Appearance Face Claim • Will Tudor Height & Weight • 6'1" 165 lbs Overall Looks • Io'an is moderately tall. Though work and adolescence have lent his frame a reasonable amount of muscle and tone, he tends toward leanness and definition, rather than bulk. Io'an's gaze can often be distant, as he tends to occupy himself with his thoughts more than the world around him. Still, his sea-green eyes - the irises of which are encircled by a subtle ring of violet, after his infection by the Archeri Plague - can be piercing at times, and speak of a quiet, contained intelligence. His hair is sandy blond, straight and generally cut to a medium length that does not fully hide the tips of his pointed ears. His skin is smooth and has a subtle pinkish tint, as is normal for his race. Though rarely seen, he has a short scar on his left side, across his rib cage. Io'an has a tendency to shuffle when he's off in his thoughts. It's not uncommon for him to slouch, and generally avoids eye contact when something strikes his nerves. But he'll try to hide it at times, with a wavering smile that betrays his confidence, rather than reinforce it. He prefers to dress practically when he can. His regular attire includes a dark grey coat with the collar worn up and internal pockets aplenty. Beneath that, he favors an unremarkable dark shirt that he'll often wear with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows, if going without his coat. He also tends toward pants that are sturdy, but, like the rest of his attire, don't draw the eye, and simple black boots. He can and will change his attire to suit the situation, however, from more combat-appropriate gear to formal attire. Io'an has a black tattoo on the lower left side of his neck. It's a simple shape, with a thick black bar bisected with a longer, slender one. Four elongated teardrops cross the end of each bar. Personality Profile Io'an is a shy soul. He prefers to avoid the spotlight whenever possible, and is not at all unhappy to stay at the side of a room, away from the crush of social interaction. Yet, for better or for worse, he often funds himself thrust into exactly those types of situations. He's tried to become more outgoing, but it's a learning process. He very rarely asserts himself. He tends to go with the flow, and follow the lead of those with more dominant personalities, perhaps because he regularly lacks any sort of real confidence in himself or his decisions. He can be slow to trust, but those who earn his loyalty earn it wholly, and he can be an invaluable team member. Io'an generally tries to avoid conflict — any conflict, emotional, personal, or combat — whenever possible in favor of more diplomatic measures. Even so, there are circumstances, when something is important enough to him, that he'll stick to his guns. He can be doggedly stubborn when he absolutely sets his mind to something. Similarly, though he will normally attempt to exhaust any other option before fighting, he will fight when he's forced to, and can be vicious when his back is against the wall. If there's one place Io'an can and does shed his bashful demenaor, it's the holonet. There, he's Draco, a slicer of considerable skill and repute. And Draco is every bit as bold and confident and self-assured as Io'an only hopes to one day be when not behind a computer screen. Io'an can have a hard time overcoming his fear when something scares him. It's not unheard of for him to lock up in terror or completely lose his composure. Io'an's biggest fear is something that he cannot escape — the Force. He has been wary of it ever since he learned he could touch it, but as he's grown in ability — and in his understanding of how little he truly knows about it — his fear of it has deepened. To him, the Force is a great, boundless thing, as infinite in its ability to harm as its capacity to do good. It's impossible to understand, yet a crucial component of his life — it's terrifying. Background Father • Ai'las, 94, retired Republic naval officer Mother • Solana, 93, doctor Siblings • Vrael, 27, junior communications officer, Republic Navy Other Important Connections • Faizen Yiu, 84, mentor, deceased Vance Asano, 26, friend and not-so-secret crush Qiki Muir, 28, Slicer best friend Lidah Faine, 37, current employer and subject of awe Overall History • Io’an was born to Solana and Ai’las Aetoris on Thustra. He was the second child, after his three-year-older brother, Vrael. The Aetoris family lived a normal life in the world’s capital. Ai’las was a retired Republic military officer, while Solana was a doctor. Io’an, for the most part, was a normal child. He was reserved, unlike his more boistrous older brother, but generally well liked by his peers and other adults. But even as a child, he always had uncannily quick reflexes, and seemed more inclined than others to empathize strongly with the emotions of others. He showed an interest in tinkering and working with computers and droids from an early age. That wasn’t uncommon for the Sephi, though, and his parents encouraged Io’an and Vrael — who had a similar interest, to a lesser degree — to learn what they could about computer systems and droids, even as children. When Io’an was seven, a Jedi passed through town. A chance meeting revealed that Io’an was Force sensitive, but too old for the Jedi to take to Coruscant for formal training. This was a disappointment to Io’an, who fell into a rut for a few weeks after the Jedi left. Everyone knew the stories of the Jedi and their heroism, and he’d missed his chance to be one, by blind luck. He eventually grew out of it, and, a couple of years later, decided he’d start trying to learn on his own. Io’an was growing into a shy youth, and prefered to spend time on his own with his droids or computers, or a small, select group of friends, than out and about like his brother. The holent offered a wealth of information at his fingertips. But not all of it was accurate, as Io’an learned as he began his self-tutelage in private. Progress was, in a word, slow. It was often frustrating, with little or no visible results. But for years Io’an kept at it, until another chance encounter opened a door to greater learning. He was thirteen, and had learned some very basic applications of the Force. Sometimes, especially when his emotions were particularly intense for some reason, the temperature around him might change or a rock might crumble to dust on the ground. He had little explanation for it other than that the Force was doing something, and his family and friends could offer little better. When he was returning home from school one day, some bullies who occasionally taunted both for always having his nose in a computer and the strange happenings that seemed to follow him, decided to have a go at him. Io’an tried to shoo them away, but they wouldn’t leave and the largest of the group set upon him with his fists. Io’an knew how to fight a bit, but preferred not to, and as he tried to defend himself, he reached, unwittingly toward the Force. Before he knew what happened, a wave of frost swept up the attacker’s leg from the suddenly frosted ground. Everyone freaked out, but no one more than Io’an, who didn’t understand what he’d done. Some moments later, a grey-haired Epicanthix man came running, demanding to know which of the children had made the ice. Once he learned it was Io’an, he stormed off with the young Sephi and took him home to his parents. The man introduced himself as Faizen, a former Jedi, and explained to Io’an’s parents what happened. Through the conversation, Io’an revealed his secret self-training, and Faizen explained that Io’an needed a mentor, lest he hurt himself or someone else, as he nearly already had. Fazien offered to train him, but told Ai’las and Solana that Io’an could not stay home to train. It would do the boy good to see more of the Galaxy than their quiet city, and it would help to get away from a place where suspicions already abounded about Io’an’s strange powers. After two weeks of consideration, Io’an’s family agreed, with conditions that Faizen would not let Io’an’s education lapse and that they would regularly visit home. And so with that, Io’an and his new mentor set off to the stars. Io’an learned quickly, because he’d already stumbled his way through some of the basics of the Force. But his own fear, heightened by the memory of what he’d done on Thustra, often slowed his progress. Nor did Faizen’s constant warnings about the Dark Side and the dangers of fear and other powerful emotions help the young Sephi want to grasp the Force. Still, he pressed on, learning to tap the Force more comfortably, and learning to fight in the process. Faizan explained the ability he showed an innate talent for was Alter Environment — a rare, but powerful ability, and ushered Io’an to a deeper understanding of how the power worked. This was all a bit much for Io’an to take in, even over the course of a few years, and oten turned toward slicing when he didn’t know what else to do. Faizen fussed at him for it sometimes, but Io’an abilities were useful, for finding work and information and gaining access to places the two might not otherwise be able to reach,so he didn’t stop them. By the time Io’an was 18, he’d built a lightsaber of his own — that was a process he actually enjoyed, especially since he could quiet using the training lightsaber Faizen provided — and was becoming decently proficient in the fifth form of lightsaber combat. Everything went sour when the two made a stop on Ruusan, three weeks before Io’an’s twentieth birthday. A former, fallen student of Faizen’s ambushed their camp and killed the Epicanthix after taking him by surprise. Io’an was only spared because he was off gathering supplies. When he returned, he was attacked and forced to defend himself. Io’an mounted a desperate defense, but he wasn't strong enough to keep the Dark Jedi at bay. As the Dark Jedi’s crimson saber burned across Io’an’s ribs, nearly killing him, the Sephi lost control of himself. Next he knew pillars of rock had erupted from the ground on either side of his attacker and crushed him between them. Io’an, rather than being relieved that he survived, was horrified that he’d killed someone. He retched on the spot, then fled the world in Faizen’s ship. He wandered aimlessly for about a year after that, until he found his way to Nar Shaddaa. There, as on other urbanized worlds, he felt safe from the natural life energy he’d used to crush the Dark Jedi on Ruusan. His skills found him plenty of work, and it wasn’t long before he joined up with the notorious slicer “Memento” to become part of her team... |
