Ladies and gentlemen of this here forum I come with news to share.
We have acquired ourselves a new admin to fill in the third position.
Okay, so perhaps this admin may not be ‘new’ but she’s still shiny. Meira has put her red shirt back on and rejoined the admins. However, she has made it clear to us that this will most likely not be permanent as she is hoping/expecting things to pick up soon, though she doe not know when.
But after talking this through myself and Jace are perfectly fine with this fact and so we intend to work Meira to the bone before she returns to the rank of purple again. Mostly likely her presence will serve as a kick up the backside to the two current admins and thus making the forum more efficient, we hope anyway as there are still some things in progress that need to be introduced to the site. Welcome her back to the reds.
For the meantime however we have some changes taking place in the tech section and also we are discussing how we might speed up the custom sections a little bit. Not to mention the extension to the still-in-development news group that will impact the entire roleplay in vary degrees.
Yes, I enjoy teasers.
Thank you,
~Jenno

Dear members of SWU,
It's time you were updated on the current status of the SWU Awards here at the forum. As you may have noticed, the Summer awards never made it past the nominations stage. And for the time being, they will stay that way. This happened partly because of myself, being busy and not really in the mood for continuing it on. And also partly, mostly, because of the lack of participation received, perhaps because of a failing on my part to advertise them or make them accessible. Or because of a whole lot of factors. But that's the boring, uninteresting prologue. (Or soliloquy?)
Anyway, on to the main event, the interesting bits, as it were. The Awards will be continuing, afresh, but in a whole new way. Hopefully these changes will help keep the Awards active and interesting for years to come. These changes were somewhat influenced by the way the Academy Awards are run (and how I've seen a similar member awards done on another forum).
The new differences: * The Awards will be held only once a year, beginning in around Jan./Feb. with the voting being on everything the previous year (Jan.-Dec.). -- Doing the Awards once a year instead of twice, will hopefully clear up any confusion as to who is eligible for certain categories, as anything in that 12-month span will be up for nominating. -- Also, it will hopefully place more importance on the Awards, as they will come less often. -- As for a timeline, I'm hoping the nominations are completed by the end of the year (or at least by mid-January). The voting stage would then start, and last for about a month.
* The nominations will be completed by a select committee made up of one admin, two mods, three NGT, and three members for a total of nine nominations team members. -- Having a group/team of people from all 'walks of life' on the forum doing the nominating is not meant to take the power away from the general public, but as a means to more effectively carry things out a lot more efficiently and quickly. -- Also, by ensuring a variety of staff and member positions on the team, there should be a fair and balanced set of nominations.
* The categories themselves will be overhauled, with some of them being deleted and new ones being added. -- This will hopefully scale down the categories a bit and make the process of nominating and voting much easier, by keeping those categories that are important, and removing those that are a bit redundant.
In short, I am hoping this will completely turn around the way the Awards have currently been taken and viewed and participated in in the last couple of years here that I've been in charge of them, and seen a lack of activity in. And I hope that all of you will be supportive of these changes.
Again, as always, any questions can be directed via PM to myself. I know I can be confusing at times, haha.
- - -
Now to the second matter at hand, which is the founding of the team that will do the nominations. Again, I need 1 admin, 2 mods, 3 NGT and 3 members, giving us 9 total.
The only real requirements for these members would be that they are fairly active on the forum, have been a member at least since Jan. 1st, 2010, and have a decent knowledge of members/characters/threads/plots/etc. on the forum.
They will have to be willing to take some time to talk with the other team members to discuss nominations. (I can lead the team, if needed, but I will not nominate). The time requirement will not be all that much, perhaps just a couple hours a week, if the nominations can be decided on quickly (either jointly as a group or separately like how it was run with all the members). To aid with this, I would be willing to set up a password-protected board on the forum just for this purpose, so that all nine would not have to be online and in the chat or IM at the same time.
Anyway if you are interested in being on this team, please PM me ASAP, as the slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. I am hoping to fill these positions by the end of the month. And if there are still slots open, I will be PMing people personally until I get all 9.
If you have any questions, and are interested, please PM me promptly, so that we can sort anything and you can get a slot before they fill up.
(In extreme circumstances, due to the lateness of this request, the number of committee members may be reduced).
- - -
I do hope you all will give this new Awards system a chance. These were put in place originally to give awareness to those on the forum who deserve it. Everyone here works hard on their characters and all are great members. They deserve to be recognized, and I hope the Awards are treated with the degree of seriousness and sincerity that they deserve, and also with a bit of fun and light-heartedness.
As summary... -- New Awards system; any questions, PM me -- Nominations team; if you want in, PM me -- Forum members as a whole; stay tuned for more information regarding the voting stage.
Thanks!
- Mara

Hello there dear members, This is just a brief announcement about placements within Moderators, NGTs and RPMs. First of all, a list of those we have removed from the groups due to the leaving (either with a reason or due to inactivity). Moderators:DutchNext Gen Team:Falcon River Critter Starwarsgirl008 ValadinRoleplay Mentors:Casual NeologyAs you can see that’s quite a few removed from the list. And because of that, we will need replacements for all three sections. Now, if you would like to be considered for the Roleplay Mentors then all you need to do is simply PM me stating your interest. From there you will more than likely be contacted by Silas who will go about providing a brief test of your mentoring abilities. He and I will then discuss who we think should get the position. For the Next Gen Team this will come down to those who review applications, show an ability to do so decently, or at least show an aptitude for developing their ability to improve their reviews as they learn more about what the staff picks up on. For a further in depth guide on what we like to see in potential new recruits, take a look at this thread here (link). We are really quite determined to add more members to this user group as active reviewers means we can welcome new members and characters to the forum much quicker. I do not want PMs about people who are interested as members will be chosen based off their performance in the application boards. And finally, a Moderator. It is likely that we won’t fill this position for a little while yet, but any of those who go for the NGT group may earn a place as one of the greens if they consistently show their ability to review applications. This is somewhat an extension of what has been said above and once again, the staff will decide on who to promote based upon effort and performance upon the board, we do not want PMs stating interest. I hope that many of you will take this opportunity to help contribute towards SWU’s efficiency. And on a separate note, hopefully in the next few weeks the staff will have a new system to implement in order to make things more fun and interesting in the roleplay boards. Thank you, ~Jenno

I'd just like to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all our SWU members! Even those of you who aren't from the good ol' USA...(Jenno <3) You can pretend you are for today at least. I'm thankful for the great RPs, and the even greater friendships we've all found here. Now quit tooling around on the computer and go spend some time with your families, eat copious amounts of food (pumpkin pie in particular), and watch some football!!!

Well, in what I hope is the first of a couple of announcements of this nature, I would like you all to congratulate Hotel and Jazen to the ranks of Roleplay Mentors.
They've both been on the forum for a little while now and have spoken to Silas, the head of the RPMs, about this promotion. I hope that they can add a nice flow to that aspect of the forum.
So, congratulations guys, this means that the positions of Roleplay Mentors are filled, however we still need to get our hands on a few NGTs and eventually another Moderator, so get to the applications.
Thank you,
~Jenno

Alright people, just a quick update but an important one.
There has been two changes to the rules, or rather, two things which have been made officially into rules.
The first has to do with signature size. Lately there have been members who feel the need to put every image they own in their signature. This is stretching pages and making loading times worse, basically its bad forum etiquette. As such, we have instated a maximum signature size of 550x550. So I suggest that if your signature is bigger than that, you better change it because the mods will be removing them if they are over regulation.
The second change is more of putting on unspoken rule into words. There have been cases of people editing their accepted profiles without mod approval. Now the staff really doesn't have a problem with members updating appearance or personality, indeed we are proud of the fact that SWU puts trusts in its members to do rather than locking apps. People have abused this trust though by editing their stats without getting permission first. Well as of now, it is officially against the rules so if you try to be sneaky...you will be caught...and I will burn every app you have created and scatter their ashes into the wind :3
That is all, Jace

Hello folks! I have yet some more updates for you. Don't worry; these are good updates. (At least the staff believes so, haha). Anyway, this announcement is mainly concerned with changes to how the various 'of the Month' awards are being run. It had come to mine, and the rest of the staff's, attention that the current format was lacking in a few ways. And hopefully these changes will make the process a lot easier for everyone and keep things running smoothly. Currently, the voting process goes like this: -- Thread for voting for Month 1 goes up in Month 2, creating confusion for members. Some members can't remember back to Month 1, and so they don't bother voting. Others maybe aren't sure who to vote for. And on and on. And I agree. It is confusing at times. So here's what's gonna happen in the new year: Starting in January, the month members will be voting for will be posted in a thread in that same month. So Month 1 voting will be up during Month 1, not Month 2. It is our feeling that this will smooth over a lot of confusion, plus also get much-needed activity back into these awards if members don't have to think back a few weeks to who deserves a vote. HOWEVER... there will be a slight catch to this, which is that December 2010 will be skipped over. I'm sorry, but this is to avoid having two sets of voting being done in January. So in summary... the 'OTM threads will now begin at the beginning of the month you are voting for, going for the same amount of time, with the winners announced at the beginning of the next month. It'll be like it goes now, but without thinking back to the past month. As always, if there are any questions, please PM me. I'll be happy to (try to) explain anything to you. - Mara PS: I just wanted to throw out an update on the SWU Awards 2011. We are close to getting the categories sorted out for the nominations, and soon the nominations will be gathered. I hope to have everything ready for voting at the beg. of February. Stay tuned for further updates.

Hello everyone, first of all I hope you all had a nice holiday and New Year, just thought I'd kick things off with a few pieces of information. If you haven't already seen it, the first SWUcast has been produced after your votes were made and we hope to be keeping up with a monthly release. You can find it in a few different accessible formats here: swrponline2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=announcements&action=display&thread=12128&page=1And don't forget, once you've had a listen, there's a place to discuss the podcasts, what you liked, what you'd want to see in the next upload etc etc. The discussion thread is located here: swrponline2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=feedusbackyothots&action=display&thread=12150&page=1In other news, SWU has taken another step outside the regular restrictions of the roleplay forum. We now have our very own twitter, which will be updated regularly with news, reminders and perhaps insightful pieces of information which may have otherwise eluded you. Our twitter page is located here: twitter.com/swrponline2There are a few larger things to come hopefully within the next month or so that the staff have been working on so look out for future announcements. Thank you, ~Jenno

Time for another announcement.
First of all, the previously named 'Guide to Unallowed Aspects' is now entitled 'Guide to Forbidden Aspects'. Just a simple word altering.
Next is the update of an already existing aspect of the forum. Since the revamp back in 2008 we had a list of banned force powers that also mentioned specialized force powers. Well, this list has been added to now, due to the increasing number of members and force powers which are debatably unique or overpowered/unfair/lacking in sufficient information.
There have been no reposts, simply modification to the pre-existing lists.
If you recently made a character with one a power now listed as banned, you may be approached to remove it, or likely substitute it for another power.
And finally, at 10am EST (-5 GMT) Sunday 23rd of this month, SWU will be put into maintenance mod for about 10-20 minutes whilst some work is done upon the forum's code. Please make sure you finish any posts you're working on before then as you will not be able to post/edit anything when the site is put into maintenance mode.
We have attempted to choose a fairly vacant time in which to do this and hope to be up and running as normal before 30 minutes. We hope you'll like the changes that are to come on Sunday, and also look forward to more announcements in the next few weeks.
Thank you,
~Jenno

So, after our scheduled ‘maintenance’ I’m sure you’ve all spotted a number of differences on the site.
First of all allow me to thank Silas for his excellent work on the new skin that we now have. I never approached him about working on a new design for SWU, instead he came to me with what was then a work in progress and although there were some things to be worked out with it, it inspired me to look to it as a serious project. I worked with Silas for many hours after he initially showed me the design and after showing it to the admins and a couple of moderators, we took some of the advice given and started improving. Overall I believe he first showed the design to me about two weeks ago, if that, and since then we’ve been working on getting it ready for this, as it has now been made SWU’s official skin.
I know many preferred the old style of white text on dark background, but the skin ‘Prime’ had been in use for a very long time (as it was originally used on SWU Prime, hence the name) and whilst it was rather good, I felt as though it was starting to become a little bit dated. The code the old skin used often made it difficult to integrate new pieces onto the site and for a while now I’ve wanted to include a side panel in order to provide some basic information and important links in an obvious and very simple way. On top of that we have also included some of SWU’s networking aspects, such as a link to the WhatPulse and Twitter (with an active twitter feed as well). However, due to the old code’s contrast in colour and the clash in coding with this board, it seemed as though I had to delete the older skin from this board, although it does continue to live on at SWU Prime.
Some other things we’ve updated are our main banner and our affiliate banner, giving what I feel is a slightly fresher feel to the board. Also, there is a new code included that rescales images so that they do not stretch the page or break the sig rule. Any images bigger than the allotted size of 550 x 550 pixels will be reduced on the forum, but if you click on the scaled down image it will open new tab/page with a full sized version available to you.
Now, there are still a few pieces on the board that are to be changed or added (for example a YouTube button) that I will continue working on after this post, now that the main bulk is out of the way. Also, over the next few weeks there will likely be small changes to some of the different colours, such as for the staff names or faction controlling planets, also the colour composition for the cbox as we try and find what works best (refining things such as this always require they be put to the test so that we can see how they go on an active board). Also, if we think of more things to use the sidebar for then we have ability to work upon that, any recommendations or preferences for anything you’d like to see included in the sidebar are more than welcome and you’re free to PM me with them.
Finally, it seems that there are some issues with parts of code that remain from the old skin and it prevents you from being able to see particular boards and sub-boards. Whilst I will try and remove all instances of this (have to go to the code for each board/sub-board affected and remove it that way) there will probably be some cases that elude me. If you happen to find an example of this then please PM me so I can restore its functionality as soon as possible.
I hope you all enjoy the new look and thank Silas for his great contribution to the site.
Also, expect to see another announcement next weekend.
Thank you,
~Jenno

Another announcement this month? You can bet your Star Wars bedspread. I did say there’d be more to come. First of all, a promotion. We’ve been after NGTs for a while now and I’m glad to announce that we have another member to add to their ranks. Casual will be taking on a position as a Next Gen Team member, I hope you all congratulate him, he’s been delivering some quality character reviews and we look forward to seeing him throw out more in the future. However, let it be known that we are still looking for more members to join the NGTs. There were some good points made about what we look for when it comes to NGTs in the first SWUcast. We’re always keeping our eyes out for candidates as people review characters and develop their abilities when it comes to character application reviews. Next is the introduction of a new section to the boards. I say new but truthfully it’s more like a revamp. The IC news section we previously had was not used very much, apart from the odd occasion on which I would do a write up of events that had taken place in the roleplay. However, with the news section, we are looking to expand on what was previously done to hopefully add a new and interesting level of immersion to the roleplay here at SWU. No longer is there a single news station, those who have joined me in this project have set up three separate news stations as we intend to factor in the political and military propaganda of the two major factions in the main events, as well as providing an ‘independent’ view on this. Not only are we aiming to cover more topics with this new section, but we’re also looking to put multiple spins upon the events that happen, some of which will be affected by the roleplays your characters take part in, especially as we become more accustomed to the operating of the news section. In terms of immersion, something you may hear me talk about again in the future, there will be reports on events/threads that have taken place, as I have mentioned, but we are also looking to have some of the news things serve as something of a build up on some occasions. For instance, there might be something brought up/mentioned or repeated in the news section that will eventually lead to some sort of mission or event that your characters will take part in, which there would then be a follow-up report on. So in essence it shows more of the cause and effect aspect of the general day to day events of the universe your characters live in. There are potentially a great number of things we can do with this so make sure to keep your eyes on the news section in the future. If you’re interested in becoming part of the team that works on writing these articles, as well as throwing out ideas and suggestions for the project as a whole and potential articles to be developed then make sure to check out this thread, which details how you can become part of the News Team. swrponline2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=galaticnews&action=display&thread=11919Look out for another announcement in the next few days. Thank you, and remember, stay classy SWU. ~Jenno

Alrighty, thought I’d try and get another announcement in before February comes along. To begin with, for those of you who haven’t seen yet, we are currently ProBoards’ weekly featured forum as can be seen on their twitter and their main website (link: here). Hopefully this will really help with the advertising, at least for a week or so. Secondly, we have yet another promotion to announce. We’ve tried a couple of times in the past to prepare and bring in a second Fringe mod to help out with what is one of the biggest sections for characters. Well, I hope that this time we’ve truly found ourselves a keeper. He’s not even been around for a year but Silas has already done a great many things for SWU and has dedicated many hours to helping this become a better place for everyone. So everyone please give him a warm welcome to the ranks of moderator and also take note that he will still hold the position of head RPM. Congratulations and welcome. Finally, those of you who have been with us for a little while know that IC, 3602 BBY has been an action packed year. However, I think it’s about time the action slipped into 3601 BBY. Now, we likely would have done this sooner had there been a system in place for how to progress things, but brainstorming on what we should do in order to make the transition smooth and successful whilst balancing other workloads has taken a bit of time. One of the things we need to do is increase the age of the characters across the board. Now, I’m aware characters don’t have their birthdays at the same time, but as we operate with a system of liquid time, it won’t be too difficult to write around that. There is to be a thread posted up with a list of all the characters that will have their age increased a year, this is based upon those that were approved before the 1st of August 2010, as I understand people who recently made characters likely won’t want to increase their age already and the admins feel as though 6 months is enough time for a character to have been involved in enough events to have earned significant grounding in the rp. But of course, nothing is ever so simple and so this list will be posted up so that you can contest a character’s age increase if you wish to. Also, if you have already increased a character’s age, you will need to let me know in that thread. We are aiming to update things on the 12th of February and so it would be best to try and contest an age increase as soon as possible, further details, along with the list itself, are listed in the thread here: swrponline2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=announcements&action=display&thread=12565&page=1#1296495001Finally, let it be known that this is not an opportunity for piles of stat increases. This is not a time jump; we are simply moving things such as the date to where the RP currently is. Any stat increases are still judged as they always have been, through the moderator of that section. Please do not increase your character’s age yourself, it will be done by the staff. Hopefully we can get things done as smooth as possible. Thank you, ~Jenno

Hello folks! Just a short announcement from me. Finally, after much behind-the-scenes work, the nominations are ready for voting in the 2010 SWU Awards. If you remember, earlier it was decided to combine the summer and winter awards into one big year-long awards event. Sort of thing. Anyway, the nominations are now posted! Please read through the rules carefully before voting. And use the code provided to send a PM to me (mara) before the deadline of March 21st. Please take the time to vote in the coming weeks and recognize your fellow members and their hard work. And stay tuned for the results next month; there will be a party! Again, congrats to everyone nominated! Here is a link: . - Mara

Just a small announcement for now.
As many of you know, a lot of our members use Skype, however providing one's username was a manual process. With the introduction of a small bit of code, you can now include your skype username in your profile information and it will appear to others under your karma.
The use of this code isn't set in stone. Any issues with it or if you would like to comment on whether or not you like or dislike it being there, post something up in the feedback section.
Other than that, just a notice that I'm hoping to get the move to 3601 BBY done really soon and hopefully the second SWUcast will be up soon.
Thank you,
~Jenno

The year is now 3601 BBY.
It took us a little while, and a few more weeks at the end that had been hoped for (though that was due to me being busy in the real world), but we got there eventually. Characters that were on the age progression list have now had their ages increased. Any old profiles that are re-activated, the mods will be able to ask you to increase the age by a year if it is necessary (ie, they were involved in the rp a while back and are therefore rooted within site canon).
Other than the age increase, the galaxy map has also been updated, along with the beginning of the next chapter in the story thread. That puts us in 3601 BBY now and provides us with a system to hopefully work on to make future updates much easier and quicker.
There's another project on the horizon, which will hopefully be done within the next month, though once again it's going to be hard with the fact that some of the staff are quite busy.
So please, be patient with us.
Thank you,
~Jenno

Hey guys!
This is a slightly belated (and short) announcement here, regarding the SWU Awards.
The voting stage is now complete, and the awards revealing has begun. Stop by the party thread to check out the winners, congratulate them, show your appreciation, and just have fun.
Everyone's worked hard, and now it's time to kick back for a while.
Hope to see you in there!
- Mara

Attention members of SWU, I'd like to take a moment to recognize the hard work of one of our members! Latus has been with us for a very long time (longer than I have actually) and has always been an active and helpful member. Lately, you might have seen him helping out with reviews in the tech section. It is for this dedication and helpfulness that he has been raised to the Next Generation Team where he will be helping with reviews of all sorts in a more official capacity. Please join me in congratulating him! If you are interested in becoming an NGT member, we have a couple of threads that can get you on the right track. ClickClickIf you have any questions, please feel free to ask any member of the staff. Congrats once again, Latus!! Love and Memories, Meira

Just a quick announcement for fringe section:
I've updated the section notes a bit, nothing horribly big...mostly color coding change for ease of reading. If anyone has trouble seeing/reading any of it now, please pm myself or silas about it and one of us will change to a better color. (I know red/maroon may be difficult for some people to see)
Also, I'd like to congratulate Sporky for making it onto the list of Exemplary Character Apps in the section notes with his newest character, Wallace. Good job, Sporky, I've seen a lot of improvement in your bio writing skills and this one really impressed me.

"Time does not bring relief;you all have lied" -Edna St.Vincent Millay Random quote cause I'm sitting in my 4 hour poetry class as I write this to you all. Myself, among the other members of staff have recently seen a great increase in questions and complaints with regards to the application process. Since the questions/complaints all seem to be rather similar, I am going to address these issues in this post, so please do pay attention. Firstly, I want to start off by stating a simple fact-The application process on SWU is not short especially compared to other RP sites you might have been on. No one denies this, not even the staff. Is this necessarily a bad thing? I don't think so. The following is an explanation along with an FAQ "Why is the application process so rigorous?"Our application process is meticulous, and detailed. We don't mention any minimum paragraph length for character bios, because if you aim to write the minimum, then you probably aren't the type of writer we are looking for here at SWU. If you write your app in 30 minutes, chances are it's going to need a good deal of work. If you put effort in your app, then we will put effort in going over it. That brings up another point, moderator review. I've constantly heard people say "Oh I've run a site before, reviewing apps takes like 5 minutes"...that may be true for other RP sites but NOT for Star Wars Universe RP. Why, you ask? Because believe it or not, we care about your writing. Our moderators try their best to not only get you RPing, but to constantly improve it. Thus we try to make RPing not only fun but educational in it's own way. Improved writing not only affects your RP, but also any writing you do throughout your life. We want you to take away something from your time here. Before I joined SWU, I was on another RP site for two years. My RP barely improved, but within a year of being on SWU, it improved exponentially. I know for a fact, that others have had experienced the same improvement. Can you review an application in detail considering all the normal criteria while trying to help improve the applicant's writing as best you can...in 5 minutes? "Don't you want people to RP?"Of course we do but not at the expense of quality. Here at SWU, we pride ourselves on providing the highest quality RP environment. We make sure that all those who RP on our site, are ready to do so. Everyone should have fun, in a fair and friendly environment. Because we know you don't want to be in a thread with someone who goes *Walks in to temple and kills all Jedi* Often I have heard new members come here and say "This is the best SW RP site I have seen" Such statements mean a great deal to us, we put a great deal of effort to achieve such a goal. "Why Don't you get more moderators?"This is a classic case of easier said than done. We are always looking for moderators/candidates, we've made that clear. Yet if you read the previous point, you will know reviewing applications is not an easy task. Time, dedication, skill, and understanding are all needed to complete the task. We aren't going to let just anyone become a mod, just because some people are impatient. Once again I shall reiterate, if you have the time, please drop a review on an application. It speeds up the application process greatly, and let's us know you are possibly interested in becoming a mod. "When is it alright to PM a mod or admin?"After two weeks. Moderators have RL, their own posting, and other applications to review. They are busy people. "What should I do while waiting?"Work on another application. Get better acquainted with the plot. Search for future RP opportunities. Eat some bacon. Put yourself in a position so that when you are approved, you can RP right away. Final ThoughtsDon't just wait for moderator reviews, members who have gone through the application process, know what we are looking for. Listen to them! Moderators review from oldest to newest, so bumping your thread only hurts you. Keep in mind, this is SWU, not some other site you've been on. Patience is a virtue. Sorry for the length, but I wanted to be very clear. As always you are free to PM me any questions.
