So yeah. xD I got this game on Thursday, along with another game I may get into at another time.
The cover art is..well. It's actually pretty good. It does sort..give a sense of 'OSHI- SHE HAS A SWORD AND A DRAGON. HEAD FOR THE HILLS.' xD But maybe that's just me.
The gameplay..you've all played games like it before. To me, it's kind of a God of War wannabe. Button mashing slice 'em up with magic. But there aren't as many creative ways to kill enemies. But it's still fun to pick up and play, perfect for when you're bored and just wanna chop people up.
'Course..it has it's faults. As I expressed in the cbox, playing on 'Normal' difficulty (there is no Easy) adds a 1/3 score multiplier. So if you get no other bonuses for things like taking little damage of dismembering so many enemies, your score is chopped down to 1/3rd of what it would be. Normally, I wouldn't care, because scores are just numbers and ranks. But in Beast Rider, the score unlocks powerups for your magic, as well as other swords. And from what I've unlocked so far, they're pretty useful.
The story is that Death=Adder (For serious. His name has an = in it) has killed all but one of the Titans, the gods of..errr..Axiria. And the remainder, the Dragon Titan, patron deity of the Sisterhood that Tyris, your character, is a part of, is kidnapped by his forces. From there, she travels across the world, collecting the pieces of the legendary Golden Axe, the only weapon that can defeat ol' Equationforaname.
The reason it's called Beast Rider is because, yes, there are rideable beasts. These have a standard attack they use by pressing A, and special abilities unleashed with X or A+X. The catch is that the specia abilities drain the beast's life bar. While it doesn't make sense for some of them, such as the beast who is described as having optical stealth NATURALLY. That it uses to hunt prey. Buut it does make gameplay sense. The bad thing about these beasts is...they die really easily. Though most of the time, there's a handy beat-summoning panel nearby. And if you're good enough, you can survive well on foot. So it's ot a big deal, apart from tYris being slower on foot.
The graphics are good. They're not up to the standards of, say, Modern Warfare 2. But they're certainly not fugly. Stuff is insteresting to look at.
All in all, Beast Rider is a good game. You can just pick up and play it, and the story, as far as I am, is simple to understand. It just..sorta feels like you're playing the old game exactly as it was..but 3D. It's hard to explain.
I give it..a 4 out of 5.
