Biography: Garel Varkin was born on August 1st, 3698 BBY on his homeworld of Bastion. He grew up in a wealthy family of merchants who controlled a moderate trade ring in the sector. Growing up with privileges Garel was always ambitious and manipulative when it came to his servants and fellow children and always had his way. Garel was the kid known to rule the playground in a figure of speech and loved being in control of things and never let his fears get the best of him. Garel always achieved his teachers expectations and was a top tier student throughout his years and was always a favorite of his superiors as he never let them see his real self. This manipulation allowed him to excel at his education but also instill fear into his rivals and came off as untouchable. Even his parents praised him for this activity and encouraged this personality as they were just as devious and deceitful as he. Running a trade ring had its advantages and when the time to deal with those who would see your business destroyed came along, Garel and his father were quick to deal with it. This was usually by hiring thugs or doing it themselves and thanks to this Garel learned early on how to defend himself and make others talk.
In his late teens Garel started to become the heir of his fathers trade ring right around the time of the Great Galactic War when the Sith Empire emerged after 100 years. This was a delight to the Varkin family as they quickly fell in with Sith affiliates and expanded their trade ring beyond the Braxant Sector. To this, the Varkins became a highly respected family in the Sith Empire and one of the wealthiest in Sith space. Though not everything would last as Garels father would soon be murdered by Republic extremist who wanted to deal a blow to the Sith Empire and by killing Garels father they hit the Bastion economy. Many thought that Garel would take over the business as his father intended but Garel had other plans. Using his families connections he was able to get a commission in the Sith Navy at 18 and trained for 4 years in extreme hand to hand combat and officer training academies on an undisclosed location and perfected his skills beyond anything he expected. Some say he was trained by a Sith and others say he was in a top secret Sith program for advanced soldiers, no one knows. But they do know that he became quite skilled in combat and tactical training and gained enough leadership capabilities to get promoted to Commander by the time he graduated.
In 3678 BBY, Garel was assigned to a Terminus-class Destroyer in orbit of Korriban as part of the defense fleet and served as the Executive Officer. After getting settled into his new position and quickly putting the ship into tip top shape and enforcing even the simplest policies, Garel quickly made a name for himself as a no nonsense officer and gained the respect of his superiors and admiration of his subordinates. Although not every crewman agreed with the strict rules they respected the need for order aboard starships and quickly fell in line. In the same year, a Republic fleet launched an attack against the planet and the defense fleet was quickly tossed into action. Reporting to the bridge 21 year old Garel was about to get his first taste of actual ship to ship combat and would impress everyone, including himself, with his actions that day. After a enemy turbolaser hit the ships Comm systems it overloaded and sent an electrical surge throughout the ship which injured many and killed a few crewmen, including the ships Captain. Taking over command of the Destroyer Garel quickly began firing at enemy weapon systems and disabled a Republic ship long enough for a Dreadnought to destroy it. Taking advantage of the Republic counter attack Garel quickly ordered his ship to the flank of the enemy fleet and caused them to face his ship allowing the Sith defense fleet to tear through their ships. Because of this, Garel was promoted to Captain and given command of the Destroyer and became one of the youngest officers to get the command.
In 3671 BBY, after the humilating loss at the First Battle of Bothawui the Sith Empire formed a larger fleet together, which included Varkins flotilla who was now 28 years old, and sent them to Bothawui again to crush the Republic forces and gain vengeance. Captain Varkin met up with the rest of the fleet and soon commenced the assault on the planet as Varkin and his fleet engaged the defense forces in orbit. After awhile of ship to ship combat the Sith fleet was able to destroy most of the defense force but was soon pulled into a ground war as neither fleet could gain the upper hand. Captain Varkin was assigned to coordinate planet side communications and order tactical strikes at the enemy army. Despite losing most of their 50,000 strong army, the Sith Empire were able to pull a victory over the Republic forces after their leader, Jedi Master Allusis and his forces, pulled one final stand to significantly hurt the Imperial forces before dying. After this sacrifice the Imperial forces were able to secure the planet with reinforcements after their heavy losses. Thanks to his effort in the battle Captain Varkin was awarded a military honor for displaying leadership and tactical command in the victory of Bothawui which proved to be a rallying call for the Empire and served to remind the Republic the price of resistance. After this, Captain Varkin was assigned command of the defense fleet of Bothawui for the next year.
In 3670 BBY, 7 years after the Battle of Korriban Captain Garel Varkin was assigned to the fleet that was going to siege and take Balmorra. To this, he would soon learn the price of patience and victory as the years spent taking this planet would prove his worth in the Sith Empire and assure his rise through the ranks. Under the command of Admiral Ivernus the Sith fleet entered orbit of Balmorra and quickly started to take out the planets orbital defenses and the fleet guarding it after days of fighting. In this, Captain Varkin was said to have commanded admirably and with calm skill as his ship personally took down 4 Republic frigates and many fighters. After the Sith fleet took full control of Balmorra's orbit and sent millions of troops down to the surface to capture the planet Captain Varkin was assigned patrol duty within the planets atmosphere and coordinated starfighter and bomber assaults on key locations around the planet for the next few years. In this large time span, Captain Varkin would run patrol duties and strategic bombing of key military locations as well as one of the officers tasked with monitoring Balmorran Resistance movements and communications from the atmosphere. In 3665 BBY, when most of the troops were killed on the surface most of the fleet was reassigned to other theaters of the Empire and that included Captain Varkin. Due to an opening in the ranks thanks to promotions and causalities, Garel was promoted to Commodore and given a flotilla of his own and sent to rendezvous with a Sith fleet to perform anti-resistance duties.
For years after, Commodore Garel Varkin would shift from command to command as he was constantly being reassigned over the years as the theater of war grew bigger and the need for experienced and capable officer grew larger with every death racked up on their side. Soon however the chance for action would show itself in the form of Ord Radama. But this battle would prove to be Garel Varkins first defeat in battle, even if he was not leading the fleet. Linking up under the command of Darth Venemal and his fleet Varkin and Imperial forces soon attacked Ord Radama. It would soon turn into an 86 day long campaign to secure the planet which resisted Imperial rule until 3660 BBY when the Sith forces invaded. By now, Garel was 36 years old and nearing promotion in the ranks of the Imperial Navy. As the attack commenced Commodore Varkin was given strategic command under Darth Malgus and Darth Venemal who were leading the battle. While Commodore Varkin secured a blockade in orbit of the planet and was left in strategic command, Darths Malgus and Venemal led the assault planet side. After the Sith Lords attacked the captial city for weeks and were reinforced by the arrival of Darth Adraas and his droids which caused a distraction for Imperial troops to enter the city. Garel was then ordered to commence air strikes on resistance hot spots and to send down supplies planet side for the Imperial troops. However, supplies started to run low as a Republic fleet of Cruisers and Corvettes attacked the system. Darth Malgus then took command away from Commodore Varkin to lead the fleet himself but was soon faced with the loss of most of his fleet as his capital ship fell to the surface of the planet and wiped out the capital city, killing Darth Venemal as well. On orders to retreat, Garel and his remaining ships retreated from the system after a huge loss to their numbers and supplies. Because of his actions prior to the battle and years of service Commodore Varkin was promoted to Rear Admiral Lower Half by High Command and given command of a Harrower-class Dreadnought and a small fleet of ships.
In 3653 BBY, 7 years after the Battle of Ord Radama and the loss faced by the Republic as well as the defense of Ziost and Korriban the Imperial forces went on a long advance once more. In these years Read Admiral Varkin was assigned on many raiding duties and engaged in many ship to ship battles with other small Republic fleets in various sectors. Now at the age of 43, Varkin was approaching his 25th year serving in the Empires Navy. As such, his crew threw him a celebration at his home on Bastion which many senior officers and political figures attended for their respected friend and fellow officer. But it was a short respite after years of constant warfare which would only be continued by one final major offensive by the Empire. Soon after, Rear Admiral Varkin was assigned to a major offensive armada which was going to invade Coruscant, the capital world of the Galactic Republic as well as the Jedi Order. Varkin was given command of a 1/4th of the armada and ordered to take out defenses on Coruscant so that drop ships full of droops could land. As such his fleet would be the one of the first to enter the system and engage ground targets by bombarding key locations across the planet so that the main Imperial armada could enter orbit. Once the Mandalorian deactivated the defense grid and Darth Malgus and some Sith warriors took down the Jedi, Rear Admiral Varkin and the rest of the armada entered orbit led by Darth Angral. Varkins fleet opened fire and bombarded the planets surface to eliminate military instillation's on the planet. After the planets fall and after the Sith Lords killed the Jedi and the Supreme Chancellor the planet was blockaded and put into martial law for days to keep the galaxy guessing.
After the battle and Coruscants fall, the negotiations on Alderaan were successful for the Sith and the Treaty of Coruscant was signed and officially ended the Great Galactic War. The Sith Empire gained many systems in the treaty and forced the Galactic Republic into a state of disarray and chaos. After the Sacking of Coruscant Rear Admiral Varkin returned to Bastion with his war riches and new found fame and respect within the Sith Empire and picked up his trade company after his mothers death decades before. During this time, Garel picked his company out of the ground and established its trade throughout the Sith Empire with them having outpost and warehouses on Bastion, Yaga Minor, Dantooine, Thila, Maken Te, Agamar and Vjun. After this Garel was rolling in wealth by the time of the Cold War in which he served a less direct presence as he had in the previous war. Throughout the next ten years Garel would solidify his place in the upper echelons of Imperial society as well as secretly fund proxy wars against the Republic. One such instance is when Garel supplied weapons and supplies to the separatist on Ord Mantell to succeed from the corrupt Republic aligned government. All this ensured he gained favor with the Sith and expanded his trade company on Ord Mantell as well as gain the loyalty of many Imperial soldiers and officers. For his loyalty to the Empire, Garel was picked for a prototype project meant to induce someone into a carbonate-freezing process for 50 years to test the technology. He was hesitant at first but the Sith Order promised him complete control over the Empire's armada and his ambition and loyalty took over as he accepted. But, due to a power failure 45 years after he was placed into the feezing process he was awaken in 3600 at the age of 54.
Getting back into the world and retaking control of his trade company after being ran by board executives for 45 years Garel quickly fell back into the swing of things and was happily accepted back into the fold by the Sith Empire. After a year of being back Garel was given commission as a Admiral in the Empire's Navy and given control of a fleet to command as his own to use his years of experience and battle hardened tactics to help advance the Empires goals against the Republic. A new age but an old foe is what Admiral Garel Varkin now lives by and happily accepts the current state of things as he plans to live the rest of his life content and...happy.

The Dreadnoughts and Destroyers also have supplements of Mark VI Supremacy-class starfighters and B28 Extinction-class bombers as well as Imperial shuttles and assault shuttles. While the Transports carried thousands of troops and vehicles used to control planets in the case of planetary invasions or defense.

It was an amazing sight to see such a thing as merchant ships came in and out of orbit only to be checked by the shipyard in orbit which also served as a defense station for Vjun. Admiral Varkin had only been in command of the 8th Fleet for a few months but had already earned the respect, admiration and loyalty of his men as the stories of him and his quick rise through the ranks remained a legend in the Navy. However, his political connections and wealth through his trade company also gave him the prestige he earned decades ago in the Empire. As he day dreamed a patrol squadron of starfighters flew over the dorsal part of the ship and continued on their flight path. The Admiral then turned on his heel and proceeded off the bridge as officers and marine guardsmen stopped to salute him as he passed on his way to his quarters. As he entered through the double sliding doors he was greeted by the smell of Bastion essence that was placed throughout his manor on Bastion, his homeworld. It always reminded him of home but he never forgot about it, besides his ship was a second home as well. Taking a seat at his desk with a wide view of the starboard side of the ship behind him he went to work filing reports and sending them to High Command to be viewed and filed in the database. It was tedious work but required to run a military sufficiently especially one as large as the Sith Empires. Now, he sat back and enjoyed his more non-productive work of the day before he was called away to deal with an incident from anywhere in the sector.

As such his fleet would be the one of the first to enter the system and engage ground targets by bombarding key locations across the planet so that the main Imperial armada could enter orbit. Once the Mandalorian deactivated the defense grid and Darth Malgus and some Sith warriors took down the Jedi, Rear Admiral Varkin and the rest of the armada entered orbit led by Darth Angral. Varkins fleet opened fire and bombarded the planets surface to eliminate military instillation's on the planet. After the planets fall and after the Sith Lords killed the Jedi and the Supreme Chancellor the planet was blockaded and put into martial law for days to keep the galaxy guessing.
After the battle and Coruscants fall, the negotiations on Alderaan were successful for the Sith and the Treaty of Coruscant was signed and officially ended the Great Galactic War. The Sith Empire gained many systems in the treaty and forced the Galactic Republic into a state of disarray and chaos. After the Sacking of Coruscant Rear Admiral Varkin returned to Bastion with his war riches and new found fame and respect within the Sith Empire and picked up his trade company after his mothers death decades before. During this time, Garel picked his company out of the ground and established its trade throughout the Sith Empire with them having outpost and warehouses on Bastion, Yaga Minor, Dantooine, Thila, Maken Te, Agamar and Vjun. After this Garel was rolling in wealth by the time of the Cold War in which he served a less direct presence as he had in the previous war. Throughout the next ten years Garel would solidify his place in the upper echelons of Imperial society as well as secretly fund proxy wars against the Republic. One such instance is when Garel supplied weapons and supplies to the separatist on Ord Mantell to succeed from the corrupt Republic aligned government. All this ensured he gained favor with the Sith and expanded his trade company on Ord Mantell as well as gain the loyalty of many Imperial soldiers and officers. For his loyalty to the Empire, Garel was picked for a prototype project meant to induce someone into a carbonate-freezing process for 50 years to test the technology. He was hesitant at first but the Sith Order promised him complete control over the Empire's armada and his ambition and loyalty took over as he accepted. But, due to a power failure 45 years after he was placed into the feezing process he was awaken in 3600 at the age of 54.
Getting back into the world and retaking control of his trade company after being ran by board executives for 45 years Garel quickly fell back into the swing of things and was happily accepted back into the fold by the Sith Empire. After a year of being back Garel was given commission as a Admiral in the Empire's Navy and given control of a fleet to command as his own to use his years of experience and battle hardened tactics to help advance the Empires goals against the Republic. A new age but an old foe is what Admiral Garel Varkin now lives by and happily accepts the current state of things as he plans to live the rest of his life content and...happy.
Roleplay Sample: Admiral Varkin stood on the bridge of his capital ship, which was a Harrower-class Dreadnought, and awaited the report from his fleet officers on the current state of the fleet. Admiral Varkin had been put in command of the 8th Fleet that was stationed in the Nuiri Sector, his ship was stationed in orbit of Vjun which was the sectors military complex. In total the 8th Fleet consisted of 200 ships which were made up of 20 Harrower-class Dreadnoughts, 100 Terminus-class Destroyers and 80 Gage-class Transports. The Dreadnoughts and Destroyers also have supplements of Mark VI Supremacy-class starfighters and B28 Extinction-class bombers as well as Imperial shuttles and assault shuttles. While the Transports carried thousands of troops and vehicles used to control planets in the case of planetary invasions or defense.

''Sub-Sector 8-1, Rear Admiral Adurst reports everything is running properly. Sub-Sector 8-2, Rear Admiral Burnen reports that pirate activities have increased in the sector but are under control. Sub-Sector 8-3, Rear Admiral Cailing reports that supply lines to Vjun have been interrupted by local smugglers and request to scan local planets for nearby bases. Sub-Sector 8-4, Rear Admiral Elinder reports all clear but could use another garrison of marines for one of the systems.'' -Executive Officer
''Very well, Sector 8-4 is to receive marine detachments from the over garrisoned system in Sector 8-3. Also, order Rear Admiral Burnen to send daily reports on these pirates.''

Turning back to his fore front view of his ships bridge, Admiral Varkin looked over at his personal fleet in orbit of Vjun. It was an amazing sight to see such a thing as merchant ships came in and out of orbit only to be checked by the shipyard in orbit which also served as a defense station for Vjun. Admiral Varkin had only been in command of the 8th Fleet for a few months but had already earned the respect, admiration and loyalty of his men as the stories of him and his quick rise through the ranks remained a legend in the Navy. However, his political connections and wealth through his trade company also gave him the prestige he earned decades ago in the Empire. As he day dreamed a patrol squadron of starfighters flew over the dorsal part of the ship and continued on their flight path. The Admiral then turned on his heel and proceeded off the bridge as officers and marine guardsmen stopped to salute him as he passed on his way to his quarters. As he entered through the double sliding doors he was greeted by the smell of Bastion essence that was placed throughout his manor on Bastion, his homeworld. It always reminded him of home but he never forgot about it, besides his ship was a second home as well. Taking a seat at his desk with a wide view of the starboard side of the ship behind him he went to work filing reports and sending them to High Command to be viewed and filed in the database. It was tedious work but required to run a military sufficiently especially one as large as the Sith Empires. Now, he sat back and enjoyed his more non-productive work of the day before he was called away to deal with an incident from anywhere in the sector.
