v5 Upgrade: Comments, concerns, queries!

Hey folks,

Silas and I just finished updating the site. It took a little longer than we thought and there were a number of unexpected issues we had to iron out. But we got the majority of things done and we believe it's finished. Like I mentioned in my PMs, there were a few things we couldn't change or that changed automatically with the update.

However, there are likely to be issues that need fixing, questions that need answering, this thread is here so that you can ask those things. Or if you'd like to make general comments about things you like, things you don't like then that gives us something to think about. I hope you do all enjoy the way things are now. And don't be afraid to comment!

Actually I have real feedback. Minor thing, but the subforumy thing, not sure what it's called. When you are in a subforum and it has a navigation heading. Like for this thread it is:

Star Wars Universe RP > Forum Feedback, Suggestions & Questions

In the last version, that was small and hard to read. Now it's much more obvious. Again, a small thing - but I like the improvement.

Gotta say, I agree with Snarly about the navigation headings being easier to read; much much nicer. If there's one thing I miss, it's a header that links to a list of recent posts; I found a link to "recent threads" down at the bottom, so I'm glad it's not totally gone, but I do miss having it in the header.

Anyways onto Extreme Makeover: SWU Edition!

I liked the buttons at the top better with v4. In fact, I liked all the clicks better with v4, because of how it highlighted and stuff. The shoutbox is frickin' amazing, but sometimes it doesn't auto-update. May just be the little refresh button in the bottom I need to stop playing with.

Otherwise, I love it so far. it looks nice and smooth. I love the way everything is listed on the left. And it's like Twitter meets Facebook meets Proboards. Followers, liking posts, the Participated tab. Makes it a lot easier for me to stalk see what my fellow SWUvians are up to.

So far, I'm enjoying it more than v4. Just'll take awhile to get used to.

Now, something that's actually important. Badges. What are they and how do we get them and what purpose do they serve?

I like it :3 Been awaiting the upgrade and it's been as well as I hoped it would be.

One thing I've noticed is that sometimes in the SHOUTBOX if a message is long enough to have a line break it'll just squash the word up against the far edge and carry the rest of it over. But it doesn't do it gracefully, on the edge of a syllable, like you see in books. It just cuts it off wherever it decides the limit for the line is and shoves the rest of the word down to the next line, far as I've seen. It looks a bit awkward and can make someone take pause when reading. Surprised it doesn't just move the word down like the old box did.

But I'm not really certain that's anything you guys can fix either, so it might just be something to deal with. Not a huge deal either way.

Other than that, generally liking what we've got here. The drop down menus for navigation are heavenly. Just taking some time to get used to the rest of things for now.

Question...

Is there a way to make the time stamp on posts appear as the time it was posted from the get go instead of waiting however long it takes for it to switch to that instead of the few minutes ago -> hours ago thing?

It's not a huge deal, but it's a little annoying. But I just prefer to see the time itself rather than relative to now, whenever now is. I'm fooling around in my settings to see if there's something there, but I haven't found anything yet...


Edit: Also for mobile users, if you log on and swu is all white and blue, you're on the mobile version of the site. Just scroll to the bottom of the page and hit 'desktop' and you should see it normally

I've also been having an issue with the post option thing running of the edge of the main area and not being able to see. Like this:

But for another question, is the reply box sopposed to be this little tiny two inch box?

Could you post a screenshot of the shoutbox and reply box as it appears to you? The reply box looks decent sized to me, so a screenshot would help us know what you're talking about.

Considering I've been using v5 for the past few months on Support, I've gotten a bit used to the differences already. So no major surprises.

Though, since I actually went through my profile on here, I have to admit I liked the fact that I could reset/change my birth date. I no longer have to hide it because it was wrong.

Any further comments will have to wait, as I get used to things. (I'm honestly only on Support to PM a friend, so that's really all I've been exposed to, mostly).



PS: Nice to see Proboards catching up to other forum hosts. V5 reminds me a lot of Invision now.

Oooh, look at SWU all fancy and such! All new and shiny and curvy!
I haven't experienced any crippling issues but there is a little niggle, nothing really though.
The bubbles that display the number of notifications above the profile icon doesn't seem to be disappearing and tends to just stay there despite me reading the notifications.
Other than that things look fantastic. Congratulations guys!
