Species Name:
Kaeelumis
Species Type:
Near-human
Planet of Origin:
Kaeelim
Average Maximum age:
300 years
Age of Maturation:
Males and females both age fast at the age of 10, reaching full growth in both size and mating maturity by age 20. But, they only considers them to be adults at age 85 due to their long life. Their exterior features rarely change with time, their internal organs show the real age, though slowly.
Average Height:
Males: "6'8"
Females: "6'5"
Average Weight:
Males: 185 lbs.
Females: 170 lbs.
Notable biological features:
Kaeelumis upon first glance seem human, but that is not so. They do contain some human DNA due to the fact that they are near-humans, they retain a human like face, legs, arms, and overall first glance look. But, they however do have two wings, both are nearly symmetrical in every way, sprouting from their backs, the spot starting from below their shoulders and continuing down and the slit ending before the torso. The wings themselves come in a variety of shades, none really becoming solid colors such as blue or red, but wings have either darker or lighter versions of those colors, some Kaeelumis have been knowing to have either pure white or black wings, but both are considered to be rare. The wings themselves can be somewhat flattened, but others may notice them. Armor without slits couldn't be worn by them, the wings are too big, and even slightly flattened it is very uncomfortable, so most of the species leaves them in a more relaxed, but clearly visible.
Skin of the Kaeelumis have always been pale white to a white/tan color. The near-by star that lights their home planet is filtered by their atmosphere and it effects the skin pigmentation to be what it what it is now. But, unlike the Diathim of Iego, the Kaeelumis have no inner glow, and only appear in their natural state of winged humans. Their actual face can be somewhat angular or "aristocratic" in it's look, but other types of facial construction are possible, but an angular look is the most common. Their eyes are something that seem to vary extremely, from red to purple, many colors of the light spectrum are in their eyes, or a combination of a few. However, unlike wings, there are no pure white eyes or pure black eyes, the pupil is always visible like that of a humans. On extremely rare times, a child is born with eyes that change color. The colors end up being up to about three different colors, but the changing eyes show both force-sensitivity and royalty in their culture. Their hair color is close to that of their wing color, more so seems like black or brown if it is a darker color or white, blonde, or red for lighter wing colors.
The bone structure under their skin is hollow, as in most part avian or avian beings, but they are incredibly durable for hollow bones, and one would have a hard time breaking one, allowing the Kaeelumis take harder blows then normal humans. The hollow bones allow them to be much lighter and fly in reasonable atmospheric conditions. The reason they are around a reasonable weight for them is that they do have muscles which keep them down should their wings catch a gust without their notice, it takes them to jump and open up their wings to fly. But the muscles are no more stronger then human's muscles, but slightly heavier to keep them on the ground.
Another feature that is notable to them is that the species is resistant to most poisons and diseases that are widespread in the galaxy. Their immune system is considerably strong, and on occasion it might reject antidote, but in the first place, the disease or poison would have to be considerably strong to get past their biological defenses. One of the most common mistake is trying to tranquilize a Kaeelumis, because their immune system pumps out the tranquilizer. The one problem is that one particular item, called "death sticks", are both extremely addictive to them and they can prove fatal much sooner then for a human, cutting their life span almost in have after about six uses. There is a cure, but life span is still reduced to about 175 years.
Their average aging process is very different concerning them. They rapidly grow when they reach the age of twenty, as if it happens overnight. Before they reach that age they resemble what a 10 or 11 year-old human male or female if they had wings. Though they look in an adult form, for their species, they will continue learning. The aging process happens only internally for them, meaning they retain a young-looking outside, but their aging process effects their organs, though very slowly, it still occurs.
Number of limbs and Type:
Six limbs, counting wings, they have four normal, base-line human looking legs and arms. But, sprouting from the back, they have two wings, these wing my be considered limbs do to that the Kaeelumis using them frequently and their part in Kaeelumi culture.
Culture:
"Kaeelumis", meaning people of the sky, due to their wings much of their culture is due to their wings. They refer to themselves as Kaeelumis,or Kaeelumi for plural. It can be pronounced by basic speakers quiet easily, but it has much more meaning to the actual members of the species and part of the planet. The species it's self has a very successful trade-center and space port, and they export a few freighter, fighter, and one capitol ship. Other then that their main export is their ships, tech, and a few raw materials. They take pride in the success of their exports and they dislike to see them surpassed. Therein lies a weakness of the species, they all are proud and can be very competitive.
Their homes and cities mainly rest on the top of mountains. The cities rest evenly due to the fact they cut away section of the mountains large enough to contain fairly sized cities with starports. The cities, even at their high place have basic breathable air that most life can thrive on, including "the people of the sky". The cities seem to rest on top of clouds, as their is misting precipitation below the mountains that generate a cloud like appearance. The mountains are extremely hard to climb or reach the top without repulsorlift craft for any species without the wings available to Kaeelumis.
The land below the mist is lush with plant-life-like and partly covered with ponds and one ocean. Protecting the natural balance of the nature is something that is quiet prominent in their culture. They wish not have any more of the planet developed by companies such as Czerka and the planet central government has pushed them off on numerous occasions. Their are mines inside some of the mountains that mine for titanium strips that run through the mountains. The mining operations are maintained in a particular way and jobs are only available to Kaeelumis, so make sure that there isn't destruction of the mountains.
Their system is made up of distinct classes, they are set up in this way starting at the highest revered then going down to the lowest.
Orisabeo
Senators
Royal Advisers
Planet Warriors
Merchants/Workers
Civilians
[/ul]
The species as a whole is actually a calculating one, and because of this holds wisdom in a high regard as well, and that also places the senators and advisers high in the classes. But, the classes are not set in stone, the senators are elected on their planet, and anyone can choose to be a warrior for the planet or a merchant, or a worker. But, the King or Queen is passed down through a line from the begging of civilized living on the planet. Most of these rulers have been the most skilled at battle strategies and choices, and are the wisest of the species as a whole. The prince or princesses have their choice of who to marry, the being they marry may be of any class, and still the royalty's blood-line wisdom is passed to their children. Jedi would say it is the force which passes down the skill of wisdom, or more particularly the Midi-chlorians, the Kaeelumis have noted their explanation, but it doesn't make a difference to them or the royal line.
The senators do not have their own palaces, but have residence inside the current ruler's palace, though due to the fact that senators are elected by the people the style and personal aspects of the rooms change from the different personalities of the beings. Senators who wish to take office usually take learning courses by the teachers of the planet to have more experience. While holding office most senators can be found frequenting their studies to think. They thrive on trying to get their planet in the best position, as part of their competitive nature, they tend to go forward to extend their planet into further influence in the galaxy. But, the competitive nature stops at trying to usurp the crown. The line remains unchallenged as per custom, no senator nor any other class has planned to change the line, the line still passes down the wisest Kaeelumi, and therefor for the good of the whole they remain in power.
The most particular and strange position is the Orisabeo, which in their language means changing eyes. The Orisabeo or Kaeelumis which are born with eyes that change between three colors with emotion, that are sensitive to the force. Now Kaeelumi don't have to have the changing eyes to be force-sensitive, but the most powerful force sensitive are the Orisabeo. Of the known Orisabeo, few have been trained as Jedi or Sith, but either is possible. The Orisabeo on their home planet are nobles for life, they may not be the wisest as the crown rulers, but they tend have some of the best thinkers of the entire race. Orisabeo are trained from when they are young to be smart and cunning, a mother and father of an Orisabeo are considered to be blessed with a child like that. On occasion more agile Orisabeo are also trained to be warriors, and part of the world's personal military.
As for the other classes, they are rather simple, the warriors are the most skilled in battle or the strongest of body. Warriors are valued, due to the fact that they must send some of their forces to help with the republic war effort and intergalactic army to continually maintain their army without threatening the republic peace. The working class and civilians are the largest group, and are made up of average Kaeelumis, all are special in their own way like most different beings are, and the civilians are the most frequent Kaeelumis that travel off planet much, and earn their living by other means beside the Planetary government. Their culture also dictates before reaching their full adult status by the government they must be at least the age of 85, with such a long life, it makes more sense for them to learn and perfect themselves until that age. But, then they tend to continue to learn and focus themselves, to grow better then they would have been before.
The artwork and many other pieces of beauty is made and to show the Kaeelumi wings. Their wings are also something they pride in, and most cannot imagine being without them. Flight comforts or cools most emotions of the a Kaeelumi, but when put into space travel for extended periods they start to feel claustrophobic. They need wider spaces to let there wings out, and what is worse is being stuck in a prison cell for extended periods of time. Knowing they can't leave, it may drive them insane if they don't have much will power. They are also not afraid to use their aerial advantage in a fight, as it is much harder to hit a target that flies through the air, while the opposing creature is left on the ground. The occasions where one Kaeelumi loses their wings is a horrible event. Some have committed suicide, knowing they themselves could never feel the air on their wings, or fly across the air without aid. But others who have no wings become cold and hard from their loss, cutting off contact and taking the rest of their lives alone. The Kaeelumi never use that as a punishment, as it is too cruel for what they can imagine. As a comparison, the Kaeelumi feel about their wings as a Twi'lek feel for their leeku. If you can imagine the pain a twi'lek feels when losing leeku or part of it being chopped off, that is what it would feel like to a Kaeelumis. It is completely rational for a Kaeelumis when losing wings to go insane from the loss first, then kill themselves.
As for their attitude toward other beings without wings, they see them as inferior, most of them don't understand how they even get around. Most think their life is empty, without knowing the feeling of flight, they tend to really hide this in public. But, the belief is still there, hiding under their false mask. This belief is absent in the Kaeelumi that became Jedi or the ones that were born off planet. But, the curiosity about how they get around fast without wings remains.
Language:
Their language is made from somewhat-modified latin along with a few made up words to fill in for where latin has no words, and when said correctly it comes out in a smooth way, it sound beautiful to the average ear.
basic examples:
vromia vas - curse you
domuni- home
braatiser- brother
sismonialis - sister
abbitis- father
matris - mother
jeridi- jedi
sitaris- sith

History:
Kaeelumi developed onto the planet shortly after the planet became hospitable, after the ocean and the flora and fauna, developed. Early on they grew wings and made their homes high in the mountains. The mountains provided shelter from their biggest predator at the time. The mountains also gave them a vantage point from which they could look over all of their territory. In means of survival, and an early form of civilization they formed together into one central group. Their next step was forming communication and from then on their was a group of Kaeelumi who were the wisest, could put together hunting groups and end fighting. These Kaeelumi formed the royal line, which has continued to this day. Once they mastered their form of flying combat, the predators which once hunted them grew less and less, becoming weary of their foes who came from the sky. They developed space travel on their own by generating power from the planets wind, their first space worthy craft traveled to the two moons which circled their planet. One was just a simple planet of rocks, plains, and lakes, the rocks reflecting the nearby star's glow which illuminated it at night. The farmers on that planet tend to stay indoors to keep from the bright light reflecting off the rocks hurting their eyes. On their second moon, the entire planet is a mining operation, where their is both titanium and gem stones, but the mining operation did not have near as the success of the numerous titanium strips that ran through their home planet's mountains. They worked on their own for millenniums, slowly developing their own customs and laws. Once they obtained contact with the republic, the republic contacting them first. The Kaeelumi were feeling two things, one, that they were curious to see these beings that looked like them but without wings, and especially the ones who were very different, and two, if they should join this group. But, in the end the choice ended with them joining the republic and them receiving more technology the increased their own tech massively. Since then trade has thrived with them, and their closest neighbor the Ithorians also shared a desire to preserve nature of planets, and from a mutually shared desire, good bonds formed between their planet governments. The republic has used their planet military in most of the wars, but the bulk of their forces remained at their own planet encase the war came to them. Currently, they are unsure of if they should stay loyal to the republic or cut themselves off, the way the war goes will effect if they stay with the republic, become independent system, or join the sith as they draw closer. The Kaeelumi people watch intently at what happens in this war, and their choice is dependent on what happens to them.
