Though he stands a good few inches above most his peers he is a bit slimmer than most. Despite his advanced age, Orren tries to keep himself in shape, which gives his long form a lanky, wiry appearance over all. His hair is short, and kept in a smooth comb-over style, laying from the left to the right. Over the years the color has faded from the strands, and though it hasn’t receded, the whole ensemble has a smoke-and-fire appearance, with a strong mix of auburn and grey which proceeded down both sides of his jaw into a short beard. The one thing that does stand out about the Jedi Master, however, is that he is missing his entire right arm. Severed at the shoulder during the War against the Sith, Orren has never had the limb replaced, given his aversion to droids and cybernetics. Like most Miraluka, Orren is without eyes, yet possesses the same eye-sockets as humans do. In order to not appear irregular among the Galaxy at large, Orren wears a simple slip of cloth over these sockets to cover them. This piece of cloth is a soft brown, and made out of the same material that standard Jedi robes are made out of. Orren’s robes, for that fact, are a mixture of browns, from the outer cloak down to the tunic and pants, with a leather belt and boots that ride up and past his shins. Despite the situation at hand, whether it is a battlefield or a Council meeting, Orren is always found in his robes, unlike some Jedi. Personality Profile Orren Fyek is a loyal and dedicated member of the Jedi Order, adhering to the Order’s Code and philosophies as the most important things in his life. The Jedi Master is steadfast in his beliefs, giving of himself, and modest in all circumstances. Even before his permanently disfiguring injury, which hampered his battle prowess, Orren was skilled at solving disputes without having to activate his lightsaber. Though the man is not quiet and speaks when something needs to be said, he is in fact soft-spoken, and usually has a gentle voice that can be found to be full of tact and kindness. Despite the Miraluka’s outstanding loyalty to the Jedi Order, Orren believes that the Order is simply the best way to serve the Force. As the Force encompasses all, the Jedi Master believes that his first loyalty should be to the mystical energy field. That he should let the Force work through him in everything, and that he should always heed its call. Orren has an aversion to droids, given that he perceives the Galaxy through the Force as all Miraluka do, as well as cybernetics. Since these mechanical things normally cannot be seen in the Force, unless one is looking for what some would call “empty spots”, they’ve always been a bit eerie to the Jedi Master. Outside of his very Jedi-like traits, Orren has a dry humor and something of a sarcastic wit, something shown around friends and students. It may not produce many laughs, but it garners smiles and the occasional chortle. The Jedi Master is a cautious individual, gauging situations and events carefully before leaping in with the abandon he once had in his youth. This cautious conversatism expands to the man’s teaching, as well, and ushers in a large amount of patience and foresight. The Miraluka finds it easy to make friends, and can be something of an accomplished storyteller when he wants to be, much to the enjoyment of the younglings in the classes he loves to teach. Background Father • Sharr Fyek, Deceased Mother • Nira Alti, Deceased Siblings • Keyan Fyek, Transport Pilot, 51, Brother Catta Fyek, Secretary, 55, Sister Other Important Connections • Rhissai Arckan, High Council Member, Co-Worker Jaidan Shatani, High Council Member, Co-Worker Soryn Varik, 33, Jedi Master, Former Student (NPC) Overall History • Born in 3,649 BBY to Sharr and Catta Fyek, a Miraluka couple living in the lower levels of Coruscant, Orren would be the first of three children born to the pair. Orren would never meet his siblings, however. Sharr and Nira did not live a happy life; their income set them just around the poverty line, and their neighborhood was one that people dared not travel after nightfall, or at all sometimes. So when their child was found to be Force-sensitive by the hospital where he was born, the pair didn't need to discuss, think, or debate. They left Orren in the care of the hospital so a Jedi could retrieve the Miraluka, and never even bothered to take the infant home, and barely even held him after he was born. As a Jedi Youngling, Orren made few friends. Between the lack of eyes in his eye sockets, he was naturally quiet, and the fact that he was powerful in the ways of the Force at a young age, there was a certain air of mystery about the boy as far as the other children were concerned. One child who did no hold back from making Orren his friend was Rynar O'lars, a green Twi'lek boy who had come to the Order at a late age. Rynar and Orren were best friends quickly, and were soon two peas in a pod. However, almost as quickly as Rynar came he left, chosen to become an apprentice at the age of eleven by a Jedi Sentinel. The Miraluka would not be so lucky. Orren was nearly thirteen, and almost sent to the ExplorCorps, before a Givin Jedi Master named Pendor Isen. Pendo Isen explained that he was of the Consular branch of Jedi to Orren. He had been gone from the Temple for awhile on an extended mission, but had been surprised with the boy's control of the Force, and found that it was time to take on a new student. Isen was laid back as a teacher, and let Orren discover his own answers and solutions, with prodding when needed. After Orren had built a yellow bladed lightsaber, he taught the boy some Makashi and Niman, finding the forms suitable to compensate for their control of the Force. As Consulars, Orren and Pendor stayed close to the Jedi Temple, and only wandered from it when assigned to a diplomatic mission. On occasion these missions would turn south, but not often, and their lightsabers were not as needed as they were for some master-and-student pairings. When it came time for Orren to be Knighted, Pendor opted to let the Miraluka take missions away from the Temple and on his own, giving him more practical Trials than those in a controlled environment. One of these missions saw Orren and his friend Rynar, who was already Knighted, pair up as they tracked a wayward Jedi across the Galaxy to Tatooine. The Miraluka tried convince their lost brethren, an Ithorian who's mind had been twisted by use of the Force, to come back to the Jedi Temple with them. Rynar, however, sprung in attack when the Ithorian made to leave. Orren came to the Ithorian's defense, going so far as to cross blades with his friend. This short fight convinced Rynar he was in the wrong, but it was already too late, as the Ithorian was suffering from grievous wounds. Rynar left Orren's company on Tatooine, leaving his lightsaber with the Miraluka, which was retired in the Temple upon Orren's return. After the events on Tatooine, Orren experienced a few more Trials, and was soon enough Knighted as a full Jedi. Unlike some, Orren wasted very little time in taking on a Padawan. He wanted to be a teacher, to help guide another on the path to being a Jedi Knight. What the Miraluka was not prepared for was the host of questions that students usually came along with. Kyra Sarn was a female human that Orren saw promise in. The first few years were spent avoiding and twisting the hard questions that Kyra had, when Orren didn't have an answer. After that, however, the Miraluka spent his time teaching the girl much in the same way that Pendor had taught him; by letting her find out for herself. Kyra, however, was a troubled padawan it seemed. Not long after building her first lightsaber, he ran off from the Temple on Coruscant. Confused and upset, Orren enlisted Pendor's help in tracking down his wayward student, whom they found on Abregado-Rae. It seemed that Kyra was taken from her family while she was still old enough to remember home, and her loved ones. She wanted to see them, to make sure they were okay after a man had made an empty threat about them on their last mission. Pendor and Orren were able to convince Kyra to return to the Temple, and while Orren didn't punish her, there was a lengthy lecture about the dangers of attachment. Still, Kyra's mind always seemed to wander after that. But despite her wandering mind, Orren's teachings still helped Kyra pass her Trials. She was Knighted, and Orren was made a Jedi Master not long after he turned thirty-two. And as a Jedi Master, Orren's first act was to spend some time among the other Jedi holdings, such as Mustafar, and Dantooine. He traveled around, learning from Force Organizations that would teach him, such as the Baran Do, Fallanasi, and Aiing Tii Monks, and he chronicled his travels and learnings for the Jedi Order. After nearly two years, Orren found his adventures reaching their end on Dantooine. There, the Miraluka found a student among the Jedi Enclave inhabitants; another Miraluka. His name was Soryn Varik. Soryn was a confident boy, and had more of a leaning for his sword arm than the Force, unlike most Miraluka Jedi Orren had met. But the boy was cheerful, loyal, and inquisitive. Orren made sure to find those willing to teach Soryn swordsmanship back at the Temple on Coruscant when they had the time, and in return, Soryn was a dedicated and hardworking student. As much as Soryn was inquisitive, however, he was not particularly bright. Orren found himself trying hard to break down complex concepts, or explaining himself multiple times. Nonetheless, the two got along rather well, better even than most Apprentices and Masters. The only time that Orren lost his patience was when Soryn tried his newly built lightsaber for the first time, after Orren nearly helped him build it. The weapon exploded on the workbench, and singed off both Miraluka's eyebrows, facial hair, and whatnot. Still, a few years later, and Soryn was knighted as well, taking Orren's teachings of the Force and his talent with a blade into the career of a Jedi Shadow. After training two padawans to Knighthood successfully, Orren was given a seat on the Jedi Council. Unfortunately, this seat was given to him just before the Order and the Republic became involved in the most recent war against the Sith and their Empire. Orren did not oppose the formation of the Blades, but rather supported it. Yet, the Miraluka did not join. He felt his place was on Coruscant, but he could see through the Force that the entire Order would be involved in the fighting soon enough. So he stayed behind and apart from the war effort, and did his best attempts to make sure that the Order was ready for when the fighting came. Kyra, Orren's first padawan, had indeed joined the Blades. As did Soryn. Both had contacted him before the Battle of Taris, telling him about the scale and the damage that was going to be inflicted. Orren felt that his place was to be there, even if from the sidelines. However, it turned out that Taris had no side-lines, once the rakghouls attacked. Orren and Kyra argued about what to do, whether they should stand and fight or retreat. Kyra eventually turned on her old master, however, and showed her true colors. She had fallen to the darkside at the beginning of the War, and had waited until she could properly strike at Orren. She hoped that killing a High Councilor would earn her respect and a place in the Sith Order. What she had not counted on was Soryn being there. Kyra severed Orren's arm at the shoulder, but Soryn fought off the dark Jedi, and rescued his former master from the horrors of Taris. Orren lost his lightsaber on the planet, and was forced to build a new weapon. For the rest of the War, Orren served in a advisory position, mostly holding down the Jedi Temple as the rest of the Order ran off to fight in the War. Though the Miraluka would see his share of action still, it was few and far between until the Battle of Coruscant. Orren was sad to see the War claim so many, and because of it, his position within the Council was elevated again and again. Finally, at the War's end, Orren was voted as the Master of the Jedi Order, leading the Council in all meetings and decisions alone, until they could find someone to take over the vacant position of Grandmaster. While offered to him, the Miraluka was not sure he could fit the bill, and was not sure he had the confidence to lead the Order while their most infamous enemy was still in-force, in the Galaxy. |
