Kvothe grinned absentmindedly for a moment after Alindra finished speaking. Memories returned to him, stirred by her tale of the beginning of her training. They were of the beginnings of his own walk with the Mythos, of course, in what felt like another lifetime.
He knew how it must have felt for her, suddenly realizing that, with the help of her powers, she could do things far beyond what any normal person could do. Kvothe certainly remembered how it felt for him: empowering, uplifting. Amzaing.
"Interesting way to go, and for a former Jedi, no less. Ignoble, to say the least, considering her past," he said, mind returning to the here and now. "But I guess we can't all have the kind of deaths to make a song of. Did she ever say if she had a reason for training you? Or was it just something she did from her own kindness?"

Alindra shook her head. "I think it was because she couldn't run me off. I stayed around so long, she probably sensed what I was and figured I would be a problem for her if she didn't make me see what I was capable of. She never told me any of this, so I'm just guessing, but I spent a lot of time around her, so I developed a decent idea of how she worked.
"Not a perfect idea, though. That old woman hadn't been around anyone in years. There's no telling how long it had been since she left the Jedi behind her. She even felt like they were rigid and she was one of them. She wasn't a cruel mistress, but she was quite... eccentric."
The Tanner Shop appeared ahead of them and Alindra smirked at the notion of finally having armor to suit her in her battles. Never before had the young woman taken on the air of a warrior in any way. This would be the first of many steps toward that.

"Makes sense, I suppose," Kvothe said as they neared the tanner. "From her point of view it might have been better to teach the untrained girl what she could do before she hurt herself. Or someone else, for that matter." He shrugged easily, as if it were of little consequence and smiled at Alindra. "Whatever her reasoning, it ended up working out for the better, eh?"
He let his arm fall from around her waist when they came to the building and moved to hold the door open for her. It was quiet within; the only other person Kvothe saw was the clerk, who was the same man from the night before.
"Ah, I remember you two," he said, looking up from a stack of papers. "The armor and the bracer, right? Along with a single scale?" He looked up at the two. Kvothe nodded. "Right then. Wait there, I'll go get them from the back."
Kvothe watched the man hurry off in silence. Then he leaned against one of the walls, set his staff against it, and folded his arms across his chest, waiting for the clerk to return. Fas sat down, though he was still tending to stay nearer to Alindra than Kvothe, much to the Sword's amusement. You just won't let it go, will you big guy?
"Wonder what your suit will look like," he muttered to Alindra, if for no other reason than to break the silence. Though part of him did wonder. It wasn't every day that he saw armor made from the scales of a beast like the Kell dragon.

Rubbing the fur behind Fas' ears, Alindra smirked at Kvothe. She stood up as he pondered the appearance of her armor and moved her hands to Kvothe's neck and shoulder. There didn't need to be a reason to motivate her any more, so she moved close and kissed him. It was brief, just long enough to make Kvothe feel just a little more interested, just a little more connected.
"However it looks, I hope the armor gives you an excuse to look at me a little more." Alindra ran a single finger down the side of Kvothe's face and added, "Maybe even a lot more."
The Tanner emerged and looked to both of them, pulling a trio of boxes behind him. "I've had these prepping all night. Thankfully, a lot of the process is automated. There was a time when this would have taken days." Moving the boxes to the counter, the tanner positioned them in front of Alindra and Kvothe. "Who'd like to go first?"

A kiss from Alindra never failed to bring a smile to Kvothe's face. Green filled his eyes, accented here and there with purple as he looked to her, savoring the feel of her finger against his skin as it moved gently down the side of his face. Savoring her; her form, her face, her voice...
"As if I'd need one," he answered, laughing. He leaned in to give her a short kiss of his own and looked back up to see the tanner returning. He went on to talk about the process, explaining how it was much faster than it might have been in the past. "Well that's good, I suppose," Kvothe said before gently wrapping an arm around Alindra's waist and looking at her meaningfully. "Though, I don't think I could complain about spending a few more days here."
Three boxes were placed before them, each presumably with some part of their order. Alindra's was the larger, more important part of the order, and so Kvothe was more than willing to wait and let her go first. Besides, he really wanted to see what the armor might look like.
"I think you should go first, Alindra. After all, it's your first set of armor, right?" He grinned at her. "It's an important moment."

Nodding her head with a slight tilt, Alindra moved to the largest box. As she opened it, she could smell the slight odor of the tanning process. The new leather was still thick and dense. The sections Alindra had asked for were all present. Starting with a part acting much like a jacket missing an abdomen and sleeves, Alindra started to take all the parts out of the box.
There was an under layer to it all, protecting all the parts that would normally have been exposed. Alindra knew there had to be a practicality to the armor, even if she was asking for a more alluring cut the her protective gear. There was also a trio of sections that would protect her hips and thighs, along with a stylized collar. Once dressed, Alindra would look strong, dark, and more than a little fierce. Plus, she would be able to still move almost as well as she could without wearing armor.
"Give me a minute," she said, grabbing all the parts. "I'm going to try all this on." She found a fitting room and stripped out of her regular clothes. One by one, she put all the layers together. Ten minutes later, she stepped out, showing off both the seductive design of the armor along with her natural endowments.
"I think it's wonderful. Feel right, I can still move fine." She turned toward her onlookers. "How do I look? What do you think?"

Kvothe stayed where he was, leaning against the wall, when Alindra went to change into her new suit. His mind drifted around a variety of subjects, from what she might look like in her armor to what the coming day would bring, while he waited for her to come back out; one recurring thought kept coming up in his mind though. He counted Alindra as a friend--more than a friend--now; as such, the prospect of giving her a very special gift, a gift that few received began to percolate in his mind. Whether he'd do it, he couldn't say, but it was of little import at the moment; it could come later. Of course, it would ultimately depend on if he could make the process involved work; it was something he was still practicing, and he wasn't sure if it would go right, if he tried it. Still, that's for later.
Alindra came out a few minutes later, and Kvothe had to remind himself not to stare as his eyes went to a mixture of maroon and purple. At least not openly, anyway. It fit her well. It fit her very well. The tanner had certainly done a good job with making a set that complimented her form, to say the least.
"I like it," he said, walking forward to look over the set with a more critical eye. "Looks like it should offer decent enough protection, and it still allows you to move fairly freely. " He nodded, as if he were a critic evaluating some work of art. "It's a good set. And," he started, letting the hints an almost lustful grin grow on his face, "it suits you well."

Alindra took a few steps closer to Kvothe. She liked putting herself in front of him, if only to see what kind of reaction she could get out of him. Part of her wondered where she should nudge him next, if only to lure him over to her way of thinking a little further.
Instead, she went with instinct, running her hand down his arm. "It's ok, you know. You can look, I don't mind." Alindra leaned closer, nearly whispering for just a second. "Play your cards right and I'll let you touch a little, too." She backed away with a playful laugh, then looked over at the tanner who was pretending not to notice.
"Everything is to your liking, miss?"
"So far," Alindra answered. "I want to see what you've got ready for my friend here." Then she looked over at Kvothe, smiling, letting her eyes beckon him to look at his own order.

Kvothe's eyes followed Alindra as she moved, and he couldn't help but grin when she spoke. "I suppose I'll have to be extra careful with my cards, then, won't I?" He snickered softly to himself at the same time she pulled away from him, and they looked to the tanner in unison. Oh, the man was looking in another direction now, but he'd been watching; the slight reddening of his cheeks and his too-deliberate stare at the wall[/l], of all things was more than enough to give that much away.
Though he was tempted to make a joke about it, Kvothe resisted, allowing Alindra to speak instead. He looked over to the boxes when she beckoned, though he wasn't sure which of the remaining two was the one that held his gauntlet. A gesture from the tanner was enough to answer his unspoken question, and he went to take the box in question.
The gauntlet awaited within, wrapped up in a protective cloth. Kvothe pulled it out, nodding in approval. It was long enough to go about halfway up his forearm. The outside of it was protected by the Kell's hard scales, and part that would cover the interior of his forearm and palm was made of a softer, but still strong, leather. Kvothe slipped his left hand into it, nodding again upon realizing that it fit correctly, and held his hand up. He flexed his fingers and was pleased to see they could move freely, easily.
"Very well done," he said with an approving look to the tanner. "Now I can stop going into battle with one of my hands uncovered. And I don't really lose any flexibility." Then he turned to Alindra, holding up his hand and grinning. "What do you think?"

Alindra stroked her fingers over the concealed hand. Each fingernail swayed over the refined scales with ease, while Alindra's eyes drifted upward, looking at Kvothe with a renewed surge of seduction. "Just right," she said. "Just rough enough." Her fingers moved to the other side of Kvothe's gauntlet. "Just strong enough."
Her expression shifted again, letting her eyes turn to face the tanner. "Good work. I think it's all quite fantastic. You've done great, especially in such a fast span of time."
She got out her credits to pay for her portion, not wanting to create a scene by slaughtering a skilled craftsman. There were better targets for her wrath, all needing to die for her. Part of Alindra felt wild, needing to be focused. Perhaps with a renewal of blood and violence. And she still needed to find herself a ship. Her time with Kvothe wouldn't be permanent, at least she didn't see how it could be.
Hiding what she was thinking, she moved around to Kvothe's side, moving her hand around him as she walked. "So," Alindra asked, "what should we do next?"

"I'm glad you like it," Kvothe answered, grinning at Alindra's looks. He held it up in front of him once more while she went to pay the tanner. His fingers flexed again, as he worked to get a feel for the way the gauntlet moved, or the way the fabric shifted as his hand changed form. It was strong. It was comfortable. It'd serve him well in the future. Then he took it off and placed it back in its box.
When Alindra was done paying for her part, Kvothe went to pay for his. The tanner went to the back again once he'd made his payment. He came back with a single item in his hand: a small, solitary scale from the Kell Dragon.
"I almost forgot, but you requested this as well, yes?" He smiled knowingly at Kvothe's nod and handed it to him. "There you are. No extra cost; it didn't take anything to just stick some leather through it. Thank you both for your business."
Kvothe made his thanks to the tanner and looked the scale over. Magnus should like this, once I get back to Aiaru. The old librarian often appreciated such gifts, even though he never asked for anything; still, Kvothe knew how much Magnus enjoyed studying things of the sort.
Alindra came over then, and wrapped an arm around his waist as they started to leave. Kvothe put at arm around hers in turn as they headed for the door. He called Fas to his side with a few clicks of his tongue, and his staff to his free hand with the Mythos.
"Well," he started carefully, wondering if he should go ahead with the things he's been thinking of earlier. "I, uh... Would you mind accompanying me back to the Masada? There's something I want to show you." He paused then, and looked down at her, smiling softly. "I have something I want to give you."

Whispering, Alindra said, "Isn't it a bit early for that?" Her smile was full of mischief again, her hand, lightly setting it on Kvothe's chest. She could feel his heartbeat and it was a slight comfort to her, though she hardly needed it.
"I can play, Kvothe. The question though is would you rather look at me like this..." Taking a couple of steps back, Alindra moved her hands up and down the length of her body, showing off her curves under the layer of trophy leather. Pulling on the tops of her boots, she said, "Or would you rather I change?"
It occurred to Alindra that something had switched inside her. Normally, she would try to be a little more subtle, even if she was feeling sensual craving. Of course, she knew the reason. It was Kvothe and she couldn't stop herself from wanting of needing to feeel more.
She stood up, smiled and laughed. Her fingers found her hair, running the thick strands back over her shoulders. Creeping closer to her love, she asked, "What do you think?"

"Well, uh..." Kvothe started, before the rest of the sentence died unspoken on his tongue. That's not quite what I meant, he'd been going to say, but such thoughts were pushed aside by Alindra's sudden flirting. He could feel his heart pounding against his ribs as she leaned her hand on in him, whispering things that could only have one meaning, and he knew his eyes followed her hands when she took a step back, emphasizing her figure.
"I, uh..." What was he going to say, again? Somewhere between her actions and the sudden welling of a physical want for her, he'd forgotten. Well, she does look pretty nice in that armor... But he'd liked the way she looked even before she acquired the armor; he'd be fine with her no matter what she wore, though the... suggestions that were laced within her words and motions were not lost on him. Part of him wanted to walk up to her, sweep her off her feet and carry her away, but he couldn't. Not in public, anyway.
And he was still determined to give her the gift he'd decided on: one of his feathers. "I think you can wear whatever you want," he said, laughing gently as he stepped forward and gently slid the back of his finger down one of her cheeks. "But, that's not quite what I was talking about." Kvothe smiled at her warmly, and leaned in just a bit. "Though, once that's done..." He simply left the end of the sentence unfinished and chuckled before continuing on.

Alindra's eyes widened and her mouth became small. She saw something real and sincere in Kvothe's words, and she realized she'd acted petty when he'd spoken. It actually hurt her to think she might have downplayed something important to her new partner.
"Tell you what." Alindra swallowed, sorting out exactly how to fix a situation so it wouldn't cause problems. She hadn't tried to be honestly and completely diplomatic since she left Almania. "I'll gather everything real quick and we can head out."
Moving to the changing area, she draped her clothes on over her armor, still showing off her new gear, but not looking quite as exposed. She took a minute to fix her makeup a little. Even out of her element, Alindra knew the value of appearances, even in an intimate setting.
She returned to Kvothe, taking his hand as she returned. While they walked, she did little things. Rubbing Kvothe's arm, kissing his cheek. She even ran her fingers through Fas' smooth fur. It amazed her the kind of connection the two of them had. Distantly, she wondered if she would ever feel that kind of bond with anyone or anything.

Kvothe's eyebrows went up in surprise when Alindra's expression suddenly changed as she went off to change. When she came back, they headed out, though something was a bit different about her, both in her mannerisms and in her presence in the Mythos. Oh, she still kissed and touched him, but there was something off about her.
Was it because of what I said? He had been caught off guard by the sudden forcefulness of her flirting a few minutes back, but it didn't upset him or anything; he just took it in stride, as he did most things, and had even been a bit amused by it. Kvothe furrowed his eyebrows. He certainly didn't want Alindra to think he was upset at her or anything of the sort.
They made it back to where the Masada was docked after a short walk, and once they were in the little walled off area that surround the ship and alone, Kvothe turned around to face Alindra. He leaned in without saying anything and kissed her lightly, holding it for a moment before pulling away.
"Hey now, I don't know what's suddenly got you so anxious, but don't worry about it." He smiled warmly at her and laughed softly. "I'm not upset at you, if that's what you're worrying about." Kvothe left things like that and moved to the side of the ship to call down the loading ramp.
"However," he continued, motioning for her to follow him up onto the Masada, "I have a gift for you, as I said earlier; a gift and something to show you. Both are things that very few people get to see." He waited for Fas and Alindra to make their way up, and once they had, he brought the ramp back up so that it was closed, insuring that they had some privacy.
Kvothe simply set the box that held his glove and Magnus' scale down, along with his staff, and motioned for Alindra to follow. He led her to the ship's nose, to a training room. It was large enough for multiple people to work comfortably, though there wouldn't be any training going on now.
"Right, here we are." He closed the door behind him and looked to her. "I can't recall if I've told you what I am, but I am a Rilan. We're a near-human species, with a few things that differentiate us, like the color-changing eyes.
"There are a few other things, but none is as big as what I'm about to show you. Just as Kvothe, the name you know me by, is not my true name, this" he gestured at his body, "is not my true form. What I am going to show you, Alindra, if I can make this work, is my true form."

"If I thought you were upset with me," Alindra said, "I don't think we'd be standing in your ship." Her eyes flickered from side to side, seeing nothing aside from Fas. "Alone." She leaned back, looking back at the way they'd come in. "With the entry hatch locked."
The thought of getting a gift interested Alindra, but she wasn't entirely sure why. Maybe it was to keep her more interested. She didn't think it was simply a game though. Kvothe was serious about something, more than she'd ever seen him. Alindra wasn't going to be bothered by this; she liked where she was and who she was with.
"What do you mean, 'true form'? I mean my eyes can change color, but I don't have another form I can change into." Alindra left out the part where her eye color change was due to her being permeated by the Dark Side of the Force. "You'll forgive me," she said, smiling. "I might end up a little jealous."

Kvothe smiled at Alindra's question. "The true form," he began as he walked to the center of the room before turning to face her, "is an appearance that all of my people have. As for how it looks," he laughed a shot, teasing laugh, "well, I think I'd rather show you than tell you.
"But there are two surefire ways to make us enter it." He held up two fingers. "For one, if we're in a fight or something of the sort and it's not going well--to the point where we're in grave danger--the transformation will happen. The other way is to piss us off. And when I say that, I mean really piss us off." He laughed quietly to himself and stretched his arms out.
"Of course, neither of those is really practical for purposes such as this, so there is a third way. It's possible to force it, though the process of learning how to do it is both energy-intensive and difficult. I still haven't reached the point where I can do it every time consistently, to be honest." Kvothe licked his lips in thought for a moment. "I really only can get it to work about 1 out of every three times... but I'm hoping this will be one of those times. Seeing it's much more interesting than hearing some description of it."
He sighed then, and pulled on arm back up into the sleeve of his robe. The he brought it out before doing the same with his other arm so that the portion of the robes that covered his upper body hung down around his waist. And with the baring of his well-defined torso came the view of three more scars--one across his lower back and another on his left side, just below the scar left from a stabbing. All of them came from his brother.
"Don't want to tear holes in my clothes, should this work," he muttered to her as he sat down on the floor, legs crossed. "Here we go. Let's hope this works, eh?" He looked up to her and offered a smile as gold filled his eyes.
Then he titled his head back down, and his eyes slowly slid shut as he entered a sort of meditative trance. The Mythos surged into him and around him as he went deeper, willing the transformation to come with everything that he had.
And then it happened, after a few minutes of silence. There was a shift within his body--one that brought an unmistakable pain that made Kvothe wince and grunt. It hurt, and there would be more pain to come as things progressed, but for once he didn't mind. Once the shift started, it would finish.
And it had just begun.

As Kvothe started to explain himself, Alindra decided to sit on the floor. Her eyes stayed fixed upward, watching and listening with wonder about what will happen. Kvothe had implied some amazing things might be about to happen, and Alindra was committed to learning more.
The scars along Kvothe's back and side came into view, making Alindra remember the heartache of leaving her sister behind. She felt the memory of being whipped in the mines as a child. The echoes of having a Mandalorian take her started to make Alindra feel ill. Forcing herself to focus on Kvothe and his transformation, Alindra tried to eliminate the hurting past from her mind.
The golden glimmer reflected from Kvothe's eyes and smile eased Alindra. She reflected his smiled, taking a moment to adjust her hair, clearing her vision. The Force, the Mythos, regardless of name, Alindra felt it moving close to her, touching her heart, filling her with warmth and affection. As she embraced how she felt, the power began to flow outward and bond with the supercharge of Mythos around Kvothe.
And Alindra knew something was changing. She looked forward, ready to take in the sight to come.

The Mythos surged into and around Kvothe as he pushed the change along, forcing it with all of his will. There more shifts within him; some of them were accompanied by pained grunts, but he didn't stop. He couldn't stop--not now that he'd gone past the point of no return.
A number of changes became immediately apparent. His skin darkened a bit to a bronze-ish tone as the change continued. The features of his face changed and became sharper and more angled, as if it were carved from stone. His hair grew a bit wilder, into more of a mane than its normal slightly unkempt appearance.
But those were the small changes. The pain that he felt came from within, because that was where the greatest deal of change was taking place, as his body prepared for his wings to come forth. He couldn't say how long it lasted, though he knew that the process itself didn't take very long. It felt like it took hours, though. The pain grew and grew until finally, it happened.
Two great wings pushed out from his upper back and arched up behind him. They spread out to either side, stretching out like great arms as they continued to grow, until finally, they were done. And with them, the change was complete.
There were a few moments where the only sound in the room was Kvothe's labored breathing. That took more out of me than I thought it would. I haven't done this in so long.
He brought his head up and opened his eyes. He turned to look at his wings, which he'd not seen in a very long while. They were large, majestic things that were covered in feathers that were the same gold as his eyes, with a touch of red here and there.
"It's been so long..." he muttered as he stretched one, and then both of them out, getting a feel for them again. Kvothe brought one of them around so that he could touch it with his hand and gently rubbed one of the primary feathers near the tip. Yes, that one will do nicely. He left it, though and let his wings fold up behind him as he turned to look at Alindra.
"Well, Alindra," he said with a weary smile, "this is my true form."

It all sounded so horrible. Bones shifting, joints popping, it was a symphony of bodily transition. Kvothe did what he could to control his torment, but Alindra was scared. She had never seen something like what she was experiencing. To see the tint of a man's skin shift into a warm bronze when it hadn't been seconds earlier, to watch as his hair flared out into the decorative fur of an alpha male, to gaze on the wings as they tried to emerge.
Another face, one different than the one Alindra had so quickly come to know, endured the changes. So much gold filled the air. Tinted with red, the new man's wings fully extended. Alindra loved what she saw, though she was shocked by how it had all happened. Could the Force really do all this? If it's true, I need to know what has happened?
It didn't matter. Kvothe seemed exhausted. Alindra wanted to go to him, but she was still trying to understand exactly what had just happened. She just couldn't move.
But as he started to speak, Alindra found herself standing up. She took a single step forward, looking over what had changed about Kvothe. Her jaw hung loose, making her mouth sit open. Alindra's eyes examined the fibers of Kvothe's hair, the pattern of his skin. There was nothing anywhere that told her what she should do.
A tired smile started to take form on Kvothe's face. "Well, Alindra, this is my true form."
"I..." She was still having trouble with it all, but something was starting to change in her. An acceptance that let her come close. Alindra held out one hand, moving it close to Kvothe's skin, but never touching it. Her fingernails even started coming close to Kvothe's majestic wings. "I can see that."
Once she truly saw him and understood this was the real shape and face of the man she'd just slept with, something shifted inside her. Her eyes and her smile met Kvothe's face. "I like it. You're beautiful." But her words didn't say what she was thinking, though she meant what she'd said. In her mind, Alindra thought a pristine silver might better suit her skin, with black edging around her wings. It seemed so simple to her, so easy for her to want. For an instant, she hadn't been Sith, but when she realized what she was again, Alindra knew she wanted to be like Kvothe, if only to be closer to him.
"I mean it," Alindra said. "You're magnificent. So absolutely beautiful."
