His hair is cut short and kept that way for simplicity’s sake, and though Bendik prefers a full face of hair kept in the same style, he had been known to shave and keep a small moustache when most needed, such as formal occasions. Hidden from most, however, are the scars that Bendik received during his imprisonment during the War with the Empire. The most unseemly scar runs most of the length of the man’s spine, with a few other small ones scattered across on either side. Though all the damage underneath would be repaired with the proper medical attention, the skin would refuse to follow suite. When it comes to clothing, Bendik follows in a ration of Jedi that had been preferring more plain clothing, as to their regular robes. For Bendik, the reasoning stems from his Investigator background, and the few missions he still undertakes in that particular spotlight. Often he sports a long olive jacket, with a low-cut white shirt and beige pants. There is usually a heavy blaster strapped to his hip in a large gun belt, and his lightsaber hangs on the other side. When at the Temple, or any other Jedi installation, Bendik likes to be in his own robes which consist of beiges, creams, and leathers. Personality Profile Bendik is a rigid man, in all matters concerning routine and protocol. From his viewpoint, things are done for a certain, important reason. Everything has a purpose and place. That a good order is the foundation of all things. Logic, facts, and the truth matter more than what the heart says. This does not make him very flexible, nor good at improvisation, though it does ensure a cool head under all sorts of fire and stress, and the young man can instinctually take up a position of leadership when needed most. With this rigidity comes a certain kind of stubbornness, an uptightness, if you will. The plan must be seen through to completion. Bendik demands excellence from his peers, those he oversees, but is most rough on himself out of all others. Since his Knighthood, Bendik has been working primarily on his own, though the young man has always had a bit of an independent streak that has run wide. He has found it hard to work inside group since the end of the War, and is more comfortable doing everything he can, himself. Though the Jedi Knight is a bit of a Jack-of-all-Trades when it comes to many skills, there are some things he struggles with, and he would rather keep struggling, than to have someone else perform the task for him. His independence is a reason he has yet to take a student, combined with the general doubt most Knights experience with not being a good teacher for their charge. During the War, Bendik would pick up the habit of smoking cigarettes from the soldiers under his command. He doesn’t do it a lot, nor often, but it is enough to make people turn their heads when they seen a Jedi Knight with a small bit of tobacco in their hands. The War would also make the Jedi Knight a private person, a person hidden under a layer of crass and general rudeness. He would develop a mindset that kept his opinion well known to those around him, whether they wished to hear it or not. Bendik has a simple, small sense of humor, one rarely called upon, and getting their commander to crack a smile was often the running bet of many soldiers. In fact, his first memories are off the expansive halls of the Temple on Coruscant, and that forever is known as his home. As the child that would grow into the Jedi Knight was born on Alderaan, and within Republic Space, his blood was tested for midi chlorians soon after his birth, and his parents made the decision to rush the young child off to the Order, before anyone could grow overly attached to one another. A Togruta Jedi named Okessaa Bey arrived on Alderaan not long after, and Bendik was taken from his family only a few days after his birth. Bendik grew up as normally as any child in the Temple. He preferred swordplay, gymnastics, and other physical exercises to those of the Force, and his academic studies. He had a few friends of various ages, but no one he grew adamantly close towards, at least not in these young years. Though he did have relationships with a few notables such as Gaeriel Krieg, Nola Raan, Kilia Tharen, and Winter Lockhaert. Though Bendik’s relationship with most was mostly friendly, his relationship with Winter was not. Winter was laid back and methodical, while Bendik was uptight and rigid. They often came to odds, and far less often, to blows. At the age of twelve, Bendik was chosen to become an apprentice under then-Knight Gnost Ziil, a Kel-Dor who was an Investigator for the Jedi Order. The life, goals, and mission of the Investigators struck a cord with Bendik, and he took to it well under Gnost's wing. The Kel-Dor was not a demanding teacher, not when it was uncalled for. He instead preferred to let Bendik come to his own conclusions, to his own decisions, and let the boy learn from experience. This had the unintended consequence of fostering a large independent streak in Bendik, which would only grow with age, and as Gnost’s teaching style was more hands-free than other Jedi, he would trust Bendik from earlier in their partnership with more important tasks. Bendik and Gnost would end up pairing with a pair of Peacekeepers later in their partnership, a Togruta Jedi Master named Sheresti Rin, and her apprentice, a human girl named Talee Ramaal. Like before with others his age, Bendik would end up grating against Talee, given his uptight and strict demeanor, and often the two older Jedi would have to keep their students from fighting too severely. This went even as far to almost ruin a mission that Gnost and Bendik were uncover for on Kuat, before the students were reprimanded in their own ways. This wouldn’t solve the issue between Talee and Bendik, however, when their fighting would take a mission off track in the Lower City of Coruscant, and they would be left with only themselves to rely on to salvage things. Though the mission would be a bust in the end of the day, not a lot of damage was done, and Bendik and Talee would eventually learn to work together after this. After the disaster in Lower Coruscant, it would not be long before the War with the Sith Empire. Gnost and Bendik would join the Blades from the onset, after discussing the decision together. They would run across Master Rin and Talee once again, who had made a similar decision, and the four Jedi would be paired together with a group of special forces during the War. Bendik and Gnost would infiltrate behind enemy lines as spies and saboteurs, while Sherasti and Talee would follow them with the special forces when needed. While this kept the four Jedi out of the major fighting, for the most part, they saw their fair share of covert actions and dangerous assignments. Bendik would serve alongside Gnost Ziil, Talee Ramaal, and Sheresti Rin on Dantooine, Yaga Minor, and Rhen Var, during the heaviest fighting on these worlds as the Republic lost time and and again to the Empire. During a particularly long, boring stretch of time on Tanaab, Bendik and Talee would strike up a mutual friendship and camaraderie, their past animosity behind them as the War pulled them together. Like most Jedi Bendik would fight on Taris, and like most, he would call it the worst the War had to offer. He lost most of the soldiers under his command on the planet, as well as friends within the Jedi Order. Gnost and Talee both went missing, and Sheresti was confirmed dead. After Taris, Bendik would be promoted to the rank of Knight within the Order. But for the young Knight, as the Empire pushed deeper into the heart of the Republic, things only grew worse. Bendik’s shuttle was shot down during some fighting over Balmorra, and the Jedi Knight would be captured by the Sith. A Jedi Knight as a prisoner was such a prize for the Empire, and the Sith would have Bendik hold on a prison ship that was constantly moving. His warden and interrogator, however, was none other than the freshly turned, once Jedi Knight Talee Ramaal. Bendik would suffer under her hand, until his older master Gnost led a daring commando raid to free the Jedi Knight, and Bendik would slay the one of the only people he once cared for upon his escape. The Jedi Knight would recover just in time to fight in the defense of Coruscant, and see an end to the War. But like most in the Jedi Order and the Military, he believed the peace that was signed would only be temporary. Since the end of the War, he has yet to choose both a student of his own, or even a specialization, as he bounces between both Investigator and Peacekeeper within the ranks of the Guardians of the Jedi Order. |
