AWESOME BEYOND MEASURE. Without Luke, we would have no Star Wars. Don't just base your assumptions on the first (fourth) film, either. This on his entire life, as you know it.

Ehh, I'm in the middle. I think if he would have fought any sith from a earlier generation he would have been beaten to a pulp. Even Darth Maul could destroy him. He did create a better name from himself after the movies though. So I'll stay in the middle, there were still plenty of jedi that were much cooler than him.

He's Panzersome
Half Pansie, Half Panzerfaust, Half Awesome. In that order.
He fought well against the Vong, and worked as a military advisor, but really? Someone with Decent Sith combat skills would work his bum over

I suppose Jacen Solo didn't have decent skills, then.

True, but he's living in a completely different time period, where you probably have to weigh skills differently, taking into account how he trained (or wasn't trained). With Luke's background, I think he could pretty well hold his own, even against Palpy or Lumiya.

I think that that the series would have been different without Luke, as such that the Empire would still reign and that every former rebel we have now would be dead or an Imp. So I would say he is more than awesome, he is PWNSOME!!!!

Hmmm, well in Episode IV he was whiny, boring, melodramatic, and generally annoying. Later in his career he got better, but he will still never be even CLOSE to my favorite character.

In his own way, Luke still is pansy-ish. He just managed to learn how to not appear so somewhere between movies 4 and 5 lol.
My reasoning --Even in the EU (i just read the Heir to the Empire series by Zahn recently) he's got some kick ass-ness (particularly around the Force) but he's still just a worried little kid inside with minimal confidence (he whines most of the first couple books over whether he's strong enough or knows enough to train Jacen and Jaina.)
Luke's pansy-ishness i think comes mostly from his concern for others and what others think of him so its not pansy-ishness but general worldly concern (?)

I don't think hes a pansy but I don't think hes awesome either. I mean when he set up the new Order, he was getting pushed around by some of the other Jedi..and couldn't get his shizz together.
Yet he is still a pwnsome Jedi.....Mace shouldve been the main character in SW XD

I never liked him. He seemed too cheesy, tbh.
My vote says pansy.

I never really like Luke Skywalker all that much to be honest. I loved Star Wars but Luke as a character never excited me and my enjoyment of the original trilogy mainly centered around the development of the conflict between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. That and Darth Vader was awesome. ^_^

I'm going to go with a few people, kinda wimpy in the movies but gets a lot better in the books after the films. To be fair I dont think was ever supposed to be really pwerful, it was the idea of good vs. evil that gave him the advantage.

I dont think one should base his personality on the books only. in the 4th and 5th he was nieve and young. But we see a glimpse of the great jedi who single handedly developed a new jedi order and led the new republic. He is in a different time period where he was the higher jedi, so compared to the greats before his time he sholdnt have the same skill set. I mean in the time of Exar Kun and Arca Jeth, they were surrounded with force sensitive opposition. So if you think about it he didnt have the same dangers to think about.
