POST-CONSIDERATION AMENDMENT: I suppose it isn't all bad. I'm likening this to the Disney purchase of Marvel; Disney (hopefully) is just going to give them a bigger budget, maybe coax out a few commercial deals, but otherwise leave the company to its own designs and let it make money the way it usually does, only this time they get a slice of the pie.

But the MINUTE I see Jedi Master Mickey hugging the Sith Lord Donald to end the war, I'm getting my shotgun.

-more lightsaber colors
-film visualisation of naboo (the novel was the first appearance)
-liam neelson as qui-gon jinn
-an obiwan young enough for fan girls
-etc

Think of it this way, if disney didn't buy it, who is to say EA wouldn't?

Hold on.

Original doesn't mean that it will be a giant canon slashing blade. Star wars 1313 is original and I've yet to hear anyone on this site scream about that. Clone wars was original and it has some decent parts and doesn't do insane amounts of damage to the canon. All the the stuff about the father, son, and daughter gets a bit weird, but you also get the first showing of toydaria. Sure wroonians got retconned into pantorans, but no one knew much about them in the first place.

Also, some of the stuff in EU is pretty bad such as kushibans, shape shifting interdimensional beings, and techno immortals. You get a guy directing ships in hyperspace. You get various force cults and the rise of a number of old sith lords. You have an emperor with clones of himself dying because he accidentally possesd some steampunk bodied jedi who was fatally wounded. You get some sand-people jedi dude who somehow survives order 66 and becomes a major sith threat. The same person dies and gets ressurected then dies again while for some reason not using his transfer essence powers.

Those are only some of the things in the EU that make little sense. Star wars will eventually die. All things do. I accept this. I'm going to see what happens before I let my concerns become judgements and I preach eschatology.

I enjoy all the movies, too.

But I also enjoy the current state of the EU and (almost) everything that has happened beyond the movies.

And having a series of films that may void all that... I just personally don't like it.





But I guess I have three years to deal with it. Perhaps by then my mind will change. A lot can happen in three years.

Allow me to bash the EU some more.

Star Wars is brimming with bad writing and stupid things. Kushiban, Hapans (I mean really, super pretty aliens who look exactly like humans?), etc.

Frankly, I don't particularly care how much they invalidate. It's bound to have some ups as well as downs.

Allow me to clarify. I did not bash the EU. In fact, I've not said anything about the EU it does not say about itself. I've just merely pointed out things that are a bit off. Sure some feathers may get ruffled.

Oh man; finally a place where I can vent about this and people will give half a crap about what I have to say. First off, I love everything about the original trilogy; the ORIGINAL trilogy, not the do-overs Lucas released, but the original 1978, '81 and '83. I love the story of the prequels, just not the sorry acting, which as we all know (I hope) was due to Lucas' direct intervention in directing them. He's an excellent writer apparently, but THE WORST DIRECTOR. Now that he's out of the picture (though I hope Disney will respect the established canon of the expanded universe), I expect very great things out of the next trilogy. From what little I've read, I guess they'll be covering Luke's rebuilding of the Jedi Order (OMG JEDI ACADEMY!!!). Very excited.
The reason I have high expectations about the Disney aquisition is because I've loved the movies they've made since aquiring Marvel Studios. The Avengers is one of my top three favorite movies of all time, and also, even the mere thought of any character from Star Wars or Marvel appearing in a future Kingdom Hearts game makes me go insane with joy.

Timothy Zahn is definitely my favorite SW author (with Karen Traviss coming in a close second), but I didn't realize he had had that much influence on Lucas' decisions. I mean, he named Coruscant? That's pretty epic. It would truly be amazing to see Admiral Mitth'rawn'uroudo on the big screen.

I never liked the EU personally other than Thrawn, so I don't mind if the canon gets ripped.

I have to say the EU after VI isn't really my territory. I know almost nothing past the Thrawn trilogy and a little knowledge of some of Darth Krayt's Sith Order.

I for one am excited at the prospect of the new movies and live in hope that Disney creates a third trilogy both true to the originals and the EU whilst still remaining un-Disneyfied if you get my meaning. I mean, Star Wars has always had it's little parades and ewok parties but there is a line and I hope they respect it.

I'm also looking forward to the possibilities of new side films. Perhaps something away from the main Skywalker/Solo plotlines and more of a seperate story covering a lesser character or creating new ones? Obviously they'd have to tread carefully but I believe there's a lot of possibility there.

All in all I'm optimistically excited. Obviously the third trilogy could be terrible but then... But then it could be groundbreaking and new and brilliant! Here's to hoping.
