapped out of her thoughts by a light knock at the door. “Come in,” She shouted.
A thin Rodian entered, she was carrying a small stack of papers. Hurriedly, she placed the papers on Syna’s desk and left. Hmph, wouldn’t have hurt her to say good morning Syna thought indignantly. She picked up the top sheet of paper and read it. It was a request from a senator for two fighters for NOVA Ship Rentals. Syna swiftly unclipped her datapad from her dress and used it to scan her signature on to the piece of paper. She put it aside and pulled another sheet from the pile, a commission from the Kaikielius Planetary Board of Transportation, requesting that NOVA Tours open a branch office on one of the major cities there. Once again, Syna used her datapad to scan her signature on to the piece of paper and she placed it to the side. She did this for every sheet of paper in the pile.
Once she was done, she grabbed the pile and walked out of the office with it in hand. The main office block consisted mainly of numerous cubicles, each one with a desk and personal comm unit. Syna weaved between each block of cubicles, hearing speech in several different languages and seeing many different species, she felt a sort of importance knowing these were her employees and they would listen to mostly everything she asked them to do. Eventually she found the stairs leading downward and took them to the ground floor.
On the ground floor, there was a different layout, there was a large hall, at one end was a pair of automatic doors that served as the entrance, opposite them was a receptionist’s desk where three receptionists, one human, one Twi’lek and one Muun stood at it, behind them was an office where they could go for breaks. In front of them, on the desk, were two comm units. They all smiled warmly at Syna as she placed the pile of paper on the desk. She glanced at the Twi’lek and asked politely, “Could you see that each of these papers reaches their respective destinations?”. The Twi’lek nodded gently and took the papers, she glanced at the one on top, then walked in to the office behind her.
Syna smiled at the Muun and human and left, walking briskly up the staircase. She returned to her office, she found that she enjoyed the prolonged solitude, it reminded her of her childhood. Once more, she laid back in her chair and mused on what else could be the perfect complement to the situation.
