Ever see signs like this and wonder why they need to be there? I mean... shouldn't people take the responsibility upon themselves to have a little common sense? Well, businesses don't want to get sued, so they take care of that for their customers.

Likewise, we'd like to not get shut down, so we're making this quick public service announcement so that we are all quite clear on a particular matter.

Our site is open to the interwebs. Literally ANYONE can see it. With the exception of certain staff threads, any person can surf onto the site, member or not, and read posts and conversations in the c-box. Because we have this open access, it is important that all members are expected to maintain PG-13 appropriate posts and conversations.

Until now, the staff has left this to the general common sense of the members buuuuuuuuut... we've decided to cover all of our bases and make it official. The PG-13 rule is now codified in the site rules so please respect it and keep SWU a fun site for ALL visitors.

Hello everyone, announcement time.

So after the continued commitment in delivering quality reviews, we have decided on a new mod to take over the Dark Jedi/Sith section. After his promotion to the ranks of the NGT he has put in a lot of work to provide reviews and has found a preference in this section and so the choice seemed quite natural. I would like you all to welcome Cain to the rank of the mods.

And there’s another promotion on the cards, a new addition to the NGT. He’s been reviewing for a little while now and has been showing good progress and development. We hope that as part of the NGT he can continue to grow and flourish here upon SWU, so please welcome Ghostie to the NGT.

Please remember, we’re always keeping an eye out for new NGTs and Mods and reviewing is a crucial part of this for those of you interested in a position.

On an unrelated note, today marks the five year anniversary since SWU2's creation. So Happy Birthday SWU, and may you continue to grow and bring joy to all your devout SWUvians.

Greetings SWUtopians,

This quick announcement concerns mostly those of you with really old bios on the site. It's about the Grandfather Clause, something that's been spoken about often but not always understood.

For those of you confused by what this is, the Grandfather Clause basically means a member doesn't have to change her approved app even if site standards change in a way that bar aspects of the bio that were acceptable at the time it was approved.

Problem was, we never had a written version of it that we could point people to when questions arose. Until now. If you head over the the Guide to Forbidden Aspects thread, you'll now find Grandfather Clause rules at the bottom of the post.

Note: after some discussion amongst the Admins and Mods, there's been a small addendum to the GFC that you all know and love. Basically, if an app is excessively OP or being used consistently for unfair play/godmodding, then the admins can collectively ask that GFC-protected aspects of the app be removed/changed.

Anyways, there it is.

Hello SWUlings.

As many of you may know, we’ve had a full Jedi Council for quite some time now. However, some of the members with characters on the Council have not been around for a little while now. On Sunday I will be moving the profiles of those who haven’t been on for a month or more.

This will include:

Atu Soka
Kaiven Te’Baas
Nelgakai Sei’lya
Kellick Vakkor

So unless the owners of these characters log back on in the next few days and notify me that they wish to keep their characters on the Council then there will be a few slots opening up.

For those of you interested in making a character to put on the Council, this will probably be one of your best opportunities to do so. Don’t forget, positions on the Council can’t be saved; it’s simply based on a first come first serve basis. If you already have a Master-level character and think they would be suitable for the Council then please PM me with a link to the character and they will be considered for a position.

Dear members of SWU,


I have some bittersweet news for you all.

Despite all best intentions, the 2011 SWU Awards will have to be postponed indefinitely. I had hoped that I would be ready to post up the nominations and start the voting this weekend, but the process just didn't work out that way.

Due to a shortage on the part of some of the nominations committee members, I'll have to take some extra time and fill in the gaps so that there is a more complete list to vote off of.

I do hope the delay will not be too long, and that the Awards will be ready for voting by the end of the month. But with everything else going on, I cannot make any promises. My only promise is that the voting will happen... eventually.


So, just stay tuned for when the voting is up and ready, sometime in the future. There will be another announcement then.

PS: I had, briefly, considered canceling the Awards altogether, but quickly decided it would be unfair to all the hard work from the very few committee members who did submit a list. And to the member base as a whole.

But situations such as this don't bode well for the future of the Awards.

So, it’s Sunday now, time for that follow up announcement.

However, first of all let me start with two position changes. After six months of inactivity, we’re removing Casual the rank of the NGTs. Also, after speaking to me, Squee requested that I remove her from the NGT for the time being since she is currently unable to get on too much.

As for the High Council Member positions, I have not heard back from any of those whose characters I listed the other day. They have now been removed from the council meaning that there are some open positions. Also, Rayn Gera has been deactivated per user request, meaning that in total there are five open positions on the Council for people to apply for. Remember that you can apply in two ways, by making a new character for the Council position or by PMing me about an existing Jedi Master you have that you would like to have considered for the Council.

Hello my little SWUlings,

There’s two parts to today’s announcement. First of all, two of our section moderators are going to be switching their positions. Talau will be moving to the Military section to moderate the applications there, she was the moderator of that section before moving to Fringe so she’s quite knowledgeable on the section. With a number of laptop/technical issues, she’s unable to get on the board quite so much and so will be covering that section as it doesn’t have as many applications coming in.

Rugs, who has been helping out with the Fringe section, will be taking over the role as Fringe mod and running the section. Hopefully due to the impacts of time constraints, this change will allow applications to be dealt with in a healthy manner.

For the second announcement, sadly Silas has requested that he step down from the position of moderator. He will however still be running the Roleplay Mentor section and hopes that he will now be able to dedicate more time to it.

To my dearest SWUlings,

Usually for a post like this I’d be letting loose in song and verse for pages and pages. But I’ll keep it fairly short and fairly sweet.

Basically, I’m stepping down from the staff position, I’ve been around SWU for a long time, and I’ve been admin of it for about half that time. But after about three and a half years I find I no longer have the motivation to be the leader that this site deserves. And with the addition of real life not giving me a break, I figure it’s time to pass on the baton. Meira’s a great admin and has been around for a good long while; I think that she’ll make an awesome head admin. And I’m not just saying that because she’s the boss of me now, honest.

But I’m still going to be around; I’m still going to be writing, I’m not leaving, simply stepping down. Returning to my old account of ‘jenno’, going purple and also heading down to the RPM section to help out with some writing where I can. Also, after talking to Sparrow and Meira, I’m still going to be helping out with the site plot, but of course the final say on things will not be in my hands any longer.

Well, to save my overly sensitive and emotional self from crying or some such silly thing, I think I’ll leave it at that.

Greetings SWUtopians!

Here's a quick announcement for you all making new characters. If you've been around here for a while, you might have noticed that the character templates once contained something called "Force Attunement" or "Force Alignment" or sometimes just "Alignment," which was supposed to be a number between -10 and 10 indicating how good or evil your character was.

That's gone now.

That particular part of the app was a relic from before the Personality section became standard on all character apps, and henceforth it will be the Personality section that informs other members of how good/evil your character is.

And there you have it SWUtopians! Another message from your benevolent staff, who are most certainly, NOT crazy! We'll be back after this.

We got a couple of announcements for you today.

First, the character limit is being raised to 12. The first 4 you get for free, the second 4 need mod approval (green), and the last 4 admin approval (red).

Existing restrictions on number of force-using characters and military characters remain the same however.

Next, we have a promotion. You might have noticed that Moonfire's been writing reviews for characters lately, and they're actually pretty good. So please welcome Moonfire to the NGT.

Oops... wrong color? I meant Moonfire. There we go.

And lastly, due to Tal's computer trouble plaguing her for the foreseeable future, Dire Wolf has volunteered to step in as Military Mod in her absence. So hopefully we can get that section moving again. How's it feel to be back in green, Dire Wolf?

Dear members of SWU,


This is a bit of a sequel/update to my earlier announcement regarding the 2011 SWU Awards.


Before I get into things, I just want to apologize profusely for the delay in getting the voting started. I know I didn't exactly promise a concrete start date earlier, but I still want you all to know that I'm utterly embarrassed that it's taken this long. And I feel like I've failed you all. I mean, it's June already, for goodness sakes.

Plus, I apologize for not getting this announcement up any sooner. I've honestly just forgotten in the busyness of everything else going on in life. But it's here now. Better late than never, eh?


I suppose my only excuse is life (my real life) being a bit of a crappy one the last couple months, which partially led to a lack of motivation in all things SWU, including the Awards. There might be other excuses, but they're not worth mentioning.

Anyway, again, my sincere apologies.



However, they will be happening! This is a promise. Even if I have to stay up past 4am for the next week or two in order to get all the nominations filled in. (And I'm not working OT at work next week, so this should be easier).


So please stay tuned. The voting thread will be up within the next two weeks. (Barring anything unexpected cropping up, obviously, but even so, I'll try to work through it).

We've got a few changes in staff to announce today.

First, Mara will be retiring from the position as Moderator of the Civilian Section, and will instead be taking on the title of Honored Vet.

But all of you with pending bios in that section, don't worry, because we are pleased to announce that Moonfire will moving up from the ranks of the NGT to be your new Moderator of the Civilian Section. Also, returning to the NGT and looking to get back to the swing of reviewing your bios is Squee! Congrats to both of you.

And remember, you don't have to be a member of the staff to review pending bios and help new members. We're still seeking to add to our staff so we'll be on the lookout.

Hello SWUtopians,

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you're all enjoying some time off from work and/or school. Anyways, we've got a few announcements for y'all.

First, lmr has decided to resign as moderator of the Jedi section. Like Cincinnatus before him, he has decided to go back to the farm to be, in his words, "an ordinary member."

Fortunately, we have Dutch stepping up to the plate to fill in the vacancy in the Jedi section. Don't worry, he does not bite. Most of the time. Dutch will also be helping with getting the missions section back on track.

And for those of you with pending characters in the Dark Jedi/Sith section, we will be getting the other mods to help out about until Cain is able to return and resume full activity.

Lastly, we're always on the lookout for new Next Generation Team (NGT) members. For those of you don't know, the NGT assist the mods in reviewing characters (although any member can help out with reviews if they wish) and are the first people we consider when we need new moderators. Be on the lookout soon for a thread where you can help us identify member that you think would make good NGT members!
