The object of war is not to die for your people but to make the other bastard die for his.
Faction: Republic
Department: Special Forces
Rank: Colonel
Name: Corunna “Momma Dog” Naaden
Race: Human
Age: 45
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 158
Birth place: Alderaan
Appearance:
Despite nearing her fifties, Corunna still maintains an elegant beauty about her. Her skin always seems to have an even tan to it, a stark contrast to her older, more well-known sister. The woman’s eyes are a very dark brown color, to the point where it appears that her pupils and iris’ are the same color. Only in direct sunlight can you see the hint of deep amber within them. No matter how stern her countenance might be, or how harsh her words may seem, there always seems to be a glimmer of worry in her eye. Her hair is still shiny and black, with only a single streak of silver running down the left side of her hair that originates at her temple.
Corunna never wears her hair down, always tied back into a pony tail or bun to keep it out of her sights, and out of habit. Like many Alderaanian women, her features are a blend of angular and smooth, her features proportionate. At first glance, she appears to be much younger than she is, but those who know Corunna or really look at her, can see the telltale signs of aging begin to show in the lines on her face.
‘Momma Dog’ In Light BDU’s
Like her sister, Corunna’s frame isn’t necessarily outstanding. Until one discovers she’s had three children, then they consider her build quite amazing. Her muscular structure is toned, Corunna is in excellent shape. Though not considered petite, she is on the shorter side, quite a bit compared to the rest of her family. She has feminine curves to her body, but not anything worth showing off- in her eyes at least.
Even when stuck behind a desk perusing mission reports and filing through bureaucratic nonsense, Corunna prefers to wear her fatigues over an officer’s uniform. The only time she ever slips into her dress blues are for either public speeches, or for formal events. There are two items that are always on her person; one is her wedding band, the other a small oval-shaped locket worn around her neck. Within the locket are pictures of her two younger children.
Corunna carries herself with confidence. Her head is always held high and her posture always perfect. At least around others, for when she retires to her home at night, she allows that mask to fall. When in command, her orders are swift, her words clear, and her tone leaves no room for argument. If she says jump, one responds with ‘how high’. Though no longer as active in the field as when she was younger, Corunna still uses her skills with perfection; she knows how to move about the battlefield after so many years, and still maintains that level headedness that is necessary of a good commander even when the shells are falling, and her men are dying around her.
Personality:
Corunna first and foremost is loyal to the Republic. A patriot through and through, she continues to serve and fight, even though she could have retired a couple years ago from active duty. As much as she yearns for a quiet life back on Dantooine to raise her children, that is not an option with the Sith Empire on the march, and Mandalorians raiding Republic planets. She has something more to fight for than many others, and this mother is going to make sure her kids live in a galaxy ruled justly, and not through tyranny.
Because of this, Corunna is quite protective of everyone. If you are a friend of hers, or even just serve the Republic, she would tear cities apart just to save one person. She has earned her call sign ‘Momma Dog’ honestly. This especially spreads to children, it breaks her heart to see soldiers no older than her eldest son was enlisted. It is because of this, that she studies almost constantly, studying war tactics of various species, cultures, and governments, using any tactic necessary to reduce casualties on her side. Some of the higher ranking Brass doesn’t approve of this, but they know that Corunna is a cunning strategist and natural leader.
Sometimes the woman can be prone to despair. Never in public, and rarely ever in front of others, she has lost much in her years, two of the most important people in her life stripped away in rapid succession. Most of the time, she drowns this sorrow in the best Alderaanian wines she can get her hands on, which given her post, is readily available.

Bio:
Child of Alderaan
The sister of the Supreme Chancellor was born later into her life. Corunna wasn’t a planned child, but luckily her parents were esteemed and well off in their community. She was quite the fussy baby, and it seemed to only continue on as a young child. Unlike her older sister, who was content reading all day, Corunna had boundless energy, the young one outside and playing constantly, to the point where she would even sleep outside in the grasses of her home’s yard. Corunna did not make friends too easily though throughout her child hood, her temper was short as a child and she would get into scraps with other children all throughout her basic education days, even up into secondary education.
Though she didn’t quite study as much as Asp ever did, Corunna shared a mind that was a quick learner, and never struggled with her courses. She passed her schooling each year with passable grades, her test scores quite high, but her actual work was rarely done. All throughout her childhood, Corunna could never just sit around, and it only continued more and more despite her teachers prodding her to study more to enter better universities. Such a life never interested Corunna though. She didn’t want to be passive any more than she had to, she wanted to be something of value, but wasn’t sure what to do with herself exactly. It wasn’t until one faithful night that she would be drawn into what eventually became her calling, not just her career.
Serendipity
Corunna was still seventeen when she finished her secondary education. Her parents didn’t make a big deal about her graduation- it was the same for Asp when she graduated- but Corunna still went to other parties and gatherings for her friends and their families. It was at one said party that she met a Republic soldier, SGT. Denivan Ward. He was eleven years her senior, nearly the same age as her older sister, but as he told her stories about his campaigns and work, she quickly became enamored- both with the man and the lifestyle that came with being a part of something greater than yourself, let alone something that paid to have her run around and burn off that endless energy.
It also helped that she thought the good Sargent was quite dapper.
They spent nearly the entire evening together, just talking, as if they had known each other their entire lives, the conversation a perfect balance of give and take. It wasn’t unnoticed by the crowds either. Corunna had shown up to congratulate her neighbor and friend, but barely saw her friend; her sole focus was on Den that evening. It saddened the girl greatly when she had to say goodbye to Den, but they traded information, and would continue to stay in touch.
Enlist and Honor
A couple months later, the very day Corunna turned eighteen, she went to the local recruiters and signed on. During those months she had been communicating with Den over the holonet, both excited at his recent promotion to Captain. Using some connections he had, Den had Corunna slated to join his unit after Basic. She didn’t leave Alderaan though, as all Alderaanian recruits in the area always went to Fort Ilder, where they would go through Basic before joining their individual units.
For the first time in her entire life, Corunna actually felt as if she was where she truly belonged. Most people she befriended and worked with had that same boundless energy she had, as well as the sheer willpower to get through what needed to be done. Also, for the first time in her life, when she would lie down in her bunk for the night, she felt completely and utterly exhausted. That had never happened before as she was growing up.
It was during Basic that Corunna began to develop an odd quirk. She rarely ever called anyone by their name, instead she always had an unique nickname for everyone. Even her Drill Sergeant was given one, who despite everything, being called “Twinkle Toes” made him giggle endlessly. However, these giggles were always followed by an order to do pushups, situps and run around the compound until she physically couldn’t anymore. This wound up helping Corunna to get into incredible shape quickly.
It was between her peak conditioning, natural aptitudes, and her connection to Den that got her slated to join Den’s unit at a higher rank than most, at second lieutenant. She graduated from Basic at the top of her group, it was then that she joined the 414th Special Forces Division, the “Shadow Steps”. Corunna worked directly under Den, assigned to accompany him on nearly every mission. Whether this was done on purpose by Den or not, she never knew. Every time she queried, she got the same response from the man:
“No idea, Sunshine…”
Despite herself, Corunna couldn’t help but blush at the way Den’s eyes sparkled whenever he said her nickname. Sunshine became her first call sign mere weeks into her work with the 414. Den wasted no time when it came to her training, the 414 were wetwork experts, covert sieges, target removals, and other more subterfuge inclined operations. As in Basic, Corunna showed a natural aptitude to most things she tried, but really found her niche in skills related to weaponry and engineering. She picked up stealth techniques rather easily as well, her small size and light weight making her ideal for ops that required a gentler touch.
He also began to teach her something that would become her best source of catharsis, piloting. Den was very careful to teach Corunna everything he knew on handling small craft, and keeping them maintained. It was during these sessions alone that the two really bonded, lying side by side under starships, talking the whole time. It was during one of these sessions that the pair kissed for the first time. It was blatantly obvious that the two had felt something about the other- something many of the 414 giggled about behind their backs. But Den and Corunna never cared, they were in love with each other from the first moment their eyes had met on Alderaan now over a year ago…
A few months after she had turned nineteen, Corunna and Den married on Dantooine while on leave. Dantooine was Denivan’s home world, and his best man was a friend who would be moving to the planet soon: One Erle Sampson. Corunna had always liked Erle, the man never had a mean thing to say about anyone, and despite being large statured, was one of the gentlest people she knew. Even his role within the Special Forces was one that was more preservation oriented- being a part of an elite counter-terrorism unit within the 414. Corunna had seen him as a surrogate brother ever since they had met.
Their wedding wasn’t anything extravagant, they paid for the small ceremony themselves, and were wed under an ancient dantl tree in the fall season of the planet. To this day Corunna keeps a picture on her desk from then, her and Den standing across from each other, their hands held by the others as colorful leaves fell around them. It is one of her most prized possessions. Despite getting married, Corunna kept her last name for a few reasons, one of the primary being that Corunna wanted to do her family name honor.
For the next few years, Corunna and Den continued to work together, the older man continued to teach Corunna everything he knew, and the two became an unbeatable team. The two worked together so cohesively, that their unit often referred to them as “Denna”. Corunna hated that name, but Den loved it, he would laugh joyously every time he ever heard it. And Corunna would stamp his foot each time. During these years, Den would be promoted a couple times, and with that, so did Corunna. Near the time Corunna was turning 25, she was at the rank of captain, and Den had become a Lt. Colonel.
A few months after she had turned 25, Corunna had quite the surprise: She was pregnant. Part of her was beginning to wonder if she was sterile, considering she hadn’t gotten pregnant after six years of marriage. It was almost as if the Force itself had given her this gift, as she was almost at her wits end in worry.
Maternity, Part I
Corunna gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and named him Ailin, which in an ancient Alderaanian language, meant “Protector of Men”. Ailin looked just like Den did in baby pictures; the only exception being that the baby had Corunna’s dark hair, stark opposite of Den’s silver-blonde. Corunna was absolutely smitten by her new little man, everything the baby did was both beautiful and hilarious to the woman, and within his first few weeks of life, he had already received a nickname from his mother: Lil’ Man. She was a very nurturing mother, though she doted on the child, she did her best not to spoil him. Too much. The only hiccup in his first couple years of life, was that he was a very restless sleeper. That never changed.
Corunna took a desk type job within the 414 for a couple years, letting her stay at their apartment in Coruscant with their child for the first two years of his life. Denivan was only around for a few days at a time when he could make it home, his work within the 414 had blossomed further, now a Colonel. Whenever he was able to be there though, he rarely left Corunna and Ailin’s side. Her family truly was the woman’s entire world. It was during this time that she started getting closer with her older sister. Now that she was more available in general, the two called each other constantly. Corunna admired her sister’s patience when it came to politics, she would sooner curb stomp half the senate before she gave them the time of day. However, she did keep up with current politics quite well- the fact that Asp was her sister aided with that greatly.
However, not long before Ailin turned three, Corunna’s energy once more was getting to be too much, despite exercising every day and keeping herself in amazing shape, she still itched to be out in the field again. Likewise, Den pined to be with his son more and more. So after talking to their CO, the two would switch roles. Den was assigned to Coruscant, and Corunna to the field once more. It wasn’t long before she would be assigned something that would change her life forever.
Deep Cover
Corunna was given an unique assignment: To infiltrate a Mandalorian Clan, and gather cultural intelligence for the Republic. She was a natural choice for this particular assignment, she was a very talented marksmen, and had a drive that was akin to the legend of the tenacity of a Mandalorian. It would be quite the test for Corunna, to blend into their clan, but she was simply told just to be herself. At first she didn’t quite understand why she was told this, but that would clear up later on.
She was given an unregistered freighter and had set the ship up to malfunction just as she arrived near Mandalore. The woman was knocked out in the crash, the freighter totaled. She was awoken by the sounds of people digging through the wreckage. Corunna got her first true look at Mandalorians as they investigated the wreckage, she watched as the armored warriors moved and spoke, their language surprisingly fluid and lyrical to her. Naturally she didn’t understand a word they said, but as soon as one neared her hiding spot… she attacked. The woman had been told that all Mandalorians respected strength above all else, and so, she did what she thought would impress them best. The armored man was completely caught off guard, even more so right before Corunna knocked him out by slamming his head into a wall with a well-placed kick. She continued to sneak around the wreckage, taking down Mandalorian after Mandalorian one by one whenever they separated from the party. Even when she was finally caught and cornered, Corunna did not stop swinging, shooting and fighting until finally she was knocked out as well by a vicious back handed strike.
To her surprise, she awoke the next morning to find her wounds had been tended to. She was later told by the doctor that had actually patched her up that her display at the crash site had greatly impressed their clan leader. It was rare for someone to be able to fight a Mandalorian one on one so efficiently, and when asked how someone as small statured as her was able to fight such larger opponents, she would always sigh and laugh softly, and explain that her husband was larger than her, and he was her usual sparring partner.
Corunna learned that she had been captured by Clan Hurnack, a clan known for their beskad forging. After a couple weeks of captivity and healing, she finally met the Clan master. A massive Herglic would greet her one morning when she awoke, the man barely fit into the room it seemed as he sat in the tent where she was. He introduced himself in a surprisingly polite and well-spoken manner as Nar Hurnack, Forge-Master and Clan leader of his people. He calmly shared his thoughts on what she had done, and asked her how she had been able to take down so many of his people… and how she had prevented the deaths of any of them. They were all clearly disabled, broken bones weren’t uncommon, but not a single life taken. Corunna couldn’t help but smile as she shared a simple fact: She was a mother, and whenever she fought, she couldn’t help but think ‘that’s someone’s baby…’ Corunna could not kill another if she could avoid it. Nar was impressed with the answer, and after asking her several questions about who and what she was, he accepted her cover story. An assassin that was trying to flee her former life with the recent birth of her child, she had been on the run from her handler who was both her baby’s father and had threw a fit when she said she was done. She said that she had just dropped her child off on Dantooine with family and was en route to meet someone that could give them new identities to live in the Republic when she was shot down by her former suitor and boss.
Nar gave her a different offer: Join his people and prove herself, and one day, she could leave to bring her son to Mandalore and live in what could be the most secure option for her in the galaxy, a place amongst the great Mandalorian Clans. Corunna accepted his offer, and despite being told by her superiors that she would be on Mandalore for an indeterminate time, she would still ask Nar every time she saw him if she could go get her son. He never verbally answered her, he would just close his eyes and shake his head sagely. Luckily, many of the clan quite enjoyed Corunna’s presence.
The woman who taught Corunna the Mandalorian way quickly became one of the best friends she had ever had. A Theelin woman, she only went by “Diva”. They bonded at first over a single connection between the two: They both had sons at nearly the same age. That bond spread into regular hunts together, Corunna eating dinner with Diva and her son every night, and long nights at the cantina talking. For the first year of her life on Mandalore, Corunna used her mission as a way to keep the pain of being so far from her family away. She threw herself into learning the Mandalorian way, and was shocked at how sophisticated their way of life really was. The woman couldn’t help but admire the odd culture, and was surprised at how many values they held that resounded with her own. Protect the young. Your family is your life. Fight those worthy to fight. Die with honor.
It was three months after Corunna’s one year anniversary that she was approached by Diva and Nar one late night. Diva had told Nar that Corunna was ready to be officially welcomed into Clan Hurnack, adopted into Diva’s family as her sister, and aunt to Diva’s son. Despite her mission, despite the agony of not being able to talk to, let alone see the ones she held dearest, Corunna truly did come to love Diva and her son, and truly did love the Mandalorian way of life… she accepted the offer when Nar asked if she desired to stand among them. That night Corunna received two gifts from the Clan: The first was a mythosaur skull tattoo she now has on her abdomen, just to the bottom left of her navel. The second was much more symbolic: A beskad that had belonged to Diva’s husband before he died, forged by Nar and blessed by the Clan. It was more of a long knife than a sword, and by chance, fit her palm perfectly. Almost as if the sword had been meant to be held by Corunna all this time, and was just waiting to be reunited.
Corunna did turn down one gift though: Nar had offered Corunna to help forge herself some beskar armor, like they all wore. She graciously denied the gift, and stated that she worked best without that kind of hindrance. Her weapons were her armor. Nar had smiled at Corunna the first time ever after that response. Apparently the man had great respect for someone who thought that.
For the rest of the year, Diva herself trained Corunna on how to use her particular beskad. The Theelin explained that this particular blade was meant for stealth operations. It was short enough to conceal, long enough to give some leverage, and sharp enough to cleave flesh from bone. It was meant for fast, rapid strikes more so than power. Corunna only liked the blade more and more as she used it. She didn’t know it yet, but Corunna would end up using that very blade until the day she died. It was during these sessions that Corunna and Diva became closer than ever. Diva had been the best friend Corunna ever had, besides Den of course, and the more Cor had to lie to Diva… the guiltier she felt about it all.
Sometime after the second year of her mission, Corunna had finally had enough. She was tired of lying to everyone, she missed Den and Ailin so fiercely that the entire two years she had been gone, Corunna had cried herself to sleep. She was done with the mission. She needed to get home.
Late one night, Corunna sat down with Diva and spilled her guts. Told the Theelin woman everything: who she was, what her mission was, how she had been lying to them the entire time… Corunna spoke, and cried, and screamed, and Diva simply sat and listened the entire time. Never interrupted, never armed herself, never called for help. After Corunna was done ranting, all Diva said was that she needed a drink. So then there they were, sipping brandy together and talking about everything. Corunna was stunned that Diva was so relaxed about it all. Until Diva explained that she knew all along. Diva was a cunning woman, and did not let someone into her home without knowing everything they could about the visitor. It took her a couple weeks, but eventually found her logs about her mission. Despite knowing that Corunna was a republic spy, she refused to turn Corunna in.
In fact, Diva was excited at the prospect of Republic Brass learning about who the Mandalorians were, not just how to kill them. Diva wanted it to be known that they were no different than anyone else, a culture to be respected and revered. And it helped that despite it all, she loved Corunna as a sister mere months into knowing her. She had just been patient with Corunna, and once her friend was ready, she’d reveal who she really was. However, it was well known to many that Nar would not be as forgiving. He wasn’t known for giving second chances, especially not to outsiders. Diva agreed to help Corunna escape, even if it meant betraying the clan. She planned to leave the planet with Corunna, and through her connections, join the Republic and give her son a new life.
The plan was simple: Get to the spaceport, steal a ship, and flee the planet. It was enacted during a birthday celebration, where the entire clan would join around a massive kiln, and celebrate. The plan went flawlessly up until they were in the spaceport. Corunna had climbed into a small freighter and was prepping for take off while Diva worked in the control room to remove the maglock from the ship. She was caught off guard, her last two acts were the removal of the maglock, and a comm to Corunna shouting for her to take off, to flee while she could. Corunna in a haze did as her surrogate sister said, and watched with teary eyes as space rose to greet her, only to streak into lines of light as she entered hyperspace, and escape the clutches of the Mandalorians…
Corunna arrived into Republic space and was nearly shot down by an interdictor before she could send a comm to them with the codes she was supposed to deliver upon entry to republic space: Momma commin’ home to the nest. Her former attacker became her salvation as they took her aboard the familiar ship. She was immediately checked over by medical droids and the ship doctor, and found to be in decent health. Corunna had lost some weight, and had a couple new scars from her life as a Mandalorian, but otherwise was healthy. As soon as that was tended to, a wave was immediately sent to Coruscant: Corunna Naaden had returned to the Republic.
There were no parades for her, and none were needed. Corunna returned to Coruscant to find her husband, her son, her sister and her friends waiting for her. She couldn’t keep her hands off any of them, the entire night filled with hugging, kissing, talking and celebrating. It was the happiest moment of Corunna’s life. It hurt her at first to be with her son though, it seemed he was still upset at the fact that she left, he barely spoke a word the entire night.
The Republic let Corunna recover for a couple weeks on her return, to let her assimilate and spend time with her family. When she returned to duty, it was to be promoted that day to Major, slated to answer directly to Brigadier General Denivan Ward. He had been promoted since she left. It was merely a week after she had been promoted that she received another surprise: She was pregnant again. It had taken Corunna and Den less than two weeks to get her pregnant. They had missed each other.
Maternity, Part II
Once more on maternity leave, Corunna was sure to spend lots of time her Ailin, he was quiet at first, but after a couple months, warmed up to his old self again. She was so proud of her lil’ man, he was so mature for being so young, like he carried the world on his tiny shoulders. Every night while she was pregnant, before Ailin went to bed he would kiss Corunna’s tummy, and whisper ‘good night baby’. He was the sweetest little boy.
This baby was a bit more stubborn than Ailin was, nearly three weeks late when she finally decided to be born. Den and Corunna were greeted by dazzling blue eyes and a miniature version of Den’s smile: their first daughter was born. Corunna already had a name picked the minute she found out it was a girl. They named their first daughter Diva- after the dear friend that allowed Corunna to return. It wasn’t a traditional name at all, but Den approved of it in the end.
As time went on, it became more and more apparent that Diva was a tiny Den in female form. She had his same silver-blonde hair, his eyes, his smile, his nose. It wasn’t until later that they found what Diva had in common with Corunna. From the minute Diva could crawl, the baby was zipping around the apartment. The baby had endless energy, just like Corunna had. Ailin was an amazing older brother, he constantly played with and kept an eye on Diva for his mother, allowing her precious minutes of alone time.
She went on leave for a while to raise the kids, the two children alone took up so much of her time, that it was more than a job. Luckily, she had her lil’ man to help her. Life was hectic, but it was routine. Wake up, tend to kids, get Ailin off to school, exercise, feed the baby, shower, pick up Ailin from school, help with homework, cook dinner, relax, then bed.
Den was able to be home on the weekends, his higher position let him be near Coruscant more, but there were still times where he’d be gone for weeks. Life was pleasant, peaceful, predictable. As much as Corunna loved her family, she still pined to be out in the field again, to take up an active role again. Luckily she had her sister to talk to. The two women picked up everything like Corunna had never left, daily holo calls and weekly visits were had, and Corunna’s two kids loved their ‘Aunt Aspen’. Corunna was very impressed by the work her sister had been doing, and had been apparently quite busy since her going under cover. When Aspen would later be elected as the new Supreme Chancellor, Corunna would take up the mantle as her sister’s personal advisor on the subject of Mandalorians.
When she finally couldn’t take it anymore, Corunna began to start the process to get back into active duty. However, life would have a different plan, as usual. Days after she began the process, Corunna discovered once more: She was pregnant. Corunna took back her request, and instead filed for another maternity leave.
Maternity, Part III
During her third pregnancy, Corunna continued to keep in close contact with Aspen, and the two soon saw each other nearly every day. Asp had become as close as Diva had been, if not closer through their sisterhood. They had spent so much time together, that it wasn’t too unsurprising when Corunna began to go into labor right during a nice dinner at Aspen’s house with the entire family. She actually had her second daughter there, and upon seeing the child, knew her name. The baby was a complete copy of Corunna, only exception was the tip of the baby’s nose, which dipped down instead of up like. She named the baby girl Anora Aspen Naaden. Anora in the same language as Ailin’s name, literally translated to ‘little me’.
Anora was a sweet, quiet baby. She was always smiling, but never made much noise. Ailin and Diva were very gentle with little Anora, and the three kids were very attached to one another. Now with three kids, Corunna and Den hired a nanny to help them out. A large Besalisk woman named Elga would take up the role, the four armed woman turned out to be a natural fit into the family, despite Elga looking far from human. Since Corunna began to have more free time through Elga, she returned from leave as a wetwork operative for the 414. Her missions were quick, hard and to the point. It allowed her to be gone mere days instead of weeks or months. It allowed her to both be a mother, and an agent of the Republic.
Corunna proved that she worked just as well solo as when working with a team. She was efficient, clean, and precise. Her success rate was quite high. She would continue doing ops for a while, mostly solo ops but would occasionally work in a duo or group. It wasn’t until a particularly touchy mission that Corunna decided to stop doing wetwork operations. Supposed to sabotage and destroy a pirate space station, nearly every member of her squad was slaughtered before they could escape, the only survivors being Corunna and one other. Corunna received her worst scar from that instance, a nasty burn on the side of her right calf. She would always keep that leg covered in public.
When she returned to the Republic after that mission, she put in a request for a desk job. Her assignment was a good one: To run the entire recruiting operation for one of Dantooine’s largest regions: The Morntl Plains. The entire family moved to the quiet planet of Dantooine, staying in the largest spaceport in the area: Soaring Port.
Let The Sunshine
During this time, Corunna let herself relax for the first time. Her family was happy and healthy, her job kept her satisfied well enough. She played an active role in her kid’s school PTA, and was well known in her community. Unfortunately, in that time, Ailin had begun to act differently. The warm, gentle, kind Ailin was replaced by a whole different one. He was no sullen, and secretive about everything. Corunna just attributed it to him being a teenager, since she could think of no other cause. From this though, Diva and Anora began to bond more and more, until it was rare to ever see one without the other. This made Corunna happy to watch.
Despite working a desk job now, Corunna was still very active, she kept herself in peak condition, and even was a part of Soaring Port’s sport shooting clubs. She tried to stay as active as possible, to keep her mind off Den when he was offworld. When she wasn’t doing anything related to her job, children or hobbies, she would normally be on a holo with Aspen. Her sister was more readily available than Den during those days. The two women could carry a conversation as well as if they were in person, and many an hour was spent with the two talking.
The happiest Corunna ever was, was whenever Den was home. During those days, ‘Den Days’ as she began to call them, Corunna was sure to not have anything scheduled so she could spend time with her man. Those days seemed to be the only one’s Corunna saw Ailin anymore, the moody teenager was always ‘out with friends’ unless Den was home.
Life was quiet. Life was sweet.
It wouldn’t last.
Shelter
Around the time Corunna turned forty one, the worst would happen. Den was a part of a supply convoy, and an unknown enemy overwhelmed and ravaged the convoy. The enemy left no survivors, nor ships. They had all literally been decimated. Neighbors said the scream that sounded from Corunna’s house was unlike anything they had heard before. The cause would be Corunna when she opened the door to see Erle in full dress and with a black ribbon pinned to his collar. Tradition in the 414, was the deceased’ best friend in the unit deliver the news to the family, while wearing a black ribbon. So when Erle Sampson arrived that day, what would have normally been a warm hug in greeting was replaced by Corunna collapsing and bawling at the top of her lungs.
A headstone was put up in an empty grave next to the tree where Den and Corunna had wed. They had already decided that when they passed on, that they’d be buried next to that special dantl tree. After first hearing the news, Corunna never let herself cry in front of anyone else. She stayed as strong as possible for her children, all three taking their father’s death poorly. Ailin rarely ever spoke anymore after everything that had happened, and Corunna would be lucky to get more than five words from him a week. Diva and Anora truly bonded with one another during that time in their lives. Life became harder and harder, without Den’s income, Corunna’s desk job wasn’t bringing in the kind of credits she needed to keep up with their house payments. On top of keeping her kids in private schools, it was all too much. She drank more than ever during those years. It was the only thing that lulled her to sleep anymore, nights she tried sober were literally spent in the fetal position clutching at her chest at the pain of loss that possessed her. That was life for the first year after Den’s death. And life would only get darker.
The next year, tragedy would continue to strike Corunna and her family. Her oldest daughter, Diva, had been diagnosed with a rare cancer. The only treatment available was quite expensive, but Corunna would be damned if she let her daughter suffer and die. Unfortunately, this would be a large drop of water into an already full bucket. Corunna could no longer make ends meet with just her position at the recruiter’s office. By this point, Corunna’s habits had gotten worse. Along with drinking more and more, she began experimenting with spice, hearing it could take the pain away better. She became addicted to it, and once more, her finances were in chaos.
Corunna began stripping at another port city far from Soaring Port. She mostly did it to pay for her habits, once more grateful to Diva for showing her how to do more than fight. What Theelin didn’t know how to dance? She began to hate herself more and more as the next two years crawled by. Never did she speak with Ailin anymore, and Diva and Anora had almost become autonomous, taking care of each other more than Corunna give them each. Corunna was completely unbalanced in life, ashamed of her habit and the means which she used to sustain it, ashamed at what a horrible mother she had become, ashamed that she now slept with her spice dealer. Ashamed. Ashamed.
It wasn’t until a couple months before she turned 43 that things changed. Corunna’s best friend at the recruiter’s office was a twi’lek woman named La’nadel, and she had been saddened by how far Corunna had fallen since Den’s death. She had organized an intervention for Corunna, who had argued for hours that she had no choice but to do what she did. It took nearly ten hours of talking, but eventually, she agreed to go to rehab, and let Elga take care of her kids until she returned.
The detox was rough on Corunna, spice was a most potent drug. She fought through the nightmares and hallucinations that taunted and tortured her. For two weeks, she was convinced a zombified Den had been following her. But three months later, three months of physical, mental, and emotional hell, Corunna’s doctor had decided it was time for her to pick up her life again. It would be time to rejoin her family. And she agreed. For the first time in years, Corunna felt good. Her body was clean once more, she quit stripping at the sleazy club, stopped seeing the dealer, and once more, dived into her kids’ life the best she could. Diva and Anora completely forgave their mother, just happy to be with her again. Ailin was another story…
Break
Another three months passed, and Corunna had been clean for six months total, with no signs, and no desires to revert. She still mourned her husband constantly, and despite her best efforts, could not get Ailin to talk to her. Her daughters continued to flourish though, both were the top of their classes, both were excellent athletes, and both far too smug for their own good. But despite everything with her son, Corunna could not help but be filled with pride at her daughters, and how they were looking to follow in their aunt’s footsteps. Diva even began to start to resemble Asp as she became a teenager. Life was finally beginning to achieve a balance for the first time in years, life was beginning to feel good again. However, others were plotting. Not purposefully against Corunna, but their plans would uproot Corunna and her family again.
The Sith invaded Dantooine.
Within hours Morntl plains would be decimated, Soaring Port was a slaughterhouse, Sith troopers and actual Sith poured into the streets, killing indiscriminately, interdictors awaited in space above the planet, yanking shuttles and other fleeing ships from escaping. Corunna was at the recruiter’s office when it all happened, and immediately took command of her token force she had, and began to organize the cities defenses and escape plans. She took the moniker ‘Momma Dog’ that day for their comms. La’nadel had suggested it from a comment Corunna had said one day: ‘If anyone ever messes with one of my babies, momma dog gonna tear throats out’. And that is exactly what happened.
Their office had been turned into a makeshift command center, and after organizing everything for civilians to escape on routine shuttles, she ordered a squad to go out into the city and aid refugees. And to give any Sith they saw hell. She went off alone, her body instantly moving from memory in ways that one trained as a wetwork operative would. With her rifle shouldered Corunna personally went to her kids’ school to evacuate the kids. She found Diva and Anora, but apparently they said that Ailin had run off towards the spaceport. Corunna ordered La’nadel to get a squad out to escort the students, and to have a shuttle ready and waiting to immediately evacuate them. Once she made sure her girls were in good hands, she left to find her son, her lil’ man.
She searched and searched for over an hour until she finally caught a glimpse of him. Corunna snuck up to where he was, and listened. They were all standing around a shuttle with the Sith insignia plastered on the side. Ailin stood there talking to four humans in officer apparel, clearly Sith as well. What she heard though would stun her. The officers were congratulating Ailin for his role in the invasion. How the bombs he had made and set up strategically around Soaring Port had been integral to its sacking. As soon as Corunna heard this, she had had enough. Her scope snapped to the face of an older mustached man. His head exploded like a melon. The second officer was a pretty red headed female. She took two shots in the chest. The last two turned to run away, and Corunna downed them. Two shots to the back each.
Corunna stormed over to her son, who now knelt weeping over the red head. He screamed her name over and over, tears pattered onto the ground as he held her hand. Corunna began to realize what had happened. She recognized the girl’s name: Sissa. Sissa was Ailin’s girlfriend. Sissa was a Sith officer. She was a spy. An operative. Ailin noticed Corunna as she approached, and immediately attacked his mom. He knew how to fight, his parents had been sure of that, but Corunna batted away his strikes. He screamed and cursed the entire time, calling his mother things that no person ever would. Finally frustrated, he pulled a blaster pistol from his belt, and in response, Corunna shouldered her rifle.
They stood there, mother and son, for what felt like decades, staring each other down. Tears fell from Ailin’s eyes, and they fell from Corunna’s too. She whispered ‘why?’ to him, and in response, saw him tense to pull the trigger. But this wasn’t her first stand off. Her trigger finger was much faster than his. That day, the day Dantooine burned, was also the day Corunna killed her first born, and only son.
She returned to the evacuation site just as the last shuttles were leaving. Corunna literally left on the last shuttle out of Soaring Port, and watched through the window as the sun fell, and her city burned. On the ship High Charity, which had been sent to aid in the evacuation of Dantooine, Corunna reunited with her daughters and the rest of her unit. The girls cried instantly when they saw their mom, both out of happiness to see her, and out of sadness, as Ailin clearly wasn’t with them.
Corunna was about to tell them exactly what happened, everything that had happened… when she realized, that she didn’t want her son to be remembered as a betrayer of his people. Instead Corunna told them the tale of Ailin as a hero, how she had found him fighting off the Sith with a rag tag group of teenagers, using everyday items and a few weapons to resist the Sith. How he had saved her life from a Dark Jedi, choosing to stay and fight him while his mother escaped with his friends. And was then killed by the Sith, but not before pulling the pin on a grenade Corunna had given him. Everyone believed her, and Ailin became a legend among the 414. Nearly every baby boy born that next year within the 414, had been named Ailin. Little did Corunna know, but that little legend would come back to meet her later on.
Forward, Unto Hope
Corunna was decorated and promoted for her feats on Dantooine. If Corunna hadn’t done what she did, it would have been likely that almost everyone within Soaring Port would have died. She proved that she was more than an excellent soldier, she was a capable and natural leader as well. Corunna formally requested to become as active into the war effort as possible. With some political tinkerings via Asp, Corunna was made a Colonel, and put in charge of the Republic’s Special Forces Division. Colonel Naaden was ready to make a difference.
The fires within Corunna would only be stoked further as she began going over all notes about the Sith. She discovered that Den’s convoy had been proven to have been attacked by a Sith fleet, but it had been kept under wraps until recently. In the year to follow, Corunna would throw herself into learning. Learning about the enemy, learning new and ancient tactics, learning how to end the Sith threat. She personally lead several battles over the past year, and has continued to impress her superiors, and her people. So far, Colonel Corunna Naaden has held the record for the lowest casualty rate out of any Special Forces officer before. Her protectiveness and willingness to do anything for her soldiers endeared her greatly to them. She continued to use the call sign ‘Momma Dog’ ever since Dantooine. The troops saw it as motherly and endearing, Corunna saw it as a way to remember why she fought.
Corunna lives on Coruscant now, but is only there half the time. She was constantly busy with the war effort, and was working as Asp’s personal military advisor as well. Her daughters ended up not minding it too much, both had become enrolled in Coruscant’s most prestigious academy, once again with some help from Asp, and were both busy with their classes and extra-curricular activities. But still Corunna would spend as much time with her daughters as she could, every moment she has to be exact. The past year, the Naaden name would become more and more spoken. And it would be in a way Corunna had not expected, but was happy that it had happened.
Ixai Dallon, the visionary Bith holomovie maker, had caught wind of the tale of Ailin. He was so inspired by the story, that he personally sought out Corunna to ask permission to use what he heard for a film. Corunna was surprised to say the least, but realized how good that would be. Her son would forever be known as a hero, and her sister would get some good press for her continued run at Supreme Chancellor.
Adagio for Ailin was a huge success, hailed by fans and critics alike. People the Republic over considered it one of the most heartfelt, inspiring films ever seen. An instant classic many said. Even Corunna could not help but enjoy the film, and wouldn’t admit it, but greatly approved of the hot, confident, strong willed actress chosen to play Ailin’s mother. She was a better Corunna than Corunna. Despite the media swarm surrounding the movie, Corunna and her sister made sure to keep the press well away from the family that inspired the movie, and luckily, the actors and Ixai were more than happy to take the credit for the movie.
Despite the Sith steadily gaining more and more ground, Corunna is confident the Republic will stand. Damned it if she didn’t fight to the very last breath to protect it, and protect her troops, and protect her family. She would continue to move forward, unto better times, and peaceful times. She would fight.

There were few feelings in this galaxy like that of hefting a rifle to your shoulder and letting loose hell in the form of plasma. Enemy bolts blasted past as well, flying by with a charge of static electricity with every near miss. Unlucky for the enemy though, their target wasn’t just firing blindly. A dark amber eye peered through the scope of her rifle, slow and steady as she lined up each shot then unleashed a bolt or two to insure a kill. Her kill count was already outdoing most of her squad. Which was sad considering this particular group was supposed to be fresh out of the academy and ready to kill. Apparently little boys playing war were still those boys in a true war.
Republic Colonel Corunna Naaden exhaled and moved her gaze to the small holomap on the table next to her. She shifted away from the rifle she had been using to snipe the enemy soldiers to look at it better. Left flank was well protected by the gat lazer she had set up there, the heavy and his back up obviously holding well. Right flank was strong too, her best snipers set up with a clear field ahead of them. Minute anyone tried to take that field, her troopers were wrathful gods laying their judgment down. The Colonel’s real trouble was her center flank. Seemed that was where the majority of enemy troopers had started to push, thus why the woman had been laying in dirt sniping instead of trying to keep an eye on things. Luckily her skills were kept sharp with regular visits to the ranges as well as actual field combat itself. The enemy had backed off for a moment, but the minute they realized she had stopped sniping, they’d start again. Her center flank needed reinforcements, and fast. Corunna fingered her earpiece to message her people.
“This is Momma Dog. I need Fefi and Flicker front and center. Squad Delta and Kilo, split off from current group and bolster them. I need my flanks back ladies and gentlemen, make your Momma proud.”
Her tone was curt, to the point. But her message was one of support. Corunna’s troops knew her well, and knew that she had one of the smallest casualty rates of anyone of her rank. The woman’s tiny holomap bleeped as her soldiers began to move. Tiny blue triangles moving fluidly to their destinations, she smiled to see the unity that her unit had achieved in such a short time. It then bleeped some more to show several larger red triangles moving to start the attack again. The Colonel’s jaw set a bit tighter and she fingered her earpiece.
“This is Momma Dog. Delta and Kilo, entrench and hold position. Keep Flicker and Fefi covered while they do their thing. Enemy spearhead en route to you. Momma gonna call on some Angels.”
She pulled out her datapad and with swift, practiced motions sent a relay to the Republic fleet overhead to send an airstrike. They would need time though, time her center flank wouldn’t have much longer without support. Corunna uttered a silent prayer to herself and moved to the rifle. With a fluid grace she bent low to pick up the rifle then kneel down to steady her aim. The scope whirred and clicked as it adjusted, and as soon as the enemy was in sight, she pulled the trigger…
With a gasp and a shudder Corruna sat up suddenly. Everything was pitch black and cool. Her body quivered from a cold breeze that was only exacerbated by the damp sweat making her clothes stick to her body. Another one… She thought as she moved a hand up to wipe her dampened face with her sheets. For the past few months, she had been dreaming of the few battles that took place after Dantooine. Dantooine… what a nightmare that truly was…
Corunna reached over and touched the pad to turn on her rooms lights. A soft glow lit up and she looked down at herself and cursed. A now empty glass of wine had obviously spilled when she had finally fallen asleep. Her white tank top and pajama shorts were now branded with reddish purple. The last of her Dorell 3632 too. Damn. She sighed and clambered off her bed. Still half asleep and half drunk, she slid out of her stained pajamas and was in a fresh set not long after. Her footsteps would pad silently upon her carpet to her door. She needed some water.
After a quick few steps she moved down the hall into the sparse kitchen. It wasn’t exactly filled to the brim with appliances like some mothers. Spartan in comparison. She inhaled sharply at the cold tile on the bottoms of her feet as Corunna stepped gingerly to her cooler. With a slight hiss she opened the door and bent down to look into it better. Plenty of food for her girls, and a bottle of Alderaanian fruit juice for her. Delicious. Corunna had pulled out the bottle and was just opening it to drink straight from the carton when someone cleared their throat. With the carton already just barely touching her lips, Corunna looked over with her dark eyes to see her twelve year old, Anora. Anora gave her mother a look that was all too familiar to the woman, as it was her eyes who looked at her disapprovingly with a single lifted and arched eyebrow. Damn. Caught again…
“Mom. Really? Straight for the carton? No glass? This isn’t the field, y’know.”
Sass. What a surprise. And of course, in her typical way that was WAY too similar to the girl’s aunt, she chided her own mother. Corunna couldn’t help but smile sheepishly and look down in embarrassment. Her head nodded in agreement and set the carton down on the counter before reaching up to the shelf to grab a pair of glasses for them.
“Sorry baby, you want some?”
Corunna asked, her voice still hinted of being tired. She brought down the glasses and poured a bit of the fancy juice into each glass. With two fingers on her left hand Corunna gestured to the counter table in the middle of the kitchen and moved to set the glasses down, one in front of her, the other in front of her raven-haired daughter as she slid onto a stool. A literal tiny carbon copy of Corunna, Anora had her hair, her eyes, and her mouth. Only thing of her father was her nose, that same slightly pointy shape that gave the girl’s face a bit more of a keen look than her own slightly upturned one. Corunna grinned at her youngest daughter before tilting her head to the right and giving Anora a mischievous grin that got a suspicious one in return. Corunna clicked her tongue and raised her eyebrows before saying.
“So, I saw on your social net that Tano Pilter posted that he wanted to take you out this weekend… you gonna go?”
She snickered at the flush that turned Anora’s olive skin a deep shade of red. Corunna reached her left hand out to grab her daughter’s hand and squeezed gently.
“It’s ok baby, Your daddy didn’t ask me out any better… “
