Race Name: Senaran
Location:
The Senarans hail from the planet Senara Prime,
located in the Unknown Regions beyond the Outer
Rim. They inhabit a small system of planets consist
-ing of six worlds. (Senara Prime, Senara II - VI)
Historical Background:
It is believed that the ancient Builders, the Rakata,
either transported the Senaran peoples from some
-where even deeper into Wild Space or that they
created them by means of highly advanced genetics
technology and the power of the Force. It is believed
that the Rakata at the time were already split into
two distinct groups, the "Ashlans" who followed the
Light Side of the Force, and the "Boganan", cruel war
-lords who delved deep into the Dark Side of the Force.
This theory is backed by the fact that Senarans them
-selves are split into two factions. There are those who
follow the "Old Ways" and seek to gain power through
the Dark Side (Bogan) and set out on a conquest of the
galaxy in the name of the Builders; and there are those
who wish for Enlightenment, using the Light Side (Ashla)
to spread knowledge and promote peace throughout the
galaxy.
While they still continue to share many linguistic, techno
-logical, and cultural aspects, the Ashlan Senarans and the
Boganan Senarans consider themselves enemies and do
not associate with one another - unless of course it's on
the battlefield. A fierce civil war has been going on practic
-ally since the civilization's founding on Senara Prime. They
have even gone so far as to periodically 'rename' the six
planets of their system depending on which side has the
stronger foothold - only Senara Prime remains the same.
(Ex: Senara Prime, Ashla II, Bogan III, etc.) Currently, the
Ashlan faction holds more power in the Senaran system
of planets. The division is like so:
The Ashlan Faction: Senara Prime, Ashla II - IV
The Boganan Faction: Bogan V & VI
Racial Traits & Culture:
The Senarans are a Force-sensitive, near-human race and
a rare sight in the galaxy as a whole. And even if they were
around, you might not know it. Ashlan skin tones range from
a light peachy color to a golden-bronze, whereas Boganans
tend to have pale, ashy-colored skin because of their facility
with the Dark Side. Senaran eye colors are: blue, brown, hazel,
grey and/or silver, gold-green, goldish bronze, and crimson
(although crimson-eyed Ashlans and golden-eyed Boganans
are exceedingly rare).
Various combinations of blonde, brown, and red are the most
common amongst the Senaran, the Ashlans tending towards
the lighter hues and the Boganans leaning towards the darker
ones. Senarans are sometimes born with curved, elf-like ears,
which are seen as a symbol of status since they present more
commonly in those born into the Noble caste, or even sensuality
because they are considered desirable. Senarans are also some
-times born with longer, more developed canine teeth and claw-
like fingers. These traits are considered to be symbols of battle
prowess, since they manifest more commonly in those born into
the Warrior caste.
As such, Ashlans are often confused with people of Firrerreo,
Zeltron, Hapan, or human heritage. Boganans on the other hand,
are usually confused with either humans or the Nagai (and some
-times the Ubese, if the observer has ever seen their likeness).
The Senaran people possess a powerful metabolism and immune
system, allowing them to live much longer than most near-human
species (about three hundred years) and appear much younger
than they truly are. Although it varies from person to person, a
fifty year old Senaran will only look to be about thirty years old.
As a whole, Senarans track their biological age rather than their
chronological age, making it a little easier for them to interact with
other races - it's still a little surprising to meet a fifteen year old
with the maturity of a thirty year old however.
---
The most important thing to understand about Senaran culture
(whether Ashlan or Boganan) is their society's caste system.
There are four castes: Noble, Warrior, Commoner, and Slave.
Nobles are the smallest and wealthiest caste, made up of individ
-uals who can track their family lineage many, many generations
back. The six largest Noble families preside over certain regions
of Senara Prime and are referred to as the Seraphim. This body
of aristocrats act as advisers to the royal family and assist the
Queen with her role as a figurehead of the people. They also
act as keepers of lore and usually have a high midichlorian count,
meaning that they are the strongest Force-users of their society.
Bureacrats and wealthy business owners are also considered as
part of the Noble caste, but it's mostly by proxy since they are
only just considered Minor Nobles by the ruling families.
Those of the Noble caste are bred and trained for intellectual
pursuits and the use of the Force. This makes them smarter than
the average human but of a slightly weaker constitution.
Warriors are the second-largest caste. Warriors act as soldiers,
bodyguards, and security operatives - they inforce the law and
the will of the royal family. The strongest warrior-clans make up
the fearsome Justicar, judge, jury, and executioner of Senaran
society. Those of the Warrior caste are bred and trained for
combat, giving them on average higher strength, speed, and
fortitude than that of a human.
Commoners are the largest caste and of course, the true backbone
of Senaran society. Commoners usually work for one of ruling
families, whether Noble or Warrior. This is because the Nobles
control the companies where there are employment opportunities,
and sometimes Warrior clans like for others to work for them too.
Most Commoners work in the industires of healthcare, agriculture
and/or the spice trade, weapons development, or as assistant
directors.
Slaves are the third-largest and poorest caste. Although there
are extensive laws to protect Slaves and to halt the growth of
this caste, the fact that children continue to to be born into Slave
families and that most actually like working for their masters has
kept the population of this caste pretty much right where it has
been for centuries. While the term "slave" has a negative connotation,
the Slaves of Senaran society are more like indentured servants
and enjoy the same priviledges as Commoners do. Slaves simply
hold to a simpler, more traditional lifestyle.
