He has a prominent chin, jawline, and cheekbones, and his brow is heavy. The human is rather pale and bears a serious if somewhat distant expression. His dark and melancholy eyes are matched by long, wavy black hair that falls halfway down his neck. Optimally, Bas is clean shaven, but from time to time scraggly stubble grows where some grow facial hair. His hair is usually unkempt, in something of a comb-shy mop. Bas is of average height, though a couple inches taller when wearing his customary black combat boots. Never much of one for the rec, he is rather scrawny, While he's "working" Bas keeps a low profile. He prefers plain, name-brand casual wear, usually in black, gray, or with subtle patterns. He usually dons a light coat when out and about, his favorite a Krayt leather Yves St. Coruscant swoop jacket. Personality Profile Bas is smart. From a young age, he showed signs of a keen intellect, to the delight of his parents. Unfortunately, their bright little child was also willful to a fault. He hasn't changed much. Rejected by the Jedi and utterly bored with the bourgeois society of Hanna City's wealthy suburbs, Bas spent much of his life resentful and alone. He's superior and presumptuous, though can be charming, as those with forceful wills often are. Even so, he comes across as emotionally detached at times, if not nihilistic when he's in a low. Particularly moody in the mornings, Bas can be prone to mood swings, a condition not at all ameliorated by a number of casual substance abuse issues. This moodiness is also reflected in his habits; Bas often finds bursts of energy and creativity, diving into a new subject and staying on it for weeks before casting it aside for another. This has lead to quite a diverse selection of interests and skills, from mechanical work, ships, and droids to alien languages and, more recently, the Force. Of course his worldier interests often occupy most of his energy, from wild partying to an obscene designer shoe collection. With others, Bas is often cold. He spent much of his life feeling like an outcast, and takes a long time to warm up to new friends. His lifestyle necessitates a high bar for trust, as double-crossers and Republic narcs are a dime a dozen in the Core. Background Father • Asyru Keldrova, attorney, 53 Mother • Meirane Nissa Keldrova, homemaker, philanthropist, 45 Siblings • Malic, 25, attorney; Azora, 19, student, painter Other Important Connections • TBD Overall History • Childhood/Jedi Years Hanna City was home to a large class of well to do new money that made their homes in the idyllic suburbs. Bas’ parents were these kind of people; his father was a corporate attorney and his mother a titular homemaker with a full time commitment to painkillers and brunch. Bas was their second child, a healthy baby boy revealed to be force sensitive after testing. They were soon visited by a Jedi, who agreed to return for Bas when he was five. These years passed quickly, but the Keldrovas reluctantly kept their agreement and Bas, confused but eager, began his life as a Jedi youngling on Coruscant. it was clear early on that Bas was very bright. He was particularly talented at mathematics and science, but outperformed most of his peers in all of his studies. The skinny youngling was not without problems, though. He exhibited very little ambition, and was a difficult child, particularly in the early morning, and would often sleep or wander during instruction. More significantly, it was clear Bas was only modestly force sensitive, and his precocious intellect aside, he simply didn’t measure up to most of the other younglings. By the time he was around 11, it was clear to everyone including Bas that he would not be selected as a padawan. This lead to more behavioral problems, a fight or two, and eventually, he was directed to the service corps. His tenure in the service corps ended before it began, because he ran away and was caught three times before he could be transferred from the temple. At a loss, the Jedi contacted his parents, who surprised, retrieved him and brought him home to Chandrila. After a warm reception, Bas uneasily settled into his old, unfamiliar life. It was far more comfortable than Coruscant, and he had all that he could want for. He even reconnected with his older brother and younger sister. Bas spent his teenage years in a ritzy high school in the city. There he was ridiculed when his classmates learned of his past as a reject youngling. He started smoking and drinking after falling in with the burnout clique. He was able to get away with a lot for a teenager, owing to his borderline neglectful parents and unsupervised like of credit. Even so, he managed to score at the top of his class, and was accepted to a prestigious, expensive university on Raltiir to study his physics. Raltiir was fun for Bas. He immediately discovered he wasn’t forced to attend class, and proceeded to skip every single one for three semesters. He partied lavishly, trying to ignore how out of place he felt among his more studious and intentional classmates. That’s when, in a night club, he met Laren Davos, a handsome Echani with a lot of credits and a blue spice habit. It was a life-changing meeting. Laren, Bas later found out, supported his lifestyle not with his father’s money, but by slinging spice to the college students of Raltiir. Drawn to the lifestyle and to him, Bas fell into the world of spice, and things would never be the same. He was expelled for poor attendance, and after an angry holoconference with his parents, his money was cut off. At first it was small deals, when he’d go in with Laren for a half brick and make a few thousand credits. He learned a lot around this time. Though school didn’t work out, he continued to learn and started to develop a lasting interest in mechanics, especially swoop bikes. He and Laren, by this time on and off lovers, business partners, and close friends, had started training in martial arts after a few deals gone wrong cost them thousands. The Echani was versed in the techniques of his people, and imparted some of that knowledge to Bas, who took a liking to the simple but effective quarter staff. Another turning point for Bas was in one of these bad deals. Held at blaster point by a rough bunch of Rodian smugglers, he and Laren had been cornered during what was supposed to be a quick transaction. After one of the Rodians accidentally shot and killed Laren, Bas was overcome with rage and fear. He felt a surge of power, the Force as a chorus when before it was a solo. Impossibly fast, he dodged an incoming blaster bolt and seemed to reach out and snatched the blaster from well beyond his arm’s reach, killing the Rodians. Shocked, but also invigorated by his new discovery, he grabbed the spice and the money and rode off on his swoop as lights and sirens flooded the air. Losing Laren and a blood feud with a Rodian cartel were enough for Bas to bail on Raltiir. With what cash he had, he bought an old freighter and was off, first to Metellos and then beyond. Working to cultivate his tardy force aptitude and learning the ropes of the interplanetary drug trade, he began running small jobs for small time blue spice and death stick dealers. Growing in wits and the Force, Bas looked to bigger things. Finally confident he can handle himself in a fight, of which he’d now had a few, he headed to the outer rim to chase real money, and perhaps, find someone to teach him the ways of the Force. |
