I can't wait for 2015 to find out now.
Shall we spin wild guess as to what it's going to be about now?

I hope it's the Thrawn Trilogy or KOTOR.

Thrawn would be awesomely epic. I would also like some stuff with Operation Shadow Hand and with Palpatine Reborn.

I'm at Thrawn, .... Kotor, (thanks to lmr) and a possible Luke rebuilding the Jedi order, maybe something between the 20 year gap from episode 3 and 4.

What, did George run out of plaid shirts and needed more cash?
Anyway... am I the only one who doesn't want another film, especially an ep 7 and beyond?

Episode Seven. Seven tends to come after Six. I also think this is a very bad idea, for a new movie. However, if they pull off Thrawn and pull it off well, there may be hope. Maybe. Also, I think Legacy of the Force (when Jacen went bad) would be easiest for them to pull off. They could get the original actors, even at their age, and throw some new ones in. Plus, I can see the series being split into three parts.

Personally, I'm rather hopeful and quite scared of this news. I'm scared because of the fact that these new Star Wars movies could be very bad and end up killing the franchise. However, I'm hopeful because of the fact that Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi weren't directed by George Lucas and they are my favorite movies in the franchise. So if you can get a good director that loves Star Wars, I think that these next Star Wars movies will be very good.

What worries me is the Disney "model" for writing narratives coming into play. The Star Wars saga by GL followed quite strictly to Joseph Campbell's monomyth as articulated in his book series The Power of Myth, but more specifically in the book Hero with a Thousand Faces. It's largely what makes the Star Wars saga great, and standout. But Disney doesn't really go by this, and is quite formulaic with their narrative template. And it is that, which concerns me.
As for Episode 7 (and 8 and 9 as it's stated it will be another trilogy), we'll see, it's known that George Lucas is remaining as a consultant for the making of those films. And if 7-9 goes in the direction that George Lucas envisioned, then we'll see the largest retcon in the Star Wars franchise history. Because the thing is, the movies George Lucas did Episodes 1-6 was actually only 2/3 of the Star Wars saga he had written so long ago. There were Episodes 7 through 9, and it deals with the utter eradication of the dark side; i.e. no Sith...
What does that mean? It means NJO, Dark Empire, Dark Legacy, the Rule of One, and Thrawn series and several other EU series all are utterly retconned and no longer exist narratively.
Also, this post is my "666" post \m/

along the line of thought that it's Disney, I wouldn't worry about it. After all they bought marvel and those movies are great now. They also have good movies out right now too. In the long run it can go two ways. Good or bad. How ever I'm still looking forward to it.

Imagine the pressure of making a 7th Star Wars. If you do it well, you could be immortalized as the new George Lucas (Original), If you mess it up you will be eternally hated as the new George Lucas (Prequel).

Ugh, this thing just still nauseates me (more the movies, than the actual buyout).
I see way more cons than pros here, personally.

Eh, Disney already owns everything anyway. I'll wait til there's actually concrete reason to be concerned before I start worrying about it. I feel like some of the concern would be more valid if the most recent trilogy had been works of cinema masterpiece or something, but let's not kid ourselves...
Maybe things will work out well, maybe not. I feel like a more pressing concern is milking the series to make more movies, but I'd feel the same if Lucasfilm was still independent, so it's not really Disney related.
