Up in Flames Discussion thread

So, the thread's not even started, and right now it's Meira and myself signed up, but that's no reason to NOT get this thread started.

Mission Name: Up in Flames
Planet: Troiken
Major NPC Characters: Xextos representative, Quermian representative, terrorist (of either species)
Number of Participants: 3-4
Participants: Meira (knight, something of the leader in the mission), Arichi (padawan)
Mission Requirements: Padawans must be accompanied by master.
Mission Briefing: Though the Quermians and Xextos joined the Republic together some time ago, the ages have only just begun to lessen the coldness between these two related species. Progress has been slow, but steady... until recently. A bomb attack on the Quermian embassy in Troiken's capital Veterned, soon followed by another explosion at a nearby Xextos courthouse, have suggested a sudden failure in peaceable coexistence. Representatives of both races have put aside their differences and contacted the Jedi in hopes of putting an end to these attacks before any more lives are lost.

That's the mission, as it stands. This is the OOC thread for it!

So yeah, essentially what's going on here is that this is going to be mostly a diplomatic mission, but we're also going to have a bit of investigating thrown in.

The main reason why Meira is somewhat leading up this mission is that she is a diplomatically oriented character, but also because she has psychometry, which will hopefully help in the investigation of this terrorist.

As far as the NPCs are concerned, the two representatives can be played by one person if need be, but I'd like for the terrorist to be played alone, if that makes sense.

So Rune does have some experience since he's a former Watchman. However I'm fine letting your character be in charge Meria, I didn't want to be anyways =P

So do we have some basic outline for the mission? Steps to success? Something?

Heeeey, sorry for the delay.

Ok, so I said Meira was leading it before I knew who'd be going. With a master level character signed up, we can adjust what I said a little. Meira will be -kinda- leading this mission. Meaning, with your permission Ghostie, Rune will be something like a supervisor or facilitator on the mission. He can be there sort of as a back up, but is letting Meira take the reigns. She's a newish knight after all so it would make sense to give her the lead, but have someone more experienced there just in case.

Aside from that, I'm debating if I should let y'all in on a little secret concerning the mission. So before I go spilling any beans best left unspilt (<--not a word but I'm gonna use it anyway), I'll ask you this:

How do you feel about knowing the end result of a thread before you start?

If y'all are cool with knowing the general result of this mission, then I'll tell you. If you'd rather go with the flow and find out along the way, then I won't.

But the general outline will be as follows.

-Arrive on Toiken and meet with the two representatives who will brief the Jedi on what is going on.
-Visit the bombing sites to collect whatever information we can.
-Follow leads, possibly split up

I know this seems pretty vague, but that's because I tend to try to leave things open in case there's an interesting idea that pops up while RPing. I also left off any general points for the ending parts of the thread in case y'all elect not to know.

So, let me know your stance on the knowing bit, and also let me know if you have any ideas you'd like to try to incorporate into the thread. Like I said, I like to keep things open so we can explore as many possibilities as we can.

The only thing I'm invested in as far as making sure it gets included is Meira's psychometry. I'm not gonna lie, this whole mission was kinda thought up around me trying to think of how I could RP her using it.

OH! We also still need our NPCs, so if y'all know anyone that might be interested, please let them know!

I am completely fine with Rune being a supervisor, facilitator, and babysitter for the padawans (just kidding!). This is going to be Rune and Kalan's first mission together, so he's going to (try) to be teaching his new padawan a thing or two. Not mention, I don't think Rune will have a problem letting a newish knight step in and get some experience.

I don't mind knowing the end results of a thread. If the rest don't want to hear it, you can PM me about it. I'd like to know where we are going with this that way I know what I have to do and when.

The psychometry sounds fine, and dead useful when looking for clues. I think I may know some people who are interested in NPCing, so I'll ask around.

Right well, it's been long enough and the ayes have it soooo... here's our endgame:

We are not going to be successful in this mission. As the mission title might have already suggested to you, we will fail. This means our bad guy will get away. Now, I'm not saying our failure has to be 100% or anything, but the actual apprehending of our bad guy will not take place. We can identify him and maybe chase him offworld, making his return and future attempts inadvisable (which would be a partial victory), but we will not be bringing our man to justice.

Why? Well, for Meira at least, there has to be something of a dangerous and defeated ending to set up a thread that she will be in after this (Eclipse, I'll be talking to you about that later). The other reason is that we don't always win in life. Sometimes you fail and I thought it'd be fun to RP such a situation out.

Now that you know the general ending criteria, is there anything y'all would like to contribute to the plot? Are we ready to get started?

OH! And did y'all speak to friends and see if anyone was willing to NPC?
