Religion-
All Khavat worship Lua and Hyn, Lua is their god that raised them from the seas, and provided the land on which they live. Lua has been thought to be a many armed, twin horned Khavat. Hyn is Lua’s wife, the most beautiful example of a female Khavat one could imagine, but with a third eye place in the middle and above her other two. Hyn is said to be lost in the stars, unable to find her beloved Lua, and that is why the females of the Khavat were wiped out. On the rare occasion that a Khavat is Force sensitive, it is said that said child has been “Kissed by Hyn”- as Khavat females were commonly Force sensitive.
Many Khavat carry a pendant in the shape of a horn, a symbol of Lua, and is believed to bestow protection unto the Khavat.
The Faor: A religious sect of Khavat. These men are the most intelligent of the species, and never leave the planet. Their job is to control and maintain the only way the Khavat have of reproducing- cloning. If a Khavat wishes to be a father, they must apply to the Faor, and if allowed, take the Rite of Atho.
The Templar: These Khavat can be considered some of their greatest warriors, sworn to protect what is most important. All Templar would sooner take their life than surrender or give up. The Templar’s weapon of choice is a metal staff with a hidden retractable blade.
Government-
The Forn: The Forn is the eldest of all Khavat, and due to the species natural chemical make up, the Forn is every bit as alert and intelligent as his younger brethren. As the one with the most experience, it is only natural that he lead his brothers. What the Forn says, goes, unless contradicted by the Faonar.
The Faonar: The eldest of the Faor, this man can be considered the most intelligent of all Khavat. He also leads the sect, and such, controls the species’ ability to reproduce, and because of this, is held at equal terms with the Forn. However, if the two disagree about something, the Faonar’s decision is the final one.
Procreation-
Sadly, the Khavat are now completely male, and as such, can only reproduce through the cloners of Faor. The process to become a father is no light one, if a Khavat wishes to become a parent, he must apply to the Faor to take the Rite of Atho. If he completes the Rite, a sample of his DNA is taken, and used to grow a son- which takes two years (As noted above in maturation). A young Khavat is raised solely by his father, and is expected to be taught his species’ way by the time he reaches sixteen.
Rite of Atho-
The Khavat’s most sacred ritual, a test of both faith and skill. A Khavat must go back into the black waters of Vatnhei’s oceans, and kill either a Llon or an Ulur (See Vatnhei in Planets) with only a single weapon. After they are killed, the Khavat brings back either a Llon scale, or an Ulur lure. Once the Khavat has offered the item to the Faor, he can proceed with being cloned. To fail the Rite is a massive dishonor, and that Khavat and his house are wiped from the Faor’s databanks.
Each Other-
Most Khavat trust each other without a second thought, as without standing together, the entire species could be lost. All professions are respected, from a lowly fisherman to a Faor Templar, as each one serves a role that helps sustain each other.
Outsiders-
On Vatnhei, outsiders are watched carefully, unless they are Jedi. Due to the small amount of land on the planet, all ships must dock with Voro, a large space station that orbits Vatnhei (See Planet Section). After docked, a shuttle will transport visitors to the planet’s surface.
When out in the galaxy, Khavat are difficult to befriend, mostly because of their appearance, personality, and the stigma that surrounds them. However, due to their already strong sense of brotherhood among their own species, when they trust a person, they treat them as if they were family.
All females of any species are revered by the Khavat, as all females to them are part of Hyn. Whether they have just met or not, Khavat will bend to any females will, which many have abused and enslaved a Khavat. Any and all off planet Khavat will give their life for a female.
The Jedi-
The Khavat have a good amount of respect for the Jedi. Mostly due to the fact that the Jedi have tried to help solve the mystery of their species' female deaths. No attempts have worked thus far, but the Khavat people appreciate it nonetheless. If a child has been kissed by Hyn, and the Jedi come to take the child, they will allow the child to leave, and the Faor would offer another clone to the father. All Khavat Jedi are sent requests to have themselves cloned, as they are seen as superior in every way. Most of the Templar are clones of Khavat Jedi that did not turn out to be Force sensitive.
However, if the Khavat Jedi accepts the request, they still have to go through the Rite in order to be cloned. But they are still allowed to have their lightsaber, as that is their weapon.
Hunger-
Khavat descend from an aquatic species similar to firaxan sharks, and even after evolving, still retain a deep seeded hunger. To sedate said hunger, many Khavat eat small meals all day, which mostly consists of proteins. One thing Khavat would never turn to though, is eating anything that is or was once sentient, a massive taboo.
The Tala-
This term refers to the Khavat’s worst criminals. Known as “Blood Tooth” in Basic tongues, a Tala is a Khavat that has used his teeth to kill another person- Khavat or not. It also refers to one who has succumbed to the hunger, and eaten either a living or fallen sentient. Once deemed Tala, the Khavat is banned from Vatnhei forever, and his name is removed. All Tala are named Tala Shak afterwards, at least to the Khavat, Tala have been known to choose new names afterwards.
Armor/Weapons-
Khavat armor is known as Llontat, as it was originally inspired by the scaly plates of the Llon. Made of Vatnite, a metal only ever found in the oceans of Vatnhei, it’s fashioned into interlocking and overlapping plates that do not severely hinder a Khavat’s movement or flexibility. Strong against blunt weapons, and naturally dissipates energy, but very weak against stabbing weapons, as a blade can slip in between the plates.
Khavat weaponry is varied, but mostly are melee types. Mainly made from Vatnite like Llontats, melee staves, swords, axes, and spears are common and favorite weapons of the Khavat. Ranged weapons are considered cowardly by the Kavat, and thus, do not manufacture any.
The Khavat have a tradition when it comes to their weapons, each Khavat is trained with one type of weapon, and when he reaches sixteen, both son and father work together to forge their spirit weapon. This weapon is carried with the young Khavat for the rest of his life, and to lose or destroy their spirit weapon outside of combat or not to recover it after combat is extremely disgraceful. If that happens off world, the Khavat can not return to Vatnhei without it.
