OMG NERDGASM!!!!
yeah, I wonder where they got their idea from? Did anyone here ever mention being certified in C++ programing or being a bioware developer? lol
Judging by the shear size of their project and the fact that they have not announced a release date yet I would guess that it would be atleast 1-2 years out, maybe more.
But of course, I am like a weatherman: I have no clue what I am talking about.

I actually know a little about this, the whole 'story' up to the official announcement that they where indeed making it was funny.
BioWare had a 'facility' in Texas somewhere that they kept 'secretly' smuggling designers and programmers and such off to without telling anyone why. The Gaming News Group (GameStop, G4 etc..) caught on to all this when BioWare started to recruit some of the old designers of the self-killed MMO Star Wars: Galaxies. Apparently, there was a lot they did right in Galaxies that BioWare wanted it's hands on, and to do that, they needed the people who did it right the first time. So, they get some designers from the Galaxies team to come join them in Texas, and the GNG catch wind of it when big-name designers from BioWares Canada branch start flying down to Texas and won't say why.
After a few months of speculation and questioning asking, one of the big wigs in BioWare was asked something to the effect of 'Are you all making KOTOR 3 into an MMO?" (something like that..) to which he responded "Maybe." and people flipped out.
Fun story to me..
Anyway, the game is going to take a minimum of 1 more year, I hope it takes 2 more, that promises for a better al around game, too many people try to rush it into the market ASAP and end up patching ten times a week. My main concern? PVP, how well will they work it in? o.O
So yea, Ryn was pretty accurate this time. Weathermen have to be right sometimes!

They better not make Jedi a starting profession. That would just ruin it for everybody, especially PvP. There's no way you can possibly balance Force Users with your avg. joe, even with his best gear and a +678 luck enchanted necklace.
*start announcer guy voice* Imagine a world where Jedi and Sith run rampant and the average person doesn't have a chance at helping or hurt this epic struggle. The economy is crumbling from the beginning due to nobody making a crafting based character, and the help that is needed come too little, too late. *end announcer guy voice*
Or they could make the economy combat oriented, with very little player crafting involved. But than this whole thing would just be a WoW wannabe. It's one of the reasons why I liked SWG so much, everything came from the players. You weren't forced into just killing things all the way to fame and fortune. /end rant
Only time will tell. But I'm not holding my breath.

It's bad. I saw the screenies. The lightsabers looks like toy lightsabers. They are thick and ugly. The jedi and sith wears spandex suits :S And I believe both jedi and sith will be starting claseses. In this time period, how would one otherwise hope to become jedi? I suppose the people playing troopers and so on will be the elite of their kind. Jedi will probably be the melee class with some force powers to aid them. Maybe there will be different kinds of jedi classes. Jedi healer for healing, jedi counsular for buffing and spell dammage, guardians for "tanking" *sighs* and sentinels for... I dunno... Dynamic?
Also, the graphic reminds me of that stupid blizzards game with warcraft.

Umm, Jeh'rad keep in mind that they just announced the game, I seriously doubt that they have the models for all of the weapons squeaky clean with great new polish. I seriously hope that they do not make Jedi a starting class, and yes you could still make a Jedi character, and here is how.
Do what SWG did back before all of the "upgrades", but with a twist.
You have to have your account active for say, a year, and you have to go through a seriously quest-line/story arch, and at the end, if you succeed (if you die on one of the quests you fail, and have to wait another RL year.) you are allowed to make a Jedi character.

no that would never work... everyone would complain then it would end up like SWG did..in a ditch covered in petrol, on fire.
In the old republic jedi were on every street corner practically.. make jedi a starting class but make then perma overt so any one can attack them at any point or something like that.

Ryn, who, seriously... That idea is like... I mean, anyone who would willingly sacrifice all that time should just be locked up helped weather he/she wan'ts to or not. It would require so much dedication that it would be overly addicting and almost suicidal. It would destroy peoples lives!

well WOW is trying out the prestige class Idea, and it seems to be working pretty well so far. Another answer to the jedi problem is to making them starting but putting balance first and not letting them be over powered. It would probably be done by restricting their powers. For instance Jedi might be great DPS(damage-per-second). Due to their lack of armor they would lose Hit points fast, and their healing abilities might end more akin to the paladin WOW. Better as a back up not the main party healer. I aslo think that they will probably ditch the overt and covert concept.
I liked the concept of the player driven economy I hope they keep that, but not player built cities. I so ruined it when I walked out of Mos Eisley in a larger effin' city. totally killed the adventure.
Oh and they are developing it in Austin Texas. I saw some job announcements a year ago when they were just trying to get the place going.

Personally, I think most of our concerns will be addressed the best way possible. Most of these matters were also posted on the forums on the SW:TOR site, so I'm confident the game will turn out to be the best mmo on the market in a couple of years, hopefully.
The "story driven" concept is what really gets me...

Wow...Lucas arts just don't get it do they. If I want to play a space MMO, I'm going to play EVE. If i want to play a running around mmo, I'm going to play WOW, and here's why: ITS NOT GOING TO DISAPEAR IN A YEAR AND A HALF AGAIN. Galaxies did it, as will this. What should they have done? Heres an idea, take the engine they used for Force Unleashed, smash it together with Oblivion ( best DX9 outdoor engine. DX9 will allow it to look good and run on an Xbox360) Now, toss in a good number of the planets we know and love, a Dark/Light side storyline, and maybe even vehicles, and voila, instant game of the year material. MMO's are money grabs. Thats it, if a dev makes an mmo, its simply to line their pocketbook. If you want to help the gaming community, DO NOT PLAY mmo's. They are what is ruining REAL gaming for the rest of us.
