Kol Gedyc, Jedi Master Full Name • Kol Gedyc Nickname • The Hero of Yaga Minor, Haar’dul’tal’din Race • Human Birthplace • Concord Dawn Age • 34 Gender • Male Sexuality • Hetero Faction • Republic, Jedi Concept • Master, Guardian Languages • Basic, Mando’a Assets • Lightsaber - single green blade, requisitioned Aurek-class Starfighter Appearance Face Claim • Chris Hemsworth Height & Weight • 6’ 3”, 220 .lbs Overall Looks • Kol Gedyc is a tall, muscular man, standing at a full six-foot-three and weighing a full two hundred and twenty pounds. Most, if not all of that weight is well defined muscle, gained after years of hard work, staying in shape, and eating plenty of healthy foods. His blonde hair is most recently kept short, a new look that he isn't quite used to just yet. Usually somewhat spiked, or left to his own devices, Kol doesn't pay much attention to his hair, like he did when it was long and down around his shoulders. Just upwards of the scruff is a pair of eyes of differing shades, one natural and one cybernetic. The natural eye is a blue pastel color, not unlike that of cold ice, while the cybernetic eye is a bright, warm hazel. As for his body, it is not without blemish, but as previously stated, Kol takes good care of himself. The blemishes are a series of random scars from the War, chief among them a stab wound from a lightsaber, through the front and out the back of where his right kidney would be. Add to that a trio of blaster bolt burns on the back of left shoulder, and a pair of short, violent scars from a vibroblade on his right forearm, and it's clear that the man as seen more than his fair share of action. As for his wardrobe, Kol keeps things simple while away from the Temple. Most people he meets more than once swear that he owns stock in the company that makes the same plain grey long-sleeved shirt he always wears. Under the shirt he wears dark blue pants with a leather belt and a red stripe up the side of the leg. Black boots made of tough leather along with durasteel protecting the top of his foot and toes finish off the ensemble. Kol commonly wears a wine red wool trench coat that reaches down to his hips. The jacket has a pocket on the left breast and a singular row of three buttons. When at the Jedi Temple or around other Jedi, Kol relies on his formal Jedi robes. These are simple, plain, and the same sort of style as most Jedi wear. There's a brown overcloak and cream colored tunic. The whole outfit is accented by brown leather, knee high boots and a brown ulitity belt. The reason for the wardrobe change is two-fold; Kol likes a change of pace, and he feels that the robes of a Jedi set him too far apart from the common people, the people he feels he should be helping. And Kol likes being approachable. Personality Profile Kol Gedyc, The Hero of Yaga Minor, is quite simply a simple man. Slow to anger, easy to please, he tends to push down offenses deep inside, either to harden over or explode later. He's a gentle being, known to be calm and cool, even under pressure or when others are not. Kol is anything but lazy and is always finding something useful to occupy his time with. Working out, meditation, routine maintenance on his requisitioned star fighter - anything to occupy his every waking moment while in between missions for the Jedi Council. And when given a mission, he always gives it his one-hundred-percent, and makes sure things are done exactly as they're supposed to be done. This can make him a bit tunnel-visioned at times, such as when focusing on one task or goal. This tunnel-vision has even been known to keep Kol oblivious to certain things, sometimes. But his commitment and straight-forward attitude also makes the Jedi Master a bit of a natural leader. While he may not best the best person to hang around with or to spend a day out on the town with, Kol is nonetheless compassionate towards those he's grown close too, and to prefers to let his actions speak for him in these instances. Truly, he can be a good friend, loyal and understanding, with a talent for listening and saying what you need to hear. Those that have gotten to know Kol have sampled his rather straightforward humor, dry at times, and including quite a bit of gentle teasing. Once he committed himself to the Jedi Code, Kol found it hard to live his life any other way. But still, like anyone else, the Jedi Master isn't perfect, and still has his faults. Relationships are a particular issue. Yet at the same time, Kol keeps very little belongings and would rather give away all he has in order to help someone else who is in need. Honesty is another issue, as Kol has kept his family ties a secret for the last seven years and has become a rather apt liar because of this. All that being said, Kol really is a good man, and strives to be so every single day. He hates seeing innocent people downtrodden on, used by those who would see themselves as superior. He always tries to stick up for the "little guy", as it were, even if it means sacrifice on his part. He's generous, has a guilty conscious that can be hard to come to terms with sometimes, and always seeks what justice he can find. He can be stubborn to a fault, holding fast to his morals and what he determines is right and wrong. Kol always prefers to take action when he can take action or feels he needs to take action, rather than sit around and deliberate, often without consulting those around him. If they are consulted, they are more told how things are going to play out, especially in the heat of the moment. Kol always has a plan, a plan he always thinks is right, and doesn't just stop when his plan doesn't work. And he hates the moniker that a few within the Republic military bestowed upon him during the War. "The Hero of Yaga Minor". In Kol's mind, he was only doing his duty, as he covered for a massive retreat. In his mind, there are far more worthy bearers of such a title who never made it off of the battlefield. The problem is that the Jedi Master is too polite to say anything about it. When he hears the name, he grimaces, smiles, and moves on with his life. It's been so long since the events of Yaga Minor that he doesn't bother to fight it anymore. Kol carries with him a lot of baggage from the past. Part of pushing pain and hurt deep down and not dealing with it involved doing the same to some of the most traumatic experiences in his life. Namely, experiences centered around the War. Kol lost the only family he had ever know, friends, and those under his command. Though he deals with it well on a daily basis, the War still left more than physical scars. And that being said, he fears for the next war that will come. Kol is of the mind that the Galaxy is too small for both the Jedi and Sith to live peacefully, and he believes the current peace is nothing more than a stalling tactic as the Sith reorganize and regroup. Nonetheless, Kol keeps his focus on the present as much as he can. He spends much of his time on planets that rest on the Republic's border with the Sith Empire, helping in any way possible to rebuild those planets. The Jedi Master helps by delivering supplies such as food, medicines, and construction equipment. He helps fend off raiders and pirates who would harm these still weak settlements. And sometimes, Kol even helps with the construction itself. Although he always comes when called by the Jedi Council, he almost marches to the beat of his own drum, and spends little time at the Temple these days. Helping those on the border helps him as much as it does them. The Jedi Master is naturally talented and quite skilled with a lightsaber, which is chief among the reasons he elected to follow the path of a Jedi Guardian during his training. He is proficient in many forms, such as Soresu, Niman, Shien, and Djem So. Being skilled with so many forms lets him mix techniques and switch styles on the fly based on the situation. When it comes to using the Force itself, Kol is particularly talented with being able to sense the environment and beings around him and using the Force to enhance his own physical attributes, though like all Jedi he had training in multiple areas of Force power. When it comes to more martial skills, Kol can handle a blaster enough to defend himself, as well as his fists, and is a rather good pilot. He's generally smart, good with numbers, and enjoys puzzles. But the man's true talent lies in his expertise for engines, reactors, and nearly all things mechanical. Often, he jokes about being given two pieces of durasteel and some fuel, and giving you a serviceable starship in return. While that may be an exaggeration, it isn't far from the truth. Background Father • Oberon Talzuk, Jedi Watchman, Deceased Mother • Lyra Gedyc, Mandalorian Warrior, Deceased Siblings • Shandi Kelborn, Mandalorian Mercenary & Half Sister, 37 Other Important Connections • Celara Kandral, Jedi Master, Previous Romantic Interest, MIA Overall History • Kol Gedyc was the second of two illegitimate children born to a very strange couple. Oberon Talzuk was a Jedi Master and Watchman of Concord Dawn. He was also Kol's father. Kol's mother was a Mandalorian warrior by the name of Lyra Gedyc, a member of Clan Kelborn. Their first child, a daughter by the name of Shandi, had been adopted by one of Lyra's friends due to Oberon being a Jedi. Kol, however, had a special issue - He was Force sensitive. His father could sense it before the boy was born. Oberon and Lyra both agreed that the soonest Kol was born, he was to be shipped off to Coruscant, to the Jedi Temple, for training. Both the mother and father hoped that would put some needed distance in their family ties, so that the couple were not discovered. So once Kol was born in Oberon's small residence on Concord Dawn, Lyra took the boy to Coruscant herself. Once there, the Jedi let her into the Temple, and she surrendered her son to them, giving him her last name. That would be the last time Kol would ever seen him mother, no more than a few weeks old. Kol was raised in the Jedi Temple just as normally as as any other youngling. He was always tall, and always large, which gave him somewhat of an advantage in lightsaber sparring. Excelling in this aspect gave him something of a friendly rivalry with another human youngling - Cal'sorin Malgrae. Cal'sorin and Kol would harass each other all the time, but they were always the best of friends, and it was always well meaning. Another friend that Kol made was a Zabrak girl named Celara Kandral. The three of them were all part of the same youngling clan - The Katarns. Celara was always willing to help Kol and Cal'sonn out with their studies, but she tended to chide the two of them when they would waste their spare time. But in all reality, the three were as good as friends as any that could be found, and were nearly inseparable during their formative years with the Jedi Order. Nearly, at least, until they were preteens. That's when everything changed. Celara was chosen to apprentice under a Consular and prominent Jedi Healer, when the trio turned eleven. Cal'sonn was chosen as an apprentice himself not long after. Soon Kol was left by himself at the Temple. Not completely by himself, as there were other younglings and he was friendly with everyone. But his best friends were out, gallivanting around and becoming Jedi while he was still stuck at the Temple, hoping a Jedi Knight or Master would come along and choose him as an apprentice. But with his constant inquiries to the youngling instructors, it seemed that there were just not enough available Jedi willing to take on an apprentice. As Kol's thirteenth birthday drew ever nearer, he feared he'd get washed out of the Order and sent to one of the various Corps that the Jedi helped maintain. Soon enough, the boy's best hope was that of getting assigned to the AgriCorps. At least he could be outside all day, in that circumstance. Finally, Kol's thirteenth birthday came and went, and he got his best case scenario - Kol was being sent to Orron III to work in the AgriCorps there. Though the boy had a feeling it wasn't going to last. He didn't intent to stay very long. That being said, he smuggled a training saber out of the Jedi Temple with him, hoping he could some day turn it into a proper lightsaber. But Kol's transport ended up leaving without him. The Day that the boy was designated to leave Coruscant, a Jedi Master had shown up at the Temple, asking for Kol by name. The Master? One Oberon Talzuk. Oberon and Kol met, and spent the day together. Kol was initially cautious, wondering as to why a Jedi Watchman would travel all the way back to Coruscant just to meet with him, on the day he was supposed to leave for the AgriCorps no less. He wondered if perhaps this Jedi knew of him somehow. However, Kol let his suspicions go unspoken. He knew better than to screw up his one last chance at being a Jedi. Oberon and Kol ate together, discussed the Force together, and sparred together. And at the end of the day, as the setting sun was visible from the Council Chamber of the Jedi Temple, Oberon declared to the Council that he was taking Kol as his apprentice. A few perhaps had the same suspicions that Kol did - that it was no coincidence that Oberon showed up to the Temple on the same day that Kol was being sent to the AgriCorps. But much like Kol, they let it slide, deciding that they had bigger things to worry about. Kol never had a chance to return the training saber he had stolen, as Oberon had already taken the boy back to the small residence on Concord Dawn he maintained that very night. He explained that as a Jedi Watchman, many of his days were spent dealing with the local planetary governments, and helping them solve disputes, and now Kol would be helping him as well as learning to be a Jedi. Kol took it all in great stride. He loved Concord Dawn, how open and natural it felt in comparison to Corsucant. He liked being able to learn about the Mandalorians, as Concord Dawn had a large population. What he didn't like, however, was how hard Oberon pushed him. They were constantly training. Constantly meditating. Constantly working out. Constantly studying. At first, Kol fell asleep more than one night in his collection of datapads at a table in Oberon's library, only to be woken up at the break of dawn for their morning workout and training regimen. Yet, on the flip-side of this, Oberon taught the Apprentice more advanced forms and skills when he started to quickly master those basic ones that they worked on first. At the age of fifteen, Oberon decided that it was time Kol had built his own lightsaber. So Oberon handed him a manual for lightsaber construction and maintenance, and told him to have a working hilt in a few weeks time. Kol tried studying the manual, at first, but it just wasn't absorbing. So while his deadline was growing nearer, Kol had no intention of upsetting Oberon. One night, staying up later after Oberon had gone to bed, Kol disassembled his old training lightsaber, and worked over the parts himself, tossing the manual aside. Harvesting parts from the training lightsaber and those that he had found himself, Kol built himself a functioning lightsaber hilt by the time morning rolled around. Well, partially functioning. It still needed a crystal. And the presentation of the hilt didn't excuse the tired teen from any of his morning workouts. A few weeks later, Oberon arranged for him and Kol to travel to Ilum, so that the boy could retrieve a crystal. When the pair landed, however, they discovered that they weren't the only ones on the snow-covered planet. To Kol's pleasant surprise, Celara and her master Syal Los were also on Ilum, so that Celara could retrieve a crystal for her first lightsaber as well. Without consulting their masters very much, Celara and Kol took off into the crystal caves together. Syal wasn't too thrilled, but Oberon didn't stop them. He knew that Kol and Celara would have to work things out on their own. So the masters waited in the Temple on Ilum while their Apprentices went to find their crystals. Though after only a few hours in the caves, Kol and Celara became separated and lost. Kol tried finding his way back to his friend, but couldn't find the Zabrak in the massive maze. Instead, he just had to trust that she was okay, which was hard for him to do. Kol would later look back on it as a first lesson about attachment. So instead, he did the only he could - find a crystal. Finding a crystal seemed like a weird task, as the caves were literally full of the gemstones. But none of the formations he came across really caught Kol's eye. Instead, deeper into the maze there was a green formation that he just seemed drawn towards. So Kol plucked a crystal from it, and sat and meditated on the gemstone right there in the cave. Once he felt like it was attuned to him personally, Kol inserted the crystal into his already built hilt, and tested the lightsaber. It held a strong, coherent, green blade. Happy with his work, Kol decided to try and find Celara. But the young man didn't have to look far. There was an all-too familiar scream, and Kol found his friend in no time at all. A lone gorgodon had wandered into the crystal caves. But luckily by this point, Celara had finished her own lightsaber as well, and the two teenagers were able to drive the beast back and away from the crystals and the Temple. Celara and Kol spent a little more time together in the crystal caves, discussing their new lightsabers and how they had found their gemstones. But soon enough, the pair returned to the Temple and Oberon and Syal were ready to leave the frigid planet already. So Kol and Celara said their goodbyes, and went their separate ways. Kol and Oberon went back to Concord Dawn, and their usual, daily routine started once again in earnest. However, Oberon started to grow concerned with how aggressive the Mandalorians were becoming, and the rising tensions between the Republic and the Sith. While Concord Dawn was still in Republic Space, Oberon had a feeling that it wouldn't be much longer. Rather than wait for the eventual breakout of violence, Oberon moved himself and Kol to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, giving up his position as a Jedi Watchman. They didn't have much in the way of assignments, but that didn't mean he didn't keep the boy sharp. No, instead, Oberon used this time to start getting Kol ready for his Trials of Knighthood. Oberon pushed Kol more than ever, was harder on him more than ever, and trained him harder more than ever. And getting to see Celara more and more often made it worth it for Kol, even if he couldn't get away from the Temple. So between mock injuries and using some of his free time unwisely, Kol spent as much time as he could, seeing Celara in the medical wing of the Temple. The Zabrak wasn't daft, and she caught onto Kol's routine rather quickly. She'd let him sit and wait for hours as she helped tend to other, real patients with real issues. But Kol didn't leave, and often he and Celara had a good laugh about it. Eventually, Celara started putting Kol to work, too, whenever she saw him in the medically bay, with any minor tasks that needed done. Kol and Celara had more than a few long nights together. More than a few chances to grow close, and turn their friendship into something more. It was a feeling shared on both sides, and that had sort of just developed naturally. Finally, at the end of one night, Kol had decided to try and kiss Celara. But things didn't go as planned. She was receptive, yet hesitant, and left quickly without a word, clearly upset. Kol didn't say much the next day, and Oberon had a feeling about what had happened. Yet, the Jedi Master didn't say anything. He felt that Kol had to work this out himself, and that he didn't have any business teaching him to avoid attachment, something he clearly struggled with himself. Celara approached Kol the day after he had tried to kiss her, and explained that while Kol was important to her, her life as a Jedi was more so. It was Kol's turn to be hesitant this time. He liked his life as a Jedi as well, and be liked Celara, but he wasn't sure which he liked more. But eventually he agreed with her, and they agreed to remain just friends, like nothing had happened. Oberon and Kol would go on some simple missions for the Council during this time - diplomatic meetings, helping planetary law agencies and the like. Mundane every day Jedi things, really. Kol's and Celara still saw each other regularly, but things were more than a bit awkward. The Zabrak tried to put some distance between them, but it was hard on both sides. As Kol's time to enter the Trials of Knighthood neared, the Council sent him, alone, to Ord Mantell. A Jedi had gone rogue, and the Council wanted Kol's to retrieve them, as they feared that the Rogue Jedi had fallen to the dark side. Kol's deliberated with Oberon before he left, and the Jedi Master all but confirmed that while it was a dangerous mission it was to be part of the young man's Trials. It didn't take Kol's long to track down the rogue Jedi. They hadn't exactly kept a low profile, after all. Kol's was surprised to find out that it was it old friend, Cal'sorin. They hadn't seen each other since they were younglings. Cal thought it ironic that the ounces sent Kol's after him, and Kol's pleaded with his childhood friend to come back to the Temple with him, and step away from the brink of the dark side. They ended up in a light saber duel instead, and Kol's knocked his old friend off of a landing platform. He obviously hadn't wanted to kill him, only subdue. But what was done was done. With a heavy heart, Kol retrieved Cal'sorin's lightsaber, and reported back to the Jedi Council. In a bittersweet moment, Kol was knighted. Kol's entire Knighthood would be defined by a War that shook the Galaxy to it's core between the Republic, the Sith, and the Mandalorians. Just as the Jedi Knight had considered taking on his own apprentice, the first opening salvos of the violence broke out. Oberon was killed as the Mandalorians first attacked the Republic; the old man had gone back out towards Mandalorians Space once Kol had been knighted, to try and continue his career as a Watchman. Kol had found a holocron among Oberon's things once the Jedi Master had been killed, which explained Kol's parentage and whatnot. The Knight hid the holocron, and buried the secret deep. He didn't want to be potentially expelled from the Jedi Order, or otherwise scrutinized, over his father's mistake. Nonetheless, after finding out this information, it didn't take Kol long to join The Blades, the organization of Jedi who were helping the war effort from the front lines. Though it could look like a desperate attempt for vengeance for his dead Master and Father on Kol's part, there was no anger in the young man's heart when he joined. Pain, sure, but he didn't seek violence as an answer for Oberon's death. He just wished to prevent more incidents like it. Yaga Minor was a sort of catalyst for the young Jedi Knight. Like most of the major battles in the war thus far, the Republic was loosing badly, and in a full retreat. But Kol kept on fighting. He helped lead a rear guard action that stopped the Sith advance in it's tracks, and bough the Republic military as much time as it needed to every troop they could off of the planet. The Jedi Knight personally saved troops from a downed transport, caught in the middle of a no man's land. This and other incidents would earn him the moniker "The Hero of Yaga Minor". Something he didn't hear until days later, and instantly disliked. What was there to be a hero of? They had been beaten and had to retreat. There were far more deserving of such a title, who had never made it off of the battlefield. And as the republic continued to loose ground in the War, Kol continued to lead his rear guard in the same way that he did on Yaga Minor. He employed the same sort of tactics that one would use in Soresu on the battlefield; let the enemy crash themselves onto nearly unbearable defenses, and strike back hard where the cracks in their own form showed. Though they were retreating and loosing, Kol and his troops were nonetheless able to make the Sith think twice about following. Kol was at Taris, as well. As the Republic retreated once again, Kol led his troops in their usual rear guard tactics. However, the Jedi Knight was taken out of the fighting before the rakghouls broke out. It was on Taris that Kol lost one of his eyes to a stray blasterbolt. His troops helped him recover from the battlefield, and he was off of the planet before the true hell broke out. While patched up and stabilized in Space, Kol was sent back to the Temple for a cybernetic replacement and full healing. Upon learning what had happened, Celara Kandral took over as Kol's primary healer. She installed the replacement, and proceeded to help the Knigh through some therapy to help him adapt to the new eye. It was a rough time for the Knight, which was mad especially worse once he heard the news about the rakghoul outbreak, and how the whole planet had been lost. The only good news was that now the entire Jedi Order was throwing it's full weight behind the war effort, now. Kol lobbied heavily for Celara to be rolled into his contingent of troops, citing that he still needed therapy for his new cybernetic eye. That wasn't entirely true, but it worked nonetheless. In the time that Kol had been back to the Temple, and Celara had been tending to him, they grew close once again. Very close. The romantic spark reignited between the two of them, and neither of them felt the need to snuff it out once again. Celara and Kol fought together all throughout the War. A few years after Taris, when the Sith Empire was making it's big push into the Core and Inner Rim, Kol and Celara had gotten swept up into some fighting on Brentaal. The two were separarated, and the Republic left before Kol could find the Zabrak. Celara was declared missing in action, and there were no reports from the Republic's spies that the Sith had even found her. Before any more channels could be followed up on Celara's disappearance, Kol and the others were sent to Coruscant, reinforcing the planet against the eventual Sith onslaught. And of course, the onslaught came. As Kol was in the midst of fighting on Coruscant's surface, a single Sith had sought him out. Kol recognized him as his old friend and now bitter rival, Cal'sorin. Of course, Cal'sorin didn't go by that name anymore, and the man was disfigured from their previous duel on Ord Mantell. Their long, intense fight took them away from the majority of the action and into the lower city, and when Kol gained the upper hand, he was sure to not let a fall finish what he could not last time. Kol killed his old friend, who lunged at the Jedi Knight while the Knight was trying to capture him. Kol met back up with his troops, finished the fighting, and for one of the first times he could remember he watched as the Sith retreated, and not the Republic. The Jedi Knight knew things were different, now. Not long after Coruscant, a ceasefire was called. Thanks to Kol's working knowledge of the Mandalorian language because of his time on Concord Dawn, he was one of the few Jedi to help with the diplomatic team on Prahzi. It didn't suit the Knight. He did as he was asked, and that was all. When the armistice could be worked out, Kol was summoned back to the Jedi Temple. The Council bestowed on him the rank of Master, and urged the man to take on an apprentice, now that the war was over. Instead, Kol went to the Republic border planets, and started to help with relief and rebuilding efforts wherever he was needed. |
