I looked into a couple of the issues, here's what changed:

Links: As you may have noticed, highlighted links now have an underline and an overline like they did in v4.5. Hope everyone's okay with that.

New Icon: I brightened the background a little bit so it should stand out a bit more but hopefully not be too glaring.

Timestamps: I couldn't find a way to change the time stamps from the '# minutes ago'. I didn't look at the CSS or the true html code however as even if I located it in the code, I would have no idea what the code to change it would be.

I've discovered in the time since posting about it that if you hover your mouse over the timestamp the actual time a post was made will show up. So it's not exactly the same but it works well enough for me to be sated :3

Is there a way to bring back the way you could click on images that have been resized by the board to have the full-size one open up in a new tab? Just realized that's not a thing anymore, unless it's just being weird for me. I can still right click -> open in new tab for the same effect, though. Just wondering.

Yes, the whitening of them helps quite a lot, actually. They no longer blend in so much. Thanks.

Something I just noticed...

I was going to the galaxy map to look at it, and clicked on it to enlarge it like usual... but now with v5, it takes me right to your Photobucket library, Jenno. So, um, not sure if you want that to happen?
Plus, the image that you get, it isn't much larger. It's clear, but you (at least, I do) have to peer close to read the planet names.
Not sure if there's a better way to embed the image or something?


While I'm here, something I noticed even before the change to v5 is that the link to the plot/Story Thread listed in the description for the Announcements board no longer works. Looks like it's still a holdover before Proboards changed their servers. (The link still has a server number in it). So this just needs updating.

Alright, shiny, the other issues I'll try and get to in the next few days.

Images: The image resizing was an old code I introduced on v4.5 because otherwise it would cause the page to stretch. However, it seems as though in v5 such a feature is built in. I'll take a look to see if there's a piece of code that will provide the expanding in a separate window option. I took a look and couldn't find anything, but it is still early days.

Galaxy Map: This has me confused, it does as you've stated, but I have not altered the code at all. In fact, I redid the link/image in the post and it does the same thing, even though I am using the direct image link. I have noticed that if I click it and it opens with the photobucket library image in a new tab, if I click on the Galaxy Map image, in the thread, again (with the library tab still open) it opens up the Galaxy Map as it should. When the library tab pops up it does have in the html something to do with a beta, so I assume this is something on photobucket's end. But if this is to be a permanent change or doesn't get sorted soon then I guess I'm just going to have to move the images to a different host, one that actually works as I want it to.

Story Thread Link: Thank you for pointing that out, I've edited it and it should now work.

Lemur, The Kool-Aid Guy - I don't see why it's so bad and I don't really see us changing back, it's easier to staff now that the accounts in the box are automatically linked with those on the forum, not as many stolen username issues for guests and such. Also, I don't want to pay $20 a year for one or two minor features that the shoutbox doesn't have, it's not much, but it builds up over time.

In response to Lemur I can see where he's coming from. The new box is very large and spaced out which I know rubbed me up the wrong way initially. I myself prefer the smaller and more compact cboxes. What I would say though is despite that, the account linking is far more of a benefit than the size is a downfall.

Just my two cents. We now have four. :3

My only two cents about the Shoutbox vs. the C'box is that I miss the feature with the C'box where you could look back to previous posts, with that pop-up. Granted, if the posts were really old, they'd be gone, too, but with the Shoutbox, they disappear a lot more quickly. In the rare case that there is a roaring discussion down there (since more often than not, the place is dead), it was nice to be able to check back to what was said. Just my opinion.


Another comment I have about something that can't be changed is the User Notes. (I think in v5 they're called Personal notes now). In v4, the user notes would show up right in your profile... but now, in order to view the personal notes, one has to go in to edit their profile to see them. And for me, I use my notes A LOT. I have a lot of stuff in there. It's not so bad; it's just a couple extra steps to read them, and there's no longer any visible formatting for organization. So I can deal with it (just like the shoutbox). So this is just a comment, not a real feedback that needs fixing (since I don't think it can be fixed).



But all in all...  I am slowly getting used to v5 over v4, and it's growing on me. Soon, I won't be able to remember the old version and will wonder why I ever thought it was better. ;p
So kudos to Proboards... hopefully it leaves beta soon, and I can figure out my own forums in v5.

Just to let you guys know I asked on the support boards about a couple of the Shoutbox things. It seems very unlikely there will be an expansion to the history of the shoutbox, but I was directed to a plugin to add sound every time someone posts something. So I went ahead and set that up, initially it won't play a sound but you can turn it on at the touch of a button. It should also remember the option if you restart your browser, though I've not seen if it remembers your option after a computer restart.

However, it only works with more recent versions of internet browsers. The list put up by the plugin's creator is as follows:

Internet Explorer 9+
Chrome 6+
Firefox 3.6+
Safari 5+
Opera 10+


Hope that helps some of you that wanted the sound option back!

Mara - You said you didn't need a fix or anything, but I spotted a quicker way to get to them. Now whatever page you're on if you look at the bottom right you should see four little images (there were three previously) if you click the one furthest on the right it should open a new window which takes you straight to the page where you can read/edit your personal notes. Don't know if it really helps much but there you go.
